It is an Italian restaurant located on Sanjo Street. The owner chef, Mr. Mori, uses seasonal ingredients and incorporates elements of Kyoto in the dishes. The restaurant mainly offers a la carte dishes and can also be used as a wine bar. It opened in August 2007 and is located about 2-3 minutes from Sanjo Station and about 5 minutes from Kyoto City Hall Station. It is situated on the 3rd floor of Sanjo Kiya-cho Building II at the corner where Sanjo Street and Kiya-cho Street intersect. I visited at night, made a reservation through LINE for a seat. The staff was friendly and welcoming, which left a good impression. When I arrived, I was greeted at the entrance and shown to my seat. The atmosphere was cozy and comfortable, with seating options including two 4-person counter seats and two 4-person tables. The restaurant seemed to be popular among local customers and had a relaxed vibe. I was seated at the counter in front of the kitchen, where I could see the chef at work and engage in conversation. Mr. Mori was friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The staff were also cheerful and pleasant. The menu consisted of a variety of a la carte dishes (prices include tax). The options for appetizers, pasta, main dishes, and desserts were all appealing. I ordered the following dishes (prices include tax) and a glass of white wine, SANT'ANDREA Dune (¥1,200). ● Baby Leaf Salad with Parmigiano and Tomato (¥1,820) - Sweet tomatoes hidden under baby leaf salad with a balsamic vinegar accent. ● Carpaccio of Marinated Fish (¥2,800) - Carpaccio of fish, deep-fried white shrimp, Italian parsley, steamed clams in wine, scallions, and vinegar citrus. A delicious assortment of favorites. The fish was crispy, the white shrimp fragrant, and the vinegar citrus refreshing. The pasta broth was made with kombu, giving it a Kyoto twist. ● Pasta with Whitebait and Seaweed (Half portion, ¥1,000) - Whitebait prepared boiled and grilled, with a seaweed aroma. ● Tortino of White Fish (¥2,400) - Sautéed white fish layered with crispy fried potato slices. Served with okra, bell pepper, edamame, and scallions. Enjoy with sour cream and salt. The potatoes were crispy, the fish tender. ● Pasta with Tomato Sauce, Basil, and Buffalo Mozzarella (Half portion, ¥1,300) - A classic combination. I chose thick noodles for a chewy texture. ● Double Espresso (¥420) - The single and double shots are the same price, which is nice. I spent about 1 hour and 20 minutes there, enjoying a pleasant and comfortable time. I especially liked that they adjusted the portion sizes and served the dishes separately. It allowed me to enjoy my favorite dishes in a manageable quantity, and I left very satisfied. This is a restaurant I would love to revisit in Kyoto.
