Near Biei Station, there is a restaurant popular for its Western dishes such as Pot-au-feu, Gratin, and Hayashi Rice. I visited for lunch. Since it's getting colder, maybe I should order the Pot-au-feu... "Pot-au-feu (with appetizer and rice)" (1,200 yen including tax) and after that, I ordered the "Cake Set" (500 yen for meal use) with a crafty without cream and a hot coffee. First, the appetizer was brought out. The appetizer... Colorful vegetables are beautifully arranged on the plate. Green beans, radish, lettuce, carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, corn, and more. The crispy texture of the vegetables is abundant. The slightly acidic dressing complements the fresh vegetables well. The vegetables taste really delicious. Then, after about 7-8 minutes, the Pot-au-feu and rice arrived. When I ordered, I asked the staff if the portion was quite large, and indeed, the portion is generous. (There is also a half size available.) "You can have refills of the soup and mustard, just let us know." they said. I tried the soup with the French mustard provided, and it seems you can enjoy the Pot-au-feu while dipping it in the mustard. I took a sip of the soup. It has a consomme-like flavor with the umami of the vegetables. I asked if there were any other ingredients used, and they mentioned that they simmer it slowly to bring out the flavor, then adjust the taste with salt. The ingredients include chicken, Vienna sausages, cabbage, potatoes, butterbur, onions, leeks, and more. Everything is simmered until tender, especially the chicken easily falls off the bone. The vegetables are very large, with cabbage being about a quarter in size. Potatoes and onions are smaller, but they are whole. Eating it with mustard gives a taste similar to a Western-style oden. Despite the substantial portion, it mainly consists of vegetables, so I enjoyed finishing it all. (I didn't ask for refills of the soup or mustard, but some might want to with this delicious soup.) For dessert, I had cake and coffee. The crafty without cream... The pear is sweet and tender from being simmered. As a result, the custard inside and the cream on top are made with a mild sweetness. It's a well-balanced taste that allows you to fully enjoy the deliciousness of the pear. A satisfying lunch at a restaurant where dishes are carefully prepared with time and care!
