As of May 2022, the restaurant near Okubo Station with a sign saying "Yakitori & Bar" does not offer Japanese-style yakitori. During lunchtime, I visited the restaurant for the first time. There was a middle-aged Nepalese man as the only customer, and the service was provided by a Nepalese male staff member who was fluent in Japanese and also worked in the kitchen. In the background, a monitor displayed a still image of what seemed like a god, along with Hindu religious songs repeating "Hare Krishna" and Bollywood movie soundtracks sung by a female soprano. When I asked if yakitori was available, I was told it was not. Instead, I ordered the chicken sekuwa (¥750 tax included) and the A set of dal bhat (¥600) with lamb, as it seemed to have a larger portion than the sekuwa set I had seen in previous reviews. The dishes arrived in about 10 minutes. The rice, lentil soup with a mix of lentils, and sliced carrots with spicy pickled green chili were delicious when combined. The pickled green chili added heat, making me sweat. The pickled green chili tasted similar to the ones served in some South Indian meals I've had before. The stir-fried cauliflower and broccoli in the dal bhat set, which I don't often see in cheaper dal bhat options, were cooked perfectly. The boneless mutton curry in a soupy consistency had tender meat. Overall, the flavors seemed stronger, possibly because I had a similar homemade meal at a different restaurant last week. The chicken sekuwa, served on a sizzling hot plate with a generous portion, had a marinade similar to the barbecue chicken from Islamic Street's skewers. I declined the offer for more rice, as I preferred the boneless mutton in the dal bhat set over the chicken sekuwa. If I have the chance to visit again, I would like to try the mutton sekuwa.

A Nepalese restaurant run by Bangladeshis suddenly added a kebab shop. I decided to try it out as a quick dinner option after shopping for spices and herbs in Okubo. I got a kebab sandwich for ¥400. It's cheap. You can choose from sweet, medium spicy, spicy, or garlic flavors, but I asked for a mix of spicy and garlic. The kebab meat is only chicken. It's not bad, but I don't think I'll buy it again. If I want kebabs, I'll definitely go to the former Sarai Kebab nearby (maybe it's under a different name now) where the long lines speak for themselves.

It was just before midnight when I arrived at the Indian curry restaurant, Bajeko Sekwa Girl. When I got there, there were 3 groups of foreigners. Despite the late hour, the place was crowded with people coming and going. I had no prior information, so I ordered my favorite Sag Chicken with Cheese Naan on the side. The chicken pieces were quite large, making it a satisfying meal for late-night dining. The Sag Chicken had a slightly salty taste, and I personally preferred the Cheese Naan over the regular Naan. The male staff member was attentive and considerate, making sure everyone had everything they needed. Many of the foreign customers ordered the Dal Bhat, so I would like to try that next time. Sag Chicken Curry - 800 yen Cheese Naan - +250 yen

At Bajeko Sekuwa Ghar in Okubo, I had a set with samosa chat and sekuwa. When I first tried Dal Bhat, I didn't know how to use Golbheda Achar, and I still don't know, so I just pour it over rice now. It should be good to go with everything, right? It's a versatile seasoning.

Bajeko Sekuwa Ghar & Bar: Initially planned to go to Chatamari, but only the Halal food side was open with no staff present, so I decided to move. I looked at the menu and decided to try something different from the usual Dal Bhat. I ordered the Mutton Sekuwa Set for 900 rupees. It was served in about 35 minutes. The mutton Sekuwa was decent, but the Dal served with it at Salvis was incredibly delicious. I chose Chiura over rice, and although there were snacks mixed in, the amount was a bit challenging to chew alone, so the Dal saved the day. As I ate the fresh vegetables and chickpeas mixed in, I suddenly craved alcohol. This Asian restaurant in Okubo area set a new record for the longest serving time for me, but since I had no plans afterwards, I was able to wait patiently. (3.40)

Second visit. As it was my second time here, I didn't order any appetizers and just got a drink and the Sekwa set (1350 yen). However, when I ordered the Kukri Rum with soda, papad came out instead. It was crispy and delicious. The main set was luxurious with plenty of food, and the Sekwa had a nice firm texture. The dal had a simple taste, and the variety of achaars was good. They said you could have unlimited refills of rice and dal, but I couldn't eat that much. I would like to come back and try more dishes when I'm hungry again.

