Visited on a weekday just before noon after a long time, so I had a bit of time to spare and decided to stop by while on the move. I ordered the Matcha Parfait. The menu stated, "Please allow some time," but it was served after 7 minutes. The top layer had vanilla ice cream, which was not too sweet or rich, making it easy to eat. Below that, there was matcha ice cream, matcha cream, red bean paste, whipped cream, and flakes. Eating through the layers with changing textures was interesting. The overall balance of sweetness was just right. It was my first parfait in a while, and it was refreshing without being overly sweet. The perfect sweetness, quality ingredients, and how the flavors of the ingredients were brought out by Hosui-san were exquisite. A classic choice indeed.

Oh my goodness, this was amazing! I bought the Squeezed Beans Tanba Black Daishu (1 bag), Seasonal Josenka Otozure Seasonal Josenka Hatsugan Seasonal Josenka Yuyake 4 items, and they were all delicious with an elegant sweetness that I couldn't resist eating. I want to go buy more, use the restaurant, and even visit the main store of Hoseindo. Thank you very much!

Convenient souvenir with a sugar coating, crispy red bean inside is soft and enjoyable. Bought small sweets as heavy ones can be tiring. Have visited Takarai Sen-north store on Kitaoji Street many times. Convenient with parking. Located inside the Shinkansen station, making it easy to buy Kyoto souvenirs. There is also a tea house next to it. It's nice to take a break here and enjoy some sweets instead of rushing past the station.

If you want to spend a leisurely time while waiting for the Shinkansen, this is the place to be! The main store is a bit hard to get to, so in that sense, it's recommended. This shop, selected as one of the top 100 stores, offers both retail and eat-in options. On a weekday after 4 p.m., there were two groups of customers already there, and more customers kept coming in. Perhaps because of the location, everyone seemed to have their timing set for departure. It didn't get completely crowded, which was nice. [What I ate] Chilled white zenzai ¥1250 Matcha parfait ¥1570 The chilled white zenzai was refreshing and delicious!!! I definitely prefer it over regular zenzai. I recommend it even for those who don't like sweet things. On the other hand, the parfait had about 1/3 cornflakes... The taste matched well and was decently good, but I couldn't help but wonder why... Considering the image of a "Kyoto traditional sweets shop" and the prices, it felt a bit mismatched. However, the complimentary tea was also delicious, and being able to relax in the bustling Shinkansen ticket gate area was priceless. It's a shame that the operating hours are short and it's difficult to visit often! (As of September 2023, the cafe closes at 6 p.m.) When I have the chance to visit during their open hours before catching the Shinkansen, I would love to come back. Thank you for the meal!

Whenever I visit Kyoto, I always make sure to stop by here if time allows. I always intend to order seasonal items, but I can't resist the temptation of the crispy wafers, elegant sweet bean paste, and not-too-sweet cream... As I wait for the black soybean tea to steep, I am captivated by the beautiful purple color it turns into, and I find solace in the seasonal flowers on the table. The hanging scroll also looks different each season, always lovely. I enjoyed it deliciously this time as well.

Today, I bought souvenirs here. It's a shop located inside the JR Kyoto Station Shinkansen ticket gate. You can also eat inside the shop, but I didn't have time, so I got takeout. I enjoyed the Shibori Tanba Kurodaiju. Thank you for the meal.

The perfect way to end a day in Kyoto is at Hozen-san. I ordered the iced shiruko for 1000 yen, and it disappeared in an instant, haha. It's a summer treat that you'll want to enjoy again. It's like a cross between shaved ice and sweet red bean soup, delicious. The quality of the red bean paste is what makes it so good, without any strange aftertaste or excessive sweetness. I'll definitely be coming back for more in the future. Thank you for the wonderful meal! ^^

Although Hozen is famous for its warabi mochi, their squeezed beans are overwhelmingly delicious, so I highly recommend them. Squeezed beans are like slightly dried sweet black beans, very rich and gently sweet. It's a must-buy when you go to Kyoto, my favorite.

