In November, I checked into a hotel in Kyoto and had dinner. Tonight's target was one of the "Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in Kyoto". I visited Daioh in the Kyoto area. The restaurant was quite busy, almost full even though it was past 8 pm. Luckily, I managed to find a seat. I ordered a Highball with Chita whiskey for 935 yen, which was rich in flavor and very enjoyable. I couldn't resist ordering the pan-fried dumplings for 550 yen for 5 pieces. They were quite delicious, with a classic taste. The Teridongkinshi for 1,100 yen with soup was the specialty of the restaurant. It looked appetizing with a layer of shredded egg on top of rice, topped with sweet and savory pork. The combination of flavors was great, with a slightly junky yet satisfying taste. I also tried the small portion of beef mapo tofu for 1,320 yen, another recommended dish. It looked delicious and had a spicy kick with a good amount of Sichuan pepper. The combination of flavors from the black bean sauce and other ingredients made it a rich and enjoyable dish. Overall, I left the restaurant feeling full and satisfied. However, I accidentally left my wallet at the hotel. The staff kindly waited for me to return and pay the bill. I rushed back to the hotel, settled the payment, and returned to the restaurant before closing time. I apologized for the inconvenience, but the staff's courteous service left a good impression. Thank you for the meal!

The lunch set with beef mapo tofu was delicious, with a gentle soup and rice on the side. The beef flavor was rich and the numbing Sichuan pepper was amazing. It was spicy but still very enjoyable! The famous teriyaki don was also packed with meat. Many elderly people from the neighborhood were there too. Next time, I want to try the noodles that the regular customers were eating. An elderly lady who must have been over 70 was enjoying ramen and half-fried rice!

Recently, I've been obsessed with the great combination of "baijiu" (Chinese white liquor) and Sichuan-style cuisine at Daiko in Nijo, Kyoto. The spicy and numbing flavors make me love it even more. From saliva chicken to dan dan noodles, mapo tofu, water dumplings, and cloud white meat, everything is so spicy and delicious that baijiu tastes amazing with it. It feels like my body is turning into the Chinese mainland in the near future. With over 4,000 years of Chinese food history plus some extra touches, the best Japanese-Chinese cuisine has been perfected. Even the stir-fried vegetables were delicious. Truly a popular restaurant. Thank you for the meal!

During a weekday afternoon, there were 4 groups waiting in line 10 minutes before the store opened. We gave our names and waited in order, but were quickly seated as soon as the store opened. - Lienka Mine Farm's Drool Chicken (half) The quality of the meat is excellent, and the crunchy collagen parts are delicious. It's not too spicy and easy to eat. It's great to add glass noodles after eating! - Mapo Tofu (small) Using today's special producer's beef 100% with leaf garlic from Shizaki, Kochi Prefecture. Although there is an extremely small size not listed on the menu, we ordered the small size. It has a good balance of Sichuan pepper flavor without being too spicy or numbing. The richness of the beef is clearly felt and it is delicious. - Fermented chili steamed head of Lake Biwa sea bass After some hesitation, we decided to order it. If Lake Biwa sea bass is on the menu at this restaurant, it would be a waste to leave without trying it. Despite being the head part, there were quite a few edible parts besides the face meat. Unlike last time, I didn't feel any smell in the skin part, thanks to the fermented chili. As expected of being compared to sea bass, the white meat was rich in flavor. I never thought I would be sucking on a black bass's eyeball, it was a valuable experience. The wine was 2020 Rollier / Valentin Vallès They said the red wine of the day was Valentin Vallès, so I couldn't help but order a bottle. This is not the kind of wine you would serve by the glass. Rollier is mainly Grenache and Syrah, but it is light and flavorful. It was a bit acidic right after uncorking, but as time passed, the edges softened and it paired well with Chinese cuisine. I think this is a representative Chinese restaurant in Kyoto.

I ordered the famous bowl, water dumplings, and sweet and sour pork. They were all really delicious. The flavors were rich and well-balanced, not greasy at all. I couldn't stop eating because they were so tasty. There were many other menu options, so I definitely want to go back.

The must-eat dishes are xiaolongbao and Sichuan-style sweet and sour pork with black vinegar. The pork is tender and delicious, and the vegetables like lotus root, yam, okra, and myoga are unique and tasty. The mapo tofu is savory, the tantanmen noodles are rich with sesame, and the gyoza has a strong garlic flavor. Many solo male diners come here for the teriyaki don. I got takeout and the dishes were not uniquely seasoned but had generous portions of meat. The 800 yen draft beer is pricey but popular. The food comes out quickly and the staff clearly communicate how long customers can stay.

