During the busy Golden Week, I went to Kyoto Kinana on Hanami Koji in Gion, which was filled with tourists. There were no tickets issued that day, so we had to line up inside the restaurant. The turnover was surprisingly fast, so the wait wasn't too long. The place was constantly busy, indicating its popularity. It was my first time at Kinana, and after much contemplation, I chose the parfait while my companion opted for shaved ice. The "Kinana Habon" for ¥1500 was a lavish parfait with chestnuts, shiratama, kinako ice cream, yomogi ice cream, sesame ice cream, sweet beans, warabi mochi, and Yatsuhashi, a truly Japanese parfait! Kinana's signature item, the Kinana ice cream, was featured in three different flavors in this luxurious parfait. Kinana ice cream is made with a consistent theme of "gentle and delicious," using carefully selected natural ingredients including Tanba black soybean kinako, without any chemical colorings, preservatives, or excessive fat. It is also egg-free, making it safe for those with egg allergies. Despite its gentle nature, the ice cream had a rich and distinct flavor, yet somehow light and very delicious. The shiratama was delightfully chewy, making it a parfait that would appeal to Japanese sweets lovers! The shaved ice my companion ordered was topped with black beans, which was a nice touch. With espuma, shiratama, and Kinana ice cream inside, it avoided the common problem of having no flavor towards the end of the shaved ice.
