The Zenkai desserts come in two bowls each, with chestnuts and mochi inside. The "Hiyashi Zenkai" was a first for me, and its sweetness was light and refreshing, perfect for cooling down. The Danjyo Daioh beans were cooked to perfection, with a soft texture and each bean having a distinct bite. The salted kelp was a nice palate cleanser, enhancing the deliciousness of the Zenkai desserts. The Uji Kanji shaved ice had a gentle sweetness from the Uji matcha milk, with large red beans on top and inside. Even as it melted, the flavor remained rich, like enjoying a Uji matcha drink. The chewy shiratama was also delicious. They offer Zenkai as a souvenir, and the mini strap of the "Fuzoku Zenkai" is adorable. On the second day in Osaka, after drinking too much while watching baseball at Kyocera Dome the day before, I searched for something light to eat since I skipped breakfast. I remembered this place and realized I had never been to Hozenji Yokocho. The shop is located right next to Hozenji, known for its moss-covered Mizukake Fudo. A black and white spotted cat was moving back and forth in front of the shop. I entered the shop a little before 11 am. I was surprised to find it not crowded, with only one other group of customers. I sat at a table for four near the entrance and ordered the "Fuyuzenzai" for 815 yen. The shaved ice ordered by the previous customers arrived first, looking delicious and generously portioned. After a while, my order was served. The tray came with two bowls and small plates. The bowls contained Zenzai with Shiratama, and both bowls looked the same. It seemed like they were named "Fuyuzenzai" because they were meant to be shared between a couple. The Zenzai was warm with a perfect consistency and sweetness. The Shiratama was smooth. About halfway through the first bowl, I refreshed my palate with some salted kelp. Eating one bowl made me want more, so I was happy to have another one. I enjoyed it very much. Outside the shop, foreign tourists were playing with the cat. I wondered what its name was. After paying in cash and receiving my change of 5 yen, I placed it on the tray held by the O-kame figure under the counter. The staff said, "If fate allows, please come again," and I felt the warmth of their hospitality. This place is perfect for a quick stop to recharge when you're tired from walking around the shopping street.

I arrived at 12:30 pm craving shaved ice. There was only one other group of customers inside, so I was able to easily find a seat. The walls were filled with signatures of famous people. This shop is a must-visit in Osaka, always featured in guidebooks. I decided to go with the classic Zenzai, opting for the chestnut flavor at 917 yen. It was incredibly delicious! The red bean paste here is exceptional, so tasty! And the salted kelp was also delicious. They serve the shaved ice in two bowls, which is said to bring harmony to couples and prosperity to businesses, a famous tradition in Osaka. Each person must order one dish, so sharing is allowed but ordering one portion for two people is not allowed. I also had to try the Milk Shaved Ice at 815 yen. The texture was crunchy but the chewy white mochi and milk were incredibly delicious! The Tanba Dainagon red beans were so tasty! The portion was just right, not too much. I was so happy to finally visit Zenzaiya. It's amazing how the red beans can make shaved ice taste so delicious. The Milk Shaved Ice was absolutely delicious. This narrow alley is lined with various restaurants and bars, from high-end traditional Japanese cuisine to okonomiyaki shops. Before exploring the alley, we visited the "Mizukake Fudo-son" statue of the Fudo Myoo deity to make a wish by splashing water on it. The statue is covered in green moss from all the water splashed on it by visitors. We then strolled through the alley, passing under the signboard painted by Kanami Fujiyama. Afterwards, we visited Meoto Zenzai, a famous shop known for serving two bowls of Zenzai (sweet red bean soup with rice cake) in one serving, symbolizing marital harmony and prosperity. The shop has a long history dating back to 1883, and it gained fame from being featured in the movie "Meoto Zenzai". We ordered two servings of Meoto Zenzai (cold) and enjoyed the refreshing and delicious dessert. This was my first time trying the cold version of Zenzai, and I found it to be a delightful and light treat on a hot day. Overall, it was a great experience tasting this traditional sweet in Osaka.

I didn't know about the presence of the Water Pouring Jizo statue as I visited this shop, but I learned about it when I saw people praying there, realizing it was a power spot. After leaving the shop, I prayed at the statue and then stopped by Glico, which was nearby, before heading home.

Today, I tried the following menu items: - Fufu Zenzai: Two bowls of Zenzai were served, each containing a round, chewy Shiratama (rice flour dumpling) in the center. It is made with Tanba Adzuki beans and has a mildly sweet taste with a pleasant texture that allows you to enjoy the flavor of the beans. - Uji Matcha Ice Zenzai: This dessert had a rich matcha flavor and a fluffy texture that melted smoothly in the mouth. It comes with Uji sweet red bean paste and Shiratama. The warm tea was delightful. When I ate the Zenzai ice cream, it was so cold that I felt chilly.

My husband and I visited Zenzai, a stop in the Osaka Metro stamp rally. The Zenzai we had was not too sweet and delicious. They also sold retort Zenzai as a souvenir, and many tourists visiting Osaka were buying it. The atmosphere inside the store was calm and not too crowded, which was nice.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was calm and very pleasant. The Zenkai was not too sweet and delicious. I found the kelp a bit salty for my taste, but I thought it went well with the tea and Zenkai. We were two people, so maybe we should have ordered one hot and one cold dish and exchanged them, haha.

The menu has only three items. Hot Fuufuzenkai, Ice Fuufuzenkai, and Fuufuzenkai with chestnuts. I don't like hot food, so I chose the Ice Fuufuzenkai. The Shiratama was incredibly chewy! It was the chewiest Shiratama I've ever had.

I passed by Hoshinji Yokocho, and I visited about 10 years ago. The lightly sweetened red bean soup with large red bean grains and chewy white dumplings is very delicious. Inside, there are lots of movie and novel materials, as well as autographs from famous people on the walls, creating a great atmosphere. On this day, we ordered the Zenzai set for couples. The gentle and delicious taste was perfect for our tired bodies, and my friend who was visiting for the first time was delighted with the food. The Dotonbori area was crowded like rush hour on this day, and it was great to see people coming back out again.

I visited the dessert shop after lunch at the Osaka Delicious Food Rally. First, I visited the Fudo-san shrine. I had a couple's Zenkai and two beautiful bowls of ozenzai. I forgot to get the stamp from the Osaka Delicious Food Rally first, so I ended up paying. They gave me a ¥100-off ticket that I can use until June 30, 2023. I'll come back next time to have shaved ice!

How about some sweets? Let me introduce you to "Fufu Zenzai" located in Honzenji Yokocho. The guidebook also mentioned this place. The charming store is right in front of Honzenji and Mizukake Fudo. As it was a weekday, there were no other customers. The small interior is adorned with movie posters and historic photos from the Showa era. The menu consists of only three items: Fufu Zenzai, Hiyashi Zenzai, and Kurumiiri Zenzai, each served in two small bowls per portion. I chose the Kurumiiri Zenzai as I like chestnuts. It made me wonder when was the last time I had Zenzai or Shiruko, let alone ordering and eating it at a store. When it arrived, I was presented with two small bowls of Kurumiiri Zenzai. The slightly sweet taste was not overpowering, and it went down smoothly. The chestnuts and shiratama were nice accents, and I enjoyed it. Perhaps it was thanks to Mizukake Fudo, but I felt a really good vibe in this area. I would like to visit this place again. Thank you for the meal.
