In Obihiro City, there is a sweet shop called Manju-ya, although their specialty is actually Obanyaki (large pancake filled with sweet red bean paste and cheese). The area is known for producing high-quality ingredients like red beans and cheese, so the Obanyaki is exceptionally delicious. The cheese inside the Obanyaki is very stretchy, especially when it's hot and freshly made. It's recommended to eat it right away at the shop rather than buying it as a souvenir. They also sell soft-serve ice cream and other treats. It was a delicious meal!

When it comes to Obihiro, when it comes to Oyaki, it has to be here! And definitely the cheese Oyaki! It's delicious when the cheese stretches while it's hot♪ I always buy about 10 cheese Oyaki and freeze them. When I want to eat them, I microwave them and eat them. It's a recommended way for people who come from afar! Good for eating on the go and as a souvenir.

I went on a 2-night, 3-day trip to Tokachi Obihiro! On the second day, after strolling through the white birch avenue at Tokachi Ranch, I felt a little hungry and stopped by Takahashi Manju-ya. This long-established manju shop, founded in 1954, is a popular spot known locally as "Takaman." Although the shop's name is "manju-ya," their specialty is the obanyaki (large pancakes). Inside, there is a nostalgic atmosphere of a traditional shop, and the owner is busy baking plenty of obanyaki. In addition to obanyaki, they also offer steamed buns and meat buns. I purchased... ▼Obanyaki (red bean paste) @140 yen ▼Obanyaki (cheese) @140 yen I immediately tried them in the rental car. Both were freshly baked and piping hot. The dough was slightly sweet and moist and fluffy! The red bean paste is made from Tokachi-grown azuki beans, not too sweet, and of high quality, making it delicious. The cheese was very elastic and stretchy! Tokachi is famous for its cheese, and the cheese flavor was very tasty. It's been a while since I had obanyaki, but this might be the best one I've ever had. Truly a popular shop. Thank you for the meal! (^_^)

I received these treats when I returned to Hokkaido. I bought anko and cheese-filled taiyaki at "Takahashi Manju-ya" located at 19-4 Higashi 1-jo Minami 5-chome, Obihiro City. Both anko and cheese taiyaki cost 140 yen each. I enjoyed them with my wife as a souvenir for our home in Asahikawa. The taiyaki had a thick outer layer and the anko and cheese fillings were delicious. Takahashi Manju-ya is a long-established store founded in 1954. It gained more fame when the Takagi sisters, who won medals in skating, endorsed it. They are also known as "Takaman." Inside the store, there was a special edition newspaper featuring Takagi Miho's gold medal win at the Olympics. The store had a display case with steamed buns and nikuman. The taiyaki seemed to be kept warm elsewhere. The menu included anko taiyaki for 140 yen, cheese taiyaki for 140 yen, steamed buns for 140 yen, nikuman for 140 yen, soft serve ice cream for 200 yen, and more. I also bought mushipan and nikuman as souvenirs for my parents' home. Each cost 140 yen. I enjoyed the mushipan with my mother, bringing back nostalgic memories. If you ever visit Obihiro, be sure to try them out. They were delicious. Thank you for the meal.

When it comes to souvenirs in Obihiro, Takahashi Manju-ya is the place to go. It's a popular shop even among locals, always with a full parking lot. I usually buy steamed buns and oyaki (cheese) to take home. If you have space in your freezer, you can buy a large quantity and enjoy them by heating them up later. On this day, I bought 5 of each. When I got home, I immediately tried one of the oyaki and it turned out to be filled with red bean paste. Well, that's part of the fun too.

I bought dorayaki with red bean paste and cheese, and steamed buns. I was staying at a hotel without meals included, so I bought them to have for breakfast the next day. However, I realized it's better to eat them right away. I warmed them up in the microwave, but I felt like it didn't taste as good as it should have (since it was my first time trying them, I'm not sure). Next time, I'll make sure to eat them right after purchasing.

When I come to Tokachi, I always stop by Takahashi Manju-ya shop! No, I get sucked in. And then I end up buying a lot. The salty cheese and sweet dough collaborate endlessly, making it impossible to stop. I couldn't get the meat buns because they were sold out.

I ordered a large dorayaki (red bean paste pancake) from Takahashi Manju-ya, and enjoyed it freshly baked. It was delicious as usual. The nikuman (meat bun) was sold out. There used to be long lines, but I was able to buy without waiting today. The shop is also famous for having the Takagi sisters, speed skaters, working part-time there. I felt a bit rushed by the cashier, which was a bit annoying. This is just my personal diary, so please don't rely on it for reviews or comments.

