In July 2023, I traveled to Hakodate in Hokkaido. I stayed at a business hotel near Hakodate Station and had breakfast at the morning market. On the second day in Hakodate, not having a specific restaurant in mind, my wife mentioned a popular place we passed by. We decided to have breakfast there, as there was not much of a line outside and customers inside were almost done eating. We waited for about 15 minutes in line, as instructed by a sign on the wall, and were seated at a table. The menu prices seemed relatively cheap compared to other places in the morning market. I ordered a colorful bowl with salmon roe, sea urchin, salmon, sweet shrimp, and scallops, while my wife chose a bowl with sea urchin, salmon roe, and crab. To my surprise, the waiter brought over a large number of small dishes as a complimentary service. Seaweed salad, pickles, dried fish, namul... more than 10 dishes filled our table. This alone could make a light eater very full. The bowls arrived shortly after, and mine was filled with my favorite toppings. The amount of food and the quality for the price were impressive. After finishing our meal and leaving the restaurant, we noticed a line forming on the other side of the walkway. We felt lucky to have been seated at the right time without much waiting. It was a memorable experience at a morning market restaurant with excellent service. Thank you for the delicious meal.

When I went to Hakodate this time, I was planning to visit Chayume. Even though it was after summer vacation and not many places were crowded, this restaurant had a line. I left my hotel in front of the station at 9 o'clock and went straight there, luckily I only had to wait about 10 minutes in line. Originally, I came to Hakodate this time to go squid fishing at the morning market, but unfortunately there were no live squids due to poor catches on the weekend, so I chose the A set which includes crab soup with squid in it. I was happy to see many small dishes, and despite the fact that prices for rice bowls have been increasing, this place offers delicious and affordable options, which explains its popularity. The staff were also attentive and made the experience pleasant. I will definitely come back!

On the last morning in Hakodate, I went to eat seafood bowl again. I felt like I was tricked into ordering the sea urchin bowl without saltwater for 2300 yen, but it was delicious with no fishy smell and a sweet taste. Although the amount of sea urchin was slightly less due to the price, it came with many small side dishes as a service, so I enjoyed the meal until the end. I had seafood bowls for breakfast for 3 days, but personally, I thought this was the best among them.

I had a business trip to Hakodate in Hokkaido and didn't have much time, so I decided to at least enjoy some delicious seafood. I went to "Asaichi no Ajidokoro Chamu" located in Donburi Yokocho in the morning market. I had decided what I wanted to eat before going, but I still checked the menu outside the restaurant before entering. I ordered the "C set" which includes a bowl of fresh sea urchin, salmon roe, and crab. The food was served in less than 10 minutes and I immediately dug in. The sea urchin, soy sauce-marinated salmon roe, and shredded crab meat were all my favorites and delicious as always. The side dishes provided in abundance that day (13 plates) were also great. Although I wanted to enjoy some drinks with the side dishes, I couldn't as I still had work ahead. The miso soup with hairy crab in the bowl was also delicious. I couldn't do much else this time, but I'm glad I could have a delicious meal. Thank you for the delicious bowl. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the restaurant in Hakodate Station in the morning around 9 am. Although I have been to Hakodate a few times before, this restaurant has always caught my eye. The restaurant is located in the Hakodate Asaichi Donburi Yokocho on the first floor of a building where various dining establishments are lined up. There were four groups of customers ahead of me waiting in line at this restaurant. The interior of the restaurant is small with counter seats and several table seats, so the turnover rate is low and I waited for about 40 minutes. I ordered the Hakodate Donburi for 1800 yen, which came with crab, salmon roe, and sea urchin. One of the distinctive features of this restaurant is that it serves many side dishes along with the main dish, making you feel like you got a great deal. The side dishes included simmered hijiki seaweed, dried daikon radish, pumpkin, simmered squid, crab miso, and squid innards, among others, allowing you to enjoy a healthy breakfast. The main ingredients of the Hakodate Donburi were fresh, and when topped with wasabi soy sauce, it was delicious. The Hakodate Donburi, which came with plenty of side dishes, felt like a great value for the price. Thank you for the meal. It was delicious!

