After visiting the Heian Shrine for Hatsumode, I always make a stop at the traditional sweets shop nearby. La Vacherie is a pastry shop where you can enjoy the most delicious Tart Tatin in Kyoto, following a recipe passed down from generation to generation. The shop is located right next to the Heian Shrine, close to the Kyoto City Museum, making it a convenient place to take a break. The retro and nostalgic atmosphere of the shop blends in perfectly with the ancient city of Kyoto. I love their Tart Tatin! It's a sweet and sour tart made with apples cooked slowly in butter and sugar, creating a rich and delightful filling. In addition to the Tart Tatin, they also offer Opera cake and Walnut Tart. The three-dimensional menu looks like something out of a French storybook, which I absolutely adore. The Tart Tatin cake set costs 1397 yen, and the set includes a choice of various drinks like coffee, cafe au lait, milk, black tea, organic Darjeeling, Uva, flavored tea, chamomile (caffeine-free), and rooibos (caffeine-free). I usually go for the caramel and apple flavored tea, which pairs perfectly with the Tart Tatin. The shop also has a lovely corner dedicated to the late Yuriko Matsunaga, the previous owner, honoring her legacy. Every year, they decorate the shop with apple swag wreaths, adding a touch of elegance. La Vacherie is a must-visit place after visiting the Heian Shrine, and I've grown to love it even more since their renovation. Thank you for the delicious treats!

I visited a restaurant known for its delicious Tarte Tatin. I arrived around 4pm on a weekday and although the place was busy, I was able to get a table without waiting. I ordered a cup of tea and Tarte Tatin, which cost around ¥1,400 for the cake set. The taste was really delicious. I had never tried Tarte Tatin before, but the apples were soft and the flavor was different from apple pie.

An elegant cafe quietly standing. I ordered the cake set with the classic Tarte Tatin and a hot coffee. The Tarte Tatin was warm, soft enough to crumble, and had a perfect balance of sourness and sweetness. You can relax and take a break inside the stylish cafe, so if you stop by for afternoon tea time, you will surely feel calm. The sofa near the entrance window is rare as it allows you to sit and watch the street. It seems to be a popular place among women.

Around 3:30 pm on a regular day, there were only about 2 groups in the restaurant. They didn't have the Opera cake available. I ordered the walnut cake and the Tarte Tatin. The walnut cake was a bit hard in texture. The Tarte Tatin was served with yogurt on top. The total cost for the drink set was 2560 yen.

I visited before noon on a weekday. There was only one other group in the restaurant. I ordered the Tarte Tatin. It was my first time trying Tarte Tatin, and it was delicious. The soft sweetness of the apples and the caramelized bitterness paired well together. It seems less crowded on weekdays, so if you want a relaxing experience, weekdays might be better.

It is located about a 10-minute walk from Jingumaruta-machi Station. I took out a Tart Tatin and ate it chilled. The type of apple used varies depending on the season, and right now it's made with Sun Fuji apples. The apples are soft and the natural sweetness is delicious. The taste is simple and very good. The caramel on the edges is rich and slightly bitter, and the crunchy texture of the caramel was also delicious. It can last for about 3 days, which is convenient.

Before eating, I had the impression that it would be very sweet with butter and sugar, but it was actually pleasantly sweet and sour. It was very easy to eat. It's nice that it's made with yogurt instead of whipped cream. I didn't know that Tarte Tatin could be this delicious. It's located near Heian Shrine and museums. I would love to visit this cute salon again.

