I used it for lunch on the first day of my trip to Hokkaido. I was lost among many sushi restaurants, but I chose this one as the classic choice. When I entered, there were many people waiting, and some gave up. I had made a reservation a month ago, so I was able to stick to my travel schedule. Although we were about 10 minutes late, they secured our seats for us. When we were seated at the counter, we were served together with the couple next to us. We ordered the Takumi course and the Hana course. The couple next to us seemed to have ordered the Gochisou set. The sushi chef silently prepared the dishes, so we had some time to spare. If you are hungry, you might prefer the Gochisou set with squid somen. By the time we finished our draft beer, about 20 minutes later, the sushi was served. We started with chutoro and toro. Then, one after another, the sushi was served. It was really delicious, especially the Tokishirazu, Bauhun uni, and Murasaki uni, which were rich and not usually available on the mainland. We even ordered more. The sushi was already seasoned, so you can enjoy the taste of the sushi itself. The sushi we had was different from the course content, so I felt that they change the ingredients based on the season. In any case, we were satisfied with the content. Counter seats are the best at sushi restaurants. If you sit at a table, the experience may be different. We had 3 draft beers for two people, and the total payment was just over 10,000 yen. I think reservations are essential for travelers.

Visit date: Thursday, March 3, 2022, around 2:00 PM. This is a long-established sushi restaurant with a history of over 80 years. Otaru, a famous sushi spot, has over 100 sushi restaurants. Among them, the well-known store is "Otaru Masazushi." Last winter, I stayed in Otaru for a long time, but at that time, it seemed expensive and had a high threshold for me. I wanted to eat sushi in Otaru again after a long time, so I took a train for about 40 minutes from Sapporo and visited for the first time. It's a quite prominent large restaurant along Sushi Street, or rather a four-story building dedicated to sushi. I have passed by the front of the store many times. In a state of tension, I walked to the impressive entrance and entered. I waited for about 5 minutes in the waiting area at the back. I was guided to the counter seats on the first floor and left my coat. The attention to detail, casual small talk, and excellent customer service were impressive. It was the end of lunch on a weekday, and there were only two groups of customers. There is a live feeling with the chef in front of you. I briefly looked at the menu, but ordering one by one was a high hurdle for me, so I had already decided what to order by checking online in advance. ◎Hokkai no Katsu Oomare ¥605 ◎Masazushi Set ¥3850 Total ¥4455. I wanted to start with a beer, but it was close to 2:30 PM, and I couldn't stay long. ◇The Masazushi specialty, Ikasoumen, comes with the set. Ikasoumen is the most popular menu at Masazushi. In a set, it's a mini size, but you can enjoy both sushi and Ikasoumen, so I recommend it. Mix the slightly sweet special sauce with egg yolk and luxurious sea urchin. Then dive the translucent squid in it. This way of eating seems to have been inspired by local fishermen, and I was impressed by the melting taste. The tofu salad has plenty of sesame dressing, and the tofu is extremely delicious! When the timing is right, the chef in front of me starts making sushi. The splendid knife skills and refined movements are enjoyable to watch. ◎Madai (red seabream) ◎Amaebi (sweet shrimp) ◎Hotate (scallop) ◎Shinko (young herring) ◎Salmon ◎Ikura (salmon roe) ◎Chutoro (medium fatty tuna) The sushi is served in this order from the top, with a brief explanation for each. I enjoyed the conversation with the chef, who talked casually about seasonal information and the history of Masazushi. They make sushi one by one at your pace, so you can savor the sushi carefully. It's also delicious to eat sushi with your hands without using chopsticks, right? ('∇') The freshness of the ingredients, as well as the harmony with the vinegar rice, is excellent. It holds together but gently unravels as soon as you put it in your mouth. The skilled technique is evident even to an amateur. Finally, I finished with a miso soup with rock seaweed. ◆Summary "It's not a high-end store but a popular one." This modest statement from the chef in front of me was impressive. If you don't drink alcohol, you can surprisingly enjoy the authentic "Ezo Maezushi" that brings out the flavor of the ingredients in the 3000 yen range. Payment with PayPay is possible. The staff's service when entering the store was very good. It may sound exaggerated, but I felt like I received wonderful customer service after a long time. The food was also very delicious. The photo shows part of the Masu Sushi set. It was crowded during lunchtime, so it may take some time for the dishes to arrive, so I recommend going with some extra time!

After 33 years, I visited the restaurant and found that it had transformed into a large and impressive establishment. I arrived without a reservation and had to wait for about 30 minutes before being seated. I was led to the counter on the first floor. I ordered the chef's choice of 12 pieces of sushi, requesting smaller portions of rice. However, the chef recommended that I try the regular size, and I was glad I did. The sushi was elegantly presented and perfectly seasoned, making soy sauce unnecessary. The fresh sea urchin had no fishy taste and melted in my mouth. I left the restaurant feeling completely satisfied. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I received the premium course which started with harvesting bafun sea urchin. We compared bafun and purple sea urchin, and the dish was generously garnished with shime sea urchin. The grilled dish featured Ezo abalone with a perfect balance of tenderness and chewiness. The squid noodles were served in a broth with quail egg yolk and dissolved purple sea urchin, creating a delicious and unique flavor.

