During the Bon festival, I visit my father's grave in Asahikawa and often have lunch at this restaurant. I always order their lunch menu item, kishimen, which uses the soup from their chanko nabe. The soup has a rich flavor that I find unique and delicious. Despite the hot weather in Asahikawa today, the restaurant was comfortably air-conditioned, allowing me to enjoy my meal. I have eaten here many times, and I highly recommend this dish. Thank you for another great meal!

The basic Chanko Kishimen for 1,150 yen has improved with the saltiness reduced, making it more delicious and easy to eat. I had the Super Yuyu Set (cold Kishimen) with shrimp tempura for 2,250 yen, and the dipping sauce was not too salty with a good dashi flavor, very tasty. However, the sushi in the set was disappointing as the rice easily fell apart when picked up with chopsticks, possibly due to a new staff member practicing.

Fuji of the North. A restaurant run by the third-generation owner, with former sumo wrestler Kitanofuji Katsuaki as an uncle. The place was crowded during lunchtime, as expected. Luckily, we were able to get a table without having to wait too long. The prices were a bit on the higher side compared to the average lunch prices in Asahikawa. The lunch menu mainly consisted of kishimen, with prices exceeding 1000 yen. Personally, I feel that kishimen should be more of a commoner's food, but with prices reaching 1150 yen, it does feel a bit expensive. The curry rice was priced at 880 yen, while the roast beef bowl was 1650 yen. If given the choice between the two at the same price, I would probably go for the roast beef nowadays. The kishimen I had was 1150 yen, and I also ordered a mini curry rice for 350 yen, totaling 1400 yen. The broth used in the chanko hot pot was rich and flavorful, with a main salt flavor. Topped with seaweed, chicken, green onions, and sesame, it was a satisfying meal. The kishimen noodles were made in Nagoya and had a slightly softer texture. I prefer them a bit firmer, so I might ask for that next time. The flat noodles had a unique mouthfeel, different from udon noodles. The chicken on top of the noodles was flavorful, and even a small amount made a difference. I also tried the mini curry rice for the first time, which came in a stylish dish and was surprisingly filling for the price. The curry had a strong tomato flavor, with a thick consistency. Overall, it was a good meal, and I would consider ordering the curry rice again next time.

I received a message on LINE. Hey, when are you going to take me out on a date? I've been waiting for you to contact me for so long. Are you cheating on me? So, on this day, we went on a long-awaited date. The meeting place was here. It's a restaurant where we had dinner the other day, run by the nephew of former sumo wrestler Kitano Fuji. The person I was messaging on LINE had been here at night before, but had never experienced their lunch menu, so we decided to have our date here. See you later... definitely cheating! Hey, how long are you going to talk on the phone? Can I go home now? And then... without saying anything, Horiko hastily hung up the phone. No, I'm not cheating... but for some reason, Horiko seemed to panic and end the call even though she hadn't said anything. The lunch menu is a bit on the pricey side. Sets with steak make you think it might be worth it. For the common people, it's a bit out of reach. Lunchtime is a time to prepare for prices that might make you hesitate. The main dish for lunch here is kishimen, a type of noodle. But, of course, it's over 1000 yen. I decided to go for the normal kishimen for 1100 yen. The lunch menu is limited to certain items available only during lunchtime. But... nowadays, you have to be prepared for lunch prices, and once it goes over 1000 yen, it's a bit of a dilemma. Maybe I'll have to skip dinner if it goes over 1500 yen... but I won't actually do it. Hey, did you order the same thing? Horiko asked. Hey, did you order the same thing? I ordered the chicken kishimen, but... I went for the normal kishimen. Oh, if it's not the same, I don't like it... Horiko looked a bit lonely. The only difference is the amount of chicken, probably, as the chicken kishimen costs 1250 yen. I assured her that it's probably the same, just that there's a different amount of chicken on top. It's like ordering a chashu ramen. So, I'm sure it's the same. She was delighted and immediately started eating. Of course, we also ordered rice. But... from here on, it was as fast as always. If you're not paying attention, you might miss the moment of eating, so this time, I tried to watch. Kishimen. The kishimen served at the end of the chanko-nabe dinner. But, strangely, this is the specialty here. It all started when Mr. Kitano Fuji was attracted by the deliciousness of kishimen during his tour, or so I heard. I've had many opportunities to eat it since I was a child because my mother is from Nagoya and we have many relatives there. It's not available in many restaurants in Asahikawa, so it's quite valuable. The first time I saw it. I always finish it in no time, so I've never seen Horiko eating it. So, this time, I pretended to eat while watching her... I saw her eating for the first time! Oh, so this is how she eats... In fact, when she saw me watching her eat once, she said it was embarrassing and asked me to stop taking pictures of her eating. Since then, she has never let me take a picture of her eating. And from now on, it was just a moment of slurping... she finished it in no time! That took 1 minute and 3 seconds. Horiko doesn't seem to care about the heat. This is undoubtedly delicious. There's also okayu, a rice porridge that is served as a closer for chanko. So, it's okay to dip the rice and eat it. The chicken broth is rich, and the slightly fatty taste adds to the flavor. Although the flavor is a bit strong, it's a good choice for the winter season. And... we left satisfied. Lunchtime passed in the blink of an eye. Hey, when are we going next?? she asked. But, I'm a bit busy right now... I replied. How about we at least decide on a place to go next time? Well... the most important thing is what we want to eat at the time, right? So... I'll be waiting for your message. And with a lonely look, Horiko left.