I visited the store around 4:00 PM in October 2022. There were 6 groups of customers before me and many customers behind me. Actually, I passed by the store an hour ago, but there were over 20 people lined up, so I decided to come back later. The store can only accommodate up to 5 people inside, so the rest have to wait outside. I waited for about 5 minutes outside and in total about 10 minutes until I received my dorayaki. When you place an order, you can get a dorayaki that seems to be pre-made right away. It's warm, so it hasn't been sitting for too long. I tried the dorayaki (cheese, red bean paste). [Cheese] The cheese flavor is light and not overwhelming. The texture of the pancake absorbs the moisture in your mouth. It would be nice if there was a bit more cheese. It feels a bit lacking. [Red bean paste] It's chunky red bean paste. The sweetness was a bit too strong. The warm dorayaki is delicious. The pancake really absorbs the moisture in your mouth. Personally, I don't understand why this place is so popular at all. I wonder what makes it different from supermarket dorayaki...?

I visited this place when I traveled to Obihiro with my son in October. As expected from a popular shop, the parking lot next to the store was full with a few cars waiting. There were about 10 customers waiting in line in front of the store. However, the turnover was fast, so we didn't have to wait long to make a purchase. When we got home, we warmed them up in the microwave. We had dorayaki, steamed buns, and meat buns, and they all had a simple and delicious taste. The cheese dorayaki, in particular, was so delicious that I would definitely buy it next time and eat it right there on the spot. Thank you for the meal.

In Obihiro at 9:30 AM. I was looking for breakfast and found a delicious shop called Takahashi Manju, which was featured in an airplane brochure. It was conveniently open in the morning. The shop had a spacious parking lot nearby, so I felt relieved to come by car. Inside, there were fluffy steamed Chinese buns and steamed bread lined up, which looked tempting, but I stuck to my original plan and ordered a dorayaki (red bean paste, cheese). I ordered the cheese flavor because Google said it was delicious. I thought the size might be too big, but in the end, two were just right and I finished them quickly. The red bean paste was hot and the dough was chewy, with a gentle taste of azuki beans. The dough itself had a slightly sweet taste like baby castella, which paired well with the red bean paste. The cheese had a mild flavor like Camembert, with a perfect balance of subtle saltiness. People who like sweet and salty flavors will enjoy it. At only 140 yen per piece, it's very affordable, and I understand why it gets crowded with locals buying in bulk on holidays. I plan to try the steamed buns and meat buns next time.

After enjoying the Tokachi Mall Onsen, I checked on Tabelog to see if there were any good places to eat in Obihiro City before heading to the Ban'ei Horse Racing. I found a highly-rated taiyaki shop and couldn't resist visiting a popular anko (red bean paste) shop in the hometown of Tokachi without regretting it later. Despite the risk of not making it to the first race at the Ban'ei Horse Racing, I made my way to Takahashi Manju. The parking lot was full, so I had to wait at the entrance. There was a line of nearly 10 people in front of the shop. I didn't have high expectations for the taste of the large taiyaki that people were waiting in line for, but my anticipation grew. It seemed like there were about 30 reserved customers who bought a lot of taiyaki. After that, another customer with a reservation arrived. The long line was partly due to this. I was also interested in the steamed buns, but I decided to stick to just one large taiyaki with red bean paste since I was planning to eat biratori beef later. Upon tasting it, it was mostly smooth red bean paste. Red bean paste in Tokachi, the hometown? Well, it's better to think of it as smooth red bean paste. It was fairly delicious for smooth red bean paste. The dough had a distinct flavor. In a good way, it had a unique feature, and in a bad way, the dough was thick, which is a characteristic. I'm glad I only got one. Is there a taiyaki that can beat the taste of Takahashi Manju? Even at this level, many local taiyaki shops thrive. Everyone is buying them even though they have to wait in line. Well, taiyaki is considered inexpensive. In an era where a small cake can cost over 400 yen. Still, 140 yen for taiyaki compared to 100 yen or less for smooth red bean paste. It might be a popular shop loved by the locals. *There are taiyaki shops in Sapporo, but you wouldn't go from Obihiro, right? (laughs) New rating criteria (reviews without this notation are based on the old criteria) 5 points = Hall of Fame 4.5 points = I want to go back even if it's far away 4 points = I want to go back again and again 3.5 points = I would go back again 3 points = I would go if I had the chance 2 points = I probably wouldn't revisit 1 point = I definitely wouldn't go ===========

Steamed buns have a simple taste, some might say bland. The cheese taiyaki was okay, but it might have been tastier if it was a bit hotter. The omurice is still tasty even when it's cold. The service is not good, so I don't understand why this place has such high ratings.

Highly renowned Takahashi Manju-ya in Obihiro, a place that everyone knows. You might not eat it every day, but you'll crave it occasionally. The prices are reasonable, and the taste is traditional and satisfying. The cheese flavor is also delicious. Thank you for the meal!

