I went to a famous Western-style restaurant called "Benibana Bekkan" for lunch to try their Cocotte Curry. The restaurant was recommended by a friend as a shining star among the many delicious restaurants in Nihonbashi. I left the office a bit early for lunch break and arrived at the restaurant just as it opened. There was one customer ahead of me, so I waited in line. The staff quickly opened the door to the restaurant. The interior was surprisingly spacious. I was seated at a table as per the staff's guidance. "Have you decided on your order?" "Yes, I'll have the Cocotte Curry." "Would you like chicken?" "Yes, please." I had already decided on my order beforehand, so the ordering process went smoothly. The regular "Cocotte Curry" uses chicken as the main ingredient. The "Shrimp Cocotte Curry" includes cheese, egg, and shrimp. The "Beef Cocotte Curry" has beef and mushrooms. Since it was my first time, I decided to go with the basic chicken option. It came with salad and rice, priced at 1,800 yen. The shrimp option was 1,900 yen, and the beef was 2,200 yen, making it a bit pricey for curry. About 30 seconds after ordering, the curry arrived in a ceramic pot (cocotte). Shortly after, the salad, fukujinzuke, and pickled shallots were served. A minute later, the rice was also brought to the table. I could start eating just 3 minutes after the restaurant opened, thanks to the super quick service. When I lifted the lid of the cocotte, the hot curry emitted steam, and the aroma was fantastic! I scooped a small amount onto the rice and took a bite. It was so delicious, with a spicy kick and rich flavor that made my taste buds go wild! I thought the price was a bit high at first, but I take it back now (laughs)! The rice went down easily. There was plenty of curry in the cocotte, more than it seemed at first glance. I added more curry to the rice to ensure I finished both at the same time. The strong scent of spices was impressive, well-blended and not as sharp as Indian curry, making it a perfect match with the rice. As I was finishing up, a man at another table called the waiter over. "Excuse me. Can I have a refill of rice, about half the initial amount, please?" "Yes, of course." Wait, you can get a refill? If I had known, I could have had three plates of rice with this delicious curry! I only have about two more bites of curry left, so I'll skip the refill this time. Maybe I'll try a solo eating challenge next time (laughs). Anyway, I'm satisfied! Despite missing out on the rice refill, it was still a fantastic lunch. Thanks to my friend for the recommendation! Bon appétit!
