On a weekday at 6:30 PM, I made a reservation in advance for one of Kyoto's top-rated Western restaurants. This was the only restaurant in Kyoto's top 100 Western restaurants that I had not yet visited. It ranks third among the top Western restaurants nationwide, following Tsubaki and Lamp Tei. I had tried to make a last-minute reservation a few times before, but it was always fully booked, so this time I made an early reservation. Reservations can only be made by phone, and the available times are fixed, so it's important to check the website for details. While the dinner menu is à la carte, there are a lot of options to choose from. Although there aren't many standard menu items, there are so many handwritten daily specials that it can be quite overwhelming if you don't do your homework. I had to try the hamburger and crab cream croquette, which are must-tries at a Western-style restaurant. You can order the hamburger in 100g increments. I also ordered the recommended appetizer, rare horse mackerel fry, and fillet cutlet. Overall, the demi-glace sauce was incredibly delicious. It goes perfectly with the crab cream croquette and fillet cutlet. While crab cream croquettes often come with tartar sauce, this one had a lot of crab meat and a rich flavor, so the demi-glace sauce was a perfect match. I only had one, but next time I want to have two. The hamburger had just the right amount of rareness and was also served with demi-glace sauce. The meat itself was delicious, but everything tastes amazing with this sauce. I think just having the rice with demi-glace would be delicious enough. For dessert, I had Napolitan pasta and beef curry in a hot pot. Even though I had the Napolitan pasta in half portions, it was still a substantial amount. The pasta was chewy, and the ketchup was a perfect match. It was definitely one of the best Napolitan pastas I've ever had. The beef curry in a hot pot is a Western-style curry with tender beef and a unique deliciousness. The butter rice is delicious even without the curry. This curry alone is wonderfully satisfying. It truly lived up to its reputation as a top Western restaurant. I look forward to trying more dishes next time.

I visited the Kyoto Manga Museum and was lucky enough to find a seat available for lunch without any wait, even though it was a weekend. I had been wanting to try Ogasan for a long time, and the food exceeded my expectations by far. The salad appetizer was amazing, with a perfect combination of Kyoto vegetables and dressing, topped with macaroni salad. Even my daughter, who is not a fan of vegetables, enjoyed it so much she finished it all. The vegetable soup had a delicious Japanese broth with rich flavors from the vegetables and mushrooms, and it was so good I could have had multiple servings. The main dishes, hamburger steak and pork sauté, were both outstanding. The hamburger steak had a classic taste, with just the right amount of fat and using high-quality meat that allowed you to savor the meat's flavor. But the real star was the pork sauté, which was cooked to perfection. The outside was crispy, the inside was tender, with no dryness in the lean parts and the fat was light and not overpowering, with no unpleasant smell. It was without a doubt the best pork sauté I've ever had in my life. I will definitely be making a reservation to visit again. The prices are a bit high, but this restaurant is definitely one of the best in terms of Western cuisine!

I didn't make a reservation and just walked in around 1 pm. I tried the famous Ogata-san, known for its delicious food. Even though I was alone on a weekday, I was seated at the counter without any trouble. Since the course was over, I ordered the lunch set with hamburger demi-glace and shrimp fry. I ordered only one instead of three, and it cost 3570 yen plus tax. I thought it was a bit pricey for lunch, but I was very satisfied with the attention to detail and deliciousness. The organic Kyoto salad was refreshing, and the hash brown-like side dish was also very good. The soup was full of ingredients, and the spiciness of the chili pepper was a nice touch. Just these two dishes alone made me think "Wow, this is amazing!" The classic hamburger had a nice rareness and juiciness, providing a satisfying bite. I was already quite full from this, so one shrimp fry was just right. The tartar sauce was also delicious. The hash brown-like side dish part 2 was crispy and satisfying, with a different texture that complemented the meal well. I'm not sure if the lunch course is a better deal since it was my first visit, but I was quite satisfied with this lunch.

Sasue Maeda Fish Store offers dishes like fried horse mackerel and beef cutlet made with brand beef that would excite any food lover. It was another enjoyable meal. The spaghetti Napolitan and hashed beef rice were especially delicious. While I usually find escargot too salty at other places, the ones here are so tasty that I always feel like having more. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I think I ate too much again, but I come here once a month. Mr. Maeda's horse mackerel is exquisite! From macaroni and potato salad to Neapolitan, hamburger, shrimp gratin, escargot onion gratin soup, I devoured as usual and left with a full stomach. Thank you as always.

