Visited "Moritaya Kiyamachi Store" in Kyoto City. It is a long-established sukiyaki restaurant founded in the Meiji era. I have visited the Tokyo branches of "Moritaya" a few times in the past. This is my first visit to the Kyoto store, so I am looking forward to it. The shop sign is stylish with a mix of Katakana, giving a modern feel. Walking through a narrow alley under the sign, I enter the shop. The blue noren curtain is appealing. The Meiji-era Japanese-style building creates a nostalgic atmosphere. I am seated on tatami mats in a traditional Japanese room with table seating, reflecting the high-class culture of the Meiji era. The serene service and Kyoto-like ambiance are delightful. The sukiyaki course begins. The appetizers are light and tasty. The meat sushi served next is tender and topped with sea urchin, delicious. The beef soup is light with tender meat and bamboo shoots, a nice Kansai-style dish. The main dish is, of course, sukiyaki! The beautifully marbled meat is perfectly balanced between lean and fatty cuts. The meat is tender and flavorful, complemented by the efficient sugar sprinkling technique. The meat is then transferred to a dish with egg for dipping. It is delicious! The tender meat, savory seasoning, and sweet richness create a perfect harmony. The vegetables are crunchy and tasty when mixed with the sweet sauce. The sukiyaki is truly delicious. Finally, I enjoyed rice and a light jelly dessert. It was a delightful course. The atmosphere, being a Kyoto institution, truly captured the essence of the city. I thoroughly enjoyed the high-class Kyoto experience. It was a delicious meal. I will definitely come back. The riverbed dining, which is usually finished by September, is still open due to the lingering heat in October. The appetizer, beef hot pot, and rice set were all delicious. The meat was beautifully marbled and incredibly tender, melting in your mouth without needing to chew. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I had sukiyaki on the riverbed of the Kamo River. I chose the bamboo option, and the meat was tender and very juicy, delicious. There are moments when the noise from the tour boats can be a bit loud, but the view is great and you can enjoy a peaceful time watching the Kamo River at dusk.

After Hiroshima, it's Kyoto! Thanks to Mr./Ms. ○○, this is my first time at this place on my third visit. The people I sat with were also wonderful, and I had a fun time exploring Kyoto. This place used to be a butcher shop, so the quality of the meat was great and delicious. Even though I'm still a beginner on my third visit, I was happy that the maiko remembered my face. Who knows, maybe there could be a marriage in the future!? There were many tourists, including visitors from overseas. It feels nice to eat on the terrace. Be careful of insects. The traditional sukiyaki is served with a service charge, so I don't think the cost performance is good anywhere. But the meat was really delicious.

Moritaya is a fantastic restaurant along the Kamogawa River where you can enjoy the best meat dishes while taking in beautiful scenery. I tried the "Ultimate Course" sukiyaki this time. Before the sukiyaki, we were served a variety of appetizers and desserts afterwards. The sukiyaki meat on the day I visited was from Mie Prefecture. It was incredibly tender and melted in my mouth, with the sauce flavoring it perfectly. The meat slices were large and satisfying. The tofu, shirataki noodles, and onions were also delicious. The servers were excellent at engaging in conversation while cooking the meat. The riverside seating is limited, so it's recommended to make a reservation at least a week in advance. Some people were able to get a seat without a reservation due to cancellations caused by the forecasted rain that evening. I highly recommend this restaurant for those looking to enjoy sukiyaki in Kyoto. It was a wonderful day experiencing the beauty of Kyoto and its cuisine!

The delicious sukiyaki in Kyoto is truly the best. It's rare for people from Tokyo to use zaramé (brown sugar) when making sukiyaki. The meat is also top-notch. This time, since there were three of us, I tried a bento-style sukiyaki, and it was delicious. The view from the room along the Kamo River was also great. Last time, we sat in the tatami room with a courtyard, but I recommend choosing a seat with a view of the scenery.

It was my first time at this traditional Japanese sukiyaki restaurant. I was seated in a private room with a nice view of the riverbank, which was very relaxing. The sukiyaki was delicious, with tender meat that left me very satisfied. I would like to try the shabu-shabu next time.

I was able to make a same-day reservation for Saturday night, which was lucky! I enjoyed my meal in a charming private room. I chose the Matsusaka course, which includes three types of meat, as I wanted to try some lean cuts as well. I also added some marbled meat, which was delicious without being too heavy. The bamboo shoot in the photo was also very tasty, even without any sauce. I would love to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I visited a calm restaurant for a farewell party and enjoyed delicious meat. They were very accommodating even with things other than food, which was much appreciated. We were seated on the second floor, where it was very peaceful and we could leisurely enjoy the tasty meat. The meat was very tender, and we enjoyed it with eggs. All the vegetables were also delicious. The only downside was that it was a bit cold because the windows were left open for infection prevention. Thank you very much.

