Located in Kyoto's Senbon Nakatsuji Street, the bar "Shinme" is a long-established establishment founded in 1934. It is known as one of Kyoto's three major famous bars and is a very popular spot where reservations are a must. The building, which is over 100 years old, has a white traditional storehouse-like exterior, while the interior exudes a Showa-era atmosphere. The third-generation owner, Naotaka Sakatani, goes to the market every day to procure fresh seasonal seafood and ingredients to create delicious dishes. One of the secrets to its popularity is that the daily recommended menu changes regularly. The delicious food at "Shinme" has gained a reputation through word of mouth in Kyoto, attracting customers from all over the country. This time, I visited "Shinme" after a long time and enjoyed delicious dishes and Japanese sake. [Shinme's Matsubagani] *Comments on the taste are included in the photo. ◆Appetizer◆Koppie Crab (Tango Peninsula) ◆Sashimi☆Bluefin Tuna (Aomori, Oma)☆Ark Shell (Oita)☆Cutlassfish (Nagasaki, Goto Islands)☆Spear Squid (Nagasaki)☆Flounder (Aomori) ◆Cloud Ear Mushroom with Ponzu Sauce (Hokkaido) ◆Steamed Kabura (Turnip) with Sea Bream (Ehime) ◆Grilled Saury (Mie) ◆Deep-fried Natural Blowfish (Yamaguchi, Shimonoseki) ◆Yellowtail Radish (Toyama, Himi) ◆Whale Bacon ◆Red Snapper and Senmai-zuke Sushi ■Drinks☆Draft Beer☆Sake◎Warm Sake Nada 6-Blend◎Tsuru Rei Special Junmai Fresh Sake (Aoki Sake Brewery, Minamiuonuma City, Niigata Prefecture)◎Hirodogawa Special Junmai Sake (Matsuzaki Sake Brewery, Ten-ei Village, Fukushima Prefecture)◎Kokuryu Junmai Ginjo (Kokuryu Sake Brewery, Eiheiji Town, Fukui Prefecture) ◉I had the opportunity to meet the owner, Naotaka, after a long time and chat with him across the counter, listening to his stories of the ongoing struggles during the COVID-19 pandemic. When you feel like enjoying delicious food and sake without any pretense in Kyoto, "Shinme" is the perfect bar. Thank you for seeing me off when I left. It was a wonderful meal.

Here is a sudden downpour from Nijo Station to this authentic long-established bar in Kyoto❣️ I visited without a reservation, but just in case, I made a reservation and unexpectedly received the response, "It's okay for one person until 6:30 pm." I was able to enter without any problems♪ As soon as I entered the store, I was engulfed by the atmosphere in a good way♪ The counter was initially occupied by one person, but gradually it was taken over by couples. I was planning to start with the recommended "warm sake," but oh‼️ they also have Hoppy in Kyoto❣ The delicious appetizers and balance made me emotional♪ Mozuku seaweed, clams, kombu with baby fish, edamame, and simmered squid were all satisfying❤️ I switched from Hoppy to sake "warm sake" and ordered a sashimi platter with 4 varieties and horse mackerel namero. It may be the first time I've heard the sound of pounding the horse mackerel before serving it. The freshness of the sashimi and namero was a definite "delicious." The sashimi also featured Kyoto's specialty, conger eel. The warm sake disappeared quickly in the bar's atmosphere. For the finale, I ordered "pressed sushi" with one piece each of conger eel and mackerel. Of course, I also had another warm sake (lol). 90 minutes is enough if you have it! I thoroughly enjoyed the taste of this long-established bar founded in 1934♬

My friend said it would probably be impossible to get a reservation, but they managed to book one a week in advance. When we arrived at the opening time, the restaurant was already full. Despite being located away from the bustling area, customers kept coming in. The food and drinks were all delicious, but the whale meat I had for the first time in a long while brought back memories of my childhood and left the biggest impression on me. I definitely want to go back again!

Weekend reservation was fully booked at 7:00 PM, but I visited anyway. From top to bottom in the photo: appetizer, sashimi, Ezo Bafun Uni, red snapper sushi (1 piece), hamo sashimi, purple sea urchin, and more. This izakaya offers delicious seasonal ingredients that you can enjoy. Each dish is carefully prepared and both the appearance and taste were satisfying. Especially the half-raw hamo sashimi had a unique and delicious taste that is hard to find elsewhere. Sushi is around 300 yen per piece, while sashimi and other dishes range from 1500 to 2000 yen each, allowing you to enjoy authentic cuisine at this izakaya. They also have a wide selection of sake to enjoy with the food. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant when you are in Kyoto. Thank you for the meal! ^ ^

