Just a 3-minute walk from JR Shibuya Station, "Sakai Shokai" is a cozy izakaya established in 2018. They offer a variety of delicious dishes using seasonal ingredients as the main focus, making it a great place to enjoy sake along with your meal in a hidden gem-like atmosphere. I made a reservation for the weekend. While they do offer set courses, this time we chose dishes a la carte based on our preferences and enjoyed both the food and sake. The dishes we ordered, such as grilled asparagus, three kinds of sashimi, seared mentaiko, eel and Kamo eggplant tempura, edamame with sansho pepper soy sauce, swordfish with salt and lemon, Kamo eggplant, and clay pot rice with corn, were all exquisite! They kindly divided the dishes according to our group size, showing excellent hospitality. The sashimi was delicious, and they provided soy sauce, salt, and roasted sake to enhance the flavors. This made the sake go down way too easily! Finally, we ordered the clay pot rice with corn as a closing dish, and even though we were quite full, it magically fit into our stomachs! Our companions were also surprised by the deliciousness. While the prices may be slightly higher compared to typical izakayas, given the cozy atmosphere near Shibuya Station and the high-quality dishes, it actually feels quite reasonable. Personally, I love this place. I will definitely visit again when drinking in Shibuya!

I tried making a reservation at Souwado in Ebisu, but they were fully booked. Then I tried calling Sakai Shokai, their affiliated restaurant, but they were also fully booked. On the day itself, I decided to call Sakai Shokai again on a whim, and they said they could accommodate us! Wow! It's a hidden gem in a multi-tenant building with an unexpectedly mature atmosphere, not typical of Shibuya. They serve seasonal Japanese cuisine with a focus on natural wines. Shibuya can be tricky when it comes to finding good food, right? I usually end up going to the area around Kamiyacho, but this place is just a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station. It's close to the station and offers dishes like yuba, seared mentaiko, assorted pickles, spring rolls with ayu and chestnuts, sashimi platter, three kinds of seasonal fish, saikyo-yaki black cod, grilled dumplings with black pork and shrimp, and Mitsu-se chicken karaage. A must-visit for a rural guy in his late 30s and a woman in Minato-ku! I made a reservation at Sakai Shokai during my Tokyo business trip. Opening the door in a mixed-use building, the incredible contrast already left me impressed. We ordered the chef's special course this time. It was so delicious... the dishes were brought out at the perfect pace, keeping us entertained. The ultimate winner was the corn rice that came at the end! It was packed with sweetness, making me want to eat it again. By the way, urban restaurants have bathrooms that smell too good... I want to live here. Overall, it was a restaurant that was not only enjoyable but also a learning experience!

A sophisticated adult bar one level above. They offer exquisitely arranged top-notch appetizers. Cloudsen ham cutlet, spring rolls with young ayu fish, edamame with sansho pepper soy sauce, pickled sardines, and conger eel tempura mixed rice. The selection of drinks is also fantastic. We ordered a la carte, but be careful as the prices are per person and the portions are served for the number of people ordered.

I searched for a hundred famous restaurants in Shibuya, and found Sakai Shokai. The dishes are beautifully presented and very delicious. Since I was drinking alcohol, I skipped the dessert. Instead, I added more dishes to accompany the alcohol. They offered a choice between omakase and a la carte on the day, so I chose omakase for the first time. Next time, I will try a la carte.

Here, I am using the invitation of the top 100 restaurants and using it for a short time. When you enter, there seem to be about 20 seats. It is a slightly high-end izakaya in Shibuya. We ordered "assorted sashimi," "Unzen ham cutlet," "fig mascarpone," and "chilled corn and sea urchin chawanmushi" with alcohol. The dishes were all elegant and delicately flavored. This time, I didn't have much time and could only eat a small amount, but next time I would like to visit for a main meal. Thank you for the feast!