"BAJEKO SEKUWA GHAR" has moved from its old location near "FEWA Dining & Bar" to a spot right by the train tracks just outside the station in Okubo. This time, the order was similar to last time, starting with the marinated lamb cooked juicy on a mini iron plate, served with a side of Kukhura Rum on the rocks. The spicy Very Hot lamb (or chicken) curry was accompanied by Golbheda Ko Achar (tomato dip), Sag Buteko (stir-fried spinach), Papad (fried lentil bread), and cut vegetables. Despite requesting only the lamb to be spicy and the lentil soup to be normal, the dal (lentil soup) arrived with plenty of chili peppers. The A set, which includes the Nepali set meal "Dal Bhat," was thoroughly enjoyed. Bon appétit!

I had been to the previous location of the restaurant before, but hadn't been able to visit since it moved. The new location is quite close to the station, making it convenient even on rainy days. The interior seemed a bit smaller, but it was clean and comfortable. Although it was labeled as "yakitori & bar," it seems they no longer offer yakitori on the menu due to various reasons (laughs). The complimentary dish was impressive and the draft beer was reasonably priced at 380 yen. I started with ordering the mutton sekuwa, which was served sizzling hot on a hot plate and incredibly delicious. The panipuri had a flavor that I liked, but my friend thought the herb scent was too strong. The lollipops were large chicken pieces served with a spicy red sauce, which made them tasty. I also tried the chicken chow mein, which was like Nepalese-style yakisoba with a spicy sauce that paired well with alcohol. Although I forgot to take photos, I ended the meal with mutton biryani, which was flavorful and generous in portion. Finally, I had hot chai to finish off the meal. Despite indulging in food and drinks, the total cost was less than 2,000 yen per person! I left feeling full and satisfied with the delicious food. Overall, it was a great dining experience. [Rating] ★★★★★★★★ 8/10 [Certified as a great restaurant!!!]

Nowadays, there are countless Nepalese restaurants in the bustling Shin-Okubo and Okubo area. This particular restaurant is located right in front of Okubo Station North Exit, which is a great location. "Bajeko Sekwa Gar" serves Sekwa, which is similar to yakitori in Japan (although it doesn't have to be chicken). Gar means a drinking place. In other words, this is a casual Nepalese yakitori izakaya. When you open the menu, you will find a whole page dedicated to Sekwa, with photos of the dishes. The experience of preparing yourself to eat is born. - Old Durbar ¥450: Start with Nepalese whiskey "Old Durbar" with cola. It is a complimentary snack while waiting for the Sekwa to be ready. Soon, you will hear a sizzling sound from the kitchen. The Sekwa is finally here. - Mutton Sekwa ¥790: The Sekwa here is marinated meat grilled on skewers and then cooked on a hot plate with spices. It is juicy and spicy, a signature dish. - Biryani (Chicken) ¥790: Surprisingly, they also serve Biryani. The rice is moist and fragrant with rose water. It reminds me of the now-closed Dubai Biryani in Sakuradai. What was a pleasant surprise was that it came with double chicken, including rice cooked with chicken and two large skewers of Tandoori chicken. It's amazing. This was a lucky punch thanks to offering In-Nepa menu for lunch. - "Curry Cell" Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/CurryCell - Twitter "Curry Cell": @hm_currycell

