Today I stayed in Kyoto. I finished my work at the hotel and now it's time for dinner! I had already decided to go to Ho-Hi for dinner. I haven't posted any reviews, but I visit this place quite often haha. My usual order is: - Mustard Chicken - Gyoza - Egg Soup (forgot to take a photo) - Rice First, the Mustard Chicken arrives. Depending on the day I visit, there may be some variation in the juiciness and spiciness of the fried chicken, but this day it was perfect. When you bite into the crispy coating, you'll taste the juicy chicken meat, followed by the sourness and spiciness of the sauce. The first bite may not seem too spicy, but as you eat more, the spiciness kicks in... spicy!! The rice helps to balance it out. About halfway through, the Gyoza arrives. Lately, I've been more into the Gyoza than the Mustard Chicken. The meaty texture with the crunch of the water chestnut is amazing. Dip it in the vinegar-heavy soy sauce with a bit of mustard, and it's the best! Lastly, the hot Egg Soup. A Chinese-style soup with kelp. It's delicious! The pickled daikon radish that comes with the rice is a great palate cleanser. Today, I'm once again completely satisfied and full! I hope to visit this place often this year too!

I love these dumplings, they might be the best in Kyoto! My second favorite is Seiyo-ken near Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, they have a different style. The dumplings here have a crispy and firm skin, while the ones at the second place have a soft skin. It depends on personal preference which one is better. The popular dishes at this restaurant are the spicy soba and the extremely delicious spicy chicken. They are both so good with plenty of vegetables and chicken. I always struggle because one serving of dumplings is not enough for me - if I order two servings, I won't be able to try other dishes that I want. The spicy chicken is a must-try, but it's too much for one person. One time, a young woman next to me ordered half of the spicy chicken to go, so I decided to do the same next time. The restaurant is usually crowded, but I went at 1:30 pm and got seated right away. There is no parking lot, so you have to park at a nearby coin parking. At night, there might be a wait of about an hour. I didn't have enough dumplings, so I ordered two servings to go along with the chicken tempura. I froze them and planned to have them with vegetables and sweet and sour pork or sweet and sour chicken. You can make a phone reservation for takeout. This place is highly recommended! It's located near Kitaoji Bridge in northern Kyoto, where I got rear-ended by a dump truck last November. I had to go for neck rehabilitation for a while, and since then my health hasn't been the same. When you visit Kamigamo Shrine, make sure to stop by this place. The other menu items are also incredibly delicious! I really want to go there again, but I have so many restaurants I want to visit that it's hard to choose when I'm alone.

The shop has a quietly understated appearance, making you wonder if it's open for business. This popular restaurant seems to inherit the DNA of the famous Kyoto Chinese restaurant "Hoobu". They offer specialties such as "karashidori" and "karashi soba". I had already tried the karashi soba at another place, so this time I ordered the karashidori and fried rice. The karashidori was crispy and covered in a sauce that had a strong spiciness, possibly from chili peppers. The fried rice portion seemed a bit small, but it was delicious nonetheless. I enjoyed combining the karashidori with the sauce and finishing the meal in one go.

During a break from work, I visited this restaurant for lunch. I had no idea that there was a famous Chinese restaurant just a 15-minute walk from my office, but I recently discovered it and decided to try it out today! I had Tianjin rice and siu mai. The Tianjin rice was delicious with a unique texture from the onions. The siu mai had a hearty meaty taste and was very satisfying to eat. I plan to visit this restaurant regularly to try out different menu items in the future!

The keyword for exploring Chinese cuisine in Kyoto is "Sanbagarasu" (three black crows) led by Mr. Koka Kichi, who is known for his elegant dancing. The recommended dishes include karashi soba, shumai, harumaki, karaage, ramen, and champon. The flavors are traditional and authentic, highlighting the natural taste of the ingredients without being too oily or spicy. This unique Kyoto-style Chinese cuisine is truly delicious and a must-try when visiting Kyoto. The restaurant also offers excellent fried rice and ramen. I look forward to trying the rumored karashi dori on my next visit, and I hope they will consider adding more drink options besides beer and sake. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