For today's lunch, I went to the popular restaurant "Yoshoku Ogata" in Kyoto with my wife and mother-in-law. It had been two months since our last visit, and there was a sign at the entrance saying "Fully booked for reservations today," showing how popular it is. We entered with high expectations. My wife and mother-in-law ordered the special hamburger, made with aged beef and brand pork from "Sakaeya," a meat shop in Shiga. I opted for the luxurious beef cutlet, also made with aged beef from "Sakaeya." The lunch set came with soup and salad, and you could choose between rice or bread to accompany the main dish. Coffee was included after the meal, making it a very cost-effective set. Both the soup and salad were of high quality, with simple yet flavorful seasoning that brought out the ingredients' taste. The beef cutlet had a rich flavor from the aged beef and a perfect harmony with the demi-glace sauce, making it a superb dish both in taste and presentation (I was surprised by the price of ¥9,680!). The biggest charm of "Yoshoku Ogata" lies in its delicious food. But not only that, the carefully selected ingredients, the sense of plating, and the lively atmosphere created by the open kitchen all stimulate the senses. It truly is a "new era" Western-style restaurant that updates the nostalgic charm of old-fashioned Western-style restaurants. It is certain that reservations will become even more difficult in the future. I am looking forward to revisiting (I have already made a reservation for dinner in November).

I went to have lunch at Western-style restaurant Ogata. I made a reservation by phone about two weeks ago. ---------------------------------------------- Lunch Set Shiga Sakaeya Aged Beef and Kumamoto Kikuchi "Muto-san" Pasture-raised Running Pork Special Hamburger / 3570 yen - Soup - Salad - Coffee Elderflower Soda / 700 yen I asked for the "medium" rice portion. The soup arrived. I prepared myself for it to be very delicious, but it exceeded my expectations and was incredibly tasty. Then came the salad. The dressing was also delicious. For the hamburger sauce, I had a choice of Demi-glace sauce or Japanese-style onion sauce, so I chose Demi-glace. The hamburger arrived. It was a tightly packed hamburger with a perfect blend of the meat's wildness and the mellowness of the Demi-glace sauce. I could taste the robustness and umami of the meat! The rice was surprisingly delicious. I heard it was delicious, so I'm glad I chose the "medium" portion. Everything about the hamburger was delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, and the staff were professional yet approachable, making the experience enjoyable. I could understand why the restaurant is so popular. I thoroughly enjoyed the hamburger lunch. Thank you for the meal.

Recently, I've been eating a lot of hamburgers, dumplings, and Sichuan mapo tofu, and I'm starting to get tired of it. Suddenly, I had a craving for Western food and decided to visit a restaurant I had been planning to visit for a while. In Kyoto, there is a Western restaurant called "Ogata" that rivals the one I had previously visited, "Grill French." "Ogata" has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Western Restaurants" on Tabelog in 2020, 2022, and 2023, and has been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand every year since being selected in 2017. It is a highly acclaimed Western restaurant.

