Revenge bowl! On the last day in Hakodate, I drew the short straw at the Hakodate Morning Market, so I thought long and hard about my eating schedule (and ended up falling asleep while thinking). I decided to try the breakfast buffet at the Hakodate International Hotel, which was recommended by several people. Inside, there was a make-your-own seafood bowl corner with salmon, squid, salmon roe, and negitoro lined up! The rice was lightly vinegared and warm. I was so excited as I piled on the toppings. "Hey, hey, hey, this alone is worth 3,000 yen, right?" I exclaimed, while my husband calmly added plenty of toppings to his bowl. There was also a steak corner and Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) for breakfast! They even had wine and a variety of drinks. I had multiple servings of the salmon roe bowl. I might not need to eat for a while after this. Every dish was so delicious. There were many awards displayed at the entrance! The chefs must be amazing. This restaurant was recommended by Hokkaido professionals. It was a bit pricey at 3,500 yen per person, but it was a hundred times better than the other restaurant. The Hakodate International Hotel had a spacious and great view bath, and the lounge on the bath floor had ice candies for guests to enjoy. It's a great hotel. I want to come back again! I also bought freshly baked bread at the hotel shop. I should have brought a big container for domestic trips too. I'll carefully bring it back like a VIP so it doesn't get squished.

The final day's breakfast was at the hotel buffet! This was also a main event of our trip to Hakodate~♫ Hakodate's breakfast buffet was a hot topic, so we compared various accommodations when choosing our hotel. We arrived at the venue just before 7 am and were smoothly guided to our table. (It got crowded right after that) At times like this, I tend to focus on Japanese menu items, but the Western dishes also looked delicious. The shrimp, fish, and ikura all seemed fresh. My dream come true...a personalized seafood bowl...yum! I wonder how much ikura I've eaten this year. At the live kitchen, they were serving grilled shabu-shabu, as well as curry and noodles made to order.

I heard that the breakfast buffet at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel is amazing, so I decided to skip the Hakodate Morning Market and give it a try. The seafood section was impressive with vinegared rice, salmon, sweet shrimp, ikura (salmon roe), and negitoro (minced tuna with green onions) in abundance. In addition, there were beef shabu-shabu, Hakodate curry, and Hakodate ramen further back. There were also mentaiko (spicy cod roe) and Matsumaezuke pickles. If you're looking to have a bowl for breakfast (with ikura as the main ingredient), the 2500 yen option here is definitely more affordable than the 2000 yen option at the morning market. The taste of the marinated ikura was also great, so I'm grateful for that. Now, I find myself torn between L'apres-midi and the Kokusai Hotel for breakfast. It's also nice that children under a certain age can eat for free.

Hakodate Kokusai Hotel in Otemachi, Hakodate! This place is popular for its breakfast. It is located about a 7-8 minute walk from JR Hakodate Station, and is well-known for its focus on food, falling under the category of a ryokan (Japanese inn). I visited on a weekday and had a pretty good experience. I purchased an original product from Hakodate Kokusai Hotel, the "Ezo Squirrel Hovar Cookie." This cookie is a hard type cookie with various dried fruits and two types of chocolate chips. The texture is crispy at first bite, followed by a slightly moist inside. The combination of dried fruits and chocolate chips creates a delicious flavor. The atmosphere of the hotel is nice, the cleanliness is well-maintained, and the hospitality is high. The price range is reasonable, and the cookie was tasty. The free ice candy service after using the natural hot spring bath was a nice touch. Overall, it is a recommended place to stay in Hakodate.

