After conquering the top 100 curry restaurants on Tabelog, I've been exploring highly-rated places to find my favorite spots by going on food adventures. I visited this place for the first time on a sweltering Saturday. ■ Tabelog TOP 5000 ■ Tabelog rating: 3.75 Location: 1F Peace Building, 4-2-8 Yoyogi, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo Access: 5-second walk from Odakyu Line Sangubashi Station exit * Arrived at the restaurant at 11:40, with no one else lining up, it was extremely hot, so I went to the cafe across the street, drank an iced coffee while watching from the window, planning to go when someone started lining up. * At 11:50, no one was in line, but decided to line up! Got a PP ticket! * At exactly 12:00, I was seated at the table farthest back. Today's curries: ◎ Butter Chicken (mildly spicy) - A mature taste with a kick of green chili and black pepper. ◎ Sambar (medium spicy) - A super classic vegetarian curry from South India. ◎ Chicken Curry (spicy) - A sharp and spicy curry with tender chicken. ◎ Forbidden Beef Keema [phase3] (medium spicy) - A North Indian curry with coarsely ground beef. Order: Curry set with 4 types of curry B, 150g of rice, 1 paratha, boiled egg, total 2440 yen * Plates arrived at 12:08. It was nice that a woman explained in detail! * Finished eating at 12:28 and paid the bill with pey pey. The curry was very delicious. I especially love spicy curries, not overly sharp but with spiciness adjusted by spices. The Forbidden Beef Keema lived up to its name, it was exquisite! It's been a while since a dish really hit the spot for me (laughs). The Sambar and Chicken Curry were also delicious. The Butter Chicken had a hint of coconut flavor and a nice spiciness that followed. It's good that the entrance of this restaurant states they don't serve sweet curries! I definitely want to visit again soon. It was so tasty - thank you for reading until the end! If you could give a 'like,' 'follow,' 'save the restaurant,' or leave a 'comment,' it would be a great encouragement for the future, so thank you in advance!

This is my first visit. The restaurant is open for lunch only 3-4 times a week, and the prices are quite high. I've been curious about it but haven't had the chance until today. The restaurant was full, so I waited about 10 minutes to place my order. I ordered three types of curry - B set with 150g of rice + 1 paratha for 1590 yen (tax included). The three types I ordered were Butter Chicken (mildly spicy), Murgh (spicy), and Sambal (medium spicy). The dishes were served in about 5-10 minutes after ordering. First, I tried the Butter Chicken and was convinced that this restaurant was a hit. It was delicious. The creamy Butter Chicken was tasty whether eaten with rice or paratha. Next was the Murgh, which had a strong and meaty flavor. Lastly, the Sambal had a gentle seasoning. Since the Butter Chicken and Murgh were quite powerful curries, the Sambal was a nice balance. The paratha was not greasy and had a refreshing taste, making it easy to pair with the curries. In addition, there was vegetable soup called Rasam, lentil curry in the middle, and Indian-style pickles, making the lunch quite satisfying. The Indian-style pickles were quite spicy, so those who don't like spicy food should be cautious.

■Restaurant Information Butter chicken, a favorite for many. In Chiba, there are many famous restaurants like Sitar and Sarnath, but it's not so common in Tokyo. Today I visited Raja near Sangubashi. They are open for lunch only on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, so it's a bit exclusive. I happened to have some business in Sangubashi for lunch on Sunday, so it was my first visit. It's a popular spot, and people keep coming in. Today, I ordered the following menu items. ■What I Ate - Curry 4 Variety Set (Rice 150g + 1 Paratha) ¥1950 - Butter Chicken - Delhi Chicken Keema - Pork Vindaloo (+¥150) - Goa Fish Curry (+¥100) - Iced Chai (lunch drink) ¥380 It arrived in about 30 minutes. It takes quite a bit of time. Of course, I started with the butter chicken. Among the four varieties, it's the mildest. I prefer a bit more acidity from the tomatoes, but the chicken is tender and the butter chicken is delicious. The Delhi Chicken Keema and Goa Fish Curry are quite spicy. The Pork Vindaloo has a unique taste with the fusion of acidity and spiciness. Even within the one plate of curry, there were various differences and they were all delicious. The Paratha was flaky and delicious. The chai had a mature taste. If you love Indian curry, be sure to check this place out! Sangubashi. Just a minute's walk from the station that is not very busy. It was a Saturday but we were seated right away. The restaurant is reasonably spacious. There was only one lady serving in the dining hall. It seems like a husband and wife operation. Today's menu is written on a blackboard. You can choose from 1 to 4 types of curry, and decide between rice or paratha. This time we chose a set with 3 types of curry, 150g of rice, and 1 piece of paratha. The curries were Butter Chicken, Delhi Chicken Kheema, and Pog Pindal, all on the spicy side. The lady explained each curry when they arrived. She suggested putting papad on the rice, mixing it with achar, and eating it. This way of eating was amazing! The curries were indeed quite spicy and flavorful. The rasam was also delicious. Everything seemed carefully prepared and was excellent! Since it's run by just two people, it can get busy and the service might be slow or there could be a long wait, so it's good to be aware of that before going! Thank you for the meal!