This day was the Friday before a three-day weekend. I took the day off and came to the lively Kyoto for the Yoiyoiyama of the Gion Festival! For lunch, I had the amazing Omi beef fillet steak and hamburger, and at night, I went to Momotarokyo, a Western restaurant that I hadn't visited since last September. This time, I left the reservation to the tour organizer, and it seems that making reservations two months in advance is the best way to secure a spot for dinner. This year, it was so difficult to get a reservation, so it had been a long time since I last visited. This time, foodies from Hokkaido, Sendai, and Nagoya gathered, totaling six people. This means we can try a variety of dishes... The highlight of today's a la carte menu included the following dishes that we ordered: Drinks: Draft beer, Suntory Master's Dream White wine bottle: Pieropan La Rocca Soave Classico 2022, Italy, Soave Classico region, Garganega, Trebbiano Red wine bottle: Villa Maria EarthGarden Pinot Noir 2020, New Zealand, Marlborough region, Pinot Noir Red wine bottle: Ca' Momi Chardonnay 2020, USA, Napa Valley region, Merlot 1. Coleslaw Salad - always the best! 2. Potato salad and macaroni salad combo - the creaminess of the mayonnaise always captivates everyone. 3. Peach with white sesame dressing, walnut and mint flavor - juicy peach with a refreshing walnut and mint flavor. 4. Live golden eye snapper lightly grilled with real wasabi sauce - the live golden eye snapper prepared by Maeda-san with perfect grilling. The subtle charcoal aroma, grated radish sauce, and plenty of wasabi make it shockingly delicious. 5. Summer salad with various vegetables, served with roast ham - vegetables from Yamada Farm in Fushimi, Kyoto. The flavors are rich. The roast ham with plenty of back fat is excellent! 6. Assorted live horse sashimi - from Kodokan Farm in Kumamoto. This was our first time trying it at Western Restaurant Ogata. The fatty, lean, thigh meat, and liver were all delicious. The sweet Kyushu soy sauce-based sauce was excellent. It was incredibly delicious! 7. Live beltfish fritters with grated radish and wood sorrel powder - fritters made from live beltfish prepared by Maeda-san. It melts in your mouth as soon as you take a bite. The flavors of wood sorrel and sansho pepper are refreshing. It's just too amazing! 8. Live mackerel fried to medium and served with tartar sauce - as horse mackerel was not available, mackerel was used for the fry. The perfect thickness and delicate grilling. The flavor of the fish melts in your mouth. The refreshing aroma of wood buds and sansho pepper is delightful. It's just too amazing! 9. Red snow crab cream croquette - it's so crabby that it's like "crab crab" (゜Д゜) It's so delicious! 10. Tonkatsu made from Saddleback pork from Fukudome Farm in Kagoshima - the tonkatsu was made from Saddleback pork. The perfect frying, thin coating, sweet fat, and excellent pork flavor. It was incredibly delicious, and even adding demi-glace sauce made it even better... It was breathtaking! 11. Ribeye steak from Kagoshima's Sekisan Wagyu - a ribeye steak made by Sakae-ya Shinbo. The aged nutty aroma was incredibly delicious! The grilling was perfect. 12. Hamburger made from Hokkaido G beef and Kikuchi City, Kumamoto running pig - a hamburger made from Hokkaido G beef and Kikuchi City, Kumamoto running pig. The hamburger seems to be getting more delicious each time I come. It's rare to bring out the flavor of the meat like this in a hamburger. Today, I was able to try two different types of amazing hamburgers! 13. Finale_1: Demiglace sauce Napoli - Napoli pasta with demiglace sauce that keeps it moist. The deep flavor is just too amazing! 14. Finale_2: Omelette rice - I had omelette rice for the first time at Western Restaurant Ogata. It's fun to try new menu items when you come with different people. The beef ketchup inside the omelette is delicious.

When coming to Kyoto, the first choice is always Japanese cuisine, but at the request of my beloved son, we visited this Western-style restaurant. He really enjoyed Grill French during our last family trip to Kyoto, so this time he wanted to have Western food again. For parking, I recommend the nearest Oike underground parking lot west exit P9. ⭐︎ Shizuoka Sasue - Grilled Kamameshi with Wasabi ⭐︎ Shizuoka Sasue - Black Mutsu Fish Fritters ⭐︎ Shizuoka Sasue - Rare Fried Kinmedai ⭐︎ Red Snow Crab Cream Croquette ⭐︎ Yamada Farm Organic Vegetable Caesar Salad ⭐︎ Miyazaki Okazaki Ranch Fillet Beef Cutlet ⭐︎ Ise Tar Aka Ebi Fry with Tartar Sauce ⭐︎ Chicken Cutlet Curry ⭐︎ Napolitan Pasta ⭐︎ Cold Corn Cream Soup ⭐︎ Creme Brulee ★ Glass of Champagne, bottle of white natural wine, and more à la carte options to share as much as you like. My son also loved it! We were very satisfied. It was good that the dishes were carefully cooked to bring out the best in the ingredients. My partner, who said "I can't eat anymore!" ended up asking for the Creme Brulee, which was adorable. Today, Japan is peaceful once again. Since the prices were not listed, the final bill was a pleasant surprise. The result was worth the price! Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I made a reservation for lunch and visited the restaurant. It seemed to be fully booked with reservations, so I thought it was safe to make a reservation before going. I ordered the special hamburger with demi-glace sauce and added shrimp fry with tartar sauce. First, I was served soup and salad made with pesticide-free vegetables, both of which were quite delicious. Especially the soup had plenty of ingredients and a satisfying taste, showing that it was carefully made. The salad also had a huge amount of vegetables and was very filling. I was already captivated by the food. This time, I chose the chef's specialty hamburger, which was surprisingly delicious. The outside was firm, and the inside was a different type of soft and tender hamburger. When I cut the hamburger, the meat juice overflowed, which was truly amazing. The homemade demi-glace sauce had a slightly acidic taste, which was also very tasty. The mashed potatoes served with it had a creamy taste and were delicious. Eating the shrimp fry with the special tartar sauce was a blissful moment. I highly recommend ordering an additional shrimp fry. They use carefully selected ingredients such as meat, rice, fish, and vegetables. I had a very valuable experience of enjoying dishes filled with the thoughts of the producers. Also, since it is an open kitchen, I could see the chef cooking, which was very enjoyable. Thank you for the delicious meal.