I have stayed at various hotels and had breakfast, but this place is my number one choice. In this era of high prices, being able to eat as much ikura as you want is amazing. The breakfast and the bath here are so cost-effective that I feel like I've already gotten my money's worth. A colleague who chose this hotel based on the breakfast did a great job! The seafood bowl section had a display of a seafood parfait. Underneath, there were ikura, squid, sweet shrimp, salmon, and crab innards. I couldn't believe it, so I filled my bowl to the brim. If I ate this in Tokyo, it would cost 5,000 yen per bowl. I ended up having two bowls. The taste was amazing, thanks to the quality ingredients from Hokkaido. Not just the seafood, but even the other ingredients were top-notch. For example, the tarako had a real chewy texture. I could eat it endlessly because it wasn't bad at all. I wanted to take a whole container of it home. The mapo tofu had the same taste as the authentic one I had in Guangzhou. It was really delicious. Everything was so delicious that I wanted to stay at this hotel for a week. The variety here is way better than a certain famous hotel buffet. They even have beef loin and grilled shabu-shabu that they cook in front of you, with wine placed next to it. You can drink white and red wine as much as you want from the morning. It's impossible to work like this. I ended up bringing white wine. Eating the meat with chopped wasabi in between made me feel like I didn't want to do anything today. Even though I don't usually drink milk, I had milk with a milk printed cheesecake for dessert. Thanks to that, my stomach was full until the afternoon, and skipping lunch was just right. This is actually economical. It's wallet-friendly in a way. My next business trip is planned for March next year, and I definitely want to stay at this hotel again.

Breakfast during the trip. The buffet style offers a wide variety of dishes, from Japanese to Western to Chinese, which is a major plus. Overall, the food was delicious. However, the quality of the seafood was a bit disappointing. The ikura lacked the desired popping texture when bitten into, and the salmon was not as fresh and springy as expected, resembling supermarket sashimi. It was nice to have unlimited ikura, negitoro, and sashimi though. The live beef shabu-shabu also fell short in terms of meat quality. I was hoping for a melt-in-your-mouth texture, but the meat was surprisingly tough and required a lot of chewing. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the variety of dishes available, such as mapo tofu, seafood curry, and salt ramen. If you're looking for seafood, it's better to visit the nearby morning market. Overall, if you want to try a variety of dishes, this breakfast buffet is quite recommended. Thank you for the meal.

In a ranking from some time ago, La Vista Hakodate Bay was competing with Century Marina Hakodate for breakfast buffets. At this place, you can make your own seafood bowl for breakfast, but of course, there are many other things to eat. They also had beef shabu-shabu and seafood curry made right in front of you. There was wine available, so I had a light drink.

My trip to Hakodate started with breakfast buffet at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel. The excitement of choosing from a surprisingly wide variety of dishes goes beyond just a regular breakfast. The highlight was the seafood bowl. Generously topped with ikura, buri, sweet shrimp, salmon, and negitoro, it was as luxurious as the neighboring Lavista, and the satisfaction level is definitely high. As a seafood lover, I was impressed by its extravagance and freshness. I also tried the Chinese dishes, which are a feature of the hotel. They had mapo tofu and medicinal hot tofu, which are irresistible to Chinese food lovers. The extremely spicy mapo tofu was really spicy and delicious. What surprised me was that they served steak and Genghis Khan from the morning. And the fact that wine was also available in the morning is the epitome of a luxurious breakfast. To fully enjoy the delicious food, you will need at least an hour. For dessert, there was a rich and creamy milk pudding. This was another delight that added elegance to the morning. The breakfast buffet at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel allows you to enjoy seafood, Chinese, and even luxurious steak, and the cost performance is excellent.

If you are on a business trip to Hakodate, you want to choose a good hotel. This time, I stayed at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel and had a flawless breakfast. This is my third time here, so this time I will focus on specific items. First, a seafood bowl generously topped with salmon roe instead of soy sauce! - The first bowl was salmon, squid, and negitoro. - The second bowl was a luxurious two-color negitoro bowl. Delicious! The steak and omelet made by the chef in front of me were also delicious. The meal ended with pudding and Misuzu coffee. The firm pudding has a gentle taste that goes well with the coffee. A breakfast focused on favorite items. It was delicious!

