On Friday, May 29, 2015, in Sugibami-Ward, Tokyo, I visited Sanryutei for the first time since I was a fourth-year university student living nearby between 1983 and 1988. I ordered the yakiniku set meal (¥850), which was my go-to dish back then. The yakiniku sauce was slightly sweet with a hint of spiciness. While it tasted quite good back in the day, it didn't seem as flavorful as it did then. Nevertheless, it was still a satisfying taste experience. The flavors may not have changed much over the years, even though my taste buds have. It might be nice to add some ginger or other elements to enhance the taste. The meat was of average quality, but the portion size was adequate. The only side vegetable provided was shredded cabbage, just like it was 30 years ago. The rice portion was quite large, similar to a double serving. If I were to order another set meal next time, I would definitely opt for a smaller rice portion. Overall, as a local diner, Sanryutei is a reliable option, although the prices may be slightly higher by around ¥50. If you want to eat plenty of rice, then this place is no problem. I personally found the taste enjoyable and felt reasonably satisfied after the meal. While I'm not confident in recommending it to others, I was personally content. I would rate it 75 points, 3.2 stars. I plan to try the noodles next time, as my interest in them has grown since the 1980s. As a side note, when I passed by Yoshida Curry, I noticed a long line outside. As I was short on time, I stuck to my original plan and revisited Sanryutei, a place that holds nostalgic flavors for me. The restaurant still allows smoking, which was a bit concerning even though I used to smoke back in the day. I hope Sanryutei continues to thrive in the future.
