Hello! It's Ramen Walking! Today is Cafe Day~ I went to a cafe called Karyo Renka in Karasuma-Oike and had "shaved ice". It was a hot day in Kyoto, and after feeling exhausted from the first shop with a long line under the scorching sun, I searched for a famous cafe to recharge. Kyoto is known for its many famous cafes and dessert shops. I found a charming shaved ice shop nearby and decided to visit. On the way, I noticed a crowd and realized it was the Gion Festival today! That explained the many tourists. I always research the shops I visit, but I often overlook local events. I'll make sure to check those as well in the future. I arrived at 13:28. The cozy traditional house-style store was appealing. Luckily, no waiting. The sign at the entrance said "Shaved ice will be served from 13:30", so the timing was perfect. I ordered the Shaved Ice for 1,450 yen. It was a refreshing shaved ice with orange, lemon, and grapefruit pulp covered in syrup made from fermented peels. The texture of the pulp was enjoyable, and the sweet and sour taste was delicious. The pulp was only on the surface, but the syrup was evenly distributed inside. It seemed like a lot of effort went into shaping this "work of art". The side of black sugar ginger honey added a spicy kick to the sweet shaved ice. I thought it was a nice touch to add it gradually to each spoonful of ice. The ambiance of the cafe was calm and perfect for leisurely enjoying the shaved ice. Thank you, Cafe Karyo Renka! I visited during a national holiday teatime. Luckily, I was seated right away without having to wait. The exterior of the shop looks like a traditional Japanese house and the interior has a calm atmosphere, making it a good place for a date. I was torn between ordering shaved ice and coffee jelly, but this time I went with the coffee jelly parfait. The slightly bitter jelly combined with the ice cream and cream was not too sweet and very delicious. By the time I left the shop, the shaved ice was sold out, so I recommend coming early. Thank you for the meal.

I stopped by because I was craving shaved ice. It was past 3 pm when I arrived, so I was prepared for it to be sold out, but luckily there was still one flavor left, so I ordered it. The honey was rich and delicious, and the toppings of ginger and lemon were a perfect match! I was seated at the counter, and the air conditioning was blowing directly on me, so by the end I was freezing. They offer hot water if you ask, but it's a bit difficult to cover up the coldness from the direct air conditioning. I later regretted not asking for my drink to be served hot!笑

I visited the restaurant for shaved ice. There were two types of shaved ice available, but only one was left at 3pm on a weekday. I chose the citrus flavored shaved ice, topped with black honey and lemon. It didn't get too watery even as it melted, and I enjoyed it until the last bite!

I visited Cafe Karirenge in Kyoto. It was a bit hard to find as there was no sign, but it had a retro atmosphere in a traditional Kyoto townhouse. I tried the "Rich Matcha Milk Cake" and "Tachibana Juice." The Matcha Milk Cake had a perfect balance of white chocolate and matcha flavors, with a soft and moist texture. The Tachibana Juice, made from fermented citrus syrup, was refreshing and paired well with the cake. I also learned that their popular shaved ice uses the same syrup, so I plan to try that next time. Overall, I had a delicious and relaxing time in this nostalgic and cozy cafe. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

After lunch, I visited a nearby cafe called "Karinohana" for dessert. This was a place I couldn't visit often due to my days off, but I was able to go this time because of the Obon holiday! I arrived around 1:30 PM. Since it's a popular place, I thought it might be crowded, but I was able to get in right away. Lucky me. I was seated at a table near the entrance. The interior is not very spacious, but it has a retro atmosphere of a Kyoto townhouse which is very soothing. Their shaved ice is famous and tends to sell out quickly, but we ordered the Matcha Milk Cake, the Black Sugar Charcoal Roasted Coffee Jelly Ice Parfait for coffee lovers, and an Iced Coffee. It's a one-drink system. The coffee jelly and cream topped with rice crackers instantly give it a Japanese touch! The crunchy texture of the coffee jelly with a slightly bitter taste, along with the cream, is just delicious. I also had a bite of my partner's cake, which was a moist matcha cake and also good! More and more customers kept coming in, but some would leave upon hearing that there was no shaved ice. It's a popular cafe with a cozy atmosphere where you can easily end up staying longer than planned. But it's time to head back. I will definitely visit this place again. Thank you for the meal.

