I visited the restaurant "紅花別館," which was selected as one of the top 100 Western-style restaurants in the food review website "食べログ." I had their weekday lunch set. The restaurant is located near the Japan Bridge, right next to the "うさぎや 本店" that I visited recently. The nearest station is Nihonbashi Station on the Tokyo Metro Ginza Line and Tozai Line. I ordered the "Beef Cocotte Curry - Spicy curry with beef and mushrooms (1,750 yen)." First, a salad with lots of lettuce was served, and then the rice and cocotte arrived. According to Wikipedia, "cocotte" is a dish where tough meat such as poultry or game is stewed with vegetables and seasonings over low heat. The cocotte contained a broth-like curry sauce, which I poured over the rice and tried. The beef in the curry was tender and flavorful, with a rich taste of fat. The curry made with spices from Sri Lanka was spicy, but not overpowering, and I liked it. There was plenty of curry sauce, so I ended up getting a refill of rice. I enjoyed the meal while refreshing my palate with Fukujinzuke and rakkyo. The curry also had plenty of mushrooms, which was a nice touch. Although the price was a bit high, it was definitely worth it. It exceeded my expectations. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I went to a famous Western-style restaurant called "Benibana Bekkan" for lunch to try their Cocotte Curry. The restaurant was recommended by a friend as a shining star among the many delicious restaurants in Nihonbashi. I left the office a bit early for lunch break and arrived at the restaurant just as it opened. There was one customer ahead of me, so I waited in line. The staff quickly opened the door to the restaurant. The interior was surprisingly spacious. I was seated at a table as per the staff's guidance. "Have you decided on your order?" "Yes, I'll have the Cocotte Curry." "Would you like chicken?" "Yes, please." I had already decided on my order beforehand, so the ordering process went smoothly. The regular "Cocotte Curry" uses chicken as the main ingredient. The "Shrimp Cocotte Curry" includes cheese, egg, and shrimp. The "Beef Cocotte Curry" has beef and mushrooms. Since it was my first time, I decided to go with the basic chicken option. It came with salad and rice, priced at 1,800 yen. The shrimp option was 1,900 yen, and the beef was 2,200 yen, making it a bit pricey for curry. About 30 seconds after ordering, the curry arrived in a ceramic pot (cocotte). Shortly after, the salad, fukujinzuke, and pickled shallots were served. A minute later, the rice was also brought to the table. I could start eating just 3 minutes after the restaurant opened, thanks to the super quick service. When I lifted the lid of the cocotte, the hot curry emitted steam, and the aroma was fantastic! I scooped a small amount onto the rice and took a bite. It was so delicious, with a spicy kick and rich flavor that made my taste buds go wild! I thought the price was a bit high at first, but I take it back now (laughs)! The rice went down easily. There was plenty of curry in the cocotte, more than it seemed at first glance. I added more curry to the rice to ensure I finished both at the same time. The strong scent of spices was impressive, well-blended and not as sharp as Indian curry, making it a perfect match with the rice. As I was finishing up, a man at another table called the waiter over. "Excuse me. Can I have a refill of rice, about half the initial amount, please?" "Yes, of course." Wait, you can get a refill? If I had known, I could have had three plates of rice with this delicious curry! I only have about two more bites of curry left, so I'll skip the refill this time. Maybe I'll try a solo eating challenge next time (laughs). Anyway, I'm satisfied! Despite missing out on the rice refill, it was still a fantastic lunch. Thanks to my friend for the recommendation! Bon appétit!

I went after a long time. Before the pandemic, I used to go once a month, but now I couldn't go because Saturdays are closed. The curry is very smooth. It's spicy, but the flavor is amazing and delicious. The chicken is also very tender and soft. It's spicy, but it's addictive.

Red Flower, a long-established restaurant in Nihonbashi that has become famous for its Sri Lankan-style spiced curry, is a teppanyaki specialty restaurant without teppanyaki tables. For lunch, they only offer cocotte curry (chicken, seafood, shrimp, Italian meatballs, etc.). I decided to go with the classic chicken curry for 1,800 yen. The curry, served in a pot, is soft and spicy, making me sweat with each bite but also addicted to its flavor. The chicken and potatoes are generously portioned, providing a nice balance to the spiciness of the curry. Although the restaurant has an atmosphere that makes you want to try their teppanyaki dishes, I have only tried their curry so far. #TokyoGourmet #TokyoCurry #TokyoSpiceCurry #NihonbashiGourmet #NihonbashiLunch #NihonbashiCurry #NihonbashiSpiceCurry #RedFlower #RedFlowerAnnex #NihonbashiRedFlower #CocotteCurry #WantToConnectWithFoodies #WantToConnectWithCurryLovers