Forget the year-end party. There are hardly any year-end events called "year-end parties". Will there be more of these events next year? It's a splendid building. An old-fashioned building that looks quite impressive during the day and at night. A long-established shop that has been in business for over 80 years. The current third-generation owner, the uncle, used to be a sumo wrestler named Kitano Fuji Katsuaki, who often appears as a commentator in sumo matches. I wonder if he still comes to Asahikawa from time to time. The menu here, of course, includes chanko-nabe. The names vary depending on the ingredients. "Kunoe" is probably the name of a sumo stable. There are yokozuna, ozeki, komusubi, but no sekiwake, haha. You can add various toppings. If you need more, you can add them and simmer again. They will also add more soup for you. By the way, it's quite difficult to eat crab in chanko-nabe. It's hot, hard to peel, and hard to talk with... One dish besides chanko-nabe. There are other menu items available. They are light snacks to munch on while waiting for the hot pot to cook. The rice dishes include onigiri and zosui set. For some reason, there was "pickles" written among the rice dishes... Delicious way to enjoy. Don't grind the sesame too much. The instructions on how to add the ingredients to the chanko-nabe are written, but the staff will do it for you, so no problem. As for the kishimen and cabbage, add them later... Putting kishimen in first is not something you hear often, but... well, it's not necessary to read this one, haha. First of all... it's not a year-end party, but a year-end dining event. So I had a highball for the first time in a while. Along with it, we got vinegar miso-dressed appetizer. The wakame and udo were delicious. Two in one serving Chicken tataki and komusubi chanko. They came together in one serving. But I couldn't help but doubt it. Are there really two portions of vegetables in one serving...? When they are together, does it seem a bit less? I sometimes get a little paranoid, haha. Chicken tataki Cut this into appropriate sizes and put it in the soup. Then you have a delicious, homemade meatball. It's not round, but the taste is the same. It was quite tasty. Fried octopus 750 yen I don't eat octopus fried often. I think I've only eaten it a few times. I don't order it often... The octopus was cut in large pieces and had a good elasticity, it was delicious. Shiretoko chicken zangi 1100 yen Marinate and coat with flour before frying. So it's fried chicken. It's made with Shiretoko chicken, a brand of chicken, but after eating it, I didn't think, "Oh, it's Shiretoko chicken!" The taste was a bit light. Horse sashimi (lean meat) 1600 yen Horse sashimi is expensive, isn't it? It's quite pricey. And the portion is not that large. But... it's delicious. Sweet, no smell, this is tasty. I haven't eaten horse sashimi in a while, but it's still delicious. Mozuku seaweed 630 yen I eat mozuku seaweed quite often. But I usually buy the 3-pack for 200 yen. This is my first time eating such high-quality mozuku, but... wow, it's delicious! The seasoning of vinegar is just right, and each strand of mozuku is thick. I learned for the first time that there are many different types of mozuku. Now, the chanko-nabe. I don't dislike it. But I don't love it either. The one I dislike the most is shabu-shabu. I don't like it because the taste gradually fades away. So I prefer eating it with a soup that has a strong broth. I don't usually eat a lot of vegetables, so it's nice to have them in the chanko-nabe. Kishimen Kishimen for lunch at Kitano Fuji. It's about once a year... But I like kishimen. My mother is from Nagoya, so I've been eating it since I was a child. The flat noodles have a nice texture. Here it comes! And there it is! The zosui set is here. Two servings of rice in a teacup. Add egg, seaweed, and condiments. There was something black in the condiments... Okay, let's pretend we didn't see that, haha. Seaweed... you're supposed to tear it Torn seaweed is better than putting it in whole, haha. Well, I put it in the person's teacup next to me because there was something mixed in it...