I went to a popular shaved ice shop in the back alley to cool off from the summer heat. Unfortunately, they were sold out of shaved ice, but I decided to try their Charcoal Roasted Coffee Jelly Ice Parfait instead. It came with a mini coffee on the side. The parfait was delicious, with plenty of coffee jelly and ice cream, topped with whipped cream and black syrup. The coffee served in a teacup added a nice touch. I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and quality time spent in this Kyoto cafe, even though they were out of shaved ice. Highly recommended!

It was a bit hard to find as it was tucked away in a corner of the street. I arrived around 13:00 and the place was about 40% full. I sat at the counter in the middle and found out they didn't have shaved ice, so I ordered the recommended tachibana juice instead. It arrived in about 14 minutes and was a citrusy juice that was quite sweet and delicious. The atmosphere was calm with background music playing. I relaxed for a bit before realizing I should head home before falling asleep. I paid 680 yen with PayPay and headed towards Keihan Sanjo Station.

Located in Yanagi Hachiman-cho, between Karasuma Oike Station and Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station, this café is a renovated space in a traditional Kyoto townhouse. They offer lunch sets (curry) during the day and homemade sweets and drinks in the afternoon. Their popular summer treat is the "shaved ice" served from late June to late September. The establishment, known as "Kari Renka," has been in operation since an unknown time but has been run by the current owner since December 2021. The name means "a lotus flower blooming in the fire" and symbolizes blooming beautifully even in unfavorable conditions. The café is about a 6-minute walk from Karasuma Oike Station and Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae Station. It is located just off Oike Street, down Yaginobamba Street, on the left-hand side just before Anekoji Street. There is a sign at the entrance of the alley, so it is easy to find. Reservations are available on weekdays. The "shaved ice" is served from 1:30 pm until sold out, typically around 3 pm. I visited in the afternoon and enjoyed the serene atmosphere of the café. The interior is cozy with a lovely traditional Japanese garden at the back. The café is run by the owner couple, who were welcoming and friendly despite being busy with orders for the shaved ice. The menu includes shaved ice, sweets, coffee, and other drinks. I ordered the shaved ice and was impressed by its elegant presentation and delicious taste. It was a delightful experience, and I would love to visit this charming café again.

Located a little south of Oike Street on Yanaginobamba Street, this sweets shop from a well-known brand offers a cozy atmosphere with a traditional Kyoto townhouse interior. Their special jelly parfait for coffee lovers has a perfect balance of bitterness and goes incredibly well with the vanilla ice cream. It was truly delicious.

I made a reservation and visited the restaurant at 4 pm as they suggested. They called me back to confirm my order, as they were out at the time. I was looking forward to trying their shaved ice, but they were worried they might not have it ready in time. I checked their Instagram before making the reservation, and luckily they had just started serving shaved ice on the day of my reservation. I enjoyed the refreshing citrus-flavored syrup with my shaved ice, occasionally adding lemon juice or ginger syrup for extra flavor. The complimentary hojicha tea they served was also delicious. The nostalgic atmosphere of the restaurant made me feel relaxed. I will definitely visit again!

Continuing from last year, I was able to go to Kyoto again this year. Last year, I couldn't make it due to time constraints. This year, I found out that the restaurant is closed on Tuesdays. So, the only chance I had was on the first day of my trip. Luckily, I managed to secure a short amount of time and headed to the restaurant. However, an accident happened - my phone broke and I couldn't use Google. It was a disaster. I relied on my memory and walked along Oike Street. I couldn't find it, what should I do? Then, I asked a woman I saw. She told me to go back a little, turn right at the corner, and enter a narrow alley - it should be there. But will it be open? I headed there. It was the place I passed by earlier. Ah, there it is. I finally arrived after a struggle. Inside, it was full. Just when I thought it was hopeless, the person sitting in front of me stood up to pay and offered me their seat. I was grateful. The seat by the window with the sunlight shining in was a nice touch. Now, time to order. I asked for the adult parfait with coffee jelly, but unfortunately, it was sold out due to the hot weather. Disappointed, but since I had come this far, I decided on an iced coffee instead. It was a short time, but I was able to spend a relaxing moment. Thank you for the meal.