I visited around 3 PM today, and I was the only customer, making it the shortest visit ever! I ordered the famous Butter Chicken and my favorite Chicken Curry with rice set. Even without extra curry sauce, it only cost 1290 yen, but the satisfaction I felt was worth double the value. This is a fantastic restaurant!

Sangubashi RAJA "Curry 4 Types (A)" is a popular Indian curry specialty restaurant run by a couple who can be considered as a longstanding curry shop since its opening in 1995. They are open for lunch on Fridays to Sundays and Tuesdays (4 days a week) from 12pm to 4pm (with early closure). The menu offers a selection of 1 to 4 types of Today's Curry, Chicken Curry [Spicy], Chana Masala [North Indian curry with chickpeas], Butter Chicken [mildly spicy], and the forbidden Beef Kheema [phase 3] [medium spicy] for an additional 200 yen. There's also the Red Hot Chili Pepper Chicken Curry [super spicy] for an extra 400 yen, with rice and paratha combinations A to C to choose from. The reviewer tried a variety of curries and found them to be flavorful and authentically spicy, especially enjoying the Butter Chicken, Beef Kheema, Red Hot Chili Pepper Chicken Curry, Chana Masala, and Rasam. Overall, they felt that the restaurant offered a truly authentic Indian curry experience.

An elderly couple runs a Japanese-Indian curry restaurant (spicy). It somehow reminds me of Yuutenji Karnapina. "Today, we have bitter melon. Would you like to try it?" Polite and elegant order explanations and recommendations. I'll definitely have that. May I have it? There seems to be something very spicy, but as an adult who knows the spiciness of Karnapina, I suppress my curiosity and go for the regular curry. It's still quite spicy, similar to Karnapina, but not as extreme. The rule of "It will take some time" restaurants usually means it won't take that long, and the service is smooth. The taste, perfected over the years, leans more towards Indian than Karnapina. Thank you for your time.

Long time no see ^ ^ I couldn't resist trying the forbidden beef keema haha, but it was truly amazing. This time, I chose the classic butter chicken, sambar, and the forbidden beef keema, and they were all incredibly delicious! I regret not getting extra rice haha. Next time, I'll definitely get the extra portion without hesitation. Thank you for the delicious meal!

Unable to withstand the heat, I tried the frozen lemon spiced sour made with domestic lemons, which had a hint of spice. I ordered three types of curry at A (serving with 220g of rice) starting from the left in a clockwise direction: the sand liver curry, the forbidden beef keema curry, and the chicken curry with sambal and rasam. The bitter gourd curry, Wool Guy, was also included. The forbidden beef keema curry is a limited-time menu for the Japanese Curry Festival 2023. The coarse ground beef was rich in flavor and paired perfectly with the rice! Mixing the bitterness of the bitter gourd, Wool Guy, with the curry is something I crave when summer arrives. Today's meal was incredibly delicious as always!

I visited the restaurant about 15 minutes before opening on a Friday. I lined up at the front and the restaurant was fully packed as soon as it opened. I checked their operating hours on Facebook before visiting. I ordered the 4-item B set (Butter Chicken, Sambal, Beef Keema, and Red Chili) with boiled eggs and bitter gourd as toppings. The service was polite and they kindly explained everything from scratch. There were no condiments on the table. Each curry was carefully made, spicy, especially the Red Chili which was quite hot and made me sweat from the core of my body. The portions were generous and it was really delicious.