The heat in 2023 is abnormal. Everything feels bothersome, and I feel like I want to reset everything. I decided to go back to one of the origins of my curry, so I headed to the TOKYO TORCH Tokiwa Bridge Tower through the underground passage to avoid direct sunlight from Marunouchi, and then to this Western-style restaurant about 5 minutes away. "Benibana" I usually always go for the Cocotte Curry, but today I couldn't help but notice the limited-time menu, so I decided to try it. "Whole Tomato and 8 Summer Vegetables with Keema Cocotte Curry (2000 yen)" It was a spicy curry with whole tomatoes, eggplants, molokhia, okra, zucchini, bell peppers, baby corn, and onions. I thought it was just adding summer vegetables to the Cocotte Curry, but the impression of the curry sauce itself was quite different. The green molokhia, cheese, and keema minced meat added a smooth texture, a rich flavor, and a mild spiciness. The whole tomato, peeled and boiled, remained whole with a slight sourness, placed in the center of the curry. It was not bad and exceeded my expectations, but it made me realize my clear love for the usual Cocotte. I'll definitely go back soon. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Nihonbashi Station is a 2-minute walk away. I wasn't sure if there was a choice in ordering, but I decided to stop by on a rainy weekday. When asked if I needed a menu, I didn't think there was much of a choice. I ordered the Cocotte Curry (Chicken) for 1800 yen. The Cocotte was served on a hot plate at the same time as the rice arrived. It was really hot! And quite spicy! The restaurant seemed to have a Western influence, but it wasn't sweet and creamy. The vegetables were delicious! I ate while sweating and before I knew it, I had finished it. It seemed like rice refills were free. Thank you for the meal.

I arrived before the restaurant opened. There were already a few people in line, but I was able to enter right away since it was just one minute before opening. I ordered the cocotte curry, which was delicious. They also served Fukujinzuke and pickled vegetables before bringing out the curry. They mentioned that rice refills were free. I thought it was soup curry at first, but when I tried it, I found it to be sweet and not very spicy. However, the spiciness hit me later on... it was really spicy! But still tasty! I kept adding more rice to enjoy the curry, and before I knew it, I ran out of rice! Since there was still curry left, I had to get a rice refill! I soaked the rice in the curry until it was all gone! It was delicious, I will definitely come back again!

After 11 o'clock, I entered the restaurant called Kinsai Betteikan for lunch. I ordered the Chicken Coconut Curry for 1800 yen with extra rice. The food was served in about 5 minutes, and wow, there was so much rice! (laughs) The curry was spicy, but delicious. My stomach was full, but it was really tasty. Thank you for the meal!

Visited around 12 o'clock on a weekday. It was lunchtime in the office district but there was no line. We visited as a group of two and sat side by side around a large iron plate. They only serve Sri Lankan spice cocotte curry during lunchtime, which we ordered. The curry, served in a unique pot, was placed on the iron plate. Rice refills are free. It costs ¥1,800, not exactly cheap. The curry sauce was watery and quite spicy. Spicy curry is great for hot summer days.

I visited this place for lunch by myself after about 5-6 years. This time, I ordered the summer curry. It was delicious! The Cocotte curry here is spicy but refreshing. However, it is quite spicy, so if you don't like spicy curry, please be careful. All the curries are served quickly after ordering, but they are hot, so it takes time to eat. With the option of rice refills, you will leave feeling satisfied. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again.

I tried the curry at this restaurant that I was curious about. It seems that they serve teppanyaki at night and only Cocotte Curry for lunch. I ordered the Chicken Cocotte Curry for 1,800 yen. The curry was already prepared and served in a pot right away. It had plenty of chicken and potatoes. The curry was incredibly delicious. It was full of spices and had a great aroma. The spiciness gradually builds up. You can have unlimited rice refills. The curry was so delicious and filling that I could easily have about 3 bowls of rice. The price is a bit high, starting at 1,800 yen for the Chicken Cocotte, but I think the satisfaction justifies it.

Beef curry and mushroom curry for 2,000 yen. It's a Sri Lankan spice cocotte curry. The beef chunks are tender and there are about 5-6 pieces in the curry. The curry is on the watery side. It's quite spicy from the first bite, but delicious enough to enjoy. This curry is so tasty, comparable to Delhi's level of deliciousness. If you go at 11:30, there might be a wait for 5-6 people, but I got in within 7 minutes. It's most crowded around 11:30-12:15. There are many office workers from the neighborhood. It was my first time, but I highly recommend the beef curry here. The place next door, Kodotei, has a longer wait, but I personally prefer the curry here.

