Recently, I have been unable to eat fried bread, so the variety of bread available at bakeries has become limited. Thinking that I could still eat coppepan, I decided to visit Maruki Bakery. The shop is located slightly east of Omiya Matsubara, with the nearest station being Hankyu or Randen Shijo Omiya Station. I arrived at the shop around 7:30 am on a holiday morning to buy breakfast. There was already a line of about 15 people, and it took about 20 minutes to make a purchase because the food is cooked after ordering. There were many locals, but I also heard a fair amount of standard Japanese being spoken, so there were likely tourists as well. I did not see any foreigners, though. I purchased three coppepan items: 1. Ham Roll (210 yen) - It was a light choice and turned out to be a soft and non-dry bread with a simple filling of shredded cabbage and ham that blended well with the bread. The cabbage was not overly crunchy or soggy, and the ham complemented the bread nicely. It was a simple yet delicious option that I would enjoy eating daily. 2. Anpan (180 yen) - Although it didn't look like it, the bread was soft and the red bean paste was abundant. The red bean paste had a balanced sweetness that paired well with the bread. 3. Cream Pan (160 yen) - The cream was not custard-based but made from condensed milk, offering a gentle sweetness that matched the bread perfectly. It was a unique and tasty cream. Overall, all the bread I bought was delicious and satisfying, making them great options for lunch at work or near home. The total cost of 550 yen was reasonable and convenient. Initially, I was skeptical about why tourists would come all the way here for seemingly ordinary bread, but after tasting it, I understood its value. It's rare to find such delicious bread like this nowadays. I will definitely be back on another holiday morning!

I went there around 6:30 in the morning. It's located a little off Omiya Street, and there was already a small line. They take your order and then fill the bread with ingredients, so there is a short wait, but the turnover is good. It seems like the prices have gone up a bit due to recent events, but I think it's a bread that is loved by the locals.

Thank you for always viewing this page. If you enjoyed it, I would be happy if you could bookmark it by clicking the "Save Shop" button. I searched for various Kyoto souvenirs on Google and came across Maruki Seipanjo, a bakery recommended by an Instagram mutual follower. I visited the bakery for the first time. The address is Matsubara-dori Horikawa Nishi-iru, Shimogyo-ku, Kyoto City, a 6-minute walk from Shijo Omiya Station. Established in 1947, it is a long-established bakery in Kyoto and has been selected as one of the top 100 bread shops in the west by Tabelog. I arrived at the shop at 4:00 PM. Closed on Mondays. Business hours are [Tue-Sat] 6:30 AM-8:00 PM, [Sun/Holidays] 6:30 AM-2:00 PM. There were 15 people waiting outside, showing the popularity of the shop. Due to the summer season, there were not many breads displayed, and orders were taken to prepare bread manually in the kitchen. The most expensive sandwich bread was 290 yen, which is quite reasonable! The interior of the shop has a nostalgic atmosphere with a vintage calculator. When my turn came, I ordered a sandwich bread for myself and curry roll, wiener roll, and shrimp cutlet roll for souvenirs. The total came to 790 yen. After paying, I thanked the staff and left the shop. When I got home, the sandwich bread with fillings was wrapped in wax paper. I took a photo under the sun to share with my wife. The curry roll was made with ham cutlet, not pork cutlet. It was a thick ham cutlet with plenty of shredded cabbage and sauce, simple and delicious. The wiener roll had a curry-flavored stir-fried cabbage instead of shredded cabbage, creating a great combination of crispy wiener and moist cabbage. The shrimp cutlet roll had tartar sauce with shrimp cutlet and lemon-cut cabbage. The crispy coating, lemon acidity, and juicy shrimp made it delicious. This bakery has various unique sandwich breads. I will visit again when they have winter limited items. Thank you for the meal! It was delicious. I will come again!

I visited in the early afternoon on a regular day. There was only one group of customers, so there was no need to line up. However, I heard from someone nearby that it can get crowded at times. The ham sandwich was around 200 yen, and the shrimp cutlet sandwich was 290 yen, I believe. I want to try the peanut butter next time! ^_^

I decided to visit Kyoto since the heat in Osaka has eased a bit. To avoid the serious issue of over-tourism, I came up with a strategy to visit early in the morning. Visiting early means popular shrines and temples are less crowded, and it's cooler too, making it a good plan! I took the Hankyu train around 6 am and arrived at Hankyu Omiya Station around 7 am. By then, I was hungry. That's when I headed to Maruki Seipanjo bakery. They open at 6:30 am, but even by 7 am, there was already a line forming. Since the items are made to order before being displayed, they are fresh. I ordered a Croquette Roll for 250 yen, which arrived in about a minute. The croquette was mostly made of potatoes, freshly fried, crispy on the outside and soft inside, giving it a traditional taste that I enjoyed. Additionally, there was a "Cabbage Slicer" machine next to the showcase. The crunchy cabbage paired well with the crispy croquette, making it a high-quality and delicious treat for 250 yen. It seems that Japan is currently facing increasing poverty, but I hope that businesses like this bakery continue to cater to the common people rather than focusing on foreign visitors or the upper class.