Hakodate breakfast battle. Of course, I'm here for the breakfast. The breakfast is served in the first-floor venue with doors opening at 5:30 am, but on the morning of December 29, 2022, there were already 5-6 groups waiting 10 minutes before opening. The hotel staff mentioned that it gets quite crowded after 7 am. There was a map of the venue on the table we were seated at. By looking at it, you can quickly see where everything is, but there was no time to study it carefully. The best approach would be to grab what you're looking for first, enjoy it, and then think about what's next. Obviously, the first choice is the seafood bowl. Unlimited ikura, buri, sweet shrimp, salmon, negitoro... This is... the exact same lineup as the neighboring Lavista. The manager here had previously stated on a TV show that they are copying the neighboring restaurant, and it seems true. However, that doesn't matter. As long as the food is delicious and enjoyable, that's all that matters. So, I went for a little rice with a heaping amount of ikura on top and a separate seafood bowl. Another morning of seafood indulgence and I'm satisfied. I can't tell if the ikura is from Hokkaido or not, but it's delicious, so it's all good. This place is known for its Chinese cuisine, so I tried the mapo tofu and medicinal hot tofu. The mapo tofu was decent, with a slightly vague spiciness. The medicinal hot tofu has a medicinal taste but doesn't seem to be exceptional. This day, I tried to include some standard menu items, but it would have been better to focus more on live kitchen options like Genghis Khan, steaks, and omelets. The mealtime was indicated to be 40-50 minutes, which was a bit confusing. In reality, an hour is not enough time. The pudding dessert was rich in milk flavor. People have their own preferences when it comes to pudding, but I think it's good to have a milk-based one occasionally even if you prefer custard. Also, they serve wine in the morning here, so if you have time to relax, having wine and a buffet in the morning is nice. Thank you for the meal. There seem to be too many staff members, making it feel a bit unsettling. There seems to be a staff member's gaze wherever you look, which can be a bit uncomfortable. Especially with the time limit request, it becomes even more unsettling. This hotel is the second in the Hakodate breakfast battle, and the remaining Century Hotel did not have a solo plan. It would have been great to visit all three together, but it can't be helped. I would consider coming back to this one or the neighboring one, but when will be the next time? Among the three, this one is the most affordable, so this might be the first one to revisit. I don't like Corona, but the national travel support was helpful.

I enjoyed a luxurious dinner at a work meeting. It started with sashimi and included a variety of Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes. Since it was all-you-can-drink, I paired the food with sake and wine. While some people stick to the same drink, I prefer to enjoy different drinks that complement the food. Having had a lot of seafood in Hakodate, the fillet steak here was incredibly tender and delicious! I could have eaten as many as I wanted!

On the morning of the third day of my solo trip, I had breakfast at the Hakodate Kokusai Hotel where I was staying. I had requested breakfast between 6:00 and 7:00 when I checked in the day before. I arrived at 6:30 with my breakfast ticket and went to the dining area. I had read reviews saying that there could be long lines for breakfast, so I was prepared, but I was seated at a table without having to wait. There was a good variety of dishes available, although nothing particularly stood out. The food was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

On this day, I traveled from Sapporo to Hakodate for business. I stayed at this international hotel, which I haven't visited in a few years. The classical interior creates a calm atmosphere in this long-established hotel, and their breakfast buffet is famous. A few years ago, they even ranked second nationwide. However, with the fierce competition in the breakfast buffet scene near Hakodate Station, it seems like they have been overshadowed by the newer hotels in the area in recent years. Personally, I have been staying at Century Marina for the past two years, but this time it was fully booked, which is the real reason I ended up here. The freshness of the ikura in the DIY seafood bowl, a staple of the buffet, is truly impressive. However, when it comes to the variety of dishes, they can't quite compete with the newer hotels. Nevertheless, being a long-established hotel, I believe the accommodation fee is quite reasonable when considering the room quality and overall experience. It's a great option for business trips or solo travel, offering good value for money!

How good is the super famous buffet that breaks into the national hotel breakfast ranking? First of all, seafood bowl, sweet shrimp, squid, salmon, negitoro, ikura. Sweet shrimp and salmon are at the level of conveyor belt sushi, negitoro is a bit better as it doesn't have a fishy smell. Squid and ikura are clearly better than conveyor belt sushi. The sushi rice is quite flavorful, probably because it is meant to be eaten with dashi broth. Adjust the saltiness with furikake and kombu seaweed. Dishes made with Hokkaido ingredients like sautéed Ezo matsutake mushrooms, seaweed from Matsumae, potatoes from Hokkaido, and salted fish roe sauté are something you won't find in a regular buffet. The Australian beef steak from the chef's kitchen with ginger sauce is also delicious. The hotel's flagship Chinese dish, the spicy Sichuan mapo tofu, is not as spicy as expected. It is better suited for lunch or dinner rather than breakfast. The soup curry with Chinese spices is unique and different from Sapporo-style soup curry. The salt ramen is a delicious Hakodate-style ramen with a unique broth. The Hakodate milk pudding is very sweet but you can still taste the milk. The Katsugen jelly, a blend of milk and Katsugen, is a must-try for those unfamiliar with it. The Hakodate milk is a classic and a must-have for visitors. Overall, this buffet offers a hybrid experience with top-notch seafood and delicious Chinese dishes, making it a great value hotel with excellent interior and affordable room service.

