On the last Thursday of August, I went to the coffee shop Ashijima that I had been wanting to visit after watching a movie. The shop is located on the 5th floor of a building where Tenkaippin is also located. I arrived at 3:00 PM and when I got off the elevator, I found myself inside the shop. The cozy 2-seater tables were nicely arranged and looked comfortable to sit at. There was also a wide counter in the back, creating a lovely atmosphere. Since the table seats were all taken, I was seated at the counter. The Sanjo cheesecake was sold out, so I ordered the Denmark cream cheese molten cheesecake (set for 670 yen, single for 970 yen) and an iced cafe au lait (950 yen). The iced cafe au lait had a rich coffee floating on top of milk, and adding syrup made it refreshing and easy to drink. The cheesecake had a slightly firm surface but was creamy and rich inside with a mild sweetness. When I entered, the shop was almost full, but as people left, it became quieter with only 3 of us remaining. Classical music played softly in the background, creating a peaceful atmosphere for us to enjoy. Thank you for the meal.

On a Sunday afternoon, there were no waiting customers, and the restaurant was mostly filled with about 5 groups of people in their 20s and 30s, totaling around 10 people. They ordered a cake set with Cinnamon Chocolat Cake and Iced Coffee. The only options for iced drinks were Iced Coffee, Cafe au Lait, and Decaf. We waited for about 10 minutes, and the Iced Coffee was made one cup at a time. The cake was delicious and not too overwhelming, very enjoyable. It's tasty, but be careful if you don't like cinnamon. The coffee was quite strong, but I liked it even though I usually don't enjoy strong coffee. The slightly lukewarm temperature seemed intentional. It seems like a hidden gem. First visit! It seemed to be quite popular as there were several groups waiting, but after about 15 minutes, we were shown to our seats. The seats were spacious and we were able to relax as if we were at home! The freshly roasted coffee had a wonderful aroma, and the cheesecake was also very delicious!

The relaxed ambiance permeated throughout the space. The staff were polite and seemed well-trained not to disturb the customers' experience. I think this place is perfect for a calm and adult couple.

During the day, the chatter of voices feels lively, but at night it truly feels like an adult time, with a great atmosphere. It might be nice to spend some time alone. However, the downside at night is that many items are often sold out. Everything is delicious though.

My friend ordered a cold brew coffee (850 yen) and a bitter chocolate dessert (690 yen, but 990 yen if ordered separately). The drinks and desserts arrived promptly, and my cafe au lait was refreshing and easy to drink, while the cheesecake had a light and fluffy texture with the perfect level of sweetness. Though the prices may be a bit high, the taste justifies it. The service was also very polite, creating an atmosphere that makes you want to come back again and again. If you find yourself in Kawaramachi, I highly recommend stopping by this cafe. I definitely plan on returning in the future.

Ashijima Tea House is located in a mixed-use building, so you have to take the elevator to get there. I'm sure I'm not the only one who finds such places a bit intimidating. However, one great thing about Ashijima is the spaciousness of the space. The size of the counter table in particular is impressive. You can enjoy your coffee in a very calm atmosphere. The coffee is freshly ground and brewed after you order. It's a bit disappointing that they don't have lightly roasted beans, but the coffee is quite delicious. The quality of the cheesecake is also very high. The prices are high, but they are justified by the quality. Also, you can work on your computer without any complaints. In places like Tokyo, even if the coffee isn't that great, there are cafes that don't allow the use of computers, but I wish those places would learn from this one. In terms of cafes, Kyoto is more tolerant than Tokyo, and not as strict.