Popular cafe "Cafe Karyo Renka"♪ After a short wait, I was able to get in (*'▽'*). It was a bit late, so unfortunately, the item I was looking for was sold out...
I enjoyed a relaxing matcha milk cake made with luxurious Uji matcha, which is the pride of the shop. For coffee lovers, there is a charcoal roasted coffee jelly ice parfait with vanilla ice cream and black honey topped with rice puffs for an accent. You can taste a rich matcha cake and fully enjoy Kyoto✨✨ Thank you for the meal (๑>◡<๑)

Located about a 6-minute walk from Kyoto City Hall, this restaurant is a bit hidden in a back alley. I walked in around 12:30 on a weekday. It is run by a male staff alone, so the service is relatively slow. I ordered the Keema Curry for 1320 yen (comes with a drink until 2pm), and it was served in about 10 minutes. The curry had a nice aroma of the shop's original spice blend. It was mildly spicy and very easy to eat. It also came with a soft-boiled egg and a salad, making it quite a filling meal. They only provided a spoon, so it was a bit difficult to eat the salad without a fork. I had coffee as my drink, which was served after the meal. It might have been better if it was hot. I recommend this place for both solo diners and groups. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

Located around Yaginobamba Nekojishi, between Kyoto City Hall and Karasuma Oike, there is a cafe tucked away a little off the main street. I visited around lunchtime on a holiday afternoon. When I arrived at the shop around 12 o'clock, about half of the seats were already taken. It seemed like it would get even busier as time passed. They also serve lunch, and on that day, they had Keema Curry. There are table seats as well as counter seats along the wall. There was one luxurious sofa seat at the counter, and I was fortunate enough to sit there, which was very comfortable. I ordered Matcha Milk Cake and a Cafe Latte. They also had other tempting options like Classic Chocolate, Basque Cheesecake, Tiramisu, and more. The Matcha Milk Cake was moist on the outside, and even more moist and gooey on the inside, rich and delicious. The matcha aroma was strong, with just the right amount of bitterness. The atmosphere was cozy and not too quiet, making it a perfect place to relax alone or chat with friends.

Cafe Kareng is a traditional Kyoto townhouse cafe that is a dream destination for tourists. The exterior of the cafe features a historic pump and wooden structure with glimpses of the interior through glass windows. Inside, the cafe offers a charming space with lovely seating options. I couldn't resist the cozy blue sofa and ordered a deep roasted iced coffee with milk and syrup. The coffee had a rich, chocolatey flavor that I adored. The cafe also has a beautiful garden in the back. It was a perfect cafe experience, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. Thank you for a memorable cafe time!

Before 4 pm on a weekday after watching a French movie at Uplink, I decided to visit Matsunosuke, only to find out it's closed on Tuesdays. So, I ended up coming here. It was hidden in the back alley, but the front was under construction and turned into an open space. The sake lees cheesecake had a strong adult flavor with a lingering taste of sake. It was a bit out of my usual preference, and a bit pricey. The atmosphere was great, with a cozy hideaway vibe, but the open and bright feel was refreshing and healthy. I'd like to come back for lunch or during shaved ice season next time.

During a break in sightseeing in Kyoto, I stopped here for a rest. I had a sake lees cheesecake and two cups of hot tea. The cheesecake had a nice aroma of sake lees, which was interesting. The tea was brewed slowly and tasted delicious. Next time, I would like to try the lunch menu and shaved ice.

In a charming shop that seems to have been there previously in a back alley, now the area along the street is vacant, so a nice shop can be seen from the street. I ordered "Rich Blue Cheese Cheesecake, Coffee Jelly Parfait with Mini Coffee Set, and Iced Cafe au Lait" in a shop with a Kyoto-like atmosphere. The cheesecake had a slight blue cheese flavor but was rich and delicious. Thank you for the meal, and thank you very much.

In the midst of the city buildings, there stands a quietly charming old folk house with a lovely garden. The owner's name is Renge, which made me feel a sense of familiarity. The lunch Keema curry set wasn't too spicy, with a gentle flavor. The dessert, an adult jelly, was sweet and delicious. Thank you very much. The fashionable old folk house is wonderful. The sunlight is excellent.