We made a reservation for 5:00 PM and arrived at the restaurant. Since it was early on a weekday, there was only one other group besides us. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, and all the dishes were delicious. The only disappointment was that when we ordered the "managatsu oyuan-yaki," a different type of fish was served instead. I think they should have informed us about this when we placed the order. While we were eating and talking about whether it was managatsu or not, we were told that it was a different fish today. At that time, it tasted good so we didn't think much of it, but later it bothered me a bit. 😊

"Yesterday evening, I went to Sakai Shokai, a seafood izakaya in Shibuya! Located just a step away from the main street, this place is perfect for temporarily escaping the hustle and bustle of Shibuya. As soon as you enter the restaurant, a pleasant smell reminiscent of the sea greets you. Fresh sashimi, grilled fish, seafood bowls, and more – just looking at them will make you hungry. With seafood dishes as the main focus, every seafood item I ordered was incredibly fresh, surpassing my expectations in taste. Each dish was meticulously prepared, truly embodying the bounty of the sea. The staff's service was also very polite, providing detailed explanations for each dish and allowing me to order with confidence. The conversation flowed easily, and I was able to enjoy myself without noticing the time. Among all the seafood izakayas I've been to, Sakai Shokai felt the most comfortable. I definitely want to visit again."

Located in the same building as a famous yakiniku restaurant, the entrance staircase can be hard to find due to the long line at the yakiniku place. With no visible sign, the discreet mailbox simply reads "Sakai Shokai," giving off a hidden gem vibe. The restaurant serves dishes meant for sharing among the group, creating a relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere. The signature ham cutlet goes beyond expectations, exuding a sense of luxury and deliciousness that leaves you wanting more. We opted for the clay pot rice with white shrimp, fresh ginger, and bamboo shoots, which had a mature flavor profile. This is not your average izakaya fare; it's more akin to a refined Japanese cuisine experience. A truly delightful dining experience that we would love to revisit. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I had been checking out Sakai Shokai for a while, and luckily managed to make a reservation. It was my first time visiting Japan and I found the naming interesting, and the menu was also very tasteful. There were many options, so I left it up to them and asked for an omakase experience. I visited Sakai Shoten in Shibuya about 3 weeks ago after making a phone reservation. It was about a 7-minute walk away. It has been selected as one of the top 100 izakayas. Since there is no signboard, the location is a bit hard to find. You can order a la carte, but since it was my first time, I asked for the chef's choice. The atmosphere was nice, and I enjoyed delicious dishes at the counter. The ham cutlet was the best. Thank you for the meal.

This restaurant offers good value for the price. Even though I have been working in Shibuya for years, I didn't know such a restaurant existed, and now I feel like exploring more. The ingredients, dishes, and tableware at this restaurant were all satisfying. It's a popular place, and I heard they go to the mountains to gather wild vegetables to incorporate into their dishes. They truly enjoy cooking and making their customers happy, which was wonderful. The dining time is limited to 2 hours, which can feel rushed, but it's also a benefit as you can finish early. I will definitely go back again.

Shibuya's Japanese izakaya "Sakai Shokai" is a calm place with a counter where you can enjoy a variety of Japanese snacks made with Kyushu ingredients. I often visit the second branch in Ebisu called "Sowa-do," but this original store feels more authentic, and I often see the owner, Mr. Sakai, here. Recommended for those who love Kyushu ingredients or have a connection to the region, both Sowa-do and Sakai Shokai are favorites of mine. I wonder if they are thinking about opening a third store soon.

I went to Hyakumeiten restaurant!! The interior was very stylish and had a calm atmosphere perfect for a date! On this day, I recommend the sashimi, spring rolls, shumai, and meat dish. The clay pot rice takes a bit of time, so we ordered it early. Everything was fresh and delicious, I was impressed! The staff was friendly and easy to talk to, I want to go again!

About a 5-minute walk from Shibuya Station, when you go up the slope, you'll see the building where the restaurant is located. A good landmark is Horuichi on the 1st floor. When you step inside, a large counter catches your eye! The atmosphere is stylish! During my first visit, I mentioned that I only like certain foods, and felt that leaving it to the chef ("omakase") was a good choice. Everything I ate was delicious. It's a really great restaurant! The details you'll understand once you visit and taste it yourself! You won't regret it! Also, the original "monaka" is cute and delicious, so definitely give it a try! I recommend the "salt vanilla" flavor. The service is wonderful and you can trust them completely.
