[Shop Memo]
- Selected as one of the top 100 bread shops in the West in 2022 🎉
- Around 20 types of bread were available around 2 pm on Saturday.
[Items Tried]
- Kinako and Black Bean Bagel: ¥200 ⭐️ 4.0 + CP 0.5
It was served hot and fresh, and it was delicious! It was soft and fluffy.
- Fig Bagel: ¥200 ⭐️ 3.8 + CP 0.5
Even when it cooled down, it was still soft and had a nice chewy texture. The figs were cooked in brown sugar and red wine, giving it a unique taste.
- Cream Bread: ¥140 ⭐️ 3.3 + CP 0.3
It was fluffy, but a bit too sweet for my liking.
[Additional Information]
- Bread review: 167th shop
- Prices include tax.

I bought a white fig bagel with cream cheese and black pepper. The service was quick and polite! The bagel was very delicious. I think it was the best bagel I have ever eaten. The cream cheese was also a flavor I liked. I want to go back again.

I visited the bakery on Saturday morning. The shop is not very spacious, but they have a variety of bread besides bagels. I got a chocolate bagel to go. It had plenty of bitter chocolate inside the dough, not too sweet, and I enjoyed it until the last bite. Even though it was still morning, the shop was bustling with customers coming in one after another. It seems like you can make reservations, so you might be able to purchase without waiting too long.

Kinako black bean bagel, chewy with a nice black bean aroma. Chocolate bagel, chewy with plenty of chocolate flavor. An butter, raisin, just a delicious bread as usual. Is this shop really good for bagels? Bagels are top-notch.

I visited the store around noon on a weekday. There were about 4 groups inside and 2 people waiting outside. I didn't have to wait long to enter the store. I chose three items after some consideration: Chocolate Bagel for 200 yen, Cheese Bagel for 220 yen, and Cream Pan for 140 yen. I enjoyed them the next day. The Cheese Bagel had big cubes of cheese inside and the dough was chewy. The Chocolate Bagel had melted chocolate inside, maybe because it was baked in the oven. The Cream Pan was the best I've ever had. I will definitely go back to buy more. I'll also try the crunchy snack on the same day.

I got off at Karasuma Oike Station to buy Japanese sweets as souvenirs. To pass the time until the store opened, I stopped by the nearby Pan Hyakumeiten. It's a luxurious shop to visit on a whim (laughs). I couldn't resist buying and eating the "An to Kurichii" from their attractive lineup. The combination of the soft bread, the sweetness of the red bean paste, and the salty cream cheese is exquisite.

I happened to come across this place and decided to buy some items because I saw a lot of people going in. Later, I found out it was a famous bakery. I bought "Cabbage Ham," "Mentaiko Bread," "Hojicha Latte," "Milk Cream," and "Cream Bread." The Cabbage Ham tasted like the nostalgic ham rolls, the Hojicha Latte cream had a strong hojicha flavor, and the Milk Cream was not too sweet with a nice milk flavor. Most importantly, all the bread was delicious. Despite being small, the prices were reasonable, and I can see why so many people were coming in and out. There are some questionable famous bakeries out there, but this one is truly deserving of its reputation. I didn't even know they were famous for their bagels, so I would love to come back and try them out.

On the first day of my trip to Kyoto, around 9:30 am on Saturday, there were about 5 people waiting in line. They had a wide variety of bread, all looking delicious based on their names and appearance. I wanted to take my time looking at the menu, but there were so many people waiting behind me that I hurriedly made my selection. Since I was on a trip and couldn't freeze the bread, I decided to be modest in my purchases. I bought a plain bagel, a New Bird bagel, a Maple Mi, and a Paris Puri. The bagels had a slightly higher moisture content, making them easy to tear and chew without tiring my jaw. Personally, I prefer bagels that make my jaw tired, but these soft ones were also delicious. The Maple Mi was a bagel sandwich with cream cheese, maple, and walnuts, and the moist dough blended well with the filling. The New Bird was supposed to have a curry flavor, but I didn't really taste it. There was only a tiny bit of bacon in it. The Paris Puri had a crispy outer layer with a sausage inside, similar to a sausage roll. It was small and salty, making it a perfect snack in between eating sweet pastries. It's a shame that I couldn't reheat the bagels at home, as they would have tasted even better. The fact that they have bread for around 100 yen each is amazing. Overall, the bread seemed slightly smaller in size, but the variety made up for it.

I went to Flip Up bakery after a long time. I arrived around 3:30 PM and even though they didn't have the bread I wanted, there were still many customers coming in. I quickly picked out a muscat raisin bagel, a chocolate bagel, and one with cream cheese on top. I bought all three for a total of ¥200. The muscat raisin bagel was different from regular raisins, it was big and juicy! Delicious!! The chocolate bagel had a ring of slightly bitter chocolate in the center, also delicious! The cream cheese bagel was tasty with the cream cheese on top, but it lacked a punch in flavor. Maybe I should have gone for the blue cheese one instead? Overall, they were all delicious. I ate them with a butternut squash soup. Even though I randomly picked these three, they were all tasty! Flip Up bakery never disappoints.

I stopped by the second shop on the Kyoto Top 100 Stores tour! I heard that Kobe is a fierce battleground for bread, but I came to see how amazing Kyoto is. The bread is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside when baked! The bread displayed in the store seems to be elaborately made, yet the prices are low! Truly Kyoto! I will come back again!