The sushi was delicious, and the customer service was excellent. The staff were welcoming and attentive, making the dining experience enjoyable. The restaurant has plenty of parking spaces, which is convenient. They even offered candy sushi as a treat for children, which they loved. Overall, it was a great choice among many sushi restaurants.

I visited Masazushi on Sushiya Street in Otaru and was amazed by the large building-like structure with rooms on the 1st to 4th floors. I had made a reservation but still had to wait for 45 minutes when I arrived at the reserved time, so I think reservations are necessary for this place! I opted for the chef's choice course and enjoyed just the right amount of delicious food! The chawanmushi had a slightly sweet flavor and the squid somen with sea urchin sauce was excellent!

I arrived on Saturday around 5 pm without a reservation. There were already people inside when the restaurant opened, so I waited in the waiting area for about an hour. I ordered a 12-piece sushi set and some Japanese sake. The sake was average, but the sushi was really delicious. Especially the sea urchin, salmon roe, and seared fatty tuna were excellent! Ordering was easy as it was done through a tablet.

All the dishes were impressive as expected. In particular, the herring sushi was exceptionally delicious. I felt overwhelmed by the impressive atmosphere from the entrance, and the attentive service of being escorted out while having my name called. Truly a hospitality that made me vow to return again.

Nihonbashi Takashimaya and other famous stores occasionally have pop-up shops, so I decided to check out the exterior. It was hot, so I thought of going inside here. The wait time was displayed as 30-45 minutes, but we only waited for 5 minutes with 3 people. It depends on the timing. The food was consistently delicious. They have a shop in Tokyo as well, so I got a shop card.

I ended up sitting at a table because there were no seats available at the counter. I ordered a sushi course, and it was served on a single plate. I think sushi tastes better when it's freshly made at the counter. The fish was fresh, but it wasn't amazing. It seems like a restaurant aimed at tourists.

I thoroughly enjoyed the sushi in Otaru, more than enough! In addition to the course, I added 5-6 extra pieces of sushi that I wanted to try. The communication with the sushi chef who made the sushi was very enjoyable, and I learned a lot about the sushi and fish situation in Hokkaido! During this communication, I was served seasonal Murasaki Uni and salmon that were not on the menu, and I was very satisfied! I highly recommend those who have reserved a counter seat to talk to the chef and ask for seasonal items! The only downside is that you can't order sake by the glass.

I was able to make a reservation for Sunday lunch a few days in advance. The exterior of the restaurant seemed intimidating, but the atmosphere inside was welcoming. I ordered the plum dish, which was delicious with ingredients like medium fatty tuna and scallops. However, the portion size was small for the price.

I was not expecting to be able to dine in as it was a sudden visit during lunchtime, but thanks to the staff's consideration, I was able to sit at the counter! Thank you so much! I enjoyed delicious sushi! I think if I had eaten this in Tokyo, it would have cost more than double! I also got to taste unique dishes that are only found in Otaru, which made me incredibly happy! I had a great time enjoying delicious sushi and engaging in fun conversations. I will definitely visit again when I come to Otaru! Thank you for the meal!

I made a reservation in advance and visited the sushi restaurant on Sushi Street. The building exceeded my expectations, it was like a big office building. Personally, I prefer smaller restaurants. Instead of sitting at the counter where the chef prepares the sushi in front of you, we were seated in a private room on the second floor. We ordered a variety of sushi and zangi. The sushi was okay, but some pieces had small bones in them and were a bit dry. The rice was too compact and didn't break apart easily in the mouth. It seemed like the restaurant mainly caters to tourists, so it's understandable, but it was a bit disappointing. I would recommend sitting at the counter on the first floor if possible.

Hagi Otaru is a seafood restaurant that didn't leave a strong impression on me personally. It gave me more of a herring impression rather than a seafood one, along with an artistic and dessert vibe. I had made a reservation a month in advance, but the day before the reservation date at 11:15, I received a missed call and started worrying. I thought maybe they mistook my reservation for the previous day or that I had been considered a no-show for the reservation. I arrived at the restaurant at 10:40, and despite the late confirmation, the restaurant was open, and I was seated at 11:00. The course started 15 minutes after being seated, with the Hagi course consisting of 7 pieces of sushi. The quality of the sushi was excellent, and each piece was delicious. The service was also good, with a nice touch of offering clear soup. Overall, it was a pleasant dining experience, and I enjoyed the meal.

During my trip to Otaru, I ordered a 12-piece sushi set for lunch. Every piece of sushi was fresh and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture, very delicious. The Bafun Uni was especially amazing! They even took a commemorative photo for us at the end, making it a great memory of our trip.

The customer service at the top-notch restaurant is impeccable! If I were to eat it in Osaka, the squid sashimi alone would probably cost around 3000 yen. The sushi rice was on the larger side, so it didn't pair well with alcohol, but the overwhelming deliciousness made up for it. I have eaten a variety of fresh sea urchin, but for the first time, I experienced the taste of blood in it.

I decided to have sushi in Otaru after a long time and visited this place on Sushi Street. I ordered a reasonably priced set with a few additions. We were seated and ordered, and soon after, yuzu sake and tofu salad arrived. The dishes kept coming at the right pace without any gaps. As expected from a long-established restaurant, the service, food, and overall experience were excellent.