Located near Nihonbashi and Mitsukoshi, "Benibana Bekkan" is a teppanyaki restaurant established in 1937. During lunchtime, you can enjoy their famous spicy "Cocotte Curry". The Beef Cocotte Curry (served with rice and salad) costs 2,000 yen and is served in a pot with curry sauce. You can have unlimited rice refills. The sauce is quite spicy, starting with a fruity sweetness and followed by a stimulating spiciness from Sri Lankan chili spices. The beef slices are thick and plentiful, very tender and delicious. Onions, shimeji mushrooms, and eringi mushrooms add a nice touch. The curry has a fruity first taste, but the accumulating spiciness is quite strong, perfect for those who love spicy food. You might sweat a lot while eating, but when you leave the restaurant, you'll feel refreshed by the cool outdoor air (like coming out of a sauna). Thank you for the meal!

Curry Top 100 Shop Visit. The title is "Kurenai" = "Rose" as an image. Speaking of catchy items with roses, it's Yusuke Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho. Lately, there have been remakes of 90s Jump works like Rurouni Kenshin, Hoshin Engi, Slam Dunk, so Yu Yu Hakusho might be next. The cast will likely be completely different, but there might be some debate about who should play Yusuke. It seems like a role that a man would take on. Now, this is "Kurenai Bekkan" restaurant. Located in Nihonbashi, it is a shop selected as one of the Curry Top 100, but it is not a curry specialty store. The main focus is on high-end teppanyaki dishes cooked right in front of you. They only serve curry during lunchtime. At night, it transforms into a teppanyaki restaurant. Before COVID, curry was also available at night, but as of 2023, curry is only served during lunch. Reservations are required for dinner. It is unlikely that the situation will change, so those looking for curry should make plans for lunch. The original high prices of teppanyaki dishes mean that the staff wear white and black suits. It doesn't have the typical atmosphere of a curry shop. Inside the restaurant, there are several tables with teppanyaki grills in the center. Small pots are placed on these grills. Inside these pots... I mean cocottes, there are small medals... (Dragon Quest brain). The curry is served in these cocottes. It is served quickly as it is heated on the teppan. Rice is served with salad, pickles, and fukujinzuke. Rice refills are free. I did it. When you peek inside the cocotte, you'll see a sauce with scattered red and yellow colors. Scoop it up with a spoon, and you'll find chunks of chicken, potatoes, and mushrooms. The sauce is on the watery side, with a good level of spiciness. It has a strong aroma of garam masala, turmeric, and other authentic spices. The chicken is tender, and the mushrooms are firm. The spiciness makes it easy to eat with rice, so I had a second helping of rice. A curry that you can eat quickly and easily. Even though I'm not great with spicy food, I enjoyed it while sweating. Thank you for the meal!

"Benibana Bekkan" is a hidden gem in the city where you can enjoy traditional Japanese cuisine with a modern twist. The calm interior with a warm wooden feel and unique menu offerings make this place truly special. Each dish served here brings out the best flavors of the ingredients. Especially the "seasonal sashimi platter" allows you to taste the freshest fish of the season, beautifully presented and delicious. The "grilled dish platter" also highlights the natural flavors of the ingredients, making it a visually stunning dish. The staff's hospitality is exceptional, ensuring a pleasant dining experience every time. Whether it's a date, a business dinner, or a special occasion, "Benibana Bekkan" is a highly recommended restaurant for those seeking delicious Japanese cuisine in a serene setting. I can't wait for my next visit.

Lunch【Tabelog Western Food Top 100 2022】 ■ Cocotte Curry ¥1,800 (tax included) Despite being a teppanyaki restaurant, the specialty here is curry. This unique teppanyaki restaurant in Nihonbashi called "Benibana Bekkan" only serves curry for lunch. Established in 1937 as a jazz cafe, it went through various transitions such as a zenzai shop, closure during the war, reopening as a zenzai shop, then a coffee specialty shop, and finally a teppanyaki and Western food restaurant in 1962. The signature dish of this long-standing Western food restaurant is the "Cocotte Curry." It originated in 1990 when a Sri Lankan part-time worker at Benibana Bekkan made a Sri Lankan-style curry for staff meals. The head chef at that time liked it so much that he consulted the Sri Lankan Embassy through the worker's acquaintance to create a Sri Lankan curry that Japanese people would enjoy, leading to the birth of this dish after trial and error. The young Sri Lankan worker's achievement was remarkable. Currently, the Cocotte Curry comes in four variations: chicken, shrimp, beef, and with added coriander, and it has become a representative menu item that is featured in various media. The interior of the restaurant is unique, with tables surrounding the teppan where the chef cooks. The Cocotte Curry, heated on the teppan, is served in a pot as soon as you order. The set includes salad, rice, and pickles. The salad consists of lettuce, watercress, and other vegetables with a tangy green dressing. The rice is free for refills. The Cocotte Curry is similar to Kashmiri curry, with a watery roux made from a blend of 30 spices and quite spicy. It may be challenging for those who are not fond of spicy food. The Kashmiri-style roux is a matter of personal preference, and it goes well with the rice. The ingredients include chicken, onions, bell peppers, potatoes, mushrooms, and others. The chicken and potatoes are tender and easily fall apart with a spoon. It is delicious, but at ¥1800, it may seem slightly pricey. If you enjoy curry and want to taste history along with it, this is a must-visit restaurant for curry lovers.

