- Impressions -
The bright yellow and red façade of the shop caught my attention. It was just before 2 p.m., and the place was almost full with regular customers. I managed to find a seat at the counter, which was almost full. As the name suggests, gyoza is at the top of the menu. However, this is not a gyoza specialty shop, as they also offer noodles and rice dishes, more like a local Chinese restaurant.
The gyoza was well-made, with a serving of 6 pieces per order. They were easy to eat in one bite, with a good balance of size, juicy filling with the sweetness of cabbage, and a thin, stretchy skin. The garlic flavor was not overpowering, making it suitable even for those who are not big fans of garlic. The chive gyoza, on the other hand, was packed with chives, and the green color peeked through the thin skin, a delight for chive lovers like me.
Although it was daytime, the beer was going down too smoothly, causing a bit of a dilemma. They also had other unique gyoza variations like sudachi gyoza and carrot gyoza, but I had to skip them due to lack of space in my stomach.
One highlight of the meal was the pickled vegetables made by the shop owner's wife. Served generously on a heart-shaped plate, the pickles consisted of cucumber, eggplant, daikon, and daikon leaves, perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of salt, retaining the freshness of the vegetables. It was a perfect palate cleanser after eating gyoza.
Despite being busy, the shop owner and his wife were very hospitable, engaging with customers and making the dining experience enjoyable. The location might not be the most convenient, but if it were closer, I would definitely become a regular customer.