I felt like having udon this morning, but suddenly I thought about kishimen! I've only had it once before, at a chanko place. So I decided to visit this restaurant. It's been about 20 years since I last came here, maybe even longer. Back then, there were about 14 of us, a group of nurses, in a mixer. Looking back, why did we have chanko at a mixer? Haha. I arrived at the restaurant around 12:30. I couldn't tell how many customers were there since the place is big and complex. But there were quite a few. I wanted the normal kishimen with chanko flavor. I hadn't had breakfast, so I went for the Super Yuyu Set that comes with sushi. It arrived in about 10 minutes, quite fast. I couldn't remember the taste at all, but compared to a certain chanko place in Toyooka, this one was lighter. And the soup was scorching hot, which was tough for someone like me with a sensitive tongue. But the taste was good! The sushi was just okay, nothing special. I finished everything except for the soup, and then I thought about dessert. As I started eating the dessert, the waitress suddenly took away the tray with the empty plates. I wanted to finish the soup first, but I couldn't say anything in time. I wish they would at least confirm before taking away the empty plates. It felt disappointing. I wish they would ask if they can take the empty plates before doing it, even if they say they will. It happened so quickly. The people around me also seemed to have their plates taken away as soon as they finished. Hmm, it just didn't sit right with me.

Since I was a child, my family has always visited Hokkaido Fuji. Today, when my parents said we were going to Hokkaido Fuji, I got really excited, although that memory feels distant. I made a reservation four days ago and this time we requested a tatami room instead of a table. Usually, I order my favorite hot pot and zangi, but this time I decided to try the 6000 yen course with all-you-can-drink option. The course turned out to be quite substantial. There were many drink options for the all-you-can-drink service. First, I had a draft beer. Then I tried the mozuku vinegar, which had a nice crunch and was delicious. Oh, the portion seems a bit large? Soon, the chanko-nabe (sumo wrestler's stew) was brought to the table. While the staff was preparing it, I ground some sesame seeds in a suribachi (grinding bowl) and prepared the sesame sauce. The sashimi included tuna, sea bream, and squid. The squid sashimi was served with nori (seaweed), which is a common sight in Hokkaido. Finally, the hot pot was ready! I poured the soup into the suribachi with ground sesame seeds and started with the pumpkin dumplings before they got overcooked. "This soup is amazing!" my partner exclaimed. I know, right? It's so good, Hokkaido Fuji is unique. I was moved by the taste of Hokkaido Fuji's soup after a long time. The chicken soup, simmered for many hours, paired perfectly with the ground sesame seeds, creating an unparalleled soup. I enjoyed the hot pot, and then came the eel ankake chawanmushi (steamed egg custard with eel). It was served in a mini bowl and was delicious. I had never tried eel chawanmushi before. Very tasty. As I was quite full from the hot pot, I thought it was time for the kishimen (flat noodles) to finish the meal. But then, a steak for one person was served! Wait, steak at a hot pot restaurant? Unexpected, but the taste was undeniable. However, I was already full, so I asked if I could take it home. "Sure, no problem!" they said. Yay, I can relax now. It's truly heartwarming that they want you to eat until you're full. I enjoyed the steak with my mother at home later. Lastly, they offered a zosui (rice porridge) set. Can you eat it? Yes, please! I have room for zosui! After the kishimen, zosui, dessert, and more, I was so full. Happy. Hokkaido Fuji also offers takeout, and they recently started participating in the furusato nozei (hometown tax payment) system, so this winter, I will be ordering from them. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