This time, I visited Ogata in Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto, at 32-1 Tamamizu-cho, Yatsumabashi Oshikoji-agaru. I went for lunch and was looking forward to visiting this famous restaurant. I arrived a little early before the opening time, so I bought coffee at a nearby convenience store to pass the time. When it was time for the restaurant to open, a line of reserved guests started to enter. It's truly a popular place! The interior has counter seats facing the open kitchen, and there are also table seats at the back. Of course, I started with a glass of draft beer to cheers. I ordered the special hamburger for 3,250 yen, which uses aged beef from Shiga's Sakae-ya and pasture-raised pork from Kumamoto's Kikuchi "Muto-san". It's a product filled with dedication. I chose the demi-glace sauce, and the staff tempted me to add shrimp fry as a topping. The lunch soup was full of ingredients, with plenty of vegetables. And then, the hamburger arrived! It looked beautiful and perfectly cooked. I could imagine the juicy meat inside the crispy exterior. The sauce was well-balanced and didn't overpower the hamburger. I ended the meal with freshly brewed coffee. The staff also provided complimentary water, making it a comfortable dining experience. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Lunch at "Yoshoku Ogata" in Kyoto ☀️ Rated 3.85 on Tabelog Tabelog Western Cuisine Top 100 in 2023 Since I was there, I decided to order the chef's course for 12,000 yen. Everyone else around me was ordering light lunch sets. Looking back, I should have just ordered a lunch set. Starting with the bitter melon ohitashi ✨ it was easy to eat despite the slight bitterness. Sea bass carpaccio ✨ light and goes well with plenty of wasabi. Roast beef and Yamada Farm's summer vegetable salad with Kachokabaro roast beef on top. The roast beef is incredibly delicious ♥️❤️ Not your typical sauce-covered roast beef, the meat's flavor is very rich. Chilled zucchini soup sweet with a strong zucchini flavor, also delicious. Yaizu Sasue Maeda's fried Spanish mackerel. I'll have it with tartar sauce or hot mustard. The Spanish mackerel is rare and incredibly juicy, a masterpiece that is impressively flavorful. Normally they serve fried horse mackerel. Kinmedai fritto with daikon hidden underneath. It's light and very delicious when eaten with the daikon ♥️❤️ Hmm, I had a big breakfast so I'm getting full. Pork ginger stir-fry, the seasoning is strong even without piling it up. Well, it's delicious but I'm getting full. Finally, I met the Ogata special hamburger. A luxurious item made from Kagoshima saddleback pork and Aso red cow minced meat. I had a smaller hamburger due to being full, but the demi-glace sauce that everyone praises is sweet yet very flavorful and incredibly delicious ♥️❤️ I wish I had skipped two dishes and had more of this hamburger. Ogata special curry, another dish I couldn't finish the normal size, so I had the extra small size. Not very spicy, but the complex umami is outstanding, and I finished it all. Dessert was pudding. Thank you for the meal. Two fried fish dishes and two meat dishes were quite tough. Next time, I want to visit with a smaller appetite. After that, I took the usual Ochan taxi to Enryakuji Temple on Mt. Hiei. Lake Biwa was beautiful, and while Kyoto city was 38°C, Mt. Hiei was 28°C ❗ It was very comfortable. Despite still feeling full, we headed to a dinner spot in Kyoto city. #Kyoto #KyotoGourmet #KyotoLunch #YoshokuOgata #Tabelog #Foodstagram #WesternCuisine #WantToConnectWithFoodies #HardToReserveRestaurant #HiroshimaGourmet #It was a lunch eaten in a state of agony after a long time ===========

