I thought it was a wonderful restaurant that is easy to visit for dates, entertaining guests, or companions. They have a wide variety of drinks, and the staff is flexible and accommodating. The food was delicious and very satisfying. I would recommend this place to others.

Here you can enjoy game meat all year round. This time, we had raccoon, nutria, and Japanese badger. There was no gamey taste at all, in fact, the meat was sweet and fatty. The soup with game meat was elegant and had a rich flavor. The dishes were beautiful as well! They offer a variety of Japanese sake. We started with a toast with beer. For whiskey lovers, they have both Kakuto and Yamazaki. We finished our meal with Keema curry with rice and felt satisfied. For dessert, you can choose between almond jelly and pudding.

In a calm space, with a very homely service. I had a great time enjoying the delicious food and sake of the chef's omakase course. The staff at the restaurant were very kind and I would definitely want to visit again when I come to Kyoto. There is also a bar on the second floor where you can enjoy wine selected by a sommelier. Sitting at the counter facing the chef is a good experience. It was my first time trying dishes like the Anaguma sukiyaki, and I was satisfied with all the dishes.

I went to the restaurant but couldn't find it, so I called and was guided by the cheerful voice of the landlady. When I entered, I was greeted again by the energetic landlady. The first floor was already almost full with three groups of regular customers who seemed to have just come back from golf. It had a lively atmosphere. A cozy seat at the back of the counter was prepared for me. It felt more like a high-class traditional Japanese restaurant rather than a formal kaiseki restaurant. The master was also very friendly throughout. The dishes were impressive and seemed to aim to surprise the customers. The presentation was impactful, and there were plenty of dishes. The main dish of the day was an eel hot pot, not something like wild boar which is sometimes included. I have already had conger eel twice in Tokyo, but it seemed they hadn't served it yet. Personally, I felt that the flavors overall were strong and quite powerful. The vinegar dish with shrimp and octopus, tempura, sukiyaki-style Omi beef, and freshly cooked white rice were all delicious. I enjoyed the Kyoto craft beer, Kaiun, Kudoki Jozu, and Fudo sake slowly, more than usual.

With 30 years of history, it's no wonder that everything was delicious and top-notch! The landlady's friendly and entertaining service adds to the enjoyment. The homemade mentaiko at the end of the meal, the sukiyaki-style meat, and the pickles allowed me to eat three bowls of rice. This is definitely a restaurant I will visit again. Thank you so much!

We went to dinner with 3 people after a meeting in Kyoto. Despite the sudden reservation, they kindly accepted us. The service was great and the atmosphere was cozy, giving off a Kyoto vibe. The interior was stylish and the dishes were served in amazing tableware. The food had a Kyoto essence, and surprisingly, they also served game meat. I was particularly surprised by the raccoon dish! I was hesitant at first, but it was incredibly delicious, especially the fatty parts. I think the way it was prepared was fantastic. I wasn't a big fan of Kyoto before, but now I'm hooked. Thanks for the great meal! Ψ( 'ч'♡ )

The main dish this time was grilled hamo (pike conger) skewers. The hamo skin was seared over charcoal and the flesh was half-raw. The hamo, with no bones to be found, was truly impressive. The delicious scent of the grilled hamo whets the appetite. The texture is also excellent, becoming more flavorful as you chew. Under the kaji leaf, there were Hokkaido shako (mantis shrimp) and Kumamoto migratory crab, all brought together by a jelly. The shako roe is delightfully crunchy. The boldness of combining the soup of the soft-shelled turtle with the Japanese badger is unique to the restaurant. The badger fat is sweet. The sashimi included rare items such as white shrimp and Biwamasu (Biwa trout). Biwamasu has an elegant fat content. The rare katsu of horse mackerel allows you to enjoy the changing texture as you eat it little by little. The iwatake mushroom and shellfish sauce covering abalone, flat shell, scallop, and clams provide a variety of flavors to enjoy. Natural iwatake mushrooms are not something you can easily come by. The rice with sansho pepper and dried baby sardines has a refreshing aroma of sansho pepper. They made onigiri with the leftover rice. The miso ramen with wild boar chashu asserts its presence. The soup, made from a blend of various miso, is delicious. The spicy tantanmen is also tasty. By the time we reached dessert, we were completely stuffed.

I went to Gion Motosei recently and found that there were very few people in Gion these days. It's nice to experience the quiet side of Kyoto, but it feels a bit lonely. We opted for the omakase course, which cost around 46,000 yen for two people excluding tax. The dishes were all beautifully presented and delicious. There were many unique ingredients, so here are a few highlights: horse meat and yam tofu with snapping turtle soup, seared bird clam, grilled blackthroat seaperch with watercress and bottarga, raccoon dog meat and vegetables, and finally, fruits with raccoon dog meat. The raccoon dog meat was surprisingly tasty without any unpleasant odor, although it was a bit tough. I would have preferred to try the Omi beef since the restaurant is a designated Omi beef shop. Overall, it was satisfying to try these unique dishes, but in terms of value for money, it was just average.