Although it's May, Asahikawa is still cold... Wanting to warm up both physically and mentally, I made a reservation here and braved the freezing rain to get here. It's a bit of a walk from Asahikawa Station, but not too far. We had a reservation for 5:00 PM and were seated in a private booth. We were told we only had 90 minutes, so our group of drinkers reluctantly decided to forgo our usual bottles and ordered a variety of hot pots instead. After some deliberation, we settled on the Shiretoko chicken hot pot for one person and two orders of chicken sashimi. We weren't sure if one serving would be enough, so we decided to start with that and add more if needed. The hot pot arrived with burdock, Shiretoko chicken thigh meat, Chinese cabbage, leeks, chrysanthemum greens, carrots, tofu, and wheat noodles. Was this really just for one person? It turned out we made the right call by ordering just one serving. We carefully followed the instructions on how to cook the hot pot and eagerly awaited the finished product while sipping on sake from Takasago Sake Brewery. When it was finally ready, we dug in! The soup, simmered for two days, was thick and rich with the umami flavor of chicken. However, it was a bit salty, so more vegetables would have been nice. The Shiretoko chicken was generously portioned and delicious, with no hint of any unpleasant odor. The burdock added a nice depth of flavor. The soup was quite light, so it's best to enjoy it early on to preserve the texture. The chicken sashimi was tender and incredibly tasty. As we ate, we added more soup, burdock, and pork. We finished off with a bit of wheat noodles. Yum! Finally, I was able to add the chrysanthemum greens that I had avoided earlier. All in all, a delicious meal!

Eating chanko nabe at a restaurant was actually my first time. When the huge pot arrived, I was super surprised! The ingredients were piled up like Mount Fuji, which was another surprise! Grating the sesame seeds by myself and pouring rich chicken broth over it created an amazing aroma and taste! I wanted to eat crab, so I ordered the sumo wrestler chanko with various ingredients. However, I was disappointed that the crab I was looking forward to was frozen, making it quite difficult to eat once it was in the pot. The cod I was also looking forward to was too fatty, and the broth wasn't cooked enough. Surprisingly, the vegetables and pumpkin dumplings that I wasn't expecting were delicious! The additional chicken meatballs were juicy and super tasty. I ordered three servings, and they piled a mountain of kishimen noodles at the bottom, which were incredibly delicious. I definitely want to go back to the chanko nabe restaurant!

This is a review of a rare "Chanko Nabe" restaurant in Asahikawa. They serve delicious "Kishimen" for lunch, with various flavors to choose from. I chose the "Yuyu Set" (1,450 yen including tax) which includes sushi, dessert, and a drink. I chose iced coffee as my drink. The restaurant has a coupon on Tabelog, so I showed it to the staff and got an extra ice cream after the meal. The food arrived in about 10 minutes. The Kishimen here is really delicious. The soup has a chicken flavor and is piping hot. The sesame flavor is also nice. The chewy Kishimen noodles go well with the chicken soup. The ingredients include chicken, seaweed, and green onions, simple but delicious. The sushi was 3 pieces (there is also a set with 6 pieces). Tuna, scallop, and squid. The vinegar flavor in the sushi was a bit weak, but overall satisfying. The drink is served after the meal, and for dessert, there was pound cake on the plate along with the ice cream I got from the coupon. It was a delicious lunch!

Sakuraya, located near the northern foot of Mt. Fuji, serves incredibly delicious curry kishimen. Priced at 1200 yen, this dish features a rich curry flavor with a deep umami taste. You can taste the broth and the use of tomatoes, along with large pieces of chicken that leave you fully satisfied. In the past, it used to be served as a set meal with rice, but now just this dish alone fills you up. This curry kishimen is so delicious that I want to eat it every week. It's also great for curing a hangover. Thank you for the meal!

Completely unexpectedly, I ended up in Asahikawa on a drive that was supposed to be just a little outing. After considering what to eat for lunch, we decided to try the "kishimen" here. It's been about 12 years since I last came here. The lunch kishimen here has always been popular, and I have always had the image that it's always crowded. We arrived around 1 pm, but it was full. Since it's a holiday, there's nothing we can do about it. So, we ordered a non-alcoholic beer, "tori kishimen" for myself, and "kishimen" for my partner. When comparing the two, the amount of chicken and ingredients were slightly different. When we tasted it, we remembered the flavor. The kishimen noodles in the soup, which tasted like ramen with a strong pepper flavor, were plentiful and delicious, so we finished every last drop of the soup. I was so satisfied and full. I heard that the chanko nabe here is even more delicious, so I'll come back again someday.