- Curry 4 Types B Set (1,950 yen) ✔︎ Butter Chicken [Slightly Spicy] ✔︎ Murgh Curry [Spicy] ✔︎ Sambar [Medium Spicy] ✔︎ Kerala Pork Keema [Medium Spicy] (+50 yen) - Extra Rice (+130 yen) - Boiled Egg (90 yen) - Bitter Gourd Ulgai (180 yen) - Fresh Lemon Sour (680 yen) Visited with a rating of 3.74. The restaurant is relatively close to my workplace, but it is only open for lunch on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, making it unexpectedly distant. I stopped by on a Saturday morning on my way back from an outing. The cooking and serving are done by two people, so I waited leisurely. Visited at 11:58 on Saturday. Waited with 6 groups and 10 people ahead of me. Got seated as the 7th group. Opened at 12:00. All 9 tables were filled as everyone entered. Placed my order at 12:30. Received the Lemon Sour at 12:41 and the curry at 12:48. Left at 13:18 with 4 groups still in the restaurant. *It was quite hot, so I took shelter in the coffee shop next door until it opened. If you line up around 11:45, you can be the first group and leave by 12:30. *Even if you are dining alone, they will seat you at a 4-person table. If you don't get in with the first 9 groups when they open, you might have to wait until the first group leaves, which can be tough in the heat. *On the other hand, you can probably get in without waiting after 1:00 PM. ✔︎ Murgh (Chicken) Curry [Spicy, Salty] The spiciness of cayenne pepper and the aroma of cloves are irresistible. Sharpness and allure coexist. It feels like being cut in the neck by a beautiful woman in a Chinese dress wielding a Qinglong sword (unclear). - Butter Chicken [Sweet] The gravy is a pale orange color, with butter that is smooth and milky in texture. As mentioned by others, it is similar to the Butter Chicken at Sitar (Kemigawa). It's like a baby's cheek (unclear). - Keema [Salty, Fatty] You can feel the texture of the meat the most. The rice tastes delicious with the sticky fatty juices. The fresh raw onions complement the fat nicely. It's like a hunter brimming with wildness (unclear). - Sambar [Sweet, Salty] A soft, stewed sambar with a dal-like texture. The saltiness is just right, bringing out the deliciousness of the vegetables. It's like the mother earth (unclear). - Rasam [Sour] Not as spicy as Murgh Curry, with a pleasant acidity. ✔︎ Bitter Gourd Ulgai [Bitter] Added with onion achar halfway through. The bitterness of the bitter gourd is not too strong, perhaps due to the pickling process, but when mixed with everything, you can enjoy the taste as it pulls you back with its bitterness. Highly recommend the bitter gourd topping. ◯ Fresh Lemon Sour [Refreshing] Made with domestically grown lemons pickled in spices, it's not too sweet. Refreshing. The four different types of curries mixed together intricately were delicious. It was satisfying to see each one generously filled with ingredients. A perfect Saturday lunch, thank you for the meal.

Recently, there seems to be some movement in the top Tokyo curry restaurants. When I searched after a long time, I found that there were highly rated restaurants that I had never been to before. This place also seems to be popular. I found out there would be a line, so I arrived before opening and the line started to grow quickly. Be careful because the waiting area is under the scorching sun. The interior is surprisingly spacious, with only 4-person tables. You can choose the combination of rice and paratha and the amount of rice. There are 4 types of curry to choose from. I chose sambal and chicken curry. It took a little time before it was served, so it took about 30 minutes from entering for the 4th group. The curry is very delicious. It goes very well with rice. It's a bit disappointing that the paratha was a little dry and tough.

I got off at Sangubashi Station and the restaurant was right in front of me. I arrived around 12:15 and there was a short line, I was the third in line. However, there was no shade under the scorching sun, so I had to wait for 40-50 minutes. I used a parasol and hydrated, but still felt a bit dizzy after entering the restaurant. I ordered the spicy chicken curry and medium-spicy sambal set for ¥1,380. The rice was basmati rice, which paired well with the curry. The chicken curry was flavorful and delicious. Perhaps because I was feeling overheated, the overall taste of the curry didn't quite hit the spot. I'd like to come back when it's cooler next time.

The restaurant is only open for lunch, but it's great that they stay open until 4 p.m. when you're running late for lunch. The curries pack a punch without anything overpowering, each curry has its own distinct flavor, and the balance is just right. I ordered the curry set B (with 150g of rice and 1 paratha) with butter chicken, chicken curry, sambar, Kerala pork keema. The meal also came with rasam, dal, pickled purple onions, and papad. I added the beetroot pachadi, which stood out with its shocking pink color! It's not just cute, it's delicious too! The sweetness of the beetroot and coconut, combined with the tanginess of yogurt, is creamy yet refreshing. Mixing it with the curry is highly recommended. The crispy yet chewy paratha goes well with the butter chicken and Kerala pork keema. This might be the most delicious paratha I've ever had. Everything was delicious today too. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived at the restaurant around 11:30 AM, and even though there was already a line by 11:45 AM, we were able to get in for the first seating. I chose two types of curry, one with mutton and vegetables. Both were very delicious, and the portion was satisfying for a woman. The mother kindly taught us how to eat the curry, which made it even more enjoyable.