I had heard that Chinese cuisine in Kyoto is interesting, but I had never been. I made my debut at Daiko, a famous restaurant in Kyoto that is not Marushin Hanten. I'm not sure about the lineage of Kyoto Chinese cuisine yet, but this place follows the Sichuan style, and their use of spices is amazing. They also pay great attention to beef, and the beef in the green pepper beef dish tastes like high-quality steak. The fried rice is delicious with the umami of seafood seeping through. The Sichuan-Chongqing-style sweet and sour pork has a punch with tender pork. Even the kimchi is great with a nice fermentation and fizziness. The teriyaki is catchy. The soup that comes with the set is like the chicken soup that a famous yakitori restaurant serves at the end of the course. The sesame dumplings and almond jelly are also amazing. Moreover, they pay attention to their drinks, and the Shaoxing wine and wine are all delicious. Overall, everything is shockingly delicious, the use of spices is fun, it changes your concept, and it was the best Chinese cuisine. This is what it means to debut in Kyoto Chinese cuisine, it feels like it must be wrong. I wonder if other places can impress you like this.

■Shop Information Contrary to expectations, Kyoto has many popular local Chinese restaurants. One of them, Daiko, is a beloved spot among locals, often with long lines during lunchtime. The specialty here is Teridon. Since I came all this way, I decided to order various items from the menu as follows: ■Food Ordered - Drooling Chicken (Half) ¥1100 - Authentic Beef Mapo Tofu (Small) ¥1320 - Teridon Kinshi Mini ¥825 - Sichuan Green Pepper Ice Cream ¥880 - Darjeeling Tea ¥990 The food arrived in about 10 minutes. First, the Drooling Chicken. The half portion is quite small, around 4 pieces. The meat is tender, and the sauce with Sichuan pepper has a unique taste, but the cost performance is not great. The lunch at Jasmine in Tokyo offers better quality and quantity. The same impression goes for the Mapo Tofu. It's tasty, but doesn't quite leave a lasting impression for the price. The Teridon, on the other hand, was delicious with its sweet and savory braised pork, perfect with rice. I tried a little of everything and spent around ¥5000. If I were to judge based solely on the Teridon, my rating might change, but overall, I have slightly lower expectations. Also, while I appreciate their eco-conscious efforts, I wish they would provide at least one hand towel. Everything I eat is incredibly delicious. Mapo tofu was a surprising taste I had never tried before!! It was delicious while eating it! But then, oh! Spicy!! Teriyaki pork bowl was too good. I loved the sweet sauce! Xiao long bao is divine. Spicy chicken was also delicious!

Chinatown-style restaurant. I used it for a drinking party. It seems like a restaurant that is hard to get a reservation at. They have a nice selection of natural wines. This soup is also delicious. It feels like a higher-class Chinatown restaurant. I would like to come back again.

I went to the restaurant at around 11:40 on a holiday. There were only seats available for 4 people, but we managed to get in. I ordered the beef mapo tofu set for 1540 yen. It arrived in about 5-6 minutes. The mapo tofu was Sichuan-style with a strong flavor of Sichuan pepper, and the texture of the beef was perfect. The soup was the "daily detox soup" as listed on the menu, made from around 20 types of vegetable peels, stems, and seeds, making it very nutritious. It seems they offer a different soup every day. The portion of rice may be a bit small for men. We left the restaurant around 12:30, and there were 7-8 people waiting, showing that it is a popular place.

This is a Chinese restaurant near Nijo Station in Kyoto Prefecture. I wanted to try various dishes to fully understand the potential of the restaurant, and since I was very hungry, I ordered a lot of dishes at once. I was delighted to learn that all dishes could be made in half size. Despite being described as a "popular town Chinese restaurant", I understood why the famous gourmet Terakado Jinbe praised this restaurant on YouTube as having a taste that surpasses high-end Chinese cuisine. The food was really delicious. Considering the price, it felt like I was eating high-end Chinese cuisine at a very reasonable price. Personally, I was impressed by the "Mapo Tofu with Beef", "Saliva Chicken", "Hot and Sour Noodle Soup", and "Chongqing-style Sweet and Sour Pork". Inside the restaurant, there were several panels explaining the restaurant's dedication to quality ingredients. The attentive service of the staff and the cleanliness of the restaurant made the dining experience enjoyable. I wish there was a town Chinese restaurant like this near my home. Thank you for the meal.

After the Gion Festival Yamahoko Parade and before exploring Gion, we visited this restaurant for Sichuan cuisine at 12:50 with a reservation for a table. We started with two draft beers and ordered the combination of Dan Dan noodles and half fried rice, beef mapo tofu, and xiaolongbao. The Dan Dan noodles were delicious with a strong spice from the Hua Jiao. The fried rice was fluffy and tasty. Next came the xiaolongbao, which were piping hot with flavorful soup. The beef mapo tofu was exceptional, with a perfect balance of spiciness, numbing sensation, and rich beef flavor. We had another round of beer and finished with a medicinal herbal soup to cleanse our bodies. It was a great lunch experience. Thank you for the meal!