The bread at that place is delicious, I heard from a former female college student, so I decided to make a detour in the evening, but they were already sold out and closed. It was supposed to be open from 5 pm to 8 pm. Determined not to cry, I visited early Sunday morning. There was only one customer ahead of me. It soon became a private setting. There were two older sisters behind the counter. The cabbage-filled sandwich looked delicious, so I bought an omelette, ham cutlet, and salad for 750 yen. I couldn't resist and started eating right there. The salad sandwich had a fluffy bread and the potato salad was also fluffy, with tomatoes hidden inside, giving me a satisfying feeling like having a traditional Kyoto breakfast at Inoda. The omelette had minced meat and ketchup flavor, and tasted even better when eaten with cabbage. The ham cutlet had a nostalgic texture, with quite a thick slice of ham inside. The small shop looked cute from the outside, but you could see a few older sisters making everything by hand in the kitchen at the back. The atmosphere was like an old-fashioned shop from the Showa era. Next time, I want to try their sweet dessert bread. To get there, take the bus from Shijo-Omiya south to the first stop, Omiya Matsubara. Walk east on Matsubara Street right after getting off. It's about a 15-minute walk. If you find it hard to navigate as a tourist, taking the Hankyu train to Shijo-Omiya might be easier to understand.

Inside the shop, 10 staff members are working busily preparing croquette rolls, ham rolls, cutlet rolls, hamburgers, pizzas, apple pies, and many more. The croquette rolls are crispy and delicious, a unique texture I've never experienced before. The popular hamburgers are also tasty. They open early in the morning, and the locals in Kyoto often order around 10 items each. The staff's efficiency is impressive. They only accept cash payments.

Traveling to Kyoto on the second day, the first destination was Arashiyama, so I decided to have breakfast at this bakery near Shijo-Omiya station. It is a famous bakery in Kyoto, and I used to visit it every time I came to Kyoto. This time, I hadn't visited it yet this year, so I decided to go to Arashiyama with this bakery as my starting point. I arrived at the bakery after a 10-minute walk from my hotel in Gojo-Matsubara. Even though it was early in the morning, there were already many customers coming in. I had already decided what to order, so I bought a Custard Roll and their specialty, the "Ham Roll," to enjoy at the park by the river in Arashiyama. The Ham Roll, which is basically a ham cutlet sandwich, was delicious in a classic way. As for the Custard Roll, it was just as delicious as before. I had eaten it before, but I was so impressed by how delicious it was this time. The simple combination of ham and onions sandwiched in a Coppe bread was perfectly balanced, and the quality of the bread itself must be the key. Unlike the Coppe bread sold by major bakeries, which I wouldn't want to eat plain, this bread had a smooth and clean flavor without any roughness. Its simplicity made it a dish that you could never get tired of, and it was the perfect breakfast choice. I was completely satisfied and headed to the next destination.

The nearest station is Shijo Omiya Station, but it's a short walk. This is a bakery that only offers takeout and accepts cash only. I ordered the shrimp cutlet sandwich, which cost 290 yen. It seems they are closed on Mondays. Thank you for the meal.

Coppé pan sandwich from a famous shop known as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. It was featured on TV, so it seems like it will be crowded for a while. Among them, the New Bird seems to be popular, with a curry-flavored fried bread filled with a wiener, which was very delicious. I will come back when it's less busy! Thank you for the meal.

■Established in 1947, a popular local bakery specializing in deli buns ■Wait time: 5 minutes on weekdays at 12:00 PM Maruki Seipanjo is a bakery that has been cherished by local customers since its establishment in 1947. Located about an 8-minute walk from Hankyu Omiya Station in the Matsubara Kyogoku shopping street, the retro store is situated on the 1st floor of a narrow one-way street along Matsubara Street. Maruki's bread is a popular local favorite that has been enjoyed by Kyoto residents for nearly 30 years. I remember fondly my childhood when my mother used to buy Maruki's bread for me, and it's nostalgic to see this beloved local shop being recognized as one of the top 100 stores in the area. Their deli buns, which are easy to make even if 100 customers come in, are priced at 200 yen each, a slight increase from the past due to cost factors. The taste, however, remains unchanged and reliable! ■Ham Roll - 200 yen A simple bun with mayonnaise, ham, and cabbage, a classic combination that hasn't changed over the years. The thick ham combined with mayonnaise creates a delicious oily texture, and the slightly coarse cabbage adds a nice crunch. It's a nostalgic taste that I've been enjoying since kindergarten. ■Croquette Roll - 250 yen Another deli bun using a coppe bread. The croquette roll, a favorite menu item that I've always had since I was a child. The crunchy cabbage, the sweet onion, and the crispy croquette, all complemented by the mayonnaise-coated soft bread, make for a delightful combination. ■Yakisoba Roll - 260 yen A classic deli bun featuring a generous portion of yakisoba. The substantial amount of yakisoba pairs well with the carbohydrates, making it a satisfying choice. ◆I hope you find this information helpful and feel free to save it for future reference◆

