ボンパパ
As scheduled, it's been about six months since my last visit. This time, I was guided to a counter seat, and even upgraded to a center seat. I felt a bit embarrassed. There was a partition at the counter separating each group, which may be rare in Kyoto. Also, I noticed that the staff, other than the owner, had changed from last time. The main chef who handled about half of the dishes last time was no longer there, so most of the dishes this time were prepared by the owner. As a result, the enjoyable conversations with the owner were fewer this time. Nonetheless, the service and attention to customers were just as good as before. I had a great time once again! Plus, the dishes this time were very satisfying. This restaurant is definitely a good match for the Bon family. Now, onto the dishes:
- Amuse-bouche: cheese, borscht, prosciutto, etc.
- Smoked eel with quail egg (a signature dish)
- Chilled capellini with tuna, egg yolk, tomato, and rapeseed blossoms
- White asparagus with firefly squid and plum sauce
- Lobster with shiitake mushroom sauce and cilantro
- Salted beef tongue (similar to ham)
- Butterfish with spaghetti
- Kyoto beef tenderloin with bamboo shoots and veal sauce
- Chicken coconut curry
- Fiddlehead fern ice cream
- Strawberry tart
- Mint tea
A variety of delicious dishes, very satisfying. The kids also finished everything. This restaurant really suits the Bon family. However, there was a slight price increase this time, maybe around 2,000 yen. But considering the upgraded quality of the dishes, it was not a problem for me. Particularly, the quality of the steak was exceptional. It's been a while since I had such delicious tenderloin at an Italian restaurant. I won't reveal the name of the restaurant, but it's probably the best Italian restaurant in Kyoto after a very expensive one in Gion (about three times the price here). It doesn't compare to that place, but the tender and tasty meat was remarkable. Another significant change is that the lunch set, which used to be a great deal, now has almost the same content as the dinner course, resulting in a significant price increase. In Kyoto, price hikes are inevitable, so it's hard to say. It's important to include a reliable and satisfying restaurant in the Kyoto tour. I deeply felt that this time. Of course, trying new restaurants is exciting, but having a familiar and trusted place is the best. Maybe next time will be for the kids' birthday party again. I want to continue visiting this restaurant, but with the inevitable price hikes in Kyoto, I'll have to consult my wallet. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
