This day, after finishing work, I went to Kamata by Keikyu Line because my friend wanted to go there. Since it was after work, we started around 9 p.m. It was a place that served teppanyaki, okonomiyaki, and izakaya dishes. The restaurant seemed to have been in business for a long time in this area. On this day, the owner was not present, and the young staff members were running the restaurant. We started with a beer, a small bottle of Ebisu to quench our thirst. I usually tend to be more active on my days off, so going out for dinner after work was a bit refreshing for me. First, it was my turn to order. I got baked potato salad, avocado namul-style dish, and yam. The yam was delicious, especially when baked. The potato salad was also good because warm potatoes taste better than cold ones. The yam dish was fluffy and tasty, served with bonito flakes and dashi soy sauce. Next, it was my friend's turn. They ordered beef tendon stew, grilled offal, and stir-fried tofu. My friend, who loves meat, usually eats fish, so they were happy with the meat dishes. The stir-fried tofu was cooked with plenty of cabbage, which is a typical dish in okonomiyaki restaurants. The tofu dish was like a foil-baked dish, and it was well-prepared. Finally, we had okonomiyaki, which could also be called Hiroshima-yaki. The batter was thin with lots of cabbage and a fried egg on top. We could choose between udon and soba noodles, and I ordered an additional egg noodle dish. The default sauce was Otafuku sauce, and they asked if we wanted mayonnaise on top. I chose not to have mayonnaise, as I remember okonomiyaki used to be served without it. It was nice that they asked about it. We had about three drinks each, and we ate quite a lot of food. It was enjoyable to have the food cooked in front of us, with lots of green onions and cabbage. The sauce was mildly flavored, and you could ask for more if needed. Two servings of okonomiyaki were quite filling, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that you could take the leftovers home as a souvenir. I decided to give it to my wife as a gift on my way back. It's nice to have a place with a counter where you can stop by alone on your way home, especially since there aren't many restaurants near Umejuku in Kamata.
