Arriving 10 minutes before the café opened at noon, there was already a line of about 15 people outside. Unfortunately, my favorite cut Baumkuchen was sold out before I could even line up. However, this time, I was here for the summer limited edition specialty, the Mocha Soft Serve! To my surprise, everyone in line ordered the Mocha Soft Serve too. The soft serve had a creamy coffee flavor that started to melt as soon as it was served. The perfect balance of coffee bitterness, milk sweetness, and just the right amount of sugar made it delightful. Cooling my mouth with the pointed cone, I also enjoyed the delicious coffee jelly hidden beneath the soft serve.

This is a well-known Western confectionery shop located near Gakugeidaigaku Station. I finally had the chance to visit. Unfortunately, the popular summer limited edition Mocha Soft is already sold out for this season (tears). Today, I ordered the Damier cake with buttercream for ¥350 and an iced coffee for ¥550. Even though it was my first time trying it, the taste felt nostalgic, like I haven't had a cake with a rich sweetness in a long time. I think it goes well with coffee. I will definitely come back for revenge next summer. Thank you for the meal.

Visited at 12:15 on Saturday, September 16, 2023. The eat-in space was about 90% full, but we were able to be seated immediately as there were a few seats available. Since it was still lunchtime, there were no sold-out items of fresh sweets. In the eat-in space, besides the eat-in exclusive parfait, you can also enjoy the fresh sweets sold in the store. I tried the signature fresh sweet, the Damier (350 yen), and an iced coffee (550 yen). The cream was buttercream, and it had a light finish that was easy to enjoy. While it didn't quite reach a special excitement, considering the quality at this price, I felt that I would definitely visit regularly if I were a local. I left before 1:00, and at that time, there were about three groups waiting for seats in the eat-in area. It doesn't have a luxurious atmosphere, but it has a cozy feel as a patisserie rooted in the local community, making it a very comfortable place to dine.

At Matterhorn, located near Gakugeidaigaku Station, you can enjoy traditional buttercream cakes. Today, I tried the following:
- Damier: A representative dish of Matterhorn that has been growing over time since its establishment. The buttercream has a nostalgic flavor.
- Shortcake: A large-sized triangular shortcake. The rich fresh cream has a nostalgic taste.

A reliable restaurant I've been going to for ages! All the cakes are delicious, but this time I tried the pudding a la mode in-store! Since the in-store pudding was sold out, I got one from the showcase! The rich pudding paired perfectly with the fruits! Even on weekdays, there may be lines for dining in!

Delicious and great value for money! I happened to pass by the restaurant and saw a line of about 15 people outside. After looking it up, I found out it's a popular shop, so I decided to stop by. They have a wide variety of baked goods at affordable prices. I was surprised by the 90 yen coconut sablé cookie - it had a gentle flavor. The large leaf pie costs 150 yen and tastes incredibly delicious! My favorite is the cookie with powdered sugar called "Citroisel." It's so delicious! The illustration of the woman on the packaging is cute, making it a great choice for gifts. The staff were friendly and provided excellent service. I didn't buy any cakes this time, but since they offer eat-in options, I'd like to try that next time. It was my first visit, but it was such a delicious and wonderful shop that I will definitely come back again.

Cakes and baked goods are reasonably priced. It was a shame that the Baumkuchen I was looking for was sold out around 3 p.m. on weekends. I purchased several baked goods such as coconut sablé and cinnamon leaf, and all of them had a good buttery aroma without any misses. The retro packaging is cute, and they also have a good shelf life, making them great for gifts. You can also enjoy them in the café and have the cakes eat-in. In terms of taste, they are worth the price. The staff's uniforms are also cute, and there is a priceless feeling of experiencing the good old days since the store was established in 1952. I definitely want to come back for the baked goods.

The restaurant is located in front of the Gakugeidaigaku Station and there is a parking lot next to the shop. The interior is non-smoking. It may be common nowadays, but I love shops that are strictly non-smoking for people who don't smoke. Although it's a cake shop, today's specialty is the Melon Frappe. It's not like shaved ice when they say frappe, but more like a juice. It consists of layers of juice, cream, and ice. Is it more like a Melon Juice Float? The juice and ice have a refreshing taste and the aftertaste is excellent. There are many 100-yen shops in this area. It's a highly competitive area with many 100-yen shops.

There is always a long line here. Especially on weekends, there is a line even before 9 o'clock, making it difficult to buy locally. I saw the round-shaped one after a long time and felt like I had to buy it, but the price had gone up from 2000 yen to 2200 yen. The Baumkuchen is cut and individually wrapped for 350 yen each? It's also challenging to buy! It's a good idea to get them for friends as they can put each one in a separate bag, making it a nice snack to share. You should go at opening time or else you might not be able to buy them in the afternoon. Making a reservation is a sure way to get them, though. The round-shaped Baumkuchen I had after a long time was so fluffy and had an irresistible aroma. I thought I wouldn't be able to finish it all, but cutting it into four pieces and then slicing it a bit thinner to eat was enjoyable. I like peeling off the layers of Baumkuchen as I eat it! We finished it all in one day at home. Making a reservation allows you to buy without waiting in line, so it's less of a hassle. If you come across it again, I recommend buying it.

