After the New Year's holiday, I went out to the streets of Fukuoka on a weekday off. I was aiming to have lunch at a yakiniku restaurant, but they were not open for lunch that day. Then I went to an izakaya in Tenjin, but they were also not open for lunch that day. Many places were still not open for business. I was starting to think that maybe they would be open by now, but I was completely wrong. I was starting to worry about becoming a lunch refugee. I walked towards the Yanagibashi Union Market. If I couldn't find lunch around there, I was prepared to give up and go back. As I was walking through the market, I saw a few people waiting in front of a shop. That shop caught my attention because it had a clean and nice exterior, and there were women waiting in front of it. There was a special menu item, limited to 20 servings, that caught my eye, so I stopped in my tracks. I love tuna, and I had just seen on TV that it is a lucky food for this year, so I thought it was perfect for my first meal out of the year. I decided to eat at this shop. I arrived at the shop around 12:20. I wrote down my name, number of people, etc. on a paper placed in front of the entrance and waited in line. After about 15 minutes, I was guided inside the shop. The shop had both table and counter seats, and it was packed with customers. I was seated at a counter seat that was available, and I checked the menu just to be sure. The special menu item of the day was still the most intriguing. I ordered the Tuna Donburi Set with plenty of tuna and a tempura set. You could choose the amount of rice from large, medium, or small, and I chose large. I waited for my order to arrive. In less than 10 minutes, the Tuna Donburi Set was brought to me. There was so much tuna that I couldn't see the rice. Since the tempura set was going to take some time, I decided to start with the Tuna Donburi. I tried a bite with wasabi soy sauce, and it was delicious. The tuna was fresh, soft, and had a smooth texture. Under the tuna, there were shiso leaves and seaweed spread out. The rice was plenty due to my choice of large size. The miso soup had red miso with tofu and seaweed. The kazunoko had a unique texture and was delicious. While I was eating, the tempura was brought to me. There were green peppers, lotus root, eel, etc. They were all soft with a light texture. The tempura sauce was just the right thickness, not too thick or too thin. Lastly, I had chawanmushi. It was filled with chicken, shrimp, fish cake, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, etc. It had a slightly light and gentle flavor. I ate it eagerly and finished it in no time. The special menu item of the day, the Yellowtail and Grated Yam Set, was sold out. It looked really delicious indeed. Many customers also ordered the seafood donburi set. Next time I visit, I might try the seafood donburi set. Of course, I will not forget to check the special menu item of the day. This time it cost me 1900 yen. It might be a bit pricey, but I believe it was worth it. It was delicious. I will come back again.