The breakfast in Hakodate is highly recommended here. I thought about lining up before opening, but I was too late. Arrived at 7:01 am. Oh no! It's full. I line up at the front of the outdoor queue. By 7:10, there are 10 people waiting. By the way, no food is served inside the restaurant. It seems like it will take a while. While waiting in line, I was asked for my order. I ordered the Special Bowl (raw black tuna, additive-free sea urchin, homemade soy sauce marinated salmon roe) for 2,600 yen. I entered the restaurant at 7:30. There are 18 people waiting outside now!! After a while, a large number of small dishes arrived. It includes delicacies, almost like Korean cuisine (laughs). And after waiting for 5 minutes, the bowl is served. Hmm!? It looks a bit lonely... So, I start eating. The raw bluefin tuna has 2 pieces of fatty tuna and 1 piece of lean meat. The lean meat is sticky and the fatty tuna melts on the tongue. Delicious ♡♡♡♡♡ The raw sea urchin is incredibly sweet... There are no negative elements at all. It's been a while since I've had sea urchin this delicious ♡♡♡ The salmon roe is, well, just average... It's annoying that the seaweed is placed underneath. Overall... the fatty tuna and raw sea urchin are wonderfully delicious. However, the amount of toppings is lacking compared to the rice. I wish they would increase the toppings even if they remove the small dishes and raise the price a bit. The service is friendly and likeable. Thank you for the meal.

This morning, since it wasn't raining, I decided to go to the restaurant almost as soon as it opened, hoping that they might have fresh squid. However, there was a line, of course. While waiting in line, I saw people already enjoying their meals, and I couldn't help but feel excited. After about 30 minutes, I finally got a seat. I ordered the Chirashi bowl for the first time, and the waitress suggested upgrading to bluefin tuna for an additional fee, to which I eagerly agreed. And of course, I also ordered squid sashimi! The small dishes and squid sashimi arrived without much wait. The squid sashimi looked amazing. I started with the small dishes, and the standout was the potato salad, which was incredibly delicious. Now, for the squid sashimi. I mixed it with soy sauce and took a bite, savoring the chewy texture, sweetness, and freshness of the squid. The ginger and grated radish added extra flavor and texture. Although I upgraded to bluefin tuna for the bowl, I was surprised to find it included fatty tuna. It was a delicious decision. The homemade salmon roe and sweet shrimp were also delightful. I finished my luxurious breakfast with a bowl of hairy crab soup, feeling satisfied and content. This meal was the perfect way to end my visit to Hakodate. I feel fulfilled, accomplished, happy, and full. It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

I came all the way to Hakodate~. Finally made it. It's been so long that when I saw the streetcar, I almost cried. Quickly dropped off my luggage at the inn and headed straight here. I've never come during a holiday, so I'm a bit nervous about how crowded it might be. I'm not great at waiting, but I'll wait. I came here to have breakfast. Waited for about an hour and finally got in. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, they didn't have any fresh squid this morning. I'm deeply saddened. I actually came here to eat squid sashimi. So, this time I'll have the special donburi. The speed at which they switched my order was like Nobita's nap time. Waited about 5 minutes. It's here, it's here, Hakodate, I'm back! Although I'm starving, I have to consider the balance of the meal here. I decided to eat small dishes with light seasoning as singles, and face the rice and its accompaniments. But even after all that contemplation, I still can't seem to strike a balance. I need more rice (laughs). A joyful cry of being too happy. The donburi with real tuna (leaning towards otoro), homemade salmon roe, and fresh sea urchin was so delicious that the rice disappeared quickly, but the accompaniments were also too good. I thoroughly enjoyed the morning in Hakodate. I couldn't resist sharing a photo of the meal with a caption saying "I ate it". Thank you very much! It was a feast!