I had a day off and was free, so I decided to book a room at APA Hotel in Higashi Shinjuku and have a casual solo drink in Shinjuku at night. I haven't had Nepalese food in a while, so I chose Nepalese cuisine for dinner! I walked from Meiji Street to Okubo Street towards Okubo Station. It was a nice walk. Shin-Okubo was really crowded! I was planning to have chow mein, but I decided to try the Sekuwa set. I also ordered a steamed momo and kukhura rum soda. I chose chicken curry and mutton for the Sekuwa. They also served papadum with the kukhura rum. The kukhura rum was delicious as always, with a slightly sweet aroma that was amazing. It was refreshing and easy to drink. The Sekuwa set was quite luxurious, with each dish having a good amount of food. The dal was delicious as usual. The chicken curry had bone-in meat that was flavorful. The vegetable curry had green peas and potatoes, which were tasty as well. I'm not sure what kind of green vegetable was in the saag. The amount was generous and satisfying. The Sekuwa had a spicy flavor with a good chewy texture. It was a great snack. The green chili achar had a sour and strong spicy taste, which added a nice touch when mixed. The momo was juicy and delicious, although the spice level was mild. I'll try the chow mein next time. It was a great meal.

Set (mutton) Dal Bhat!!! I wonder why I never get tired of eating Dal Bhat... I chose the mutton curry from the options of chicken, mutton, and vegetables recommended by my friend! The bone-in mutton was delicious... I had the choice of naan or rice, but since it's Dal Bhat, I went with rice without hesitation!! Dal is usually on the sweeter side, but the Dal here was pleasantly spicy!! It was delicious... The achar had a strong mustard flavor that tingled in the nose, which was amazing. On the other hand, the greens were slightly sweet with a good umami flavor!! It was a high-quality Dal Bhat. I can't believe this was only 600 yen... Also, the staff actively refilled my water! It's a Nepalese thing, haha. The restaurant is small, but there was a pair of curry enthusiasts who seemed to be enjoying Dal Bhat, making it a hidden gem kind of place!

It's been quite a while since they moved to the north exit of Okubo Station. I finally went there. I ordered the Mutton Choela and A Set with Mutton Curry. The Mutton Choela has a refreshing sourness and spiciness that is really good - delicious! It contains chopped chili peppers and garlic, but the spiciness is not too strong. The Dal Bhat has a lot of rice. The dal is quite light and you can feel the mellow taste of the beans. The shape of the beans is quite visible. It's delicious. And it's piping hot. The Mutton Curry has bone-in meat. It has a strong spice flavor but the spiciness is mild. It's a delicious Mutton Curry with a lot of umami. The radish achar is a bit soft. It has a sour taste and is delicious. The Tarkari has cauliflower, potatoes, and something else. In terms of texture, it's like soft radish or winter melon. Unusual?? It has a sweet seasoning and is soothing. I had a bit of rice, got a refill of dal, and was completely full. The male staff here has a nice smile. Thank you for the meal.

#Bajeko Sekuwa Garu A Nepali restaurant just 5 seconds walk from Okubo Station! This time I tried the A set of Dal Bhat for 600 yen! I chose chicken for the curry, which comes with mutton, chicken, and vegetable curry. The set includes dal (lentil curry), rice, salad, and achar (pickle). You can have seconds of dal and rice! The dal has more lentils compared to other restaurants and is quite delicious! #OkuboGourmet #ShinOkuboGourmet

I got off at Okubo to have my first Dal Bhat of the year♪ I came across a place called Sekwa=Kushiyaki (the sign said Yakitori ^^) and I also wanted to try it. I found a menu called Sekwa Set, which seemed like a straightforward choice. I had chicken curry, chicken Sekwa (grilled chicken skewers), plenty of meat, lots of vegetables in the Tarkari, and had seconds of Dal. It was a classic satisfying meal. While I enjoyed the Sag by removing the garlic, I received feedback from my family at home that there was a strong garlic smell. Except for the owner, the customers were all Nepalese, and I enjoyed the well-seasoned Nepalese cuisine. I wish I had come here sooner♪ When I left the restaurant, it started snowing lightly, and I realized that I was right in front of JR Okubo Station.

