This place is known as one of the "Tokyo's top three karinto" snacks. In addition to the plain amber type, they also offer various flavored options. Perhaps due to the upcoming New Year, the packaging is designed like a kimono. The "Mayuzumi Tsumugi, ¥648" is a black sesame flavored karinto. The texture is crispy, coated with black sesame flavored syrup. It's not sticky or greasy. At first, it seems quite mildly sweet, but as you chew, the sweetness melts from the hardened syrup, combined with the sweetness of the fried oil in the dough, creating a satisfying sweetness. Once you start, you can't stop eating due to the crunchy and satisfying texture. Overall, it's as good as Kappa Ebisen snacks. There are also thin karinto coated with soybean flour, which I'm sure are delicious too.

I visited "Karintou Yushima Kagetsu" in Yushima. It was about a 4-minute walk from Ueno-hirokoji Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line. We arrived around 2 p.m. on a weekend and didn't have to wait in line, so we were able to enter immediately. The restaurant has a traditional and dignified atmosphere. This time, we ordered takeout! Karintou ¥594. The outside is said to be fried three times, making it crispy and well-fried inside. The syrup is subtly sweet and elegant. Despite being fried quite well, it is not greasy, and the light sweetness makes it enjoyable. The packaging has a design full of Japanese charm that would be appreciated as a gift by overseas visitors or elderly people. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious! Thank you very much.

I visited this restaurant near Yushima, which was also one of the three major karinto shops in Tokyo that I had been wanting to visit. The interior of the shop is small, but the turnover is fast so there was no problem. There was hardly any line on this Saturday evening. This time, I purchased the regular karinto. As for the taste, the honey on the outside is simple yet refined. It is crispy when you bite into it, but it is dense so you can feel its heaviness. It was a very delicious karinto, and it seems like it would be appreciated as a souvenir. Thank you for the meal.

I tried the karintou for 594 yen. It was crispy, not greasy, with a natural sweetness. It's similar to the karintou from Tachibana in Ginza. Both are different from the ones you buy at supermarkets. I like those too, but this one is also very delicious.

[Visit on September 20, 2023] From Ueno-Okachimachi Station North Exit, head towards Yushima on Kasuga Street. Cross Chuo Street and turn left at the next signal intersection towards Akihabara. The shop appears on the left-hand side. It's a very narrow takeout shop. I finished work early that day and headed to a Japanese sweets shop I was curious about, but one of the two items I wanted was already sold out. Nonetheless, I decided to stop by this shop. I arrived around 5:30 pm on a weekday, about 10 minutes earlier. Inside the narrow shop, the showcase displayed beautifully arranged karinto and senbei. I decided to buy a bag of karinto, as the shop's name suggested. The shelf life was about 20 days. When I got home, I opened it right away. One thing to note is that this product doesn't use oxygen absorbers to preserve the flavor, so it's best to eat it quickly. The unique feature of this karinto is its light and crispy texture without greasiness. The surface is coated with caramelized sugar to maintain its firm texture. Despite being coated, the lightness of the dough, which is said to be fried three times, is emphasized in terms of texture. Only the coating is sweet, so there's no overwhelming sweetness lingering in the mouth. Perhaps the calculations were made to maintain this texture, as the thickness and size feel just right. I thought it would be delicious for adults. The packaging is cute and shows attention to detail, the price is reasonable, making it a thoughtful and appreciated Japanese confectionery gift. Thank you for the meal.

Visited after 4:00 PM on a weekday. This was a restaurant I checked out because it had high ratings on Tabelog. Couldn't get into the top 100 sweets shops in Tokyo, but managed to get into the top 100 traditional Japanese sweets shops. Probably my first time trying it, so I went with the standard "Karin-to" (crunchy sweet snack) as it was labeled as their signature product. They provided a paper bag and small individual plastic bags, which was thoughtful and convenient for souvenirs. The packaging, resembling a kimono, seemed like a good choice for foreigners looking for souvenirs! The back had a band-like design with the shop's description inside. The "Karin-to" cost 594 yen. The surface was smooth without any rough bumps, and the outer layer of sugar was thick and firm. The inside was dense and solid. I prefer a lighter "Karin-to," but the flavor was actually quite light.