Amazing Chinese food in Kyoto!! A popular restaurant where you must line up for dishes like fried rice with shrimp and spicy shrimp tempura. I usually get takeout, but this time I dined in. The tempura shrimp tastes better when eaten at the restaurant rather than taking it home where it can get soggy. The fried rice with shrimp is so delicious. The spicy shrimp tempura is a must-try. It might be too spicy for those who don't like spicy food. Other recommended dishes include Chinese rice bowl, dumplings, yakisoba, and yakitori soba (recommended to eat at the restaurant as takeout can make it too greasy). Even on weekdays, a line forms 10 minutes before opening. The restaurant opens at 12 pm and last order is at 1:30 pm. Some customers finish eating quickly and leave by 12:45 pm, so lunch may end after two rounds of seating. I always line up around 11:45 am to avoid waiting too long. It's so delicious!! Highly recommended!!

"Top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. About 30 minutes by bus from Kyoto Station towards Daikoku-ji. After eating cold noodles at a nearby restaurant, I still felt hungry and decided to walk 3 minutes to this place. Arrived 15 minutes before opening and surprisingly got the first spot in line. It seems that locals wait in their cars and suddenly appear in a line before the restaurant opens. They have counter seats available so dining alone is possible. You write down your menu choices on a piece of paper and hand it over to the staff. - Gyoza: Small but crispy and delicious. I wanted to eat it with fried rice but it never came. Finished the gyoza and entered a void of time. - Karashi Chicken: Probably meant for two people in terms of portion size, but no problem finishing it alone. I thought it was Japanese mustard but it turned out to be chili peppers! I'm not good with spicy food but this was just bearable. The acidity makes it perfect for summer! The thick batter was crispy. Seems like almost everyone orders this dish, and rightfully so, it was delicious. - Fried Rice: It seems they cook each menu item separately, regardless of the order in which people lined up. Despite leaving a few pieces of karashi chicken, there was no sign of the fried rice being ready. People who came later have already started to leave. Well, I reluctantly finished my meal and returned the plate to the staff, hoping they would notice. Looking around, I saw that other tables had already received their fried rice before me! Maybe I was forgotten... Oh well, it was delicious. During busy lunch times, it might be better to limit your order to just two dishes. Nevertheless, the level of Chinese restaurants in Kyoto is indeed high!"

The chicken was juicy and crispy, with a tangy sauce that was delicious! I visited this Chinese restaurant in Kyoto for the first time and there was a short wait for a table. The restaurant is located in a quiet area away from the busy streets of Kyoto. I ordered the mustard chicken, which was juicy and crispy with a tangy sauce that was great! I also ordered the fried rice, which was fluffy and slightly oily but didn't leave me feeling too full. It was also delicious!

The taste was slightly different from what I had imagined, but still within an acceptable range. The fried rice and yakisoba are delicious. The atmosphere of the restaurant is calm and cozy, creating a pleasant space. The welcoming smell and bright lighting from the entrance also add to the comfort. The staff greet you with smiles and provide attentive service, making it easy for first-time visitors to feel at ease. The food is exquisite, with unique flavors and fresh ingredients that will leave you impressed with every bite. The chef's special dishes are highly recommended, offering delicate flavors that dance on your palate. The portions are generous, leaving you satisfied. Be sure to enjoy the various delicious dishes. It's no wonder why this restaurant has many regular customers. Once you visit, you'll definitely want to come back for more. The anticipation for the next visit will be high, as they offer a highly satisfying dining experience. Experience the greatness of this restaurant for yourself. Wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food await you. I wanted to convey the charm of this restaurant, which is why I shared this detailed review. When you're in the area, be sure to visit. You'll surely have a fantastic time.

Feng Fei, a Cantonese restaurant located on Kitaoji Street in Kyoto (Shimono Shimoda-cho, Kita-ku), was selected as one of the top 100 Chinese restaurants in the West by Tabelog. We visited with three people and ordered dumplings for ¥350, Tianjin rice for ¥650, shumai for ¥600, spicy soba for ¥700, and spicy chicken for ¥1,200, totaling ¥3,500. The personal rating was 3.1 stars.
Upon arrival, there was a 17-person wait, and we barely made it in at 5:55 pm. The seating arrangement was a bit chaotic, with a mix of table and counter seats. The food was served starting at 6:00 pm, with the dumplings being the first to arrive.
The dumplings had a vegetable-heavy filling with an overly salty taste. The Tianjin rice was delicious with plenty of vegetables and meat. The shumai had a thin skin and a generous filling, making it a must-order item. The spicy soba had a unique flavor with a hint of mustard, but lacked depth of flavor. The spicy chicken was indeed spicy and tangy, but also lacked depth of flavor.
Overall, the food was somewhat average, with the exception of the delicious shumai. The service was a bit inconsistent, with a significant difference in serving speed between dishes. Despite the discrepancies, it is a restaurant worth visiting at least once.