New Bird is a famous bakery in Kyoto located at 292-2 Takoyakushi-cho, Oshikoji-dori, Muromachi Higashi-iru, Nakagyo-ku. They offer delicious bagels and anpan. The bagel with bacon and curry-flavored mayonnaise is a must-try, with its chewy texture that will leave you impressed. The anpan may be small but it is heavy and satisfying, with a perfect balance of sweet red bean paste and slightly hard bread. I visited on a Saturday around 2 pm and they had a wide variety of products available.

After leaving Tokuya, I stopped by famous stores like Gen Ryo Kakaku, known for their black shichimi, on my way to Hotel The Mitsui Kyoto where I was staying. I felt a little hungry, so I bought some bread at Flip Up. Although they are popular for their bagels, their sandwiches and regular bread are also delicious and chewy. I bought a sausage roll and a kinako (soybean flour) bread.

This is a bakery located along the Kissa Madragu. I almost passed by, but when I checked on Tabelog, I found out it's famous. I ended up buying four bagels. When I entered, there was no one, but after me, more and more people came in and it became crowded. It's a common strange phenomenon, but maybe it has that kind of power? lol I ate them at home and they were delicious. Thank you for the meal!

I have been wanting to try the bagels from Flip Up for a while now, but with Sundays being their day off, I never had the chance. However, I woke up early on a Saturday morning and arrived at the shop right when it opened at 7 am. There were already about 5 customers there, all middle-aged men for some reason. I bought the following three items for breakfast:
- Cherry Bagel (200 yen): A bagel with dried cherries soaked in liquor and white beans kneaded into the dough. It had a slightly sweet and sour taste, with a soft and pleasant texture. A great everyday bagel!
- Rum Raisin Bagel (300 yen): The bagel dough was the same as the others, but this one had a ton of raisins and a rich, sweet buttercream that paired perfectly. The bagel itself was mild, allowing the ingredients to shine without overpowering them. It needs to be refrigerated, so it might be difficult to buy while traveling, but I highly recommend it!
- Flipper (120 yen): Although it's a sweet treat, I bought it for breakfast. It's about 7 cm in size, perfect for when you want a little something sweet. It's more like a madeleine than a pancake, moist and perfect to enjoy with coffee. And at 120 yen, it's really a great deal. I thought the shop near Karasuma-Oike would be expensive, but with Flipper at 120 yen and bagels at 200 yen, it's quite affordable and easy to use for everyday. It's convenient for locals as well as those staying in the area. Most importantly, opening at 7 am is a big plus.

I went to a popular bakery in Kyoto, near Karasuma Oike station. Kyoto is known for its competitive bread scene. There were a lot of customers when I arrived at 11 o'clock. I bought various types of bread including bagels and cream bread. There were many soft bread options available. The bread remained soft even the next day. The cost performance was great, as I bought 6 pieces for less than 1000 yen. I definitely want to go back again.

At 2 o'clock on a weekday. Even at this time on a weekday, there were still plenty of options available. Although there were other choices besides bagels, I always end up buying a bagel when I come here. The bagels are fluffy and soft, and very delicious. It's sad that Cheer Up near Okazaki Park has closed, I wonder if they will open a second location. After this, I went to the Kyocera Museum of Art to see the permanent exhibition.

Cost performance and taste are both excellent! I love bagels and have been trying out famous shops all over Tokyo, but the bagels here are in the top 3 for me! They are filled with a chewy, moist texture, but the dough is soft and easy to eat. It doesn't feel like it's getting stuck in your throat. The bagels are only 200 yen, and even the sandwich options are around 300 yen, which is quite cheap. Despite the low price, every bread I try here is really delicious.

Saturday afternoon. Visited for breakfast the next morning. It was late, so I decided to get takeout from what was left. - Crunchy Crunchy-kun 130 yen: It was simple and easy to eat, with a taste similar to sugar-coated bread rolls. - New Bird 220 yen Next time, I want to try the popular bagels.

A bakery located in Karasuma Oike. It has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants on Tabelog. The area is a competitive battleground for bakeries with popular shops scattered all around. I visited on a weekday just after 11 am and had to wait outside for a bit. The shop is constantly busy with customers coming in. Inside the small shop, there were a variety of bread displayed, including freshly baked ones. The prices were quite reasonable, almost the same as convenience store bread. I bought one sweet bread and one savory bread. I had to eat in a hurry so I couldn't savor the taste properly, but the crispy bread disappeared in an instant due to its fluffiness. The fluffiness of the bread was more impressive than the crispy texture of the sugar. The CheeMayo had a strong flavor, and the chewy texture was very delicious. I enjoyed the CheeMayo bread so much that I want to try the Yama-meshi next time. Items purchased on this day: - Crispy Bread with Butter & Granulated Sugar ¥130 - CheeMayo ¥130 (Cheese mayonnaise on chewy mountain bread)

I visited a bakery known for its delicious bagels during my trip, but since I'm not a big fan of bagels, I only bought bread.
- Chocolate Crown: ¥280 - Covered in chocolate, very rich in chocolate
- Black Soybean: ¥220 - Packed with beans, very tasty
- Chestnut and Bacon: ¥250 - The sweetness of chestnuts is well balanced
- Macakin: ¥220 - A hard dessert-style bread
Kyoto has many delicious bakeries, so it might be difficult to say I will definitely go back when I visit again, but if I happen to pass by, I would definitely stop by and buy something.
