Kona's Coffee Kodashi Store @ Kodaira City, Tokyo @ Coffee Shop, Hawaiian
I visited this restaurant for lunch after about a year since my last visit in the evening. The review is the first time in two years since June 14, 2021. I remember the limited-time shaved ice being delicious, but it was not available today. This is a lovely cafe that makes you feel like you're relaxing in a Hawaiian countryside cafe, and it opened on February 28, 2020. This Hawaiian cafe was produced by Toridoll Holdings, which also operates Marugame Seimen, with the first store opening in Fujimino, Saitama in 2013. It has since grown rapidly and now has 41 stores expanding from Kanto to Western Japan, with the southernmost location being in Miyazaki. In the Tama area of Tokyo, there are stores in Kodaira, Hachioji, and Seijo Gakuen (Chofu). It is located on the right side as you head north on Shinkojimai Road from Musashikoganei, past Gokashi Street and the Kokinai Country Club. This place is suddenly Hawaiian! The building is a wooden structure painted in blue, more like what you would see on Oahu's North Shore rather than Kona. The parking lot is spacious, with Steak no Matsuki and Sukiya on both sides, making it a lively area. At the entrance, you are greeted by palm trees and surfboards. Furthermore, at night, many gas torches burn brightly in front of the store, further enhancing the Hawaiian atmosphere. Hawaiian burgers and Hawaiian pancakes are popular, with various types of pancakes, loco moco, garlic shrimp, eggs benedict, and other Hawaiian foods available. The coffee is a blend of 100% Kona coffee, with American-style coffees such as lattes, cappuccinos, and caramel macchiatos lined up. Juices, smoothies, and lemonades are also available, of course. Today, I visited alone for a light meal, and I ordered: Ahi Poke Rice Plate 1,529 yen, and Iced Soy Latte 715 yen. The Ahi Poke Rice plate features tuna (ahi) instead of the salmon poke commonly seen in Japanese restaurants, with a refreshing taste, beautiful colors of tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, and ikura. However, I personally do not like the oily sauce that is poured over it, as it feels too heavy. Also, the flavor is a bit monotonous, so it would be better to pay an additional fee to make it spicy. The soy latte was generous in portion and delicious. Also, even when there were empty seats, the service was slow, and there were complaints in the waiting area, so I feel that improvements are needed. I would like to try the classic loco moco next time, so I hope to visit again soon. One disappointing thing is that they do not have Spam musubi, a Hawaiian specialty. I hope they will consider adding it to the menu. Recommended rating: ★★★★★