Established in 1952, this Western confectionery shop near Gakugeidaigaku Station on the Tokyu Toyoko Line was selected for the first time this year as one of the top 100 sweets shops. I arrived at 2:30 p.m. I was looking forward to having a parfait, but they were sold out of everything except for the chocolate parfait, so I decided to enjoy a petit gateau in the café space. ⚫︎ Damier (350 yen) ☆3.3 Coated in chocolate, this treat features buttercream, sponge cake, and cocoa sponge. It has a gentle and comforting flavor. It tastes like Lotte's chocolate pie but slightly richer with butter. It's simply delicious. Perhaps it's based on Viennese pastries? ⚫︎ Savarin (400 yen) ☆3.5 Yes! Yes! The rum flavor is quite pronounced! You can sense the aroma of the barrel and the deep fermented taste. The fruit juice blends with the rum beautifully, and the syrup is quite tasty. The brioche dough may seem cheap, but I personally like this savarin. I had high hopes for the sweets from this top 100 selection shop, but I was a bit disappointed. The café space is cozy, so it's nice to relax and enjoy some delicious sweets.

Just a minute away from Gakugeidaigaku Station, right along the train tracks. There are guide lines at the entrance for those making purchases, but it might be a bit confusing for those dining in. There is a sign-in counter for avoiding lines, but we were able to walk in without signing in today (Saturday afternoon). The place gradually filled up, with almost all tables occupied by just before 1 PM. If you plan to stay for a while, be prepared for a potential overflow. You can also order cakes from the showcase at the storefront. The limited-time Mocha Soft serve is ending at the end of August. Today's order: Matcha Parfait for 800 yen. The traditional atmosphere and service are charming. The polite language and manners are a rare find in other establishments. The parfait arrived promptly. It looks very colorful! The portion size is just right, not overly excessive with the service. The cream is rich, pairing well with the matcha. Enjoyed the contrast and finished it all. Thank you for the meal.

You can buy to-go items quickly! But you may have to wait for a table at the cafe. When I passed by around 12:30, there were about 10 groups waiting in line, but when I passed by after 1:00, there were only about 3 groups, so I decided to wait. I waited for about 20 minutes, and it was a bit tough in the heat. Once inside, they explain the menu, but items like Mocha Soft Serve, limited-time parfait, and pudding were sold out. I had the chocolate parfait, which was delicious, but I wish they would display items that are sold out while you're waiting in line.

I tried the famous bakery's pastries for the first time. It's an assortment that can also be purchased online. Cookies, leaf pies, sablé, and a crispy Mandelbaretta filled with sliced almonds... All the pastries were delicious. The dough has a simple and gentle flavor. It feels homemade and heartwarming. Perhaps it's because they have stuck to a single-store policy since their establishment in 1952 that they are able to create such meticulous pastries. You can feel it in the taste. By the way, the wrapping paper is said to be designed by the artist Shintaro Suzuki. I look forward to the day when I can enjoy their fresh pastries in the store!

I had some business to attend to along the Toyoko Line, which is rare for me. I stopped by the Gakugeidaigaku Station to buy souvenirs. Although there were tempting cakes, I had to pass due to time constraints. Instead, I got a set of baked goods. They were free of any additives, which is not something you come across often for takeout items. It's recommended to store them in the fridge and take them out a little before eating. They have a simple, honest taste that sets them apart from well-known bakeries. While there are no surprises, they are incredibly delicious. You can easily have 3 or 4 pieces. It was a good purchase. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant aiming for the Mocha Soft Serve starting from 12 o'clock. I heard it's popular so I arrived at 11:30 and I think I was around 15th in line. Even though it was a weekday...! The eat-in space is quite spacious, so right after 12 o'clock, I was seated for the first round. The Mocha Soft Serve arrived about 5-10 minutes after ordering. The soft serve ice cream was subtly sweet and very rich, and the coffee jelly at the bottom wasn't too bitter, so even as a sweet tooth, I enjoyed it very much! The cone was thick and crispy. I ate it while dipping it in the soft serve. The staff were kind and attentive even though they were busy, making it a very pleasant atmosphere. By 1 o'clock on that day, the Mocha Soft Serve was sold out. The baked goods I bought as souvenirs were also delicious with a simple taste. Next time, I plan to go to try the parfait. Thank you for the meal.