There was a shop that appeared in front of Okubo Station. It says "yakitori" but it's actually Sekuwa. The interior is cozy with mainly booth seats, perfect for leisurely eating and drinking. Since it's yakitori, it's a good place for drinking. I ordered the Nepalese appetizer set, Kaja Set. You can choose between chicken or mutton for the main curry and Sekuwa, and I chose mutton for both. They were both delicious, making it a great appetizer. With this, you can drink as much as you want. The staff, although still learning Japanese, is friendly and eager. Conversations go smoothly with a mix of English. When I ordered a whiskey highball, it came with lemon and tasted like a whiskey highball with oolong tea, which is common in these types of shops. It was interesting and surprisingly not bad. They also have Khukuri Rum, making it a great place for drinking. It's reassuring that the station is right in front, even if you get drunk. It's a place worth remembering for Nepalese drinking in Okubo.

In front of Ookayama Station North Exit, there is a small Indian-Nepalese restaurant called "Bajeko Sekwaghar". On the second floor of a nearby building, there is another restaurant, Momo Ookayama, where you can enjoy South Asian cuisine. The previous location was closer to Kotakibashi Street, and the atmosphere, including the terrace, was better there. After the relocation, I visited for the first time. I chose the C set lunch menu, which includes two types of curry and dal soup. The unique sign "Yakitori & Bar" above the entrance caught my eye as I entered the restaurant, where there were no customers despite it being lunchtime. I selected the "Spinach Chicken" and "Mutton" curries with "Nan" instead of rice, and chose the maximum spiciness level. The order took 30 minutes to be served, and the presentation was neat with curry, soup, and salad in a thali plate. The mutton curry had a thick consistency and rich flavor, while the spinach chicken curry had a milder spiciness with a hint of bitterness from the spinach. The dal soup was also thick with a good level of spiciness. The large nan bread was delicious with a sweet taste and buttery flavor. I enjoyed dipping it in the curries. I had to skip the lassi drink as I needed to rush back to work, but the staff later brought it out from the back of the restaurant. Overall, the food was satisfying despite the long wait, and I had to quickly head back to work without fully savoring the meal.

Daikubo's Bajeko Sekuwa Garu for Dal Bhat. It's been a while since I visited Daikubo Nepal. I haven't been able to go to Daikubo recently, and Bajeko Sekuwa Garu was on my to-do list. There are three restaurants with Sekuwa Garu in their name - Sekuwa Garu, Gaule Restaurant & Sekuwa Garu, and Bajeko Sekuwa Garu. Finally, I was able to visit all three. The world of Sekuwa Garu is deep! By the way, Sekuwa Garu means "grilled skewers" and "home or hometown" in Nepali. Bajeko Sekuwa Garu recently moved within Daikubo and is now only 5 seconds away from the station. Too close. And the main attraction, Dal Bhat. Dal Bhat is a Nepali set meal consisting of dal (bean soup) and bhat (rice). It also comes with main curry, achar, and various other side dishes. And all this for about 600 yen with free refills - amazing! This time, I chose the B set with a drink and ordered mutton curry. The drink, of course, was lassi. Perfect! And it arrived. This is it! Dal Bhat! Basmati rice, mutton curry, dal soup, tarkari, achar, vegetables. First, remove all the dishes from the thali (large plate) and katari (small plate) before starting to eat! First, the dal. It's like Nepali miso soup. The dal here is delicious! It's moderately spicy and easy to drink. It goes well with rice. The mutton curry is reliably delicious. It's full of meat chunks. This is top-notch. Really delicious. The tarkari is a spiced stir-fried vegetable dish with lots of potatoes, and it's delicious! It goes well with the curry! You can have as many refills as you want, and what's amazing about Bajeko is that normally, you can't have refills of the main curry or if you can, it's only the soup without the ingredients. But here, they let you have refills of the meat as well! That's incredible service! I'm grateful. Finally, I mixed everything together and enjoyed it to the last bite. Be careful with refills, as you might end up too full. When you ask for a refill of rice, they bring a big plate and keep adding until you say stop, but it's a tradition that even after you say stop, they might add more. Be careful. When I went, there weren't many Nepalis, so I couldn't feel the local atmosphere, which was disappointing, but later, when local people and people from Bangladesh arrived, I was able to enjoy the foreign atmosphere. This is the best of Daikubo Nepal! It was amazing!

