During lunchtime on this day, my friend from Kobe and I enjoyed exploring the town of Kyoto together until evening. For lunch, my friend made a reservation at "Matono." I had visited this restaurant with my husband ten years ago after reading a review by Saltvina-san, and it was so good that I wanted to revisit it. The room we were seated in seemed to be the same as last time, very cozy with a view of the garden. Since it was a private room, we could even take notes about the dishes (laughs). We started with drinks and made a toast. The dishes were brought to us at just the right timing, one by one. When it's just my husband and me, we usually sit at the counter, but having a private room with friends is also quite nice. I have listed the details of each dish under the respective photos, so please refer to them for more information. Despite it being ten years since my last visit, the impression of this restaurant with delicious food and a calm atmosphere remains unchanged. I feel like I want to visit again and spend more time here. After settling the bill and stepping outside, the owner and his wife came to see us off. The wife kindly asked, "Did you have any duplicate dishes during your revisit?" I expressed my gratitude, saying that there were no duplicates and that both this time and last time, the food was delicious. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I will make a reservation for the evening course (\16500) at Kyoto, where you can enjoy a delicate and elegant meal while taking in the traditional atmosphere. The appetizer is a chilled chawanmushi with grated okra, which is already mouthwatering. The lightly seared conger eel offers a different flavor profile. The beautiful dishes keep coming, making it impossible to end the meal with just beer. I ordered "Amago no Tsuki" sake from Aihara Sake Brewery in Kure City, Hiroshima, which had a visually stunning presentation. The highlight of my visit back to Japan was the dried ayu fish - it was incredibly delicious! The meal ended with roasted corn with crispy bits of shichimi pepper and red miso soup. It was a delightful experience that made me appreciate returning to Japan.

Visited on a holiday night. It was the first day of a three-day weekend, and the streets of Kyoto were quiet with few people. Due to the rain, we took a taxi to the restaurant. The entrance had a charming stone pavement. The private room we were seated in on the first floor was a traditional Japanese room with a well-maintained garden view. The course menu priced at 13,000 yen started with an appetizer and each dish not only looked appealing but also tasted delicious. The dishes, utilizing seasonal ingredients, truly reflected the four seasons. Personally, I especially enjoyed the moroko dish. Each dish was creative and refined, truly outstanding. The course menu was satisfyingly generous, and we enjoyed our conversation with sake in hand without worrying about the surroundings due to the private room setting. The location is quite hard to find, so I recommend using a taxi. It was a wonderful hidden gem in Gion where you can savor seasonal Kyoto kaiseki cuisine. Thank you for the meal.

This is my third visit, and my mother has become a big fan since our first visit. The taste was consistently delicious as always, and you can feel the care put into each dish. Every dish is truly exquisite. We had similar seasonal menus at other restaurants this time, but I was once again impressed by the deliciousness of Matono's dishes. The entrance to the restaurant is a bit hard to find, but it is highly recommended.

It's a bit of a walk from Yasaka-san (⌒-⌒; ) but the restaurant is located in a narrow alley, just as expected in Kyoto. We were seated in a private room for two. The photo is of the 13,000 yen course, which includes a delicious matsutake mushroom and a clear soup. I apologize for the oversight. We truly enjoyed the flavors of the ingredients and the carefully prepared broth. It was a wonderful experience! The owner kindly saw us off until the end, and we were touched by their thoughtfulness!

Just 5 minutes before the reservation time, as I walked through a narrow alley from the main road, I could see the waitress in a kimono through the glass door, welcoming me as she opened the door. I was led to a private room with a view of the garden. Seasonal flowers were beautifully arranged in the alcove. From here on, it was a moment filled with satisfaction. Every dish was carefully made and delicious, but the rice cooked in the clay pot at the end was stunningly white and beautiful. It was a long time since I had such delicious rice. The dessert was a shiso and white miso sherbet, with a refreshing and delicious taste.

For lunch on the second day of my Kyoto trip, I sought out a restaurant where I could enjoy authentic Kyoto kaiseki cuisine near Yasaka Shrine, and visited this place. Upon passing through the narrow entrance curtain, I found myself walking on cobblestones leading up to the entrance. I entered while enjoying the traditional Kyoto townhouse atmosphere. The place gave off a more homely vibe than I had imagined based on photos on Tabelog, almost resembling a ryokan. I had made a reservation for the mini kaiseki lunch priced at 4,500 yen. Although I was informed over the phone that we would be seated in a room shared by three groups rather than a private room, we were lucky enough to be led to a private room with a small garden. The appetizer of sesame tofu with cucumber paste was delightful, with the flavor of the dashi broth spreading in my mouth, heightening my expectations. It paired perfectly with Kyoto-produced cold sake. Next was the shrimp shinjo, and the Kansai-style dashi was incredibly delicious. I was already satisfied with just this dish. The sashimi featured sea bream, which I particularly enjoy, and it was delicious. Following that was a dish of simmered cucumber, tomato, and vegetables, with the flavors soaking in wonderfully. The eight-piece dish included fried tuna with arare, which was delicious. The deep-fried vegetables like taro and various types of fish cake were all tasty and went well with the sake. The rice dish was scorched rice cooked in an iron pot, sprinkled with shredded dried fish and sansho pepper. The dessert was ice cream and pink grapefruit jelly, refreshing and satisfying. The meticulously prepared dishes were generous in portion size. I felt so full that I found it puzzling that it was considered a "mini" kaiseki. The value for money was exceptional. If it had been a full kaiseki course, I might not have been able to finish it. I have found a great restaurant that I will definitely revisit. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

During our trip to Kyoto with my husband and mother, we made a reservation and visited this restaurant. By chance, we were seated in a private room and were able to enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace. The atmosphere was excellent with features like a tokonoma (alcove) and an engawa (veranda). The food, needless to say, was all incredibly delicious. Each meticulously prepared dish made my mouth water every time. Especially the dessert. It seems to change depending on the season, but I want to try all varieties. It may be difficult to visit again soon, but this is a restaurant I definitely want to return to.

Visited this place as a preview for a wedding, with the other party coming from Kagawa Prefecture and us from Nagoya, so we were looking for a midpoint in Kyoto. And we found it! This Japanese restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, with a cozy hideaway feel and a tranquil traditional Japanese house vibe. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call it a house designed for showcasing Japanese architecture. The attention to detail is so high that I half-expected them to ask me to let my daughter stay here. I indulged in delicious flavors and thoughtful hospitality. Kyoto is truly wonderful. By the way, unrelated, but after this, we visited Kibune Shrine.

Reserved a private room for 6 people. Affordable plan for 4,000 yen. Everything that came out was delicious and satisfying. It felt a bit busy, but it took about 2 hours for the food to be served. Spent a total of about 2 and a half hours leisurely. The head chef personally greeted us after enjoying the meal. I would like to go again.

Near Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto. Prices are generally high, but considered reasonable for this area. Each course has its own unique touch, making it great for dining with others. We used it for a family gathering and were extremely satisfied! Highly recommended!

By the way, I forgot to mention the location change. Delicious. The speed is just right, for me. The cost performance is a bit lower compared to the previous place.