I visited the 【Hosen JR Shinkansen Kyoto Station Store】, located 0 seconds away from Kyoto Station! I came as part of the Obon Osaka-Kyoto Top 100 Stores Tour! Since I was planning to return by Shinkansen on the last day, I visited this Hosen store inside the Shinkansen ticket gate! It used to be a Sweets Top 100 Store until 2022, but it seems it has now been newly selected as a Japanese confectionery and sweets shop WEST Top 100 Store! (At the time of my visit, it was Sweets WEST! 😂) According to the staff, many people visit during the short one-hour before boarding the Shinkansen! Now, for what I ordered this time. ・Kamo Aoi and Cold Matcha for 1100 yen. Kamo Aoi is a Kyoto-style confection made with Tamba Dainagon azuki beans, featuring the pattern of the "Futaba Aoi" crest from the famous Shimogamo Shrine's Kyoto Sanjo Festival! The cold matcha had a fluffy foam and a great matcha aroma, and was very delicious. The combination of sweet black beans and Kamo Aoi was excellent! I had been wanting to drink matcha for a long time, so I am satisfied to have it at a Top 100 Store! The cost performance is quite good with two types of sweets and matcha as a set, providing a high level of satisfaction! When you visit Kyoto, be sure to stop by on your way back! Oh, you can also choose hot matcha! I hope to earn the badge at the Japanese confectionery and sweets shop WEST when I go back home at the end of the year! It was delicious!!

This is a café space attached to a traditional Japanese confectionery shop located inside the Shinkansen station. The iced matcha was very delicious. They also served complimentary beans. Each item is carefully made, so it may take a little time for the service, but I really liked the calm atmosphere of the store ♡

I stopped by during my Shinkansen waiting time. In the crowded Kyoto Station, it was a quiet and calming space like a different world. The cold matcha had fluffy foam and a nice aroma, and was very delicious. It paired perfectly with the sweet beans and sweets. I would like to visit again if I have the opportunity to go to Kyoto by Shinkansen.

I was eyeing it on the Shinkansen. Right after the ticket gate. Maybe because it was a weekday, I was the only one there. A family arrived later. I love monaka, so I got the monaka set. The monaka was crispy, and the sweet bean paste was quite sweet, with a strong flavor. It had a satisfying texture. I think it's fine without cream. The black soybean tea was brewed until it had a strong color, and you can eat the beans with a bit of salt. The tea had a reddish color, an amazing aroma, and a flavor I really liked. The beans were also well-seasoned and tasty! I think it's fine without salt. I want to always have it as a snack.

Sweets West, a renowned Japanese-style sweets shop. Located right by the Shinkansen ticket gates at the station, making it convenient for a quick stop during your visit to Kyoto. The traditional Japanese atmosphere of the place was surprisingly empty on a weekday. I ordered the chilled zenzai for 1250 yen, which came with chilled roasted green tea as a treat. The refined taste of the small red beans in the zenzai was delightful. The Tamba Dainagon beans used in this dish had a superior flavor with a subtle sweetness. The second serving of chilled hojicha tea paired well with it. It was a pleasant experience. There's even a convenient Japanese-themed park nearby. Thank you for the delicious meal.

⭐️Located right after getting off the Shinkansen, this is an authentic dessert place and a selected shop for the Sweets WEST Top 100 in 2022 on Tabelog!⭐️The elegant atmosphere and sophistication of the sweets make you feel like you're in Kyoto! When you come here, it's a must to choose matcha over iced coffee. [Order Details] ● Kamo Aoi and Cold Matcha 1,100 yen A refined sweet with Tamba Adzuki beans, agar, and a slightly crispy texture. The balance is perfect with the not-too-sweet straight matcha. The squeezed bean Tamba Kurodaiju has good quality, relatively large grains, and a restrained sweetness that exudes sophistication. ● Cold White Zenzai 1,250 yen Not too sweet, with a refreshing finish and a chewy texture. While not overly sweet on its own, as zenzai, it offers a considerable umami overall. ● Kyoto Shigure 1,000 yen Summer limited edition Soft agar with a cool appearance, almost no sweetness, and adding flavor with red and white Azuki beans for balance. [Access] 8-3 Higashishio-koji Takakura-cho, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture Shinkansen JR Kyoto Station 2F ☎️075-693-9103 Starting right at Kyoto Station, you can feel the depth of confectionery and immediately switch into Kyoto sightseeing mode! Received from an acquaintance in Kyoto. There are 6 pieces in this noisy box. Specifically, 3 pieces of agar jelly + 3 pieces of adzuki beans to sprinkle on top. Once three people have eaten, it's all gone. And it's a sturdy box that takes effort to dispose of. My family kept saying "delicious." Personally, I thought it was a confectionery that I wouldn't buy myself. Could it be that the taste wasn't clear because the serving dish didn't match again this time? Thank you for the meal. My family's evaluation was excellent.