On the third day of my trip to Hakodate in October 2021, I had breakfast at the hotel again. This time, I decided to try the buffet at the venue on the 8th floor of the West Wing, hoping for a better view. It was Sunday at 7 am, and there were several couples waiting outside the venue due to its smaller size compared to yesterday. I waited for over 10 minutes before being seated. The breakfast content was almost the same as yesterday, which made me wish for a bit more variety. However, the one clear difference for me today was that alcohol was available. Since I had plans to drive yesterday, I refrained from drinking, but today being the last day, I enjoyed a glass of white wine which was much better than the cheap wine from Seicomart last night. I decided to avoid the usual scrambled eggs and opted for steak and Genghis Khan at the Chef's Kitchen, as I believe that eating is an essential part of experiencing Hakodate. Despite trying to control my portions, I couldn't resist the omelet and seafood bowl, although I limited the amount of ikura I put on top. The view from the 8th floor was not as expected due to being seated near a pillar that obstructed the scenery, which was disappointing. I tried to eat less than yesterday, but I still ended up eating more than usual.

On the second day of my trip to Hakodate in October 2021, I had the pleasure of staying at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel. Their breakfast is said to be delicious, so I was looking forward to it. The restaurant Azelia on the 1st floor of the East Wing was where the meals were served. Upon being seated, there was a map of the food layout on the table. I couldn't resist the classic bacon, ham, sausage, and scrambled eggs. The hamburger and zangi also caught my eye. And of course, there was the seafood section. I loaded up on ikura generously, keeping the rice portion small. If I had eaten this at the morning market, it would have cost at least 1,000 yen. I also added squid, salmon, sweet shrimp, tarako, and negitoro to turn the ikura bowl into a seafood bowl. Moving further back, there was a Chef's Steak corner where they cooked steak and omelettes right in front of you. If there's omelette, I could have skipped the scrambled eggs. Next to it was a little Chinese corner with two types of mapo tofu: Sichuan spicy and mushroom. Obviously, I had to try both. I was also tempted by the salad, croquettes, simmered dishes, grilled mackerel, and hot tofu. And the soup. Today's highlight was the yellowtail hot pot. It had a lot of fish head in it, and the umami flavor was amazing. The seafood bowl was delicious, but this yellowtail hot pot was the best. It took me a while to decide what to eat. I started with the salad and then had the freshly made omelette and steak. Meat is always delicious. I may have gone overboard with the ikura on the seafood bowl. The fresh sashimi was great, but the grilled mackerel was also delicious. For dessert, I had yogurt and Hakodate milk pudding. The yogurt was blueberry flavored, as always. The milk pudding was like soft serve and very tasty. I definitely ate too much. And now, it's time to start the second day.

Breakfast buffet at the International Hotel, which is becoming my regular accommodation in Hakodate. I had to declare my entry time in advance due to the expected crowd. When I arrived on time, it was really crowded. I didn't expect it to be this busy after the empty public bath last night. Since I was alone, I was quickly seated and instructed to leave in 40-50 minutes due to the crowd. I didn't need to be told, I'll finish quickly in this crowded situation. I mistakenly thought the vinegared rice was plain rice, so I loaded up on it, miso soup, grilled salmon, pumpkin croquette, scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, salad, natto, pickled plum, seasoned seaweed, pudding, and milk. The vinegared rice I thought was sour turned out to be for seafood, haha. I went to confirm this in the middle of the meal. The miso soup had self-serve ingredients. I put in plenty of Nameko mushrooms, wakame seaweed, and green onions. I secured some of these green onions for the natto. The grilled salmon, which I think was red, was cooked to my liking with a light saltiness. I don't like pumpkin, but I love pumpkin croquettes. They were crispy, sweet, and delicious. It might be obvious, but the buffet was several levels above a business hotel. The pudding was the highlight, and the milk was rich and tasty. Even though breakfast was included in my multiple-night stay, I prioritized visiting a restaurant for lunch and only had one meal here. If I had woken up earlier, it would have been better... Thank you for taking care of me.