In the year 1934, the izakaya "Kamba" was born in Senbon Nakadachiuri. It has been passed down for three generations. Following the teachings of the previous generation, the focus is on offering customers fresh and delicious seasonal ingredients each day. This is why the recommended menu changes daily, as they source high-quality ingredients from the market. You can enjoy Kamba's proud dishes prepared with carefully selected ingredients. The izakaya is located near the Senbon Nakadachiuri intersection, close to the Shijo-Karasuma D bus stop (in front of SUINA). It is a popular spot, so reservations are essential. The age group of customers tends to be on the older side, with many regulars who visit repeatedly. The welcoming and friendly nature of the owner contributes to the growing number of Kamba fans. The food is also delicious, which adds to its popularity. The menu is always varied, and this time, the reviewer ordered dishes featuring summer ingredients. They particularly enjoyed dishes like simmered octopus, eel dish, chilled taro, corn tempura, grilled Kamo eggplant, stir-fried squid and avocado, medium fatty tuna, a selection of sushi (mackerel, eel, sea bream), steamed beef tail, pressed sushi with salmon roe, and mackerel sushi. Overall, it was an enjoyable dining experience!

Visited the long-established famous restaurant, Jinba, after a long time. The atmosphere is still nice, but the service from the part-time staff was a bit disappointing. It would have been better if they were a little more attentive. The food was decent. I think it's easy to end up drinking more because of the good atmosphere. Thank you for the meal!

It is an izakaya that uses fresh ingredients. The atmosphere is very nice, with decorations that give off a nostalgic vibe. The oysters are delicious, and the fried chicken is also very tasty. The atmosphere of the restaurant is calm and cozy, creating a pleasant space. The staff greets you with a smile and provides attentive service, making even first-time visitors feel at ease. The food is exquisite, with unique flavors and fresh ingredients that will impress you with every bite. The chef's special dishes are highly recommended, offering delicate flavors that dance on your palate. The generous portions will leave you feeling satisfied. This restaurant has many repeat customers for good reason - once you visit, you'll want to come back again. The anticipation for your next visit will be high, as they provide a highly satisfying dining experience. Experience the charm of this restaurant for yourself - the wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff, and delicious food are waiting for you. I wanted to convey the greatness of this restaurant, so I shared this review. When you're in the area, be sure to visit and have a fantastic time.

The highlight of this business trip to Kyoto was "Shinba" - a well-known traditional bar in Kyoto. I made a reservation and arrived at the bar around 5 o'clock. The place was already quite busy, showing its popularity as a long-standing establishment. I was led to my reserved seat and looked around the interior of the bar. The atmosphere was great - a classic and dignified space that made me smile even before I started drinking. <Drink> I tried the Nada's six-blend sake, served in a sake pitcher with the characters for "god" and "horse" shining. <Dishes> I finally got to try the kue fish that I couldn't eat in Wakayama for the first time. It was lighter than I expected, but still delicious and went well with the sake. The rare tonkatsu, kizushi (pickled mackerel sushi), and a sushi platter were all tasty as well. Everything was so delicious that I felt like I could keep eating, but financially, I couldn't afford to indulge alone. However, the names of old bars like Genji in Sendai and Chokyu in Shirahama sound impressive. The name "Shinba" also has a nice ring to it. A good name may not guarantee continued success, but it certainly plays a significant role. <Old Bar> ☆☆☆ <Note> Established in 1934. As of today, rated 3.74

I was able to make a reservation at Kamiuma-san after searching for a real izakaya where I could drink alone during my upcoming trip to Kyoto next month. It seems I was lucky as the place was almost full of adult customers and regulars, even though it was just past 6 o'clock. The atmosphere was lively, and I ended up eating and drinking a lot faster than usual, feeling full and satisfied in less than an hour. The food and drinks were delicious, of course, but what really stood out was the friendly interactions with the neighboring customers and the master who casually chatted with me. It made me feel like I could enjoy drinking alone even more, despite it being my first time. Truly a renowned restaurant. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

I made a reservation for my first visit at "Kanba" on a Saturday at 5:00 PM in June 2023. This restaurant is a long-established izakaya in Kyoto founded in 1934 and is very popular, so reservations are essential. I arrived slightly before the opening time and saw customers entering, so I followed suit and took a seat at the counter. The menu was extensive with many tempting options. This time, I ordered the following: - Bottled beer (Akahoshi): 715 yen - Whale bacon: 1,760 yen - Spot prawn sashimi: 1,540 yen - Fresh sea urchin trio: 1. Bafun uni 2. Murasaki uni 3. Aka uni - Kyoto bamboo shoot and sansho pepper grill: 1,100 yen - Shiso leaf and pickled shiba rice soup: 880 yen - Spiny lobster red miso soup: 880 yen I started with the bottled beer and appetizers, then enjoyed the whale bacon, fresh spot prawn sashimi, and the sea urchin trio. I savored the crispy texture of the Kyoto bamboo shoot and sansho pepper grill, and ended the meal with the shiso leaf and pickled shiba rice soup and the spiny lobster red miso soup. The delicious food, the hospitality of the chef and staff, and the atmosphere of the restaurant all lived up to the reputation of this long-standing establishment. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal! Thank you for the feast!