North Fuji is as delicious as ever. The staff are very friendly towards children, making it a safe place to eat. Even though my child can only just sit on their own, there are small chairs available for them to use. I was able to feed my baby while they sat comfortably. Whenever I come to Asahikawa, I always make sure to stop by North Fuji. Thank you for the wonderful meal! ♩

I'm in Asahikawa for work and need to head back to Sapporo soon. I had lunch quickly with my subordinate who is from Asahikawa. When I asked where to eat, they wanted to have Kishimen at Hokkai no Fuji, a place we used to frequent. It was recently opened and there were about 5-6 cars parked outside. We got a dessert as a gift by adding them on LINE. We ordered the parent and child kishimen for 1,300 yen. It arrived in about 10 minutes and looked quite oily. It was piping hot! The delicious chicken soup with the soft kishimen was irresistible. It had plenty of sesame seeds, silky beaten egg, and tender chicken. The soup and fat mixed well with the kishimen. It was so nostalgic and delicious. It was hard to eat quickly due to the heat. Once it cooled down a bit, I finished it all. It was a satisfying meal. Thank you for the delicious food.

Sakuraya is popular for its affordable "lunch set" on regular days. I remember waiting for a table a few times when it was crowded, so I decided to check if reservations were possible just in case. Unfortunately, reservations are not available for lunch menu items. However, you can reserve a table if you order the hot pot, so we secured a table to avoid waiting. I had only tried Sakuraya's "chanko-nabe" during evening parties, so I was curious to see how it would be for lunch. The "Kokonoe Chanko" costs 4300 yen per person and can be ordered individually. We also decided to try some sushi from Sakuraya, which I had only had in a set before. I wanted to order just the "kishimen" noodles, but since they were included in the hot pot, I went ahead with it. The restaurant was very busy as expected, with many customers waiting for lunch menu items. We were seated in a private room at the back and waited for our hot pot. We were provided with small mortar bowls for grinding sesame seeds, as we planned to enjoy chanko with and without sesame. The hot pot arrived first, with only the broth in a clay pot which was then heated. The sushi arrived, and we enjoyed it slowly while waiting for the hot pot to cook. The sushi was fresh, and I asked for it without squid and octopus, which I don't like as sushi toppings. The wait for the hot pot was quite long, but when it finally arrived, the staff served us efficiently. We covered the pot and waited for a while before enjoying the delicious kishimen noodles. Overall, the lunch hot pot was good, but I still prefer having it for dinner. The staff were all very friendly and apologized for the long wait, but I didn't mind. It was a pleasant dining experience.

Even though I know it's a restaurant known for its chanko cuisine, I always end up coming here for lunch udon. The smooth texture of the udon, different from the kishimen in Aichi, and the richness of the chicken broth are appealing. It's a delicious taste that becomes addictive! But next time, I really want to try the hot pot properly! The staff are also very friendly, and when they saw I had a baby, they brought over a blanket, saying it must be cold.

One of the highlights of chanko-nabe is the finishing touch of kishimen noodles. This restaurant offers it for lunch. It can get crowded after opening, but there are plenty of seats so you won't have to wait outside, and the food is served fairly quickly. This time, I ordered the tempura bowl and kishimen noodle set. The chanko soup, as expected from a specialty shop, is rich in flavor and perfectly seasoned with salt. The taste is consistently good, which is comforting. The tempura bowl also has a refined flavor and is quite good. Delicious food comes at a price, and while the portion size may not be the best value compared to other places, considering the taste, the value is significantly good. Thank you for the meal today.

I visit here about once a year. I love the curry kishimen here! There are plenty of seats, so you don't have to worry about not finding a place to sit, but the parking lot in front of the store is small and it can get crowded, so there may be a bit of a wait. The chewy udon is also good, but it's nice to have kishimen once in a while too.

