I visited Sanryutei for the first time in 30 years since returning to my hometown. I had beer and grilled dumplings, delicious garlic chives stir-fry, and ramen with half-fried rice. Everything was delicious. The taste brought back memories of the past. It's nice that the taste hasn't changed at all. I'm happy to see the uncle and auntie still doing well. Please continue to stay healthy and do your best. Thank you for the meal.

June 4, 2022. It's the weekend Saturday and I decided to go shopping in Tokyo. I lost my coin purse this week, so it's been quite inconvenient. I'm heading to Nakano where I previously purchased one, but since I'm already out, I'll make a detour to Ogikubo where there's a shop I've been eyeing for a while. I walked from Ogikubo Station towards Shime Michi Crossing on Ome Kaido. Along the way, I found a shop, but unfortunately, it was closed for the day. Oh well, it happens! I'll just come back another time. I retraced my steps and went to a place called "Sanryutei." The exterior of the place is just classic and charming! It's the epitome of a local Chinese restaurant. I was seated at the counter by the entrance. I ordered Wonton Men for 690 yen and half Gyoza for 310 yen. I've been eating a lot of Wonton Men lately... The Wonton Men arrived, and the presentation was just fantastic. I took a sip of the soup and it wasn't what I expected... It was more like an old-fashioned, light broth, almost like a diluted soup rather than the typical Ogikubo Ramen flavor. The noodles were hand-kneaded, slightly curled, medium-thin Chinese noodles, which were good. The Wontons were filled with minced meat and there were plenty of them, with a chewy texture. The other toppings included pork, bamboo shoots, fish cake, and seaweed, like a Chinese-style ramen. The pork was boiled pork leg meat, thick and satisfying. The Gyoza was served in a wild presentation with a nice crisp, and the filling of pork, cabbage, and chives was well-balanced and tasty. It's important to have simple ramen like this alongside the famous Ogikubo Ramen in the area. If all the ramen shops in Ogikubo had the same flavor, it would get boring. It was a good meal.

This is an old town Chinese restaurant located near Yonmen Michi, a short walk from the north exit of Ogikubo Station along Ome Kaido. They have a wide variety of menu items, including classic dishes like chicken katsu and various noodles. I decided what to eat by looking at the menu samples displayed inside the glass. I ordered the mapo tofu set, which was very distinctive with a unique flavor similar to spicy miso, and a color that was not the typical red of mapo tofu. It was surprisingly delicious and went well with rice.

I entered a Chinese restaurant that looked very traditional along Ome Kaido street within walking distance from Ogikubo Station. The menu included classic items like ramen and stir-fried leek and liver. Today, I ordered mapo tofu. The mapo tofu set meal included rice, pickles, miso soup, and mapo tofu. The mapo tofu was slightly unique - it was not the usual red color but had a brownish tint. It seemed like they used miso instead of doubanjiang. The combination of meat and miso gave it a rich flavor. The miso soup was a nice change from the typical Chinese soup. The rice was slightly firm, which I personally enjoy. The portion was quite generous, and I left feeling full.

I visited this restaurant for dinner on a weekday evening. It seems like a place where solo male diners come for dinner. They offer not only Chinese dishes but also curry and various set meals for under 1,000 yen. This time, I had ramen and half fried rice for 880 yen including tax. The ramen was a soy sauce-based Chinese noodle soup. The fried rice was moist and had a nice texture, more like a stir-fried rice. The portions were generous and satisfying. Eating dinner while watching TV made me feel relaxed and comfortable. Thank you for the meal.

It is located a short walk from Ogikubo Station. I visited for dinner on a weekday. The interior has a counter and table seats, with a TV in the middle. There was disinfectant spray on the tables. I had wonton noodles. It had a traditional taste to it.

I visited this old-fashioned restaurant during my lunchtime stroll in Ogikubo, where I stumbled upon it while wandering around. The place was almost full when I entered. I ordered half portion of curry ramen, which was a special feature of this restaurant where you can order half portions of noodles or rice to get a discounted price. They also offered thick noodles as an option, but I chose regular ones this time. The soup was a light soy sauce-based broth with curry roux on top, giving it a slightly thick consistency. It was a satisfying meal.

I found a Chinese restaurant in town and ordered a set of Tanmen and half fried rice. The taste was nostalgic, for better or for worse. Thank you for the meal.

At Sanryotei for the second round. Stir-fried meat and vegetables, grilled dumplings, crab omelette, ramen with half fried rice. Extremely delicious. I've been eating this taste since I was a child. I hope this restaurant continues to thrive and stay lively. Thank you for the meal.