I arrived at the restaurant around a little before 12:00 PM on Thursday. The interior was designed for only one customer. I went inside and purchased kariynto for takeout for 594 yen before heading home to eat it later. It was different from the famous shops in Asakusa, but the thick and sweet kariynto was perfect for a snack and made me feel great. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely go again!

Wagashi and Amami-dokoro Tokyo Top 100 Stores 2023, visited at 4:15 PM on Thursday with no other customers present. Although it was mentioned that only one person could enter at a time, since there were no other customers, I entered directly. I purchased the recommended karintou placed on top of the case. The total bill was 594 yen including tax, and I was able to pay using PayPay. When I tried it, I was surprised that the inside was not fried in oil, but the surrounding honey was delicious.

I went to Ueno and took a short walk to Karyudo Yushima Kagetsu. It is a long-established specialty store for karinto. They sell karinto in various shapes and flavors. I bought the classic karinto. Inside the stylish packaging, there were karinto in a traditional shape. It is a delicious karinto with a crispy texture and the aroma of black sugar. Although it is fried in oil, the aftertaste is light. It is very easy to eat karinto. I would like to try other karinto next time.

I discovered this shop while looking for souvenirs near Ueno. The shop is small, and only one group can enter at a time. There was a constant flow of customers - as one group left, the next entered. There might be lines at times. The bags with kimono patterns and stylish obi decorations make great souvenirs in appearance alone. The karinto here is made very carefully and is incredibly delicious! This time, I bought the standard karinto and the "ama" karinto coated in soybean flour. The standard one allows you to taste the true deliciousness of karinto, while the "ama" has a perfect balance of sweetness from the soybean flour, making it irresistibly tasty. I'm thinking of coming back to buy some as souvenirs for my gourmet friends next time.

Established in 1947, this long-standing karintou shop has been in business from the post-war era to the Reiwa period. I tried their karintou snack (¥594) and it was delicious. The packaging is very cute, making it a great choice for a small gift.

The entrance is just one room. It's a small shop where only one person can fit in. The black sugar karinto I usually eat had a different deliciousness. ■ Order details ◯ Karinto Tanugi 594 yen Karinto made with white sugar. It seems to be fried three times in oil at different temperatures. It was the best-selling item. The crispy texture on the outside and the crunchy texture on the inside are really nice. It's delicious with an elegant taste that's not too sweet. ◯ Karinto Mayuzumi Tanugi 648 yen Karinto made with black sesame. It uses sesame paste instead of the usual sesame for karinto. The taste is indeed different from karinto made by sprinkling sesame on the outside. It's also crispy and fragrant. ■ Miscellaneous It's said that the shop started from a small dagashiya in the Showa 20s. The packaging has a cute pattern resembling a kimono. It's good for a small souvenir. It might be a bit pricey for everyday use.

I visited Karintou Yushima Kagetsu on my way from Yushima to Ueno-Hirokoji Station. I originally came for the shaved ice on this day, but along the way, I discovered this famous shop and bought some Kabuki-age. It tasted just as good as always, so there's nothing special to mention, but it was reliably delicious. Thank you for the meal!

It's a karintou shop in Yushima. The original karintou and the mini size ones have almost the same taste, but the texture changes slightly based on their shape. The black sesame karintou is delicious, not too sweet, and it maintains the traditional karintou flavor while bringing out the aroma.