Local free paper had information on a special set that caught my interest, so I decided to visit ○○ya-san, even though they don't serve ○○. This time, it was a chanko nabe restaurant, but they don't serve chanko nabe! The paper didn't mention the duration, just that it was a summer limited edition, so I asked when I arrived if they were still offering the "cooling set" and they said yes. The "cooling set" costs 1280 yen and includes: - 1 glass of draft beer - Assorted sashimi (3 types, changes daily) - Assorted zangi and potato fries The beer was served in a generous medium-sized glass. The sashimi of the day included tuna, sweet shrimp, and squid, along with daikon, carrot, and cucumber. The wasabi was real grated wasabi, not the paste. The zangi was large and a bit thick on the batter, a bit chewy, and seemed to be made with foreign frozen meat. The potato fries were a bit undercooked and hard. When I went to pay, I noticed that the price was different from the information in the free paper. When I asked about it at the register, they kindly honored the original price of 1280 yen. It turns out the special set was only available on weekdays from May 8th to the end of July 2019, so please take note of that. I also noticed a "adult kakigori" made with Dassai sake on the menu, which seemed intriguing.

Asahikawa on this day is already considered summer by society, but it's a bit chilly. At times like this, I feel like going here and eating something warm. Not that I'm going to eat hot pot, though. LOL. The main store of Hokkai Fuji Sakuraya has a nice old-fashioned atmosphere. Speaking of Hokkai Fuji, he has been appearing multiple times during sumo match commentary recently. The current owner is the third generation and is said to be the nephew of former yokozuna Hokkai Fuji Katsuaki. I wonder if the nephew is now the owner as the head of the store? Does the uncle come to Asahikawa a few times a year? Anyway, Hokkai Fuji, now only has this main store. Do you like kishimen noodles? What rank do you think it will be today? If it looks delicious, please click the "↓" button! ⇒ Please try clicking it once! Lunch menu includes seasonal limited-time menu. However, this place generally has slightly higher prices. Well, they must be using carefully selected ingredients and such. Prices like 1400 yen or 1750 yen for lunch are hesitating for common people. Once it goes over 1000 yen, you hesitate for a moment, right? Then give up, right? LOL. Here it is, after all. The lineup of kishimen noodles. However, the normal kishimen noodles are a little over 990 yen, and if you add toppings, it will be over 1100 yen. Furthermore, if you make it a set meal, be prepared for a 220 yen increase. Limited and new menu. A menu limited to 10 servings per day. Set of two small rice bowls and small kishimen noodles. Well, I didn't ask because I thought there wouldn't be enough time for me to go. The new menu is the Fire Pot Style Kishimen Noodles. A bit pricey, but it's intriguing. I ordered the Fire Pot Style Kishimen Noodles for 1200 yen. When you mention fire pot, it's a spicy hot pot dish that is quite famous in China. That spiciness... It's quite sharp... But... When I tasted the soup... Huh... There's no punch... And there's a little spiciness... But it's different from the taste of the fire pot I've had before... Well, the taste may change when you eat it with the noodles. But... The taste seems a bit blurry... Or... I can't figure out the direction... There's no depth in the taste... It's like they tried to make spicy food gentle, but it ended up feeling like they just added more chili peppers to the normal kishimen noodles. There's no punch... And... The taste of the broth...??? I tried the kishimen noodles... But... The taste is kind of blurry... Or... I can't figure out the direction... There's no depth in the taste... It's like they tried to make spicy food gentle, but it ended up feeling like they just added more chili peppers to the normal kishimen noodles. It costs 1200 yen... But... Although it's not to my taste... The chefs probably consider it their masterpiece... It's just not my preference... Curry Kishimen Noodles Set Meal The broth of the normal kishimen noodles is delicious. It has a strong collagen taste with a saltiness from chicken bones. The fat content is not overpowering... In terms of a change of pace, there's this curry, which I've had a few times and I like this taste. It's not too spicy and it emphasizes the curry flavor. The taste of the broth is also firm... It goes well with rice. It's a safe choice. In terms of my personal preference, I would like the curry to be a bit richer and thicker... But I guess this level is just right for a soup dish like this. I plan to finish by mixing the rice in, so I prefer the curry to be stronger. I like the taste. However, the kishimen noodles are a bit soft. I always forget to ask for firmer noodles... And when I think about it, the curry kishimen noodles set meal costs 1420 yen. I won't be able to go for a while... LOL. Thank you for the meal. ⇒◇Hokkai Fuji - I don't really like the commentary itself LOL ◇Definitely want to go in the summer - but can't go - teaser