Established in 1954, this long-standing shop in Obihiro is always popular among locals and visitors alike. Known affectionately as "Takaman," it stands out among the nationally famous shops like Rokkatei and Yezo. The shop is said to have been frequented by the famous figure skater, Mihoko Highwood, who even worked part-time here. The parking lot next to the shop was full when I visited on a weekday at 3 pm, as most customers opt for takeout. The interior of the shop offers a glimpse of the manufacturing process and exudes a nostalgic charm. While items like meat buns and steamed buns are popular, the standout seems to be the "Daiyaki (red bean paste)" priced at 140 yen. I purchased one and enjoyed it in my car. The outer layer was slightly crispy, while the inside was soft and fluffy with a hint of saltiness from the Tokachi red beans. Overall, it was a delicious Daiyaki that lived up to expectations. I would like to try the cheese or meat buns on my next visit. However, I'm not sure if I would go out of my way to revisit the shop.

This is a famous shop where famous people like speed skater Takagi and the singer from Dreams Come True, Yoshida, have worked part-time. When it comes to bringing gifts in Obihiro, one out of every three times it's Takaman's oyaki (based on our company's experience) haha. They offer meat buns (140 yen), large red bean paste buns (140 yen), and large cheese buns (140 yen). The cheese buns have a thick cheese filling on a mildly sweet and fluffy dough.

Takahashi Manju-ya, also known as "Takaman", is a popular snack shop in Obihiro that almost every resident knows or has tried. They offer delicious treats like large red bean pancakes, cheese or soft serve ice cream, steamed buns, and shaved ice. Obihiro is known for its great confectionery shops, with the most famous being Rokkatei known for their butter sandwiches, followed by Yanagi Tsuki, Cranberry, and Takaman. Whenever I visit Obihiro, I make sure to have lunch at Indian Curry, enjoy snacks from Takaman and Hokkaido Yatai, and buy sweet potato treats from Cranberry as souvenirs. It's a tradition for me to buy unique items only available at local stores like Yanagi Tsuki and Rokkatei as gifts. Despite price increases over the years, the quality and low prices at Takahashi Manju-ya remain unbeatable. #TokachiCafe #TokachiGourmet #TokachiSweets #ObihiroGourmet #ObihiroCafe #MustVisitSpots #Snacks #SoftServeIceCream #TakahashiManjuYa #SteamedBuns #SoftServeIceCreamLovers #ConnectingWithFoodies #PopularEateries #SweetTreatsTerror #LookingToConnectWithFoodLovers.

◆Obihiro Takahashi Manju-ya (Insect-shaped bread & Dorayaki)◆ Takahashi Manju-ya is famous for being connected to the Takagi sisters, speed skaters. Starting from April, the prices have increased by ¥20. I bought the insect-shaped bread and Dorayaki (red bean paste pancake) and enjoyed them at the hotel. Both of them are pretty standard, but there is a charm in their simplicity. The insect-shaped bread could serve as a substantial "meal" for students coming back from club activities. I was planning to go out for dinner, but I didn't feel hungry until bedtime because of these snacks.

March 2022. First Visit. After having ramen in Obihiro, we decided to have dessert as well. Following a recommendation from MyRebi, we visited a place we had never heard of before, "Takahashi Manju-ya". It is said that the speed skater Nana Takagi used to work here in the past, and her sister, Miho Takagi, also worked here occasionally as her sister's assistant. Despite the excitement of the Beijing Olympics still lingering, we decided to stop by. Even on a weekday, the place was crowded, showing its popularity. We bought a large manju (red bean paste and cheese) and soft-serve ice cream. Surprisingly, the soft-serve ice cream was only 200 yen, a rare find these days. The ice cream was slightly firm, leaning towards a condensed milk-like sweetness rather than a milk sweetness. It was a unique taste that we had never experienced before, but for 200 yen, it was not bad at all. Towards the end, we attempted the classic technique of creating a vacuum suction from the bottom of the cone, but due to the firm texture of the ice cream, it took a bit of effort. However, we were able to fully enjoy the harmony between the cone and the ice cream until the last bite. We reheated the large manju at home the next day. The red bean paste was chunky and not strained, but the sweet dough on the surface was delicious, despite feeling slightly overcooked. As for the cheese flavor, it tasted purely like cheese and honestly did not seem to match well with the dough. After purchasing it at the store, we saw a poster of Miho Takagi, so we shared some soft-serve ice cream as a reward for her gold medal, making it a memorable experience (laughs).

Located about 15 minutes from JR Obihiro Station in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, this shop specializes in large dorayaki and manju. Since I'm not a big fan of anko (sweet red bean paste), I opted for the manju. The shop has a parking lot since it's in the outskirts. The warm manju with juicy filling was especially delicious on a chilly morning.

I tried the "Nikuman (meat bun) & mushi pan (steamed bun) & obanyaki (sweet pancake)" from Takahashi Manju-ya in Obihiro City, Hokkaido. It is located about a 16-minute walk from JR Obihiro Station. I bought the three varieties to take home. First, the nikuman had a thick, chewy skin with a simple and traditional meat filling. Next, the mushi pan had a simple taste but managed to absorb all the moisture in my mouth! Lastly, the obanyaki (cheese) had a slightly sweet outer dough that paired perfectly with the salty cheese filling. It was delicious, and I finished it all in one go.