I came on Sunday, May 2, 2021. It was my first time here. The interior of the restaurant is clean and calming. I ordered the miso ramen, which was delicious and made my mouth happy. The bamboo shoots were soft and blended perfectly with the noodles and soup. I am completely satisfied and full of happiness. It really hit the spot. I look forward to coming back at night next time to enjoy it even more. Thank you for the meal. I will definitely come again. I appreciate all the ingredients in this world. Delicious food is calling for me♪ The more I eat, the more power overflows♪

I was intrigued by the combination of game meat and traditional Japanese cuisine, and since I could make a reservation for one person, I booked through Tabelog and visited the restaurant. ◆ Omakase Course ¥16500 - Appetizers: Jade beans, firefly squid marinated in vinegar, whole squid, scallop with Tofu, kelp with eggs, shrimp, black beans, sea bream temari sushi The spring-like appetizers were all delicious. - Softshell turtle steamed in a clay pot It was probably my first time trying softshell turtle, but the broth was very delicious. I enjoyed the rich flavor. - Sashimi: Sea bream from Akashi, swordtip squid, bluefin tuna, shrimp, etc. The plump sweet shrimp, tender and sweet squid, and well-balanced fatty and flavorful tuna were all delicious! - Flathead grey mullet, grilled bamboo shoots, sakura shrimp and onion tempura The flathead grey mullet is served with wood sorrel vinegar. It was very delicious with a rich flavor. The bamboo shoots had a good texture and were to my liking. The tempura had a slightly moist coating. - Game meat dumplings When the chef asked, "Do you want some dumplings?" I immediately said yes! (laughs) I believe the dumplings were made from bear and wild boar. Despite being game meat, they were juicy and delicious. - Vinegared dish of flat abalone and scallop Served with Tosa vinegar jelly and egg vinegar. The sweet shellfish paired with the mellow jelly and vinegar was delicious. The abundance of mountain vegetables was also to my liking. - Anaguma sukiyaki The main dish was Anaguma! They showed us the meat before cutting it, which got me excited. The sukiyaki had plenty of vegetables, and the first-time experience of Anaguma was sweet and delicious. - Game meat curry I believe it was made with Anaguma and wild boar. The sweetness of the tomatoes was stronger than the game meat, and the curry was delicious with a good spicy kick. - Dessert: Pudding I chose pudding over almond tofu. It was a rich and delicious pudding. The head chef and the hostess were friendly, so I was able to relax and enjoy my meal! Depending on the timing, they may have rare game meats, so I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

I was taken to this restaurant by a friend and was completely charmed by the friendly chef and hostess. We had the omakase course for 12,000 yen, which may seem a bit expensive at first, but the quality of the food was truly amazing, making it feel quite affordable instead.

I have been enjoying anglerfish here every summer. The anglerfish and matsutake mushroom bowl offers a variety of flavors to enjoy. The sashimi was also very good. The grilled anglerfish cooked right in front of us allowed us to savor the hot dish and enjoy the taste of the anglerfish. The "Ezo pork" was a first for me, but I really enjoyed the flavor. It seemed to be smoked, and we could also enjoy the aroma. The combination of anglerfish and Ezo pork was interesting, as this restaurant specializes in game meat. The mixed sherbet was rich, so it would be better as a standalone dish, but for dessert, I prefer something a bit lighter. Overall, it was a satisfying night in Kyoto where even the dishes made us feel cool.

It had been a long time since I last visited Kyoto, as my husband had been on a long period of self-restraint due to COVID-19. As a surprise, he made a reservation for us! However, since we live in Kobe, I was worried about getting back late if we had dinner too far away, so I asked my husband to check if we could cancel the reservation the day before. The staff on the phone was so kind, even though it was my fault, saying, "During these times with COVID-19, it's not a problem at all. If you're still unsure, please give us a call tomorrow morning if you decide to come." Hearing about the kind response, we decided to go to the restaurant the next day. The kaiseki restaurant in Gion served delicious dishes, and the hostess was just as kind and cheerful as she was on the phone. The chef was also smiling, making it a wonderful dining experience. My husband, knowing I love fish, ordered a fish-based course for me, with hamo as the main dish, perfect for early summer. From sashimi to the first time trying hamo sukiyaki, grilled dishes, rice, and dessert, each dish was satisfying. The flavors were light yet not too bland, and the warm hospitality made it the perfect day. I definitely want to visit this restaurant again.

I had been avoiding dining out at night for a while, but since July has arrived, I thought it might be a good time to start. I decided to go to Motozei for my first night out. The counter was full that day, but they were leaving one seat empty between each group. When it comes to summer in Kyoto, you have to try the conger eel. It was my first time trying it dipped in hot water and eaten with raw egg.

Gion Motozei in February is hosting a game meat festival. This restaurant is rare in Gion for handling game meat such as wild boar, raccoon dog, badger, and bear. They have their own unique sourcing route. From grilling to teriyaki, hot pot, and curry, they offer a variety of dishes with game meat. They also have a selection of sake, including their own private label and seasonal brands. The atmosphere is relaxed and you can visit without feeling any pressure.

On the way back from Hatsumode (New Year's shrine visit), I made a reservation to have a meal in Gion. The atmosphere in Gion during New Year's is nice. I like the chef's dishes because they have a strong visual impact, bold flavors, and are reasonably priced. The wild boar meat that came out in the middle of the course was surprisingly flavorful and delicious. The touch of game meat was effective.

I received a New Year's Eve hot pot set from Gion Motosei. I had ordered it after seeing a sign at the store the other day. The hot pot features duck as the main ingredient. The three-tiered bento box neatly contains meat, vegetables, and more. There is plenty of broth. After enjoying the hot pot, you can also enjoy New Year's Eve soba. It costs 18,000 yen for three servings, but it's a hot pot that warms not only your body but also your heart.

We had a year-end party in Kyoto. I thought it had to be Gion in Kyoto, so I made a reservation at Motose in Gion. It had been six months since I last visited, but now you can make reservations through Tabelog. Also, there was a consumer rebate sticker at the entrance. It said that JCB, AMEX, Diners, and Rakuten are eligible for cash back. There were some new changes, but the taste was still satisfying as always.
