I rarely eat Chinese food, even though I want to eat it but don't have the opportunity to do so. I don't have the courage to eat Chinese food alone, and the local Chinese restaurants are the best I can do. I want to try different types of Chinese dishes, but the portion size of each dish is a concern. I suggested to my daughter to go to a restaurant in Ochanomizu, but she didn't show any interest. As expected, but I have already made a reservation to go with a friend in September. For my friend who loves yakiniku and Chinese food, I mustered up the courage to try a solo lunch. I couldn't resist the temptation of Peking duck... I had lunch at Ginza SIX. It was my first time having a meal there, not just for lunch. The 6th floor was crowded with inbound customers. Lunch course "Takumi" for 11,000 yen, Peking duck upgrade for 3,300 yen, Iron Goddess for 1,100 yen. Since I have plans for drinking in the evening, I opted for tea. First impression was without alcohol! 1. Silk pea and flying fish roe 2. Assorted appetizers - Cold jellyfish, octopus with mountain pepper, kettle-grilled char siu, crispy pork belly 3. Braised fish maw 4. Dim sum - Spring rolls, shrimp and chive dumplings, flying fish roe shumai 5. Peking duck 6. Seafood dish - Shrimp and scallops with XO sauce 7. Vegetable dish - Chinese cabbage with crab meat sauce 8. Cold noodles Starting with the appetizers was reassuringly delicious. The kettle-grilled char siu had a crispy exterior and a moist interior. I want to eat more of the crispy pork belly! The fish maw was okay, considering the price of the lunch course. The gentle clear soup with sour and salty flavors was good. Adding yellow chives and Jinhua ham changed the flavor again. Rather than focusing on the fish maw, it's better to savor the soup. I'm not usually excited about dim sum, but it was nice to be able to taste a little of each - spring rolls, dumplings, and shumai. Surprisingly, the main dish of the day was Peking duck! It was three times larger than I expected. It had the same generous portion as the spring rolls. The taste was excellent with sweet bean sauce, cucumber, and white leek. It's no wonder that everyone recommends it. I haven't had it in a long time, but it was worth coming for this dish. I felt like a boss having four pieces all to myself. From there, it continued with seafood and vegetables, but I couldn't shake off the feeling that I had been overwhelmed by the Peking duck. Both were delicious though... The last dish was a cold noodle dish, which was unexpected. The noodles had a unique fragrance, and the steamed chicken was light and tasty. Finally, mango pudding and baked goods. My stomach was full but not heavy, thanks to the light Chinese cuisine. One thing that bothered me a bit was that even though I was seated in a semi-private room alone, I didn't feel comfortable... Maybe I should have sat on the opposite side of the hallway... I couldn't help but think of last year's incident at Sliore... Considering that it's inside Ginza SIX, a more casual Chinese restaurant was totally fine. Next time, I'll have to try the dinner or a la carte menu. It wasn't difficult to make a reservation, and it was a convenient restaurant to visit. At the time of payment, I remembered that I had points that would make today's bill free! But then I realized that they had expired in April this year... I will definitely come back again~
