Visited the Japanese confectionery shop "Juvansel" in Gion, and tried their popular Gion Hondu dessert. It is exclusive to the Gion store and consists of rich Uji matcha with chocolate sauce, along with baked goods, chestnuts, sweet potatoes, rice cakes, bracken rice cakes, and fruits. It was absolutely delicious! The cafe overlooks Gion from the second floor, providing a relaxing atmosphere. You can also purchase souvenir sweets and fresh chocolates. There are also stores at Isetan and Takashimaya Kyoto. I thought I saw Maiko-san, but it turned out to be a foreigner dressed in Maiko attire. Many foreigners were wearing yukata, it was amusing! As a bonus, I also saw the life-size Yamahoko float from the famous Gion Festival near the cafe. It was surprisingly huge!

The appearance, taste, and price were all very good, and this was my third visit. However, the attitude of the staff was disappointing. When I called to make a reservation, they said that they were fully booked for 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm. But when my friend called again two days before, they easily offered us a reservation for 1 pm. When we arrived at the restaurant at 2 pm, there were hardly any customers, making us wonder if we could have reserved for 2 pm after all. It left us with many doubts. It would have been better if they had just told us upfront that they don't normally accept reservations for that time slot. Also, they didn't even mention the name of the restaurant when answering the phone, which felt odd.

I traveled from Osaka to Kyoto and visited a shrine. After an early breakfast, I started feeling a bit hungry around 11 am. One of the great things about traveling alone is being able to move around freely. I decided to grab something to eat for lunch. I came across a cafe with a beautiful green curtain and decided to go in. It turned out to be Juvenusel Gion store. The cafe was quiet with only two other groups of customers. I ordered the "Luxury Indulgence" set, which included a selection of popular baked goods from Juvenusel. The most popular item was a pound cake called "The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter" made with chestnuts and black beans, but my favorite was the Gâteau Chocolat with a hint of yuzu. It was delicious.

To my favorite Jubansel-san as always. This is a cafe I always stop by when I come to Kyoto. I ordered the cake set, and this time I chose the strawberry Mont Blanc. It has a creamy filling with whole strawberries and custard inside. Beneath that is sponge and pie crust. The iced coffee is always delicious, and my husband always goes for the beer. In this area where many restaurants are crowded and hard to get into, this place is surprisingly easy to enter and the seating is spacious, so I think it's a hidden gem. I'd like to try the fondue next time. Thank you for the delicious meal. I will visit again!

I made a reservation just before 12:30 on a regular weekday and they accepted it, so I went. There were still plenty of seats available. I ordered the Gion fondue and cake set. The Gion fondue came in a two-tiered container, which looked very elegant and photogenic! It was fun to dip the items in matcha by myself, and it was a lovely snack that was enjoyable to look at and delicious to eat. It was also a nice touch that you could make matcha latte by adding hot milk to the leftover matcha. It's a bit pricey, but it's sure to lift any girl's spirits. The cake set also had a strong chestnut flavor and was delicious!

Visited the Kyoto confectionery shop "Kyoyo Kashiji Juuvaseru" in Gion and tried their popular dessert "Florantan" which is a crispy treat sandwiched with vanilla and matcha ice cream, topped with fruits. It was delicious. Also, had a surprise with the giant-sized "mitarashi dango" on the way back, which I couldn't resist eating.

At the end of the year in Kyoto♡ After seeing Kiyomizu-dera, we arrived at the restaurant around 2 pm. There was no wait, so we were seated right away~!!! The couple next to us shared one matcha fondue between the two of them, but since we both have a sweet tooth, we got one each♡♡ (laughs) The matcha was delicious, and the sweet potatoes, chestnuts, and strawberries were also sweet, allowing us to taste the deliciousness of the ingredients♡ After finishing the fondue, we added milk to the matcha and enjoyed it. The only disappointing part was the poor service from the waiter who handled our bill at the end~,,,

No reservation needed, no wait, number of visitors - not specified, stay time - not specified, price 3000 yen per person. We received a pound cake with chestnuts and beans as a souvenir. It's a safe combination that won't disappoint, but I think it's more suitable as a gift for a friend's house nearby rather than as a Kyoto souvenir. Tale of the Bamboo Cutter.

Around Kiyomizu-dera Temple was extremely crowded. I was feeling exhausted, but then I saw a sign that I almost missed and decided to enter! When I took the elevator to the second floor, it was surprisingly empty – almost like a private room. I hurriedly checked Tabelog (a restaurant review website) and found out that it had pretty high ratings, so I felt relieved when I sat down. I enjoyed a matcha and chocolate fondue with traditional Japanese sweets and autumn desserts. It was a really enjoyable experience!

Here in Gion, Kyoto, I found a famous Western-style confectionery shop while exploring the area. When I peeked inside, I was surprised by the size of the shop! Beyond the display case, there was a stylish café with a variety of menu items. Since I was short on time, I decided to purchase a souvenir. The strawberry roll cake looked delicious, so I couldn't resist buying it.

Matcha roll cake! Iced coffee! I went to a popular cafe! The matcha roll cake had a sweet sponge with pieces of kashiwa mochi leaves as a fragrant accent! It was fun with plenty of toppings like shiratama, banana, chestnut, orange, and strawberry! My friend was enjoying a sweet chocolate with orange peel that had a strong orange aroma! Thank you for the delicious meal!