In April, I visited a popular izakaya in Kyoto with a budget of 6000 yen after the recommendation from a friend. I was unsure of what to order from the lineup, but I must try the mackerel sushi that I missed last time. They also offer a variety of seasonal dishes, perfect for seafood lovers. They have options like conger eel and sea bream sushi as well. I highly recommend this place for those who enjoy seafood. I am sure to come back for a repeat visit soon.

I think it's amazing how this restaurant never disappoints no matter what you eat or drink. The reakatsu is as delicious as the famous tonkatsu shops. The combination of traditional flavors passed down through generations and new flavors is evident, and the owner's personality and the charming atmosphere of the restaurant were all great. I will definitely visit again when I come to Kyoto!

In March, one of Kyoto's top three izakayas with a budget of 5000 yen. This day was a first attempt at a luxurious food hopping plan called "~Mancho-san" from Kamuma-san. We ate a little less because there was another shop to go to next. When looking at the menu, there were so many things we wanted to order that we were indecisive. When we actually ate, we could really feel the goodness of the ingredients from the taste. The prices are reasonable and it's a place that is easy to gather with a few people. The interaction with the owner and staff makes it easy to enjoy sake, and you can also get good sake at a reasonable price. I would like to visit this wonderful restaurant again.

I visited this restaurant two days in a row this time. The third-generation owner and all the employees are kind and attentive. Most importantly, they work very hard. A new female employee was diligently trying to memorize the different types of oden ingredients that her senior was teaching her, with a notepad in hand. The owner was subtly watching her while supporting her as she took orders from customers and plated the dishes, using her notes. When asked later if the owner was kind, she replied, "He is very kind. Everyone in the restaurant is kind." This kindness is evident in the food as well. For example, the mackerel sushi we had at the end was perfectly seasoned with salt and vinegar, allowing the sweetness of the mackerel's oil and the umami of the kelp to shine through. You can enjoy the gentle flavors unique to the owner, who trained at a Japanese restaurant. The other dishes were similar, but I will omit them here as they have been mentioned in other reviews. I visited two days in a row this time because one employee's customer service skills were outstanding, and I wanted to confirm my suspicion that they had worked at a similar restaurant in the past. Their service was truly remarkable and made me want to recruit them. When I asked the owner about it, I found out that this spring, the employee will graduate from university and the restaurant, and will start working at a super famous hotel in Tokyo. A student!! Were you just a part-timer? I was truly moved after a long time. On my way out, the owner called over the part-timer and said, "This person is from Tokyo. They had a lot of praise for you, so I wanted to thank you. We might need your help somewhere in the future, so please take care of us then." I wonder how kind they can be...

Since 1929, this Kyoto's top three long-established izakaya requires reservations. Must-try dishes include: assorted tuna sashimi, fresh sea urchin, assorted oden (lotus root, shrimp dumpling, thick tofu, beef tendon, radish), fugu shirako with ponzu sauce, simmered bamboo shoots and red snapper roe, original sake from Kamiuma served hot, draft beer (Marueff), and bottled beer. It was a night of complete satisfaction.

The variety of sake and food options here is impressive. Being able to enjoy each dish a la carte feels like a luxury. While the prices may seem a bit high for each item, the overall cost is reasonable. I particularly enjoy sushi, grilled fish, and oden here. The atmosphere and dishes give off a sense of history. I look forward to coming back to try more dishes.

The sake brewery has a charming appearance and atmosphere. The showcase is decorated with horses. The interior of the shop has a unique atmosphere and is lively, with the owner and staff being friendly and creating a great experience. The shop was established in 1934. The owner has a background as a chef in Gion and offers excellent dishes and a wide variety of options, focusing on fish dishes such as tempura, blowfish, sushi, chicken, and more. The menu changes daily based on the ingredients available. We ordered: - Appetizers: 3 types, a great start. - Sashimi: scallops, tuna, sea bream, fresh and delicious. - Blowfish tempura: crispy and flavorful, delicious blowfish taste. - Red snapper and turnip steamed dish: flavorful broth enhances the overall taste. - Chicken liver confit - Sauteed abalone with butter: tender and tasty. - Blowfish fin sake: authentic sake made with blowfish fin. - Rolled omelet: fluffy and creamy, delicious. - Wagyu beef tail steamed dish - Oden: radish, egg, taro, tofu, simmered to perfection. - Sushi platter: eel, mackerel, sea bream, a delicious ending. - Premium karasumi mochi: generous karasumi wrapped in mochi, a tasty dish. The owner kindly prepared the boiled beef bone from the wagyu beef tail steamed dish for my dog as a treat at home. My dog was very happy and enjoyed chewing on the gelatinous part. I'm glad to have found such a great restaurant and will definitely visit again. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

