I told the hotel staff that I wanted to eat conger eel and sweetfish, and they researched and made a reservation for me. They offered me two courses, one for 16,000 yen and another for 22,000 yen, and I chose the 22,000 yen course. When I arrived, I realized it was a high-class establishment, and I regretted not dressing more formally. However, I enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the private room with a well-maintained garden. The meal started with edamame and tofu, followed by a delicious conger eel dish that exceeded my expectations. The sashimi and steamed abalone were also exceptional. The highlight was the grilled sweetfish, which turned out to be natural young sweetfish from a river near Lake Biwa. I was speechless at how amazing it tasted. The meal ended with a delightful dessert and green tea. I was thoroughly impressed and grateful to the chef for such an incredible dining experience. It was well worth the 22,000 yen I paid.

On this day, the main goal was to visit "Shimogamo Saryo Main Store" in the Shimogamo area. I made a reservation online through Tabelog and ordered the "Kaiseki Fukuzen" course, which includes seasonal dishes and appetizers for a total of 10 items. The restaurant has private rooms, but this time I chose a regular seat. The attention to detail in the dishes was decent, as you can see from the photos. Overall, I thought to myself, "Ah, this is delicious. Japanese cuisine is really good." The dishes were carefully prepared, beautiful, and delicious. It was a well-balanced experience where each dish complemented the others. The service was impeccable as well. I used a vaccine discount coupon, which made the meal even more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and would love to visit again. After the meal, I walked along the Kamogawa River, enjoyed the plum blossoms in Kyoto Gyoen, and walked back to the hotel, all on foot. The total bill was 33,335 yen, but with the coupon, it came to 23,335 yen.

Established in 1856, this long-established Kyoto cuisine restaurant provided us with a delightful bento box at Shimogamo Shrine. Each dish was carefully crafted with attention to detail, making for a truly happy dining experience. The assortment of delicacies included sea urchin, sea bream, sea bass, tuna, conger eel, octopus, cutlassfish, eel, and sweetfish, offering a wide variety and high satisfaction. Among them, the incredibly tender octopus left a lasting impression, challenging our preconceptions.

Visited Kyoto's "Shimogamo Charyo Honten" on June 30th after a long time. This Michelin one-star restaurant is known for its exquisite cuisine. It was the day of "Nagoshi no Harae," a ritual to purify oneself from the impurities accumulated over the past six months and pray for good health for the remaining six months. The meal started with a dish featuring Kamo eggplant, junmai, and yuba surinagashi. The presentation was beautiful, and the flavors truly captured the essence of Kyoto. The following courses included dishes like flounder, squid, and sea urchin, all prepared with precision and care. The highlight was the grilled ayu with tadezu, a dish that perfectly captured the flavors of early summer. Each course was a delight to the senses, with ingredients like lotus root, corn tempura, and octopus, showcasing the best of Kyoto's seasonal produce. The meal ended with a refreshing dessert of lemon ice cream and mango, a perfect conclusion to a memorable dining experience.

I had the opportunity to visit Shimogamo Charyo and was looking forward to it. I used it for a celebration, and the menu and atmosphere were full of Kyoto charm. The restaurant is located very close to the World Heritage Site Shimogamo Shrine, giving it a historical and dignified feel. The appearance of the sea bream with its head intact was like an event, and everyone gathered around. The large number of dishes meant that it took quite a bit of time, but overall I was satisfied.

I had the opportunity to use it privately. The location is excellent, and the beautiful garden visible from the private room adds to the luxurious feel. The dishes were all carefully and skillfully made, without being too fancy, and were truly delicious. As a result, it was quite expensive. However, the staff's attitude was a bit distant.

We decided on our engagement and used Shimogamo Charyo for our first meeting. We had a private room with a view of the Kamo River and even a gold folding screen prepared for us, with cute cranes placed throughout the dishes. To be honest, I would recommend the regular course over the celebration course in terms of food, but we had a wonderful time in a lovely atmosphere with thoughtful details.

I went to a restaurant with a beautiful garden out of 13,000 options for lunch. The atmosphere was great and all the fish dishes were delicious! Especially the tuna sashimi and sea bream rice were tasty, although I didn't have much appetite due to skipping breakfast. Considering the price, I thought it was just okay.

I received a lunch coupon and made a reservation to visit. It is a high-class restaurant, so the cars parked there were all luxury cars. Since I wanted to enjoy some alcohol as well, I went there by train. I had appetizers, soup, sashimi, assorted dishes, and a grilled yellowtail dish with crab sauce, all paired with delicious Japanese sake. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

The room was spacious, with ample space between tables, and I felt reassured by the COVID-19 prevention measures in place. Every dish was carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. As a resident of Kyoto, I particularly love the flavors of Sakyo Charyo, which truly capture the essence of Kyoto cuisine. I hope to revisit in the evening sometime.

I had a great time! The seasonal delicacies like shirako, sashimi, ebiimo, ikura rice were all amazing. The dessert was sweet potato amanatto, which I thought would be heavy, but it was light and simple with almost no sweetness. The matcha tea was also excellent. The restaurant had a wall of glass windows, and the garden outside was softly lit up, creating a beautiful atmosphere. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

It is a famous restaurant with a long history. The history seems ancient, and although I do not know much about it, the appearance of the building is impressive. As you enter through the curtain, you are greeted by large flower arrangements, emphasizing that everything here is not only about the food but also about art. The desire for guests to enjoy everything, from the cuisine to the scenery, is evident. I love trying different foods, but sometimes it is important to visit places where you can appreciate not only the cuisine but also the traditions. The dishes I had included various seasonal delicacies, all delicious and true to Kyoto's style. Enjoying autumn-themed dishes by the Kamogawa River made me feel peaceful, transcending the simple notions of tasty or not. Although what I had that day may have been more like banquet cuisine, I felt like I had experienced the essence of Kyoto's dining culture. I would love to visit again if I have the chance, as it was truly a wonderful restaurant.