I operate a curry blog mainly focusing on the 23 wards of Tokyo. Spice Cafe RAJA is located just a few steps from the ticket gate of Odakyu Line's Sangubashi Station. I visited during opening hours and there were already about three groups of customers inside, with more coming in quickly - it's a popular spot. Customers were chatting with the staff like regulars. You can choose from a single serving to a four-item plate, with options for rice quantity and paratha. I opted for a 3-item plate and, since I really wanted to try the paratha, I ordered the B set with a small amount of rice plus an extra large rice portion - a somewhat contradictory order. It seemed more cost-effective than ordering paratha separately. After a 15-minute wait, a large plate arrived! The plate looked so delicious and full of volume. The 3 items I ordered were butter chicken, pork vindaloo, and Delhi chicken keema, with an added option of lemon pickle. I've been hooked on lemon pickle ever since trying it with a salad. RAJA's curry has a spicy base with clear flavors that pair well with the rice. The rice, a special blend of Aomori's "Massigura," Saga's "Hoshiyutaka," and India's "Basmati rice," was delicious and paired perfectly with any curry. The butter chicken had a rich umami flavor with a good level of spiciness and thick consistency that paired well with the rice, but even better with the paratha. The crispy outer layer of the paratha was to my liking. The pork vindaloo, which costs an additional 100 yen, was delicious and justified by the quality of the pork used. It had two large chunks of pork that went well with the rice. Mixing it with the locally made lemon pickle added a vibrant flavor to the dish. I recommend ordering extra rice for men!

Today, I visited Rajah for lunch, a place I had been curious about. It is run by a Japanese couple. I ordered the following: - Curry 4 types B set for 1,850 yen (tax included) - Pork Vindaloo for an additional 100 yen - Lemon Pickle for 180 yen - Lassi B set, which includes 150g of rice and 1 paratha. You can choose from 5 types of curry: Butter Chicken, Chana Masala, Pork Vindaloo, Chicken Curry. The Butter Chicken had a rich buttery flavor with a gentle sweetness, combining well with the chicken's umami, making it mild and very delicious. The others were described as spicy, almost at the limit of tolerance for spiciness. Nevertheless, each had a distinct umami and deep flavor, making all the curries extremely tasty. The chicken and pork were in large pieces, adding to the satisfaction. Finally, I mixed everything together, as is customary. Did the Lemon Pickle get mixed in too? I'm not sure, maybe it blended in when I mixed everything. I finished everything, sweating, but satisfied. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

On this day, I ordered the 3 curry dish with extra rice and achar topping. Even though it's called a 3-curry dish, as you can see in the photo, you get an additional plate each time. You can enjoy them separately or mix them with the rice. There are various curry types available, but I highly recommend the mutton keema curry, so be sure to try it when it's available. It's a good idea to check their business days on social media.

It's the shop right in front of the ticket gate at the station. The flavors are quite strong, and the side soup was also very spicy, so if you don't like spicy food, be careful! There seem to be various ways to eat it, but I was too busy dealing with the spiciness to try them out (laughs). Inside the curry, there was a slightly strong-flavored condiment that, when bitten into, dominated the inside of my mouth. I wonder if that was something you shouldn't eat, or what... For those who like it, it's definitely a delicious taste! For me, it was just a little too strong in flavor.

Today, as rain was forecasted, I decided to go to Rajasan, which I was curious about, because it's close to the station. Currently, it seems they are open on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but it's irregular so checking on SNS is essential. It's right in front of Sangūbashi Station, with excellent access, but be careful as you may get wet when lining up before opening, haha. If you arrive 15 minutes before opening on Tuesdays, there's no wait. They opened at 11:55. The restaurant is spacious with plenty of room. An elderly couple, perhaps the owners, were running the place together. The tables are for four people, and there's no sharing, so it fills up quickly. Even on this day, by 12:10, several groups had been turned away. It might be reassuring to arrive a little before opening. The turnover is slow as it's run by the couple. The menu is choosing a main dish and curry. A Rice 220g, B Rice 150g + 1 Paratha, C 2 Parathas. Today's curries were Murgh Kali, Delhi Pork Keema, Sambar, Butter Chicken. I chose A. The curries arrived in about 10 minutes. The portion of curry was generous, which made me happy! I love Butter Chicken, haha. It has a creamy dairy richness and strong flavor, but not too sweet, making it a perfect match with rice. The acidity is just right, not too strong or weak, creating a perfect balance. The chili and pepper give it a kick, making it rich but not too heavy. It was a delicious taste I had never experienced before and I got hooked, haha. The chicken pieces were large and moist. They were all delicious. The Pork Keema was also incredibly tasty - the meat was flavorful and spicy, making it hard to stop eating. The rice is a blend of Japanese rice and Basmati, with a great texture and flavor that pairs well with the curries. The curries were so tasty that I ran out of rice with two types. As mentioned on the menu, if you order three or more, the large portion of rice is recommended. The Paratha was also delicious! Sometimes they can be soft or bland, but these were always crispy with just the right amount of salt, pairing well with the rice. A place with delicious Paratha is always a winner, haha. I was extremely satisfied with the taste, portion size, and quality, which I think is reasonably priced. The curries alone were outstanding, but their performance when combined was excellent. The couple seemed to be very particular about their curries, and their passion for cooking was evident. Without a doubt, this is a top-notch restaurant! Thank you for the meal!