I was supposed to relax at home on this day, but unexpectedly ended up going to Kyoto multiple times. I lost my car keys the day before, and it turned out I dropped them on a Kyoto city bus, so I took the Shinkansen to retrieve them. I only had about an hour in Kyoto! Feeling tired, I decided to pick up the keys and head back home on the Shinkansen. The only thing I did besides picking up the keys was eating cold zenzai at this famous shop. The freshness was excellent. The atmosphere was nice. The sweetness was very natural and elegant. The azuki beans and shiratama were fresh and had a subtle sweetness. While Japan has a culture of eating water-based desserts like kuzukiri or shaved ice, it felt like I could enjoy such cultural experiences here. It was a shop where you could savor refined Japanese summer dessert culture, like a symbol of Japanese tradition. I didn't particularly like the beans I bought as a souvenir the day before, but the shiratama zenzai I had on the day I went to retrieve my forgotten item was very delicious.

Selected as one of the top 100 shops for Tamba black soybean squeezed beans, Takarai Doh offers delicious treats. Although I wanted to try their sweet red bean soup, I wasn't hungry, so I bought the squeezed beans instead. The crispy skin and the creamy filling were delightful. Next time, I definitely want to try their sweet red bean soup or sweet red bean paste. #JapaneseSweets #LoveJapaneseSweets #LoveRedBeanPaste

This is a shop located inside the Shinkansen ticket gates at Kyoto Station. When I arrived at the station and went up the escalator from the Shinkansen platform, I saw it right in front of me so I decided to stop by. I actually wanted to have matcha ice cream at a sweets shop, but it was full with a waiting list for 2 groups. Since I didn't have much time to wait, I just made a purchase. It was the season of the Gion Festival, and there was a sweet called "Gionkai," so I bought that instead. I ate it about a week later, and it was surprisingly delicious. It was made of plumply cooked azuki beans solidified with agar, with a good texture and not too sweet azuki beans. I'm not a big fan of sweet bean paste, but I was really impressed by how delicious it was, maybe because I didn't have high expectations. The website says, "The most important ingredients for Hoseindo are selected premium Tamba black soybeans and Tamba Dainagon azuki beans. We carefully make wagashi one by one without adding preservatives, antiseptics, or unnecessary additives, in order to bring out the deliciousness of the ingredients to the fullest." I am convinced. I will definitely buy souvenirs here whenever I come to Kyoto in the future! Items purchased on that day: ・Gionkai 3-piece pack ¥700

I had chilled sweet red bean soup and chilled matcha. The sweetness was just right and to my liking. The shop is on the right side and there is an eat-in space on the left side. The turnover rate is very good. I signed in and was seated within a few minutes. The staff even asked if I had enough time for my Shinkansen train, which was very kind and made me happy. For those coming to Kyoto by Shinkansen, leaving, or looking for souvenirs, this place is convenient and nice.

This is a nice place to visit inside the Shinkansen ticket gates for a refreshing break. I don't know much about this place, to be honest, I hardly know anything. I just wanted to have a cold matcha while adjusting my time inside the Shinkansen ticket gates. However, when I opened the menu, I was overwhelmed by the interesting items. I wanted to try everything in order, but time was a constraint. I ordered the "Cold Matcha (with sweets)" (1,100 yen) + "Kyoto Shigure" (1,000 yen) - as shown in the photo. The "Cold Matcha" had an extremely refined taste. It was a simple yet noble flavor that exuded elegance. The tea was prepared to perfection. It came with a confection called "Kamo Aoi." Even without being told, it was truly elegant. The "Kyoto Shigure" was a big hit. It was made with agar using natural water, resulting in a soft texture without much sweetness. The use of this natural water was distinctive and played a significant role in the taste of the agar. The combination of three types of beans - Tanba Adzuki beans, white beans, and Tanba black soybeans - was delicious. However, the agar was slightly overwhelmed by the water. It was served with "Squeezed Beans Tanba Kurodaiju," which was deeply flavorful. It might sound strange, but within the "Kyoto Shigure," the lively Adzuki beans were highlighted, and then the "Squeezed Beans" followed, which was amazing. It reminded me of the "Daikokuji Natto" from "Matsuya Tohyohei" near Daikokuji Temple. It was a great combination. Thank you for the wonderful meal. I will remember the taste of this place as I leave Kyoto.
