When it comes to Uji, there's nothing but "tea"! It may sound rude, but it's really all about tea, so I just had to try this matcha bread from Tamaki-san's dad at Mogumogu Bakery. Finally, I was able to visit the bakery around lunchtime and there were still some bread left. My goal was the "tea bread," and they had plenty of options. I wandered around a lot before buying, so by the time I got home, the bread looked quite sad, and the photos turned out terrible, I apologize. But I can confidently say that the taste of all the bread was amazing. The Matcha Sunrise for 250 yen had a fluffy melon bread with matcha cookie dough on top, filled with cream made with Jersey milk, a delightful combination of matcha and melon bread in one. It was a bit sweet, but the matcha aroma was fantastic. The Teapot for 300 yen had matcha cookie dough on a moist base, filled with matcha bean paste and two-layer mochi, a luxurious matcha-filled bread that looked rich with its deep green matcha bean paste. The soft two-layer mochi added a touch of Japanese confectionery, but the buttery aroma of the bread and cookie dough also gave it a Western touch. It goes well with both Japanese tea and coffee. It's truly luxurious. The Matcha Rustic for 270 yen was the simplest in the matcha series. The crumb was chewy, while the crust was thin and crispy, becoming incredibly fragrant when reheated. With red beans inside, you could feel a hint of sweetness within the bitterness of the matcha. It would go well with fish dishes too. The Green Tea Shokupan for 430 yen, a 5-slice mountain-shaped bread, was exquisite. The tea aroma was truly direct, and when toasted, it was rich in fragrance with a hint of bitterness. It was light and easy to eat, surprisingly fluffy and light. It was delicious with Koiwai margarine, sweet potato jam, or homemade sweet red bean paste. All the bread was made using tea from Tsujiri or Morihan, adding a sense of luxury and contributing to the promotion of Uji. It was clear that they were working on revitalizing the town through partnerships. Using good tea really enhances the flavor, and I thoroughly enjoyed the aroma.