Before visiting Mt. Hiei Enryaku-ji Temple, we stopped by this restaurant. The kaiseki meal started with an appetizer, followed by a cold soup, sashimi, simmered dish, grilled dish, and rice. The food was delicious and reflected the seasonal flavors of Kyoto. However, the red miso soup that came with the rice had some strange white cabbage scraps floating in it, which seemed out of place and didn't match the overall meal. It would have been better with just green onions, shiso leaves, or myoga instead. Despite this, the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere with a cool courtyard and the sound of water, offering relief from the summer heat.

Visited here for a certain reason. Lunch cost over 8000 yen, which is unimaginable for common people. Due to various circumstances, this time it will be treated. It may be presumptuous for me in such circumstances to evaluate, but I would like to write my impressions as an ordinary person. First of all, the atmosphere of the restaurant is extraordinary. Wiping the sweat with a hot towel while looking at the serene garden makes you forget your daily life. I can't explain each dish in detail, but overall, the beauty of the presentation and the quality of the ingredients enhanced by the broth are evident. The flavors are not overpowering, but you can clearly taste the ingredients. The final rice dish is also very delicious. It goes extremely well with the specialty dried fish and mountain pepper. I think it would be very good for people from other prefectures or foreign visitors coming to Kyoto. I aspire to be able to enjoy such experiences in the future. Thank you very much.

We visited the restaurant with 5 friends for a summer get-together. One of my friends booked the private room and we enjoyed the "Fukuzen" lunch course for 13,200 yen. The service charge for the private room was 15%. We also ordered a shochu with dashi for 880 yen, bringing the total to around 16,000 yen. The menu included various dishes like water tofu, conger eel with kudzu, and grilled striped jack with squid. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. Overall, we had a great time trying out different dishes and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.

This place was always used for lunch boxes, so this time we decided to try dinner as well and ended up going to the main store. It is located in a quiet residential area along the Kamo River, with a lovely garden. We had the 15,000 yen course this time, and I thought it was a bit expensive to fully enjoy this space. However, the quality of the food was very high, with no compromises in ingredients, techniques, or presentation. The dishes were not flashy but all satisfying. I hope that these traditional and conscientious restaurants can survive even during the pandemic. Thank you for the meal.

Valentine's Day is one day early because it falls on a Monday, but I received a Valentine's gift from my wife. She treated me to a special Valentine's afternoon tea at Shimogamo Charyo, a traditional Japanese restaurant. We enjoyed light snacks and delicious sweets while overlooking the garden. We had unlimited coffee, tea, matcha, and soft drinks. The snacks were all delicious, reminiscent of the gourmet flavors found in department store food halls. The sweets were elegant and sophisticated, a step above the usual. The atmosphere was delightful, allowing us to savor each item. The staff were attentive, appearing at just the right moment to offer refills. I had low expectations for the drinks, but was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the ginger ale, white grape juice, orange juice, matcha, and coffee. The orange juice, in particular, was exceptionally good. Overall, the Valentine's afternoon tea at the traditional Japanese restaurant was a wonderful experience. I wonder what to do for White Day now.

I was looking forward to visiting, but when I arrived, they had implemented measures to prevent the spread of the virus. I was considering canceling, but decided to go in the end. It seemed like they were cutting corners because there were no other customers besides us, and the food wasn't as delicious as I had expected. Especially the woman who served us had a terrible attitude - she was expressionless and unfriendly when serving the dishes. It's hard to enjoy a meal when the service is like that. Maybe we just had bad luck.

There was no weekday lunch available, but I was led to a private Japanese-style room in the back for a reasonable price, and I felt that the restaurant was good value for money. I really like this place. The owner and president, Kaoru Oyama, who is well-known for his appearances on cooking shows and the film "Departures," has been incorporating new elements for about 10 years now. The dishes are not too heavy or too light, striking a perfect balance that makes it a very cozy place for me. Today, the striped jack sashimi, marinated goby, and taro were particularly impressive and delicious.

Opposite the Kamigamo Shrine. This traditional Japanese restaurant gained attention when it was purchased by the broadcast writer Kaoru Koizumi. With a history of 160 years, it has a traditional feel but offers modern service and flavors. The counter seating provides a lively atmosphere, but relaxing in a private room with a view of the courtyard is also nice. They serve a small amount of sake from the nearby Matsui Sake Brewery, including Junmai and Junmai Daiginjo. Koizumi, who is an advisor for JAL, has selected wines that are also served in JAL's First Class. The dishes may not be extravagant, but they are simply delicious.

Since I went all the way to Kyoto, I wanted to visit a traditional Kyoto-style restaurant. Even though I didn't have a reservation, we were able to get in right after they opened. It was a classic, well-established ryotei with a great atmosphere. We were seated in a room on the second floor and enjoyed a leisurely lunch course. The seasonal Japanese dishes were delicious and really captured the essence of Kyoto.

I was led by an acquaintance to a spacious private room for three people, and just looking at the menu filled with Japanese delicacies made me excited. This restaurant in Kyoto left such a strong impression on me that it's still the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Kyoto. I definitely want to visit again in a different season. They seem to offer courses with guaranteed private rooms, so when you visit, be sure to book a private room.