Arrived around 16:50 on Saturday. There were already customers waiting in front of the store for the opening. Unfortunately, we were cut off from entering before us, and the next entry was about an hour later. We were told to decide on our order and communicate it before entering. However, additional orders were not allowed. The following were ordered (tax included):
- Mustard Chicken (14): 1,200 yen
- Shumai (16): 600 yen
- Gyoza (17): 350 yen
- Tamagoyaki Donburi (20): 650 yen
- Mustard Soba (26): 700 yen
<Mustard Chicken>
Fried chicken with a spicy sauce was served. The sauce was moderately spicy, and as someone with a medium tolerance for spiciness, it felt a bit spicy without water. I didn't feel much umami in it.
<Shumai>
This shumai had a distinctive appearance with lotus root inside, giving it a unique texture. Despite expecting a strong flavor, it also felt somewhat lacking.
<Gyoza>
Eight pieces of gyoza were served on a plate. The taste was average, but it also felt somewhat lacking in umami or depth of flavor.
<Tamagoyaki Donburi>
Essentially a Tianjin rice bowl, but with a slightly different appearance from the usual Tianjin rice. It had various ingredients inside the egg, which made it delicious.
<Mustard Soba>
It was like a five-ingredient soba with a mustard flavor. This one was simply delicious.
Overall, the pace of the dishes coming out was slow, leaving us waiting with nothing to eat between finishing one dish and waiting for the next. Chinese restaurants are usually known for their fast service, so this was disappointing. We had to ask the staff for water as it was not automatically provided. Personally, I felt that the dishes lacked depth of flavor. While I am not confident in my own taste buds, it seems that it did not match my preferences. Not being able to make additional orders and the slow turnover were also aspects that I did not particularly like.

Located near the Horikawa Imamiya intersection on Horikawa Street in Kyoto's Kita Ward, this restaurant exudes a simple yet elegant Japanese atmosphere. The interior is cozy with a modern touch. The menu consists of a variety of single dishes, ranging from traditional to original options. One notable dish is the "karashi chicken," featuring crispy fried chicken coated in a flavorful sauce. The chicken is tender and juicy, complemented by a well-balanced sweet, spicy, and tangy sauce. The egg soup is light and smooth, enhancing the natural flavors of the ingredients. This Chinese restaurant, which avoids using strong garlic or spices, maintains a traditional approach to its cuisine. With a mix of locals and tourists, the restaurant has been a beloved establishment in the community for many years.

There was no parking lot and the nearest station was far away, so I couldn't go easily. However, I had some extra time so I parked at the coin parking lot across the street and visited the restaurant. The exterior had more of a Japanese-style atmosphere rather than Chinese. The interior was clean and cozy with around 4 tables and 5 counter seats. I was able to get a table right away when I arrived at the opening, but even on a rainy Monday, there was soon a waiting line forming. The fried rice was 650 yen, the shumai was 600 yen, the spring rolls were 1100 yen, and the egg soup was 100 yen. Everything was delicious, but especially the shumai is a must-try dish! When you bite into it, your mouth will be filled with the savory taste of meat! If I wasn't driving, I would have definitely wanted to have a beer too! I will visit again! Thank you for the meal!

The Chinese restaurant that opens at 12 o'clock is a popular spot. I arrived around 11:50 and was about 20th in line. Luckily, there were counter seats available, so I was able to be seated on the first round. You order by telling them the menu numbers, and they make the dishes based on the order volume. I ordered the spicy noodles for 700 yen and dumplings for 350 yen. The dumplings were crispy and tasty, and the portion was good for the price. The spicy noodles had a generous amount of ingredients like shrimp, meat, green onions, bell peppers, shiitake mushrooms, and bamboo shoots. The spiciness was well distributed when mixed properly, but be careful not to mix too sweetly as it can be a bit strong. The sauce at the end was not overly spicy, which was a relief. The bill shows the order numbers and quantities, so it's a bit challenging to remember what each number corresponds to. Overall, it was a great experience, and I would love to try other items on the menu in the future.