Visited at 6:00 PM on June 24, 2023. "LA VOITURE" is a sweets shop that has been selected as one of the top 100 shops in a row. While you can also use it as a cafe, today I opted for takeout. The highlight of "LA VOITURE" is their Tarte Tatin, a French apple tart. Tatin actually refers to the name of the person who created it. Today, I purchased one slice each of Tarte Tatin (¥793) and Walnut Tart (¥594). I will enjoy them in my hotel room. The tart has a firm crust. The Tatin has a rich apple flavor with a slightly bitter taste, making it a sophisticated treat. The Walnut Tart also has a rich caramel-like flavor with a hint of bitterness, offering a sweet yet mature taste. Despite their small size, both tarts are rich and satisfying, and they were both delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Cafe with an antique atmosphere near Heian Shrine. Selected as one of the "Top 100 Sweets in the West" in the 2022 Tabelog rankings. I've been wanting to try their Tarte Tatin for a while now! I had the Tarte Tatin and flavored tea. The apple was perfectly sweet and delicious. The teacup was also lovely.
Amount spent: 1,400 yen
Rating: 4.5 stars

Located a 5-minute walk from Jingumarutaicho Station, "LA VOITURE" is a place where you can order items individually once you are seated. The items ordered (* indicates particularly liked items): ・Tarte Tatin Cake set ¥1397 This menu was prominently displayed on the first page and seemed to be a specialty, so I decided to order it. There was also a walnut cake option to choose from. You can enjoy it with yogurt on top according to your preference. The cake had a dense texture, and personally, I preferred it without yogurt. Some people also opted for takeout, indicating its popularity. There was a variety of drink options to choose from, with a good selection of black tea. Ice cream was also available. Despite being located near a tourist spot, there were many solo diners, and I was able to enter without waiting in line. ------Useful Memo------ *As of the visit date *Discovered the shop while passing by ①QUICPay is accepted (PayPay not accepted) ---------------------------

I originally went for the Orbera, but it was sold out that day, so I ordered the famous Tarte Tatin instead. It was slightly burnt, leaving a bitter taste, but when combined with the sweetness of the pear, it was a perfect match. The sweetness was just right. The tea was also delicious.

Now, let's talk about Kyoto. This time, there was only one Shinkansen train per hour, so it took three times longer than usual to get there. During our usual snack time, we visited the famous tart shop La Vacheure. We tried their Tart Tatin, Walnut Tart, and Ice Coffee. Of course, the Tart Tatin was delicious, but the Walnut Tart was also very tasty. Thank you for the meal.

I took a bus from Kyoto Station to get there. I got on the city bus 206 heading to Higashiyama-dori/Kita-oji Bus Terminal and got off at Okazaki Park. It's about a 5-6 minute walk from there. It was around 3:30 pm on a weekday. There was no line, so I was able to enter smoothly. I ordered a takeout of Tart Tatin and only had a drink inside the shop. The interior of the shop is cute and retro. I had a coffee for 638 yen (tax included) and the Tart Tatin to go. The calm atmosphere made me want to linger longer with just the coffee. When I got home, I warmed up the Tart Tatin in the microwave for about 40 seconds the next day. The apples were soft and disappeared before I knew it. It had a delicious balance of sweetness, sourness, and a hint of bitterness.

I revisited while taking a walk around Heian Shrine and enjoyed a tart tatin with an iced coffee. I was happy that I timed it just right this time. After walking about 3 kilometers, I drank the iced coffee all at once. The tart tatin also went well with the coffee.笑

We visited the restaurant in the afternoon with two people. We arrived at Heian Jingu, about a 15-minute walk from Higashiyama Station on the subway. The cherry blossom trees along the river were very beautiful. The Tarte Tatin Darjeeling Apple is a variety with a strong sweetness, and you can choose from sweet and sour varieties. The apple is soft and easy to cut with a fork. Yogurt is served on the side, so we enjoyed it little by little. The Opera cake also looked delicious, but it was sold out that day. We had a relaxing time. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived around 12:30 on a regular day. There was no line outside. I bought a Tart Tatin to go, which needed to be refrigerated. After carrying it around for a few hours, the sticky part melted and stuck to the paper. The tart felt heavy but was thin, with about 90% apples. The apples were cooked to a soft, almost toothless texture, and the taste was pure apple without any cinnamon or other spices. I warmed half of it in the microwave for a few seconds, but it tasted better cold, allowing me to enjoy the apple flavor and juiciness. It was really delicious.