This is an old-fashioned Chinese restaurant located at the north exit of Ogikubo Station. I had the meat and vegetable stir-fry set meal. The seasoning was just right, with a simple Chinese-style meat and vegetable stir-fry. The rice, miso soup, and side cucumber pickles were also delicious, and I was very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

Before going to the bath, I went to the restaurant. Inside, there were two salarymen drinking in the evening. There were no other customers, so I wondered how it would be as I took my seat. When I entered the restaurant, the door sign said ramen for 490 yen, but the menu inside said 590 yen, so I was unsure which one was correct. I ordered ramen and half a gyoza. At first, I felt the soup of the ramen was lacking, but the noodles had a great firmness. As I continued eating, the flavor gradually became satisfying, with a rich and delicious taste coming through. I thought it was honestly tastier than a certain famous high-end restaurant. Like many places, I didn't have high expectations for the gyoza, but although I felt a little unsatisfied at first, it gradually became delicious, and in the end, I thought it was tasty. I will definitely visit again.

Ogikubo Ramen Quest Ogikubo Ramen Quest is a hidden gem of a traditional Chinese restaurant tucked away under a pedestrian bridge, not very noticeable from the street. I only recently discovered this place and decided to check it out. The restaurant is run by a kind landlady and her husband in the kitchen. It's nice to see a couple working together like this. I ordered the Tanmen because I've been told I need more vegetables in my diet. The Tanmen was packed with vegetables and had a depth of flavor that was really enjoyable. The broth was light yet flavorful, and the fried rice was crispy and delicious. The scene of the husband running the kitchen alone while his wife was out on a delivery reminded me of a soccer game, with the husband playing both defense and offense. Overall, I would rate Ogikubo Ramen Quest with 3 out of 3 Ogikubo Ramen points for its unique charm and delicious food.

In front of Suginami Public Hall, there is a block where Chinese restaurants, eel restaurants, yakiniku (grilled meat) restaurants, and izakayas are concentrated. Sanryutei is a restaurant facing Ome Kaido street, with a typical appearance of a "local Chinese restaurant". Upon entering for the first time, you will see the kitchen on the right, a counter in front of it, table seating behind it, and more table seating at the back of the restaurant. I ordered a set of ramen and half-fried rice. The ramen and fried rice that came out gave a nostalgic impression. The ramen was soy sauce-based, with a caramel color and a slightly transparent appearance, giving the impression that it contained artificial seasonings. The noodles were thin and straight, the chashu (roast pork) was thick with less fat and more meat, accompanied by seaweed and menma (seasoned bamboo shoots). The taste matched the appearance. The fried rice was also like what you would typically get at a ramen shop. The customers seemed to be mostly men, and you could easily imagine Mr. Koike from the ghost-themed anime "Obake no Q-taro" sitting at the back enjoying his ramen. The ramen and half-fried rice cost 720 yen (special service price for that day), which also felt like a throwback to the Showa era.

On Friday, May 29, 2015, in Sugibami-Ward, Tokyo, I visited Sanryutei for the first time since I was a fourth-year university student living nearby between 1983 and 1988. I ordered the yakiniku set meal (¥850), which was my go-to dish back then. The yakiniku sauce was slightly sweet with a hint of spiciness. While it tasted quite good back in the day, it didn't seem as flavorful as it did then. Nevertheless, it was still a satisfying taste experience. The flavors may not have changed much over the years, even though my taste buds have. It might be nice to add some ginger or other elements to enhance the taste. The meat was of average quality, but the portion size was adequate. The only side vegetable provided was shredded cabbage, just like it was 30 years ago. The rice portion was quite large, similar to a double serving. If I were to order another set meal next time, I would definitely opt for a smaller rice portion. Overall, as a local diner, Sanryutei is a reliable option, although the prices may be slightly higher by around ¥50. If you want to eat plenty of rice, then this place is no problem. I personally found the taste enjoyable and felt reasonably satisfied after the meal. While I'm not confident in recommending it to others, I was personally content. I would rate it 75 points, 3.2 stars. I plan to try the noodles next time, as my interest in them has grown since the 1980s. As a side note, when I passed by Yoshida Curry, I noticed a long line outside. As I was short on time, I stuck to my original plan and revisited Sanryutei, a place that holds nostalgic flavors for me. The restaurant still allows smoking, which was a bit concerning even though I used to smoke back in the day. I hope Sanryutei continues to thrive in the future.