I visited Okubo again, this time in late June when the rainy season had ended and it was a bit drier and hotter. Compared to last week, today was still bearable. I chose the A set menu for ¥600, with chicken curry. After ordering, I carefully looked at the menu and found interesting items like the Sekwa set and the luxurious set over ¥1000, as well as Biryani. I don't like focusing on the same thing all the time, so I'll try something different next time. This time, the rice was quite soggy and not tasty. The curry and soup were not extremely hot. It was a bit different from the carefully prepared dish I had last time. The salad was stir-fried vegetables, which I personally prefer. I ended up leaving half of the rice uneaten, and maybe because it was my second visit, the excitement was not as strong, so I gave a lower score compared to last time.

Just a few seconds walk from the north exit of Okubo Station on the JR Chuo-Sobu Line, there is a Nepalese restaurant called Bajeko Sekwa Ghar. I visited for lunch on a weekday and there was only one other customer. The interior is like a pub, with a few small tables. The lunch menu has 4 options (A-D) and you can choose from 8 types of curry. I chose the "B set 850 yen" which came with curry, naan or rice, salad, chicken tikka, and a drink. I opted for mango lassi. I waited about 15 minutes for my food. The curry was probably medium spicy and the chicken was well-cooked and tasty. The chicken tikka was well-seasoned and a good size for eating. The naan was crispy rather than fluffy. My companion ordered cheese naan, which had a lot of cheese. The curry was delicious and I would like to try the seekh kebab and tandoori chicken next time. They only accept cash for payment.

I was looking at reviews of Indian restaurants in Okubo and came across this one, which seemed easy to get to. The lunch was only ¥600, which was very appealing. I opted for the ¥850 set with a drink included! The restaurant is on the first floor and has a welcoming atmosphere. There were only 2 other customers when I arrived. They had a set with curry and naan, but I prefer rice lately so I chose the rice set. I had the mutton curry, which came with vegetable curry and dal curry. There was a red spicy sauce that I wasn't sure how to use, but I tried it with the curry and on the papad. It had a refreshing spiciness that I enjoyed. The rice and curry were served piping hot, which made me very happy. The presentation of the rice was beautiful, I couldn't stop admiring it (laughs). The portion of rice was generous and I couldn't finish it all. The dal curry was light but spicy and very delicious. The vegetable curry was fairly average. The mutton curry had a rich flavor that I really liked. The alcohol didn't seem too expensive, so it seems like a good place for a spicy drink as well.

The Dal Bhat here was quite delicious. Located right in front of the west exit of Okubo Station, you can reach it in 2 seconds without needing an umbrella even in the rain. The interior of the restaurant is small but clean, and the Nepalese brother who runs the place alone is handsome and kind, leaving a good impression. Most of the other customers are also Nepalese. Although they only offer an Indian set menu for lunch, there is a Dal Bhat set menu available on the back of the grand menu, which is served for both lunch and dinner. I ordered the A set for 600 yen with a spicy mutton curry. It came with mutton curry, dal, rice, and salad. I was surprised to see three curry dishes, but they all looked delicious, so I just went with it. The mutton curry was amazing, despite being a bit difficult to eat with the bones. The dal was also hot and flavorful, with a nice aroma. The vegetable curry was packed with vegetables, including large cuts of cauliflower, providing a satisfying meal. Mixing in the spicy achar also added to the deliciousness. I've had Dal Bhat at various places, but this one is top-notch. There is also a Momo Okubo shop next door, which is also delicious, making it hard to decide where to go for repeat visits in Okubo, where there are so many tasty options. When I thanked the brother for the delicious meal, he seemed genuinely happy. His bright and kind smile was nice to see.