I visited a famous natural wine bar among natural wine enthusiasts in Kyoto. It's located in Nijo, an area I don't usually go to. I made a reservation and the place was packed. It's a popular spot. I started with a beer since I had one before, then switched to wine. The waitress quickly recommended a few options and I made my choice. Cheers, the wine was delicious! I was a bit indecisive with the menu, but ended up ordering spring rolls, mapo tofu, cloud white meat, and tasty fried chicken. The bean sprouts were crunchy and delicious. The white wine was also great. The dumplings were tasty. The daily green vegetable was stir-fried with pork and tomato. It was a casual Chinese restaurant, but the food was delicious and free of additives. The wine was also delicious, and the staff was efficient and pleasant. The Shaoxing wine also looked tempting. This was the best restaurant I visited during my trip to Kyoto. I definitely want to go back!

I visited a Chinese restaurant in Kyoto and enjoyed delicious dishes. Today, I was very hungry so I was able to eat a lot! I tried three different kinds of sweet and sour pork: traditional style, Sichuan style, and Shanghai style. They were all delicious! I will definitely come back to eat here again. Thank you for the delicious meal! 😋

Visited for the first time at around 17:13 on a Saturday in July 2023. "Daiko" is a popular Chinese restaurant located within walking distance from Nijo Station. Upon arrival, there was one group of customers waiting for the opening. Later, the staff came to confirm the number of people and names of those waiting in line. With that, we were confirmed as the second group to enter. We entered at the scheduled time and were seated. The restaurant was not completely full, but almost all seats were taken as it was just after opening. We checked the menu and ordered: Sapporo draft beer (medium size) for 880 yen, Kyoto Hasunaga Mine Farm's drool chicken (half portion) for 1,100 yen, authentic beef mapo tofu (small portion) for 1,320 yen, and teriyaki donkichi for 1,100 yen. The service from the staff, even before entering the restaurant, was very polite! We started with a beer, and while enjoying it, the drool chicken (half portion) arrived. The quality of the chicken meat was excellent, and the seasoning was good, complementing the beer well. After finishing the chicken, we mixed the prepared glass noodles with the sauce in a separate dish and enjoyed it to the last bite. Then, the teriyaki donkichi and beef mapo tofu (small portion) arrived. The popular dish at "Daiko," teriyaki donkichi, was a delicious combination of sweet and savory pork, egg, and rice. Although it was a regular portion, it was quite filling. The beef mapo tofu (small portion) also had a decent amount and a very authentic flavor. It paired well with the beer, as well as the teriyaki donkichi. With the dishes we ordered, we were stuffed! We enjoyed a hearty and delicious meal! Thank you for the meal! The service from the staff from serving to payment was impeccable. It is a very high-quality local Chinese restaurant.

This restaurant is famous for its Teriyaki Don Kinshi. The dish consists of stir-fried pork in a sweet and savory sauce served over rice with shredded omelette on top, giving it a slightly junk food image. However, in the evening, the restaurant transforms into a high-grade Chinese restaurant. I decided to make a reservation for the evening to enjoy both the Chinese cuisine and the Teriyaki Don Kinshi. Although reservations were full, we were able to secure a seat by arriving early and providing our name, with a 2-hour time limit. The turnover was quick due to many customers coming specifically for the popular dish. We leisurely enjoyed our dinner, starting by looking at the wine list. The restaurant focuses on food and medicinal herbs, offering mostly organic wines at a slightly higher price. We enjoyed a bottle of "Kura" while sampling dishes like fermented vegetable stir-fry, dumplings, octopus with green onion and wasabi sauce, and the Teriyaki Don Kinshi. The portions were small but elegant and well-suited for those interested in Chinese cuisine with a medicinal twist. The Teriyaki Don was not greasy but light and easy to eat. The red wine "Kura" paired well with the meal, offering a light yet robust flavor. Overall, the restaurant had a cohesive menu with good flavors, and the prices were fair. I look forward to trying more dishes at this restaurant that prioritizes health and wellness in its menu.

This is a Chinese restaurant that has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants. I made a reservation the day before and visited at 12:50 PM on a weekday. There was no line, but the restaurant was full. The Mapo Tofu was delicious with a strong spice flavor. The Yodare Chicken had tender chicken and a spicy sauce that was excellent. The Dan Dan noodles without soup were outstanding and highly recommended. Although all the dishes were expensive, they were all delicious with no disappointments.

It's a famous Chinese restaurant in town. There were about 6 people waiting 15 minutes before opening. I'm looking at the menu and trying to decide what to eat (laughs). It's a place where I want to try a lot of things. I decided to have mapo tofu, so now I need to figure out what else to order. The "Authentic Beef Mapo Tofu (small)" has firm tofu, chewy minced beef, and a flavorful spicy sauce. It's not as spicy as the one from a famous chain, but it's enough to make you break a sweat. It should go well with rice. I also ordered the "Teriyaki Donburi Mini" to try their famous dish in a smaller size. It has fluffy scrambled eggs, sweet and meaty toppings, and pickled ginger on rice. It's the kind of satisfying comfort food you'd expect. I also got 2 pieces of crispy fried chicken. The staff is friendly, and I like the atmosphere of the place.