The highlight of this Kyoto trip was waking up early to eat bread from Maruki Bakery. The hotel I stayed at was on the same street as the bakery, so the access was perfect. I went to bed early the night before and left the hotel at 7 am to arrive at the bakery in about 10 minutes. There was already a line of about 10 groups, including local families and travelers. Despite the intense morning heat, I patiently waited while imagining the delicious bread. The pizza toast, croquette roll, mentaiko toast, ham roll... First of all, I was surprised by how affordable they were! And every bread was truly delicious. My favorite was the ham roll. The fluffy texture of the bread and the way it melted in my mouth were amazing. The ham roll was served cold, which added to its appeal. It's a simple combination of cabbage and ham sandwiched between bread, but I don't think I could replicate it myself. I am full of gratitude for the staff who tirelessly make bread in the back of the shop. I will definitely come back.

Today, I visited Maruki Seipanjo, located just off Omiya Street in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. This bakery was established in 1947 and is one of the oldest in Kyoto. It has been selected as one of the top 100 shops in 2022. They offer a variety of handcrafted bread rolls with various fillings, all made without relying on machines. The long-lasting deliciousness of their products may be attributed to their overwhelming affordability and approachability. The bakery used to be popular among high school girls due to its proximity to a girls' high school, and the fact that the bread rolls could be easily eaten on the go. The prices are unbelievably low, with most items priced in the 100 yen range. Although there was a price increase of 30 yen earlier this year, the prices are still incredibly cheap. The sizes of the croquette and cutlet fillings have decreased slightly compared to the past. Their offerings include items like Cutlet Roll for 250 yen, Teriyaki Chicken Roll for 280 yen, and Croquette Roll for 250 yen. The Cream Pan for 170 yen features a cream made with condensed milk, which gradually reveals its sweetness. The Chocolate Pan for 170 yen is a nostalgic treat with a generous amount of chocolate on top. The Uguisu, a popular item, has a refreshing sweetness. The bakery continues to offer face-to-face sales, providing a warm and interactive shopping experience. I will definitely visit again. Thank you very much.

I happened to wake up early, so I visited the bakery in time for its 6:30 opening! There were already a few customers inside. By 7 o'clock, a line had formed. I ordered the Ebi Fry Cutlet Sandwich and Ham Sandwich. Both together cost 490 yen! So cheap... I thought it would be a typical bread roll, but everything was exquisite and delicious. The Ebi Fry was crispy and delightful. It's a bakery that makes you want to come back again!

Maruki Bakery, a well-known bakery. Opens at 6:30 AM. Even before 7 AM, there are already several people lining up, mostly locals. At this time, most items are made to order and served fresh! From croquettes to sausages to teriyaki chicken, the bliss of Showa era is living on in the Reiwa era in a high-quality way.

I came to Gion Kagetsu in Kyoto because I wanted to visit "Maruki Seipanjo" that was introduced by my favorite TV show, Ravi. I stayed nearby and woke up at 7:00 in the morning. It took me about 15 minutes to get there, and when I arrived, the line was like the photo! They had about 7-8 types of bread available. I ordered the classic ham bread and it was delicious. The size, taste, and price were all great. If this bakery was nearby, I would go there at least 5 times a week. The bread had a good texture, was easy to eat, and even though it was simple, the slightly thick ham and cabbage were incredibly tasty. I also tried the cream bread, which had a bit too much cream inside. The cream was refreshing and just right for a morning snack. I regret not being able to try all the different types of bread they had. I forgot to take photos of the products, so please refer to other people's photos. I will definitely go back again.

Founded in 1947, Maruki Seipanjo is a long-established bakery loved by the people of Kyoto Prefecture. The nearest station is Shijo-Omiya Station, and the shop is located in a residential area, opening at 6:30 in the morning. Customers can choose their desired items face-to-face with the staff. I purchased three types of coppe bread: - Vienna Sausage: 220 yen - Ham Roll: 170 yen - Cream Bread: 140 yen The coppe bread itself is soft and likely to be enjoyed by children and elderly people. The fillings are simple and not boring. The sausage is paired with curry-flavored cabbage, the ham with shredded cabbage and thick ham slices, and the cream bread has a generous amount of milky cream. The best part is that the prices are affordable! Recently, I have been surprised by the total bill when buying bread, but this shop offers reasonable prices. They open at 6:30 in the morning, and there are times when there are long queues. I hope this kind of shop will continue to be cherished and loved for a long time. Thank you for the delicious meal. It is located about an 8-minute walk from Omiya Station. Ham Roll 200 yen A coppe pan with thick ham and plenty of shredded cabbage. The amount of mayonnaise is just right. The bread is soft, almost squishy, and slightly sweet, making it delicious. The refreshing feeling from the cabbage and mayonnaise, combined with the lightness of the bread, makes it feel like you're drinking something while eating. I didn't have much room in my stomach, so I stuck to one kind, but next time I want to try a few different varieties.