The other day, I went to "Kouka Bekkan" in Nihonbashi for lunch after a long time. I looked at the menu and thought about trying something different, but ended up ordering my favorite "Beef Cocotte Curry". The hot cocotte with rice, salad, pickles, and radish was served promptly, and as usual, the curry had a delicious spiciness that gradually builds up. The beef in the cocotte was just right - not too soft or too tough, and soaked in the flavorful curry. I ended up getting a second helping of rice and enjoyed every bite, feeling completely satisfied. While the chicken, shrimp, and seasonal cocotte curries are all delicious, I still think the beef one is the best. Thank you for the delicious Beef Cocotte Curry. It was a delightful meal.

Nihonbashi lunch, today I wanted something spicy. I went to Benkei Honten for the first time in a long time. I arrived at 11:30 and the seats were only half full. The curry, already prepared, was being heated in a cocotte on a hot plate, so it was served immediately after ordering. Since sharing tables is common here and there are many seats, the service is fast and efficient. This time, I ordered the classic Chicken Curry for 1800 yen, which has gone up in price. The cold lettuce salad was delicious as always! When I opened the cocotte, there was a generous amount of watery Sri Lankan curry. I always struggle with how to eat this watery curry with rice, but I ended up breaking the rice bit by bit from the edge and eating it. Looking at the other customers, some made a donut shape with the rice and poured the curry in, while others mixed it all together from the beginning. The chunky chicken and potatoes in the spicy but creamy curry were perfect! As I ate, the intense spiciness increased and I ended up sweating. The pickled vegetables helped me out. It was a spicy curry on a warm early summer day, and I broke a sweat. I will definitely come back!

Cocotte Curry - 1800 yen A renowned old-fashioned restaurant in Nihonbashi that always comes up in curry conversations with customers. Finally made my first visit after thinking about it for a while. When led to the second floor of the restaurant, I was surprised by its spaciousness. The lunch menu offers only curry, so I ordered the basic Cocotte Curry, and Sri Lankan-style chicken curry arrived in a pot. It was so spicy that it made me sweat, but the flavorful watery gravy paired perfectly with the just-right firmness of the rice, making it super delicious. It felt like a bit of a luxurious lunch, but I was completely satisfied.

I visited this place for the first time in about 20 years. I arrived a little after 12 o'clock and there was a line of over 10 people. The turnover was fast, so I didn't have to wait too long to get in. The curry had big chunks of chicken and a thin, soup-like sauce. It was still as spicy as ever. Maybe my taste buds have dulled with age because it seemed a bit milder than 20 years ago. But it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I will work hard in sales from the morning. But half of my mind is thinking about what to eat today haha. While heading towards Yaesu-Mitsukoshi, I saw a sign that said "Kouka." What kind of shop is it? When I looked, it turned out to be a teppanyaki restaurant. And when I looked to the side, I saw the word "curry." Sri Lankan-style curry. Sounds good. I decided to eat here and work hard today. I was seated at a table inside the restaurant. I ordered the chicken curry. Almost all the other customers also ordered chicken curry. It arrived in a large pot! Quite a generous portion. First, I had the salad - the dressing was delicious. Then the curry was poured over it, a watery curry. Just the way I like it. I took a bite. The spices were fragrant and delicious. The umami taste was also good. The chicken was tender and tasty. The potatoes were also delicious. I kept eating and before I knew it, I had finished all the rice. There was still curry left. I got a refill of rice, just half portion. I poured all the leftover sauce over it. The spiciness slowly crept up. Delicious! Spicy! It's been a while since I had a hit with watery curry!! The lingering umami taste of the sauce was delightful. I wonder how they make the broth. I was happy to enjoy such a delicious meal after a long time. I finished the refill too! My stomach is full. As someone with a good metabolism, I need a handkerchief! Ah, happiness. Thank you for the meal!