I usually order a la carte, but this time I tried the course menu which included goya (bitter melon) ohitashi (boiled dish), peach and tofu salad, seared kinmedai (golden eye snapper) sashimi platter, chilled corn soup, rare-fried aji (horse mackerel), deep-fried swordfish, roasted pork rib loin with lemon sauce, steak hamburger and shrimp fry, mini curry, and homemade pudding. The portions were generous and it was a bit challenging to finish towards the end, but it was amazing as always.

Around June, I had planned to go watch the Gion Festival with my daughter who attends a university in Kansai. I called to make a lunch reservation at "Ogata" with the intention of whether to watch the Yamahoko Junko in the pre-festival or post-festival, but I was told that they are closed around the pre-festival and post-festival, and that reservations are fully booked until the end of August. So, I decided to go on the day of the pre-festival since it seemed more lively. I arrived in Kyoto around noon on Friday to coincide with the Yoiyama event of the pre-festival. My daughter had classes, so she couldn't join me, and I accidentally took the wrong train transfer instead of my usual bus, so I ended up getting off at Karasuma Oike and started walking towards the Kamogawa River. I noticed the Kyoto City Hall on my right and remembered that "Ogata" was around this area. I decided to give it a try despite not having any prior knowledge of the place. As I looked around, I saw a small sign of "Ogata" on a low-rise building that blended into the surroundings. The restaurant was small and cozy, with a modern and bright interior. The entrance had counter seats for solo diners and the back had table seats. I arrived slightly after the lunch peak, so even though reservations were supposed to be full, I was seated immediately without waiting. I ordered the Hamburger Steak Set for 3,250 yen, which was a safe choice as I didn't plan on having a fancy meal. The portion was generous, with a colorful and beautiful salad, delicious macaroni salad, vegetable soup, and a hamburger steak with demi-glace sauce. The hamburger steak was not as expected, with a firm texture and a unique demi-glace sauce that had a hint of acidity. It was different from what I imagined, so I deducted a star from my rating. Perhaps I had set my expectations too high. Overall, the meal was delicious and I would like to try the course menu next time.

I have visited this restaurant during lunchtime before, but this was my first time dining for dinner. As they advertise themselves as a Western-style Japanese cuisine restaurant, dinner is the best time to fully experience their charm. With hunger and excitement, I entered the restaurant. The menu was extensive, making it difficult to choose what to order at first glance. Without holding back my appetite, I indulged in classic Western dishes like hamburger steak and steak, as well as nostalgic flavors like Napolitan and omurice, and even creative dishes using seasonal ingredients like Kamo eggplant. Every dish served lived up to my expectations, with each one being incredibly delicious. Furthermore, the fantastic performance of Chef Ogata and the other cooks, along with the lively atmosphere of the open kitchen, filled the restaurant with energy and satisfied my heart. However, it was clear that such a blissful experience came at a price. Considering the quality of the food and service, the total bill of 33,000 yen for dishes, one draft beer, one oolong tea, three glasses of wine, and two coffees was reasonable (for reference).

I had always wanted to visit Ogotasan, a Western-style restaurant in Kyoto known for its delicious food. I made a reservation about a month ago and went for lunch. The special hamburger with demi-glace sauce was amazing, and I chose the Japanese-style onion as a side dish. The meal also came with salad and soup, and the soup was full of vegetable flavor, even more delicious than it looked. The hamburger was cooked crispy on the outside but had a mild and gentle flavor. The demi-glace sauce really changed the taste. Personally, I preferred the demi-glace sauce. The mashed potatoes served with the meal were incredibly tasty. I would love to try their beef cutlet as well, as they seem to focus on the quality of the meat. I enjoyed watching the kitchen from the counter seats. Thank you for the delicious meal.