Located on the outskirts of Pontocho, between buildings with a Kyoto-like atmosphere, is a restaurant entrance with a water-filled stone pavement. It has been a while since I last visited this long-established restaurant that has been around since the Meiji era. I was often recommended to try sukiyaki here when in Kyoto. I was seated in a private room on the second floor, where I could enjoy a view of the Kamogawa River and feel the Kyoto-like charm. Although summer would probably be the best time to visit, the floor might be a bit sticky. Tonight, I had made a reservation for sukiyaki. The waitress skillfully prepared it, starting by lining the heated iron pot with sugar, which seems to be the Kyoto way. Then, she grilled the large pieces of meat with seasoning and poured them onto a plate with raw egg. The high-quality meat was incredibly delicious. Then, she added ingredients like onions, kujo negi (leeks), shirataki (konjac noodles), tofu, burdock root, and wheat gluten. The flavor was quite strong and sweet. I usually don't add wheat gluten at home, but it worked really well here. I thought I might need to order more meat, but it turned out to be just enough. It was a pleasant Kyoto evening, enjoying good food at a reasonable price in a nice atmosphere. Thank you for the meal.

I visited Moritaya in Kawaramachi, Kyoto! I have been to other branches before, but the Sanjo branch had a completely different atmosphere with a very Kyoto vibe! It was stylish! I visited for a friend's birthday. While some say a few pieces of delicious meat are enough, the meat here is exceptional. You can eat as many pieces as you want! It's a popular restaurant so reservations are a must. Thank you for the meal!

A private room with a peaceful atmosphere. You can see a courtyard. Lovely! A lady in a kimono grilled delicious meat and vegetables for us. The conversation was light and enjoyable. We had a great time. It seems that the source of the meat (origin?) changes depending on the day. Impressive!

I arrived a little early and had tea in the waiting area. The room had a beautiful view of Higashiyama and was decorated with seasonal flowers, making me feel well taken care of. The food was amazing, and I was very satisfied with the taste and service for the price.

I received a delicious sukiyaki dish at Matsuri. The waitress took care of everything. The thinly sliced beef cooked in sugar and soy sauce was very tender and tasty. After the meat, they added fu (wheat gluten), onions, leeks, burdock, shirataki noodles, and grilled tofu, seasoning it all with sugar and soy sauce. It was a very delicious sukiyaki.

When it comes to famous sukiyaki restaurants in Kyoto, this place always comes up. Their oil-grilled dishes are also said to be delicious. In the summer, you can enjoy dining by the riverside. The sukiyaki here is prepared entirely by the female staff, including the proprietress, so you don't need to lift a finger. The meat has just the right amount of marbling, making it tender and melting in your mouth. I'd like to try their oil-grilled dishes next time.

Located along the Takase River in Kiyamachi, down a narrow alley, this place feels like a hidden gem. Just before the entrance to the alley, on the left side, there is something like a butcher's showcase. I heard that they have today's special meat displayed here. Indeed, there are high-quality marbled meats on display. We were led to a small private room on the second floor, not very spacious, and enjoyed the special sukiyaki. While they also offer oil grilling, we opted for the sukiyaki on the iron griddle! Even with the special selection, the difference in price between lunch and dinner is the quantity. The lunch portion is 70g per person. Our server, Nakai-san, quickly warmed the pot with beef fat, seared the marbled meat, and coated it with their special sauce and sugar before dipping it in a raw egg. Delicious! After that, it was the usual sukiyaki style. The meat was so good that too much oil made it hard to eat a lot. Nevertheless, sukiyaki is best enjoyed Kyoto-style. I had been curious about this place for a while, so I visited for the first time. I went with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. The room (private room) was well-designed like a real ryokan, and it was a nice room where you could actually stay overnight. Since it was our anniversary, we decided to go all out and chose the most expensive sukiyaki course. Overall, we were satisfied, but I was surprised by the small amount of meat, which is the main part of the meal. We could only eat about 2 pieces each. My girlfriend was happy with the meal, but honestly, I felt that it didn't quite match the price. Next time, I might consider choosing a lower course.

I happened to casually walk into a super famous restaurant in Kyoto during my birthday trip (lol) without a reservation, and luckily after a short wait, I was able to get in. The assorted appetizers had a Kyoto-like flavor with unique condiments and seasonings. The high-quality sirloin sukiyaki was just the right portion for one person... Enjoying a bottle of Ebisu beer in a tatami room was pure bliss. I will do my best to visit again.