Hakodate Chamu in Hakodate Asa-kai Izumi-dori opens at 7:00 AM, but even arriving 20 minutes early, there was already a decent line. If you don't want to wait, it's better to arrive 30 minutes early. The restaurant is known for offering a variety of side dishes, all with a soft and easy-to-eat taste. It is famous for its cost performance. The set also includes a delicious hairy crab miso soup. I added octopus sashimi separately because I wanted to try it.

I went to Hakodate after a long time, and I noticed that the prices of seafood have gone up. However, this restaurant, although a bit crowded, offers great value for money. The seafood bowl had slightly less toppings, but they use high-quality ingredients. The crab miso soup was gentle on my stomach after a night of heavy drinking. I wish the sushi rice was a bit cooler, but it was served warm like regular white rice.

For the last breakfast of my trip to Hokkaido, I went to Donburi Yokocho. Since it was the weekend, I arrived a bit late and had to wait for 30 minutes. The restaurant is small, with counter seats, tables, and raised seating areas. It was crowded with both locals and foreign tourists. I ordered the Hokkai Don for 1,800 yen, which came with salmon, salmon roe, and crab. I had expected it to be a touristy dish, and it was. I wish the fish had been fresher and more flavorful. The restaurant also served 11 side dishes along with miso soup, which was a nice touch. Overall, the service was good, but I hope they focus more on improving the quality of the fish, which is the main attraction.

During lunchtime on weekdays, many small side dishes are served, and it's so nice to be able to try a little bit of everything. The dishes have a mild salt seasoning and taste delicious. The grilled fish set meal with freshly cooked rice pairs well with the silver cod. I resisted the urge to ask for a second helping of rice. In Hakodate, there are still things I must try, so I'm holding back. The squid sashimi was soft, tender, and deliciously sweet. The prices are reasonable, and we left feeling satisfied. My companion was impressed by the sea urchin in their seafood bowl.

During my stay in Hakodate, I had breakfast at "Asaichi no Ajidokoro Cham (Chamu)"! It's located near JR Hakodate Station, at the entrance of Hakodate Asaichi market. When I arrived around 8 o'clock, the place was packed and there was a group of four waiting outside. After a 5-minute wait, we were seated at the counter. The seating consists of two tables for two, one table for four, and a counter with five seats. I ordered the Hakodate Donburi (with sea urchin, salmon roe, and crab). Later, I realized I should have gone for the C set with hairy crab soup... The Hakodate Donburi arrived in about 10 minutes, and to my surprise, it came with miso soup and 10 side dishes! Although the amount of toppings on the donburi was a bit small, the sea urchin was delicious, the salmon roe was homemade soy-marinated, and the crab was tasty. Plus, the cost performance was great! I found a good restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

There were a few empty seats before 12:00 on Sunday, and they had a B set with a sashimi set meal with 5 kinds of sashimi and 10 small side dishes. However, there were actually 8 kinds of sashimi: chu-toro, shimesaba, sweet shrimp, salmon, squid, octopus, scallop, and crab. I didn't know there was such a cost-effective restaurant in the Hakodate station area! The crab miso soup was incredibly delicious, and the sashimi, especially the chu-toro, was too delicious. Thank you for the meal!

Hakodate Asaichi, Donburi Yokocho for a seafood breakfast. Today I visited Chayume-san. Special bowl with honmaguro, uni, and ikura for 2600 yen. Additionally, I ordered fresh squid sashimi for 950 yen. I was surprised to see 10 side dishes. The honmaguro had fatty tuna which was delicious. The uni and ikura were okay. Although they were said to be freshly caught, the squid felt a bit soft. I splurged in the morning, but it was delicious.