People run to the restaurant called Kamuma in Kyoto, known for its excellent sake and dishes. It is considered a sophisticated adult dining establishment located on Senbon Street in Kyoto, near Nishijin. Despite its inconvenient location, especially on rainy nights when taxis are scarce, people continue to enthusiastically visit. The restaurant offers a wide variety of high-quality ingredients such as nodoguro, amadai, pike conger, and abalone at reasonable prices. The menu includes sashimi, grilled dishes, simmered dishes, and even delicious mackerel sushi to end the meal. Choosing from the menu can be a challenge, but it is also enjoyable. Customers leave feeling satisfied and energized, making it a popular oasis for people of all ages and genders. Even if the taxi fare from the hotel in front of the station costs 4,000 yen round trip, the atmosphere, food, and drinks at Kamuma are worth it. The reviewer expresses a desire to revisit Kyoto and compares it to Tokyo's izakayas, finding them lacking in comparison to Kamuma. The only way a Tokyo restaurant could surpass Kamuma is by offering a superior selection of Japanese sake.

A classic-looking izakaya located in Nishijin with a wide variety of menu options, although not the best value for money. The seasonal menus offer a lot of variety, making each visit enjoyable. The legendary chef and the old-fashioned wooden register give the place a charming atmosphere. Cash-only payments with a smile, attracting even Kyoto hotel staff. While it may be difficult for tourists to find, it is occasionally visited by Asian tourists who have read about it in guidebooks. The main counter is usually crowded with tourists, while the locals prefer the large shared tables across the stone bridge. The selection of drinks is good, and the sashimi is delicious, especially the marinated salmon roe. Surprisingly, the tonkatsu is also perfectly cooked and tasty. The young staff are always energetic and provide excellent service. The unclear bill with only the total amount and the possibility of being moved to a different seat based on reservations are minor drawbacks. The inconvenient outdoor toilet facing the garden is clean, so no points deducted. Despite its flaws, this alluring izakaya keeps drawing me back. Will definitely visit again.

I had made a reservation for dinner at one of Kyoto's three major famous sake bars for my short trip to Kyoto. It's a long-established izakaya with high ratings from my fellow reviewers, so I was looking forward to visiting. 1. Exterior, atmosphere, and interior of the restaurant: It's about a 20-minute walk from Kitano Hakubaicho Station, a bit far from the station, located in the central area of Senbon Nakadachiuri. As you walk, you can see the solid white-walled appearance resembling a storehouse. The interior has a counter surrounding the drink area in a circular shape. There are large table seats at the back, mainly used for sharing. Our seats were right in front of the hot sake machine. It was fun to watch the staff preparing the hot sake. 2. About the food: The menu is so extensive that it's hard to choose! Just looking at the handwritten menu on the whiteboard gets you excited. There are also menu posters on the walls, so we discussed with our companions and ordered everything we wanted to eat. We had "Fresh Ikura Soy Sauce Pickle," "Sweet Sea Bream Grilled with Salt," "Isokage Clam Sashimi," "Ehime Red Sea Urchin," "Mackerel Simmered to Eat Bones," "Dashimaki Tamago," "Grilled Mullet with Miso," "Iwate Matsutake Mushroom Mixed Rice," "Kizushi," and a platter of pickles. We enjoyed everything, and there were still many dishes we wanted to try! 3. Staff service: The hall was managed by two young men who seemed to be university students, a young woman, and the master. There were a total of four staff members, and they handled greetings, seating, and explanations of the dishes efficiently and with a friendly attitude. The service of serving drinks was also quick, and the hot sake was perfectly timed with the order, allowing us to enjoy without any stress. 4. Cost performance: All the dishes were carefully prepared and well-matched with the sake. The extensive menu allowed us to enjoy seasonal ingredients from all over Japan and made us feel happy. The atmosphere of the restaurant was lovely, and the hard work of the young staff made us want to support them naturally. Overall, I think the cost performance is good. 5. Other notes: The only disappointing thing was that we couldn't really talk to the master. He seemed busy dealing with regular customers and didn't have time for newcomers like us.