The Gion store is located 100m south of the South Tower Gate of Yasaka Shrine. The entrance is quiet, and we took the elevator to the second floor to relax on a lovely terrace. We tried the signature dish, "Gion Fondue" for 1,540 yen (tax included). It consists of warm matcha chocolate sauce for dipping fruits, rice cakes, and baked goods. The originality of the dish with plenty of fruits was light, but the rich matcha chocolate sauce added a satisfying taste. For dessert, we had the Mont Blanc set with chestnut cream, custard, and sweet potato, which was absolutely delicious. The summer gift recommendation, chocolate yokan, was also unique and tasty. It had a strong chocolate flavor with a smooth texture, complemented by the accompanying sauce. Overall, the dishes were sweet, fulfilling, and perfect for enjoying at home.

Season after season, you can enjoy the sweets of Kyoto confectionery Juvasel, which has captured the elegance of Kyoto in its Western-style sweets. Located near Yasaka Shrine, this sweets cafe offers a lovely terrace where you can admire the streets of Kyoto. I tried their specialty, "Gion Fondue," which was delightful. It consisted of a chocolate sauce made with Uji matcha, served with seasonal fruits, rice cakes, and pound cake for dipping. The combination of the sweet treats and the slightly grilled citrus fruits was amazing! To finish, they turned the leftover matcha fondue into matcha milk by adding hot milk. It was a delicious and enjoyable dish until the very end. The "Gion Komachi" dessert was beautifully presented. It featured a Mont Blanc made with chestnuts and sweet potatoes as the main attraction, surrounded by chestnuts, sweet potatoes, and popular cakes, making it a great value. The "Chocolat Yokan" was surprisingly delicious, with a perfect balance of Japanese and Western flavors. The rich chocolate terrine-like texture paired well with the refreshing sweetness of the yokan, creating a satisfying experience. It would make a great gift as well. It is quite sweet, so for those with a sweet tooth, this is a must-try! The dessert is decorated with chocolate sauce and orange peel inside the store. If you find yourself craving delicious and stylish Japanese and Western sweets when visiting Yasaka Shrine, be sure to check this place out. They also sell a variety of Kyoto-style souvenir sweets in the store.

I went for a break and lunch. Matcha lovers will love the matcha fondue!!! Dip various fruits and snacks into matcha sauce and eat them. It was so delicious, my mouth was filled with matcha happiness. Finally, I mixed the matcha sauce with milk to make matcha milk for a hot drink. I feel like I can walk to the next destination with energy. Business hours are 10:00-18:00 (Last order 17:30). Please note that the cafe area may close early depending on the situation. Open on Sundays.

On the third day of my trip to Kyoto using the GOTO Travel campaign, I explored Kiyomizu-dera, Kodai-ji, and Gion. I took a break at a cozy tea shop on the second floor of a building. I ordered the following items: 1. Cake set for 1,100 yen - A Mont Blanc cake with ice tea. The Mont Blanc cake had a gentle flavor with large chestnuts on top. 2. Green tea for 600 yen - A smooth and rich green tea. 3. Takeout item "Taketori Monogatari" for 2,700 yen - A luxurious snack wrapped in bamboo skin, filled with plenty of large chestnuts and black beans. The filling was more abundant than the dough. Although it was a bit pricey, one-eighth of the portion was satisfying enough. Overall, the shop was perfect for enjoying sweets and taking a relaxing break. I would rate it 4 out of 5 points.

Takeout! The interior of the restaurant is very stylish with a mix of traditional and modern Japanese elements. The sweets based on Uji matcha are incredibly rich and delicious! You can really feel the Kyoto vibes. "Sagano Ro" for ¥1,045 is a rare cheesecake with a mochi ball made of mugwort and yuzu inside. It's a unique type of dessert that you won't regret trying! Delicious!

Tonight, my wife and I had dinner in Kyoto. On the way to the restaurant, we passed by Jubanseru Gion, famous for its Gion fondue. Last time we visited this place was with a couple of old classmates from Tokyo, during a meal in Gion where we came looking for souvenirs. The location is a bit hard to find, situated in the southeast part of Yasaka Shrine, and the entrance is somewhat inconspicuous, next to another shop. I always decide to get the "Taketori Monogatari" from Jubanseru as a special gift for important guests. I first learned about this souvenir during an event at Hotel Nikko Princess Kyoto, where a friend recommended it to me. The "Taketori Monogatari" is a delicacy wrapped in bamboo skin, with a moist and well-seasoned dough filled with large, elegant chestnuts and black beans. It is meticulously made, with a rich and exquisite taste. However, tonight we were drawn to a new chocolate product. My wife was eyeing a new chocolate product, saying, "This looks good. It's called 'Chocolat Kokon.'" Surprisingly, she said the exact same thing as last time. Despite coming to buy souvenirs for our guests, we ended up buying a souvenir for ourselves again. The "Chocolat Kokon" is a rich chocolate treat filled with the fragrant yuzu from the yuzu village near Hōzu Gorge in Kyoto, as well as large chestnuts from Kumamoto and glossy black beans from Hokkaido. The carefully selected ingredients are enclosed in a moist and flavorful chocolate dough, creating a delicious combination of flavors. Enjoy this indulgent treat during a relaxing homestay. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I wanted to eat some sweets in Kyoto, so I did some research and found a popular dessert shop near Yasaka Shrine called Jouvancel Kyoto Confectionery. The shop was crowded, but I waited a bit and noticed there were quite a few male customers today. I decided to try their most popular item, the matcha fondue. It came in two tiers with various sweets like warabi mochi and baked goods to dip in the matcha chocolate. It wasn't too sweet, and the rich matcha flavor paired well with the fruits. It was fun to choose what to eat next. The other cakes were also delicious. I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal!