On April 3, 2021, my family of four went on a trip to visit my father in Hakodate. We stayed at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel for the first night, which is the hotel we use most frequently. In Hakodate, Hakodate Kokusai Hotel, La Vista Hakodate, and Century Marina Hakodate are all competing with their breakfast buffets. In fact, three hotels from Hakodate are in the top 10 list of best breakfast buffets. As usual, after taking a bath, we had breakfast. The breakfast at Hakodate Kokusai Hotel was good, with a focus on seafood, supported by steak and omelets. There was a variety of other dishes as well, allowing us to enjoy different options. For first-time visitors, it would be a luxurious experience. However, since we have visited many times, we are somewhat used to it. The hotel has a stylish lobby and spacious rooms, which is great, but I think they could be more ambitious with their food. Also, for the hot springs, it would be better if the temperature was slightly lower to allow for a more relaxing experience. Since the facilities are already there, I hope they continue to strive for improvement.

This is my first stay since the renovation. I was looking forward to the open-air bath, but the door wouldn't open. Was it just a locking mistake? Or is it only available in the summer? At breakfast, a petite waitress tried to explain something before we sat down, but she was wearing a mask and speaking so softly that I couldn't understand her. The once impressive breakfast buffet has lost its appeal. There was a guest at the front desk complaining about lack of explanation, could this also be due to COVID? "Don't hate the hotel because of COVID."

Location: The hotel is located south of JR Hakodate Station, past the morning market. If you take the streetcar, you can get off at the City Hall stop and it's right there. Store, Interior: This hotel is famous for its breakfast buffet. It competes with La Vista, which is located just south of it. I stayed at La Vista before, so this time I chose Hakodate Kokusai Hotel. The hotel consists of the West Wing, East Wing, and Main Building, which can be a bit complex. The hotel lobby and restaurant floor on the first floor are spacious and have an open feel. Food: The breakfast buffet is served at the restaurant Azelia on the first floor. If you have a plan with breakfast included, you will receive a breakfast voucher at check-in. You give the voucher to the restaurant staff and they will seat you. Due to the pandemic, there are alcohol disinfection measures upon entry, masks and gloves are required when taking the buffet. There is a diagram on the table showing the buffet layout, so you can go to your favorite section. The open kitchen prepares dishes like steak and omelets, but the steak was already cooked and placed out. The hotel was not very busy, probably only about 10% occupancy, so the buffet lacked its usual liveliness. The seafood bowl section had small portions, and you had to assemble your own bowl. In the past, I saw on TV that there were large bowls of salmon roe for self-serving, but that was not the case this time due to the quiet period and pandemic. Drinks: A variety of drinks were available. Service: There seemed to be more staff than guests. The service was good, but it felt a bit lonely without much energy. The private onsen on the 13th floor was a nice touch. I initially planned to stay at a cheaper hotel near the station and have breakfast at a local spot, but many places were closed in the morning, so I decided to stay at this hotel with a luxurious breakfast buffet and hot spring. During my visit, Goryokaku was temporarily closed, so I only visited Hakodate Mountain, which was quite windy and not very enjoyable. Winter travel to warm places is more suitable for me. I hope this review helps you with your restaurant choices.

I went to the much-awaited breakfast buffet in Hakodate. The breakfast that once ranked second nationwide was truly luxurious and filled with Hokkaido specialties. I started with a salad, with plenty of seaweed since I love it. There were also steak and Genghis Khan, so I had some meat in the morning. Surprisingly, the tofu was delicious, and I had seconds of the milk. I made myself a seafood bowl, with tasty salmon roe. The squid was also delicious! I decided to try the omelette since it was cooked beautifully. The mapo tofu seemed to be a highlight, so I tried it. It was good, but I could have skipped it. The mini-sized salt ramen was convenient since I was already full. I had a little dessert, a pudding and corn panna cotta. I'm sorry, but I didn't like the corn. The coffee to take back to the room was appreciated, especially since it was a local brand.
