I have used some of the top-rated bakeries in Kyoto, but I had never written a review before. I happened to be near Shijo Kawaramachi, so I decided to visit Walden bakery after a long time. The bakery is located two streets west of Teramachi Street, down Sanjo Street in Fuyacho Street. The shop is very small with a narrow entrance and a cramped sales area filled with various types of bread. I purchased two pastry bread items: - Two kinds of sweet bean butter sandwiches (324 yen): There were limited-time products with sweet potato bean and red bean, as well as lemon bean and red bean. The sweet potato bean was sold out, so I bought the lemon bean version. It had a surprisingly delicious taste! The slight acidity of the lemon complemented the sweetness and deliciousness of the white bean. It goes perfectly with the butter and firm French bread underneath. It seems like a well-thought-out product, not just a random idea. I'm not sure if it was freshly made, but it was untouched by anyone, and I highly recommend trying it. - Croissant Osamond (356 yen): This was the last one left, and I couldn't resist buying it. It is a croissant dipped in rum with almond cream sandwiched inside. This, too, was incredibly delicious! Not only did they dip the croissant in rum, but they also generously filled it with almond cream, making it rich and tasty. Since there are quite a few customers, the popular items tend to sell out quickly, so I recommend arriving early to purchase what you have your eye on.

I visited the bakery on the first day of my trip, but it was closed, so I went back today when it opened at 9 am on Friday. There were only 2 foreign tourists ahead of me. They are closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. I bought the following items: Matcha red bean bun for 162 yen, Lemon red bean bun for 162 yen, Tuna and anchovy croissant for 270 yen, Ange for 324 yen, Pain au chocolat for 270 yen, Mango and cashew nut bread for 270 yen, Cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese bread for 270 yen. The red bean paste in the matcha red bean bun was of very high quality and delicious. There were a total of 5 small cube-shaped buns, and I wanted to try them all. Overall, the bakery's bread, especially the croissant dough, was of high quality and delicious. The fillings were also of high quality, with plenty of nuts, tuna, and more. It's a great bakery in terms of cost performance. I recommend it when staying near Sanjo. I still want to try the "Morihan Hojicha Cream Bun" and other items, so I hope to revisit on my next trip to Kyoto.

Today, I bought bread at this bakery. This shop near Nishiki Market is my first visit. It specializes in German bread. I bought a pretzel here. It had a chewy texture and the saltiness matched well, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I bought an egg sandwich and a blue cheese bread. The egg sandwich may seem ordinary, but it's delicious. The bread is tasty, they must be using good quality wheat. The blue cheese bread is hard with walnuts inside and honey drizzled on top. It's exquisite.

I am traveling around the country in search of truly delicious food. Croissant, hojicha cream bread, matcha corone, and sansho baguette. These are very unique and would surely please tourists. A bakery where you can feel Japan. The hojicha cream bread has a certain elegance reminiscent of coffee or chocolate, with a sharp bitterness to finish. A well-thought-out bread. Truly impressive.

A small bakery that offers only takeout, no seating available. The bread is specialty from Kyoto, incorporating Kyoto ingredients with unique twists. For example, fig-infused ciabatta baked to a hard texture, or bread made with dashi and shrimp. They also offer mini cube-shaped sweet bean paste buns in flavors like matcha, white miso, and lemon, as well as creatively made Danish pastries. If you're looking for high-quality and unique bread, be sure to stop by.

I visited for the first time in a few years and as always, there were so many options to choose from that I had a hard time deciding! It was after 10 o'clock and I was the only customer there, so I could take my time. I ended up choosing the hojicha cream bun, Kyoto dashi bun, mushroom bun, and Pullman loaf. The previous plastic bags were stylish, but the current ones are cute and sturdy as well! The total came to ¥5. The dashi bun didn't have anything inside, which was a bit disappointing, but as soon as I bit into it, the bonito dashi flavor spread gently in my mouth. It was chewy and satisfying! If you cut it in half and add some tamagoyaki and shiso, it could be like a cafe menu item. The hojicha cream bun had a strong hojicha flavor! It's nothing like the hojicha-flavored cream you find in other stores, it's much more intense. The mushroom bun had a refreshing cream cheese filling. The top part of the bread was a bit hard, so I scooped up the cream cheese with it. Next time, I want to try the kouglof and some savory breads!

I strolled around the area near Kawaramachi and visited a cozy bakery to buy bread for the next morning around 2 pm. They offered a well-balanced lineup of sweets like cornets, hard bread, and side dishes. I chose the anchovy croissant and fig bread. The croissant was slightly slim with a straight silhouette, and it had a nice crispy texture and aroma. The anchovy flavor was a bit strong, but I'd like to try their basic croissant next time. The fig bread was dense and chewy, offering a satisfying bite. I lightly toasted it for a fragrant taste. Thank you for the meal!

I visited during the Gion Festival in the morning. There were a few people inside, but I didn't have to wait in line. There were many options, and I had a hard time deciding, but I chose a matcha coronet and a bread with mango inside. The taste was delicious as usual for a bakery, so if you are not a local, it might be more enjoyable to choose something that is typical of Kyoto.

I went right after the store opened, but it quickly filled up with foreign customers. The crispy tart, unlike anything I've had before, was delicious. The dashi chigiri bread with sakura shrimp inside was also very tasty.