I bought a "Baumkuchen." When I visited the shop, I happened to come across a new item displayed at the storefront and was able to purchase it. It was a Baumkuchen being sold in a shape I had never seen before!! The thinly sliced Baumkuchen had a chewy texture, and it was moist with zero dryness. The sweetness was gentle, and perhaps due to its moistness, even though it was thin, I felt a very satisfying and fulfilling eating experience.

2023 Sweets TOKYO Top 100 Stores. Visited on Sunday around 15:40. The restaurant was bustling with families. The Baumkuchen, a popular item, was already sold out. Nevertheless, there were many delicious-looking cakes to choose from! Selected cakes of interest. ・Shortcake 400 yen ・Damier 350 yen ・Savarin 400 yen Total 1,150 yen. Ate them at home with my family. ・Shortcake: "A classic shortcake made with domestically grown strawberries, offering stable quality year-round (from the description)." Fluffy cake and cream with just the right amount of sweetness. Tastes like a traditional cake and is delicious. ・Damier: "A signature item that has continued to grow with time since our establishment (from the description)." Surprisingly light due to the buttercream. This is definitely a popular cake. ・Savarin: "A historic item made with barrel-aged rum (from the description)." You can taste the rum while enjoying the sweetness of the syrup, which helps to mellow out the strong alcohol flavor. It also has plenty of whipped cream. I thought this was also a hidden gem on the menu. All of them were around 350-400 yen and incredibly affordable! And they were delicious! Thank you for the meal.

Visited around 15:00 on the weekend. I went to try the summer limited edition Mocha Soft serve, but it was a failure. In the back of the shop, there was a big sign saying "Sold Out"… Huh? Is it that popular?? I asked the staff and they said that even though they open at 12:00, they sell out by 13:00, and on weekdays, customers start lining up around 11:30. It's a long-established, modest snack shop, Matterhorn. I've often received their baked goods such as baumkuchen, so it's a familiar place, but I was surprised by the popularity of the Mocha Soft serve. By the way, there were 2 groups waiting to dine in at this time. I'm not particularly drawn to cakes, so I decided to buy some familiar baked goods. Madeleines and financiers need to be refrigerated. I have a good feeling about this! ★ Citroizel 150 yen A white square thing. It's "Citroizel", not "Stroizel". Are you from Edo? (laughs). This one was a hit! It's a two-layered cookie, with a crumbly Citroizel on top and a firm cookie on the bottom. The almond powder makes it a delicious cookie, even better than their famous baumkuchen!! ★ Madeleine 130 yen Needs to be refrigerated! Only lasts for 4 days! This had a simple and earnest taste, and was delicious. This one is also recommended! ★ Financier 160 yen Needs to be refrigerated! Only lasts for 4 days! Since it needs to be refrigerated, it's moist and juicy ♡ When I peeked at the gift section, I found out that the popular baumkuchen is shipped 4 days later. I often receive it as a gift, but I just found out it's that popular.

Located about a 3-minute walk from Gakugeidaigaku Station, this shop is a long-established cake shop that has been around since 1952. It was my first visit in a long time. The "Damier" cake is a representative item featuring the Matterhorn, which has been around since the founding of the shop. It is so famous that you can tell which cake it is just by its visual appearance. It has a simple composition of buttercream and chocolate, but it wasn't really to my liking. The chiffon cake didn't have much Earl Grey flavor and left a quite sweet impression. It seems like something children would enjoy. It's a place where you can enjoy old-fashioned cakes. I would like to revisit if I have the chance.

Located a 3-minute walk from Gakugeidaigaku Station is Matterhorn. Tabelog Rating: 3.73 stars as of August 24, 2023. Revisited in August 2023. Established in 1952, this long-standing patisserie is famous for its Baumkuchen, Mocha Soft Serve, and the iconic Damier that sparks fierce competition. It had been so long since my last visit, I couldn't even remember how many years it had been. Damier (350 yen) is a specialty here. The price of 350 yen is quite remarkable. Compared to recent popular shops, it feels like half the price. A classic cake made with buttercream and chocolate. The sponge cakes are arranged in a checkerboard pattern with regular sponge and chocolate sponge, coated with buttercream and chocolate. The buttercream has a nicely balanced salty flavor, ensuring its consistent deliciousness. However, the sponge cakes are a bit dry. Hmm... It's a popular item, but maybe it's just not my cup of tea. Rating: 3.3. Shortcake (400 yen) is a must-try classic item. It's quite a large shortcake. The whipped cream has a simple flavor. The sponge cake is on the drier side, and the strawberries, though it may be due to the season, are a bit sour. A traditional shortcake. Rating: 3.1. I've never quite understood the greatness of this place, even after accumulating experience over the years. Hopefully, after another 10 years, I'll finally get it. Congratulations on being selected as one of the top 100 shops!