It's definitely a popular restaurant. I went at 10:30 and there were 4 groups of customers. I ordered the special bowl (tuna, salmon roe, sea urchin) and as rumored, it came with a lot of side dishes (lol). The bowl itself doesn't have a lot of toppings, but the variety of side dishes and the price of 2600 yen are quite reasonable for a tourist spot.

I found a highly rated restaurant near the station during lunchtime and decided to visit. I arrived a little before 12 o'clock and easily found a seat. I ordered the most recommended bowl dish, which had squid, crab, and salmon roe for only 1100 yen, which was quite cheap. I wasn't expecting much, but was surprised when various side dishes were served along with the main dish. It was a great deal and the food was delicious.

I had the Atka mackerel set meal and scallop sashimi for breakfast as I stayed without meals included. It's relatively affordable and highly rated compared to other touristy places, so I decided to come here. It was already full by 7 am. Since I had enough sashimi last night, I added a grilled fish set meal and scallop sashimi. I asked for a smaller portion of rice. Wow! Is this Korean? There were many side dishes, all carefully prepared and delicious. I particularly liked the spicy miso and burdock dishes. The rice was shiny, the grilled Atka mackerel was juicy and flavorful, with tender meat. The scallops were sweet and melted in my mouth. To have all this for 2,100 yen is extremely impressive for a tourist spot.

- Squid sashimi set meal ...... 1300 yen (tax included) Since there was no breakfast at the inn, we went to this checked shop in the morning market. The shop is not in the market, but in the "Donburi Yokocho" next door. We arrived just before opening. Managed to get in on the first go-around. Inside, there are about 8 counter seats, one table for 4 people, and maybe one or two tables for 2 people. The shop is full. Since it's morning, let's hold off on the beer and have some hot tea served. When it comes to Hakodate, it's all about squid. Here, it's the "Squid sashimi set meal." Side dishes in small plates keep coming. I had been eating them little by little while waiting for the set meal, but in retrospect, it might have been better to wait for the set meal to arrive before eating. And finally, the squid arrives. The squid sashimi and rice are piled high. The fresh squid has a chewy texture and is delicious, and the rice goes well with it. However, since the main dish was just squid, I started to get a little tired towards the end. I cursed my poor pace distribution for not leaving some of the side dishes. The staff at the shop were also very pleasant. It was a satisfying breakfast in Hakodate! Thank you for the meal! [Recommended for solo diners] 2 * 1 (ideal) 2 (for those used to it) 3 (depending on the situation) 4 (impossible) I visited with one other person. At that time, I did not see any solo diners, but personally, I didn't think the atmosphere of the shop or the presence of counter seats made it difficult for solo diners to use the restaurant.

[WAITING TIME] Visited before noon on a holiday. No wait, seated right away. The interior has a counter, a raised seating area for two, and tables. [Salmon and Roe Rice Bowl] When you think of Hokkaido, you think of salmon, salmon roe, and smelt. That's my go-to choice. I ordered and a small dish arrived in 5 minutes. There were so many varieties, it was already satisfying. And then, the main dish arrived. The salmon and salmon roe were delicious, truly representing Hokkaido. I could eat this every day. The smelt was huge, unlike anything I've seen before. The richness of the fat was amazing. The satisfaction after finishing the meal was incredible.

In the midst of Golden Week, the restaurant opens at 7 am, but I arrived around 6:30 am anticipating a long line. There were already about 5 groups lined up, but luckily I was able to get in on the first round! If I had waited 10 minutes longer, I would have had to wait a long time as the line was already very long before opening. I recommend arriving early if you visit during the holidays! I ordered the Hakodate Donburi and squid sashimi. Just by ordering the bowl, you get 10 side dishes and miso soup, which felt like a great deal! The breakfast was delicious, and despite being in a port town, the flavors were not too strong. The sea urchin was particularly delicious. Because of the variety of dishes, the turnover of customers is slower compared to restaurants that only serve bowls. When I finished eating and left the restaurant, the line was still significantly longer compared to other places. I wonder how many hours the wait would be...