I found a delicious-looking bakery near the hotel and decided to stop by on my way back from Rokuyosha. All the bread looked very beautiful and appetizing. My husband got an anpan, a salmon and cream cheese bread, and I got a Kyoto-style dashi bread to go. My husband really enjoyed his bread. As for mine, I chose something a bit unusual and it was okay. It was soft with a strong dashi flavor, a bit different. The croissants looked crispy and delicious, so I think I'll try those next time. Thank you for the meal!

A bakery located a few minutes from Watamachi Station. Inside the store, there are many types of bread displayed, and the space is relaxing. I bought a cream puff, a shichimi and sansho pepper bread, and a bacon and cheese garlic butter bread. The cream puff was round and fluffy, with plenty of smooth custard filling and a subtly sweet taste. The shichimi and sansho pepper bread was on the harder side, with a strong numbing sensation from the sansho pepper and a nice spicy kick from the shichimi as an accent. The sweetness of the wheat stood out. It was the most delicious among the ones I bought. The bacon and cheese garlic butter bread had a hard surface, with a crispy and fragrant bacon flavor and a strong umami taste, and a faint spread of cheese flavor. The garlic hit you strongly afterwards, which was nice. It was a satisfying bread to eat. Thank you for the meal.

On the second day of my trip from Nara to Kyoto, I had Chinese food at Sumiyoshi and decided to buy some bread to take home. I found this trendy bakery with a variety of bread options, making it hard to choose. Both my son and I love bread, so even though it was a tough decision, we ended up buying three: Bacon Shrimp (324 yen), Waldorf Toast (300 yen), and Scone with Orange Chocolate (162 yen). The Bacon Shrimp is a classic and goes well with beer as a snack. The Waldorf Toast can be sliced to your liking, and we chose 5 slices to share. It's a high-quality bread that is crispy on the outside but chewy inside. The Scone with Orange Chocolate is delicious, with a refreshing orange flavor and the sweetness of chocolate. Oh, I'm curious about the other bread options too. Thank you for the meal! (*´▽`*)

Thank you for always viewing. When you think it's good, I would be happy if you could bookmark the store by clicking the "Save Shop" button. This is part 3 of my wife's Kyoto souvenir! It's the bakery Wälder in Kyoto Kawaramachi, requested by my husband. The address is 452 Sakai-cho, Kojiya-machi, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City, 1F, Haimart Fuyamachi, an 8-minute walk from Hankyu Kyoto Main Line "Kawaramachi" Station. Closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays, open from 9:00 to 19:00. When asked what kind of shop it is, my wife said it's a popular shop where customers come one after another! The variety of bread is abundant, so it might be overwhelming at first sight. * We had requested the types of bread. All breads are wrapped in nylon. Two types of sweet bean butter (chunky sweet bean, roasted green tea) for 300 yen, Kyoto dashi bread for 250 yen, Frui Seck for 350 yen, and Wälder for 300 yen, totaling 1,200 yen. We arranged them and took photos in the sunlight. The moment we opened the bag, there was a delicious smell of wheat. My wife and I shared them. Two types of sweet bean butter (chunky sweet bean, roasted green tea) Rare combination of two types of sweet bean butter! Butter on hard bread with chunky sweet bean and roasted green tea sweet bean! The main role is the French bread with a rich matcha flavor, harmonizing well with the butter. Kyoto dashi bread Rare bread with Japanese dashi! Bread made with bonito and kelp dashi, mixed with sakura shrimp. The flavor of the dashi comes out significantly, making it a delicious bread without any discomfort. Frui Seck Hard bread with nuts and walnuts! A heavy feeling with plenty of nuts and walnuts, providing a nice accent. Each type of bread at Wälder has a distinct personality. Wälder New bread with the shop's name! Sicilian orange and chocolate brioche! When warmed up, the chocolate melts, making a perfect match with Sicilian oranges! It's a very delicious bread. Husband, thank you for the meal! It was delicious! I will go again! Thank you very much for reading until the end. I hope this gourmet information can be a useful reference for everyone.

It used to be a shop in Yamashina, but after moving to the city center, it quickly became famous... and now it's even ranked in the top 100 on Tabelog. Inside the small shop, there are quite a variety of breads lined up, but it seems like there are few misses. This time, I chose two types of focaccia, "Mushroom and Spicy Cod Roe Focaccia" and "Four Kinds of Wiener Focaccia". The mushroom one had a mountain of mushrooms that crumbled as you ate, and the wiener one had curry embedded inside, which was an unexpected bonus. The taste was decent, and although they were a bit over 300 yen each, they had more substance than they appeared.

I visited the shop around 3:30 PM on a regular day. It is quietly located in a side street off the main street. I thought the selection might be limited since it was after 3:30 PM, but I was pleasantly surprised by the variety available. In addition to what is shown in the photo, they also had scones and small tarts. The Banana and Caramel Danish was a perfect match with its gooey banana and caramel sauce. The Chocolate and Raspberry Tart was delicious and priced at less than 200 yen, offering great value for its small size.

A bakery located southeast of Karasuma Oike in downtown Kyoto. The nearest station is Kyoto Karasuma Station. Hojicha Cream Pan ¥270, Custard Pie ¥324. The top of the Danish was crispy, while the bottom was soft. The custard cream was delicious, with a creamy texture and a sweet flavor. The Hojicha Cream Pan had a thick cream filling. The hojicha flavor was not too strong but still tasty. The bread was not dry at all and very delicious. I would like to try the Danish pastries soon.
