I watched a show with Matsuko and immediately tried to make a reservation, but it turned out I had to wait for over 2 months. So, my daughter made a reservation for my birthday lunch instead. The restaurant is located next to the famous Kurokawa Noriaki's Capsule Building, about a 6-minute walk from Shinbashi Station. The building was recently demolished, so it's not a good landmark, but you can go there for the construction work. We sat at the counter right in front of the chef, and I could see his skilled hands (mostly just cutting the sea bream). The side dishes were all set, and we were ready to eat! After taking some photos, the simmered dish arrived. I wanted to take a photo together, but it was warm and they were making it in the back kitchen. The waitstaff were very busy and bustling. First, we ate the sea bream with rice... it was thick and delicious! The sesame sauce was new to me, with very little sweetness, but it was tasty and rich. The rice was surprisingly ordinary, not as delicious as I expected. The watercress simmered dish was fresh and crunchy, a dish I'd like to imitate at home, though I know I can't replicate the taste of the broth. I made half of the rice into ochazuke, looking forward to it! It was delicious, but I preferred the non-sesame version. The dessert, chestnut mushi yokan, was a bit disappointing as I prefer non-steamed yokan. As we were enjoying dessert, a foreigner came in alone and turned all his rice into ochazuke... I was worried it wouldn't taste good and would be difficult to eat, but I didn't say anything. I felt restless as he left, thinking he didn't enjoy it. The waitstaff were busy, so it was hard to speak up, but I wish I had. I also found it hard to ask for dessert, even though we wanted it. It was a weekend, so maybe they were extra busy. I thought the atmosphere and birthday service were nice, so I gave it a 3.6 rating.
