『100 Famous Shops Tour in Asakusa』【No.1】
◇Today, I decided to do a little "sightseeing" while visiting 100 famous shops. Although I have passed by many times, I have never properly explored Asakusa, so I decided to go there. I took the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line from Ueno Station to Asakusa Station, and my first stop was at "Kameju," a traditional Japanese sweets shop.
◇I started with a dorayaki today! The weather was nice, with lingering summer heat. I walked energetically.
【Nearest Station/Location】
◇I recommend taking the 1st exit at Asakusa Station (Tokyo Metro Ginza Line). As soon as you exit the station, you will be near the Kaminarimon Gate, and the shop is located across the street.
【Purchase Method】
◇Only takeout is available. You line up at the counter inside the store to place your order.
【Visit Time/Day】
◇I arrived on a Monday around 11:40 AM. There were over 10 people in line inside the store, but it moved quickly, taking less than 10 minutes.
【Ordered Item】
◇I ordered the "Azuki Dorayaki (390 yen including tax)." Although it was labeled as such on the display shelf, regular customers seemed to refer to it as "black" and "white" dorayaki, with "black" being azuki and "white" being white bean paste.
【Dorayaki Impressions】
◇I purchased it for takeout and had it as dessert after dinner at home. The most notable feature is its "fluffy texture similar to pancakes!" Even when sliced, the dorayaki is so fluffy that the knife goes through easily.
◇The red bean paste is made of whole beans, with occasional large pieces, but it is easy to eat without the skin getting stuck. The red bean paste is on the sweeter side, but it complements the fluffy texture of the pancake well, making it delicious and easy to finish.
【Special Notes】
◇It is quite large, almost the size of a Big Mac! The volume of the pancake is substantial, packed with red bean paste. However, at 390 yen each, it feels a bit pricey for a traditional Japanese sweet. Compared to dorayaki from certain domestic confectionery companies that sell for just over 100 yen at supermarkets, it is almost four times the price. Nonetheless, the encounter with this "fluffy pancake dorayaki" is truly impressive.
◇I believe it would make a great souvenir, so if you ever visit Asakusa, be sure to try it out!