I slid in just before the last order for lunch at 13:30. I was warmly seated. Despite being a famous restaurant, I thought the atmosphere might be intimidating, but it was actually very friendly. The interior was clean and well-organized. I ordered three dishes: sweet and sour pork, dumplings, and fried rice. The sweet and sour pork was almost all pork, with a high density of meat and a refreshing sauce that made it easy to eat. The dumplings, 8 pieces for 350 yen, had a fragrant aroma of chives and were gone in no time. The fried rice was classic and delicious. Sharing these three dishes between two people only cost 1100 yen in total, which was amazing value for money. They also have noodle dishes, so I definitely plan to visit again. I'm thinking of coming back at night next time.

Once you step inside, you'll feel a cozy, homely atmosphere with regular customers chatting away. There were also customers picking up takeout orders. Everything I tried was delicious!! The dumplings here were unforgettable, with a perfect meaty flavor! The spring rolls were also great, on the lighter side. The sweet and sour pork allowed you to fully enjoy the meat. The dumplings were small and perfect for popping in your mouth. Overall, it was a satisfying Chinese meal with a high level of enjoyment!

Around 12:45, there were 6 people waiting outside... It seems you need to write your name in a notebook inside... Inside, there were names for 5 people waiting. When I went to the nearby convenience store ATM and came back, the people waiting were gone. Inside, I was seated at the counter around 13:00. The specialty here is mustard chicken. According to reviews, if you like spicy food, they recommend the mustard chicken. The staff showed me a menu with photos and also recommended yakisoba and mustard ramen, but I stuck with the mustard chicken and some gyoza. The gyoza arrived in about 5 minutes and was delicious with crunchy vegetables. The mustard chicken came a bit later, and it was very spicy! Even though it wasn't on the menu, I ordered some rice to help balance out the spiciness. I managed to finish it all, but I couldn't quite figure out what was good about it. The chicken was tender, the rice was average. I paid 1670 yen in cash and went to pick up my reservation. If I hadn't tried the gyoza, I would have given a lower rating. It's a bit tricky if you don't like spicy food. I'm not sure if this is Chinese or Sichuan cuisine, but it's hit or miss sometimes, not for everyone.

First visit to this restaurant. Rumored to be one of the three legendary stores following the flow of the Fengwu. Ordered gyoza, shumai, fried rice, Tianjin rice, and karashi noodles. Each dish gave me a new sensation, with a unique texture, seasoning, and grilling style that is characteristic of this restaurant. Overall, the flavors are delicate and elegant, and everything was very delicious! I especially loved the shumai, Tianjin rice, and karashi noodles! Plus, with all these dishes, the bill came out to be less than 3000 yen, so the cost performance is really great! I will definitely come back again!

I had the "karashi soba" and fried rice at the renowned 40-year-old establishment, "Hoohi." The display of beckoning cats inside the shop is impressive. The refreshing and rich flavor of the mustard that smoothly escapes from the nose was delicious. The fried rice was also tasty, but I suffered from severe heartburn after eating, perhaps due to the old oil? Thank you for the meal.

The spicy chicken was spicier than I expected, but it had a addictive level of spiciness. The dumplings were meaty. The fried rice had shrimp in it! Overall, the flavors were not as strong as typical Chinese dishes, which left me feeling a bit unsatisfied as I am used to stronger flavors.

"Lao Mian (karashimen)" and "Shumai" are restaurants that I got hooked on in Kyoto. I choked on the famous karashimen, but I still slurped it up. At first, it's a soba with a perfect amount of karashi sauce, but halfway through, you feel a strong kick of karashi and might choke. You can't let your guard down. Despite that, the deliciousness is addictive. It's my favorite. They don't use any special ingredients, but they make Chinese food that tastes amazing. The same goes for the shumai. The deliciousness is surprisingly good. The meaty flavor is the best. I can't stop eating. Kyoto's local Chinese restaurants are terrifyingly delicious. They are so delicious that I got hooked. It's amazing. I want to complete the menu...