I visited during the Bon holidays and ended up eating slowly because the snacks last long...(^^; Originally, it seems to have been a dagashiya (traditional Japanese candy store) based on the store profile, so the interior is small. Since there were many types, I studied in advance on the website. The two older sisters who helped us were very kind ( ˊᵕˋ ) *Karintou* *Kohaku* *Sazareume* "Karintou" and "Kohaku" are almost the same in taste, with a refreshing sweetness that goes well with green tea or black tea, only the shapes are different. "Sazareume" is a fried snack with a salty and slightly sweet-sour plum flavor. The kimono packaging is very cute and the idea is good too! I feel like giving it as a gift. It would be greatly appreciated as a souvenir for people from overseas. If the opportunity arises, I would like to make use of it. 2023 Hyakumeiten.

I visited "Karintou Yushima Kagetsu" for the first time for lunch on the weekend. The exterior and atmosphere were as shown in the photos, creating a nice ambiance. There was one customer ahead of me, so I waited outside. Inside the restaurant, I hesitated a bit, but as shown in the photos, I placed an order for takeout. I ordered 2 pieces of Karintou for 594 yen each, totaling 1,188 yen (tax included), and 1 piece of Mayuzumi for 648 yen (tax included), bringing the total to 1,836 yen. The taste was different from what I expected, but children might enjoy it. Thank you for the meal.

Yushima Kagetsu is a well-established shop for Kiarukarin-to✨✨ Located just 2-3 minutes from Ueno-Hirokoji Station. You can also reach it in about 5 minutes from JR Okachimachi Station. I had bought it at a department store event before and had been wanting to visit. It comes in a cute package, and the most popular classic kiarun-to✨✨ has a shiny amber color✨ Surprisingly crispy and the sweetness makes you feel gentle, but you can't stop eating (*´艸`) It was just as good as I imagined when I ate it before! I also bought another one called Mayuzumi, which is a black sesame kiarun-to. It looks like brown sugar, but it's exactly black sesame✨ Rich and fragrant taste~✨✨ Crispy, but also moist from the sugar, making your mouth happy. When I had it with cold green tea at home, it healed the fatigue from the intense heat✨✨ It was delicious~✨✨❣️ Stylish and reasonably priced (around ¥600), I think it's also great as a souvenir ( ˶>ᴗ<˶)

This is a small karinto shop that has been around for over 70 years in Yushima. It is located a little off Kasuga-dori near Yushima Station. In addition to their signature karinto, they also offer items such as age-arare and age-senbei, a total of 8 types of snacks. Along with Asakusa's "Kosakura" and Ginza's "Tachibana," it is said to be one of Tokyo's three major karinto shops. The karinto (594 yen) has a crispy exterior and a unique crunchy texture inside. It is meticulously made by craftsmen, with fine dough making and triple frying in oil at different temperatures. The Mayuzumi (648 yen) is a black sesame karinto. It is made using plenty of black sesame paste, and when you take a bite, the soft and gentle aroma of black sesame spreads throughout your mouth along with a firm texture. Both the karinto and Mayuzumi purchased this time were elegant and very delicious. Next time, I would like to try the age-arare and senbei as well. Thank you for the meal.

I bought it as a snack for a walk. There are various types of karintou, but there are also Amajoppai arare, so you will end up buying both. The packaging with a Japanese pattern is designed like a kimono, which foreigners also appreciate.

【2023 Wagashi and Amazake Hyakumeiten】"Yushimakagetsu," "Kosakura," and "Tachibana" are long-established shops counted among the "Tokyo Big Three Karinto." Yushimakagetsu opened a small dagashi shop in Yushima, Tokyo in 1947. It wasn't long before their "karinto" became popular. Canned "karinto" started being used as souvenirs in ryotei restaurants in Yushima and gradually became known, leading to the establishment of a karinto shop. Over 70 years have passed since then, but they continue to protect the unchanged taste in the same old location, in the same old small shop, as a nostalgic shop full of the warmth of old downtown.【Karinto Tanmono (single piece)】¥594. The karinto, the flagship product since its founding, has a glossy and beautiful amber color like glass, which is a characteristic of Yushimakagetsu's karinto. The unique crispy exterior and crunchy interior texture are achieved through meticulous work by craftsmen, such as fine fabric making and triple frying in oil at different temperatures. Bon appétit!
