I visited around 12 o'clock, just in time for the doughnuts to start. The doughnuts were crispy on the outside, fluffy and warm on the inside, and very delicious. The milk coffee was easy to drink. The sofa seats in the back were spacious and lovely!

I had given up because I had lined up many times and the master was not there for a while, so the restaurant was closed. I didn't have a last drink at the izakaya, so I had toast here, with a highball and my companion had a coffee float. The coffee was brought from the first floor. It would have been fine on the first floor, but the basement was non-smoking, so I was told to use the spacious seats! I had two highballs at the seat next to the stairs and went home. I was surprised when I stopped by the restroom on the way back. It's definitely better to go and see the basement store in person. Truly a famous restaurant in Kyoto. Thank you very much. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

The restaurant is divided into a ground floor and a basement (although they are connected by the building), with the basement established in 1951 and the ground floor opened later, each with its own role. Today, I visited the basement. I ordered the house blend coffee and donuts. The donuts reminded me of the ones I used to make with my mother when I was young, nostalgic (・∀・) The coffee is carefully roasted with hand-picked beans, and it tastes really good. This time, I tried the house blend, but the basement offers coffee from various countries, so next time, I plan to visit and try coffee from different regions.

I visited around 9 p.m. on a Friday night. Luckily, there were empty seats at the time, but it seemed like those who came later couldn't find a seat, so it's all about timing. I enjoyed coffee and donuts while listening to the casual everyday conversations of locals in the background.

A café located a few minutes' walk from Sanjo or Kyoto City Hall, along Kawaramachi Street. It's just a little south of Sanjo Kawaramachi. It's an old-established café that has been around for a long time. The first floor and basement are affiliated stores, with smoking allowed on the first floor and no smoking on the basement floor, giving it a slightly different concept. This time, I visited the basement. I arrived around 6 pm on a holiday. The interior has three tables, and one was available for me. After 6 pm, it's considered bar time, but you can still order from the café menu. You can also order alcohol. I only had the iced cocoa. It was a nostalgic cocoa - not too rich, not too sweet, not bitter. I probably should have ordered coffee instead. Well, I knew that, but just felt like it... Despite its central location, the café had a relaxed atmosphere, making it a calming place. The donuts seem to be well-received, so I'd like to try them next time I come.

A popular cafe. Smoking is allowed on the 1st floor, while it seems like the basement is non-smoking and they don't offer donuts for takeout. The donuts have a crispy outer layer and are filled with a dense, mildly sweet dough. They serve them warm.

This is a café located in Kawaramachi. They offer original blend coffee roasted in-house using a paper drip method in a space that retains the atmosphere of the Showa era. Their homemade donuts served from 12:00 are also popular. From 6:00 PM, they operate as an izakaya called "Rokuyosha," where you can enjoy both alcohol and coffee. Established in 1950 (Showa 25), it is currently managed by the 2nd generation master, Mr. Okuno. Non-smoking. Located about 5 minutes from City Hall Station and 5 minutes from Sanjo Keihan Station along the Kawaramachi shopping street.Visited in the morning in April 2023. Enjoyed the blended coffee.Visited in the afternoon. The interior has a warm and cozy atmosphere with wooden walls and Shigaraki tile, similar to the first floor (coffee shop). It was almost full, and customers who came in after me were turned away until seats became available. Coffee is brewed by Master Okuno alone, so it may take some time when orders pile up. The seating options include counter seats and table seats. I was guided to a counter seat at the back right. The space behind is quite narrow, but once seated, it was comfortable. Background music includes the sound of grinding coffee beans and light piano jazz played with each order. The staff's service is polite and pleasant. The menu includes various drinks and sweets. I ordered the House Blend Coffee. It was medium to dark roast, served generously in a cup. It had a rich flavor with a balance of bitterness and sweetness. Most customers seemed to pair it with the popular donuts. I spent about an hour there, reading quietly at the end of the counter. Visited both the first floor and the basement. The first floor has morning service but allows smoking in the afternoon. The basement is non-smoking and cozy. Coffee selection varies, but the donuts are the same. Choosing based on coffee preference and ambiance is recommended. I prefer the basement...

Located near Kyoto Sanjo Station, Rokuyosha is a popular cafe with fans not only locally but nationwide. Both the first floor and basement floors have been selected as top cafes. I visited the basement floor, which operates as a bar at night. It's a non-smoking area, which is convenient for non-smokers. The atmosphere shifts to a bar vibe at night, so I ordered a highball and some snacks. The flow of time feels strangely slow in this mysterious space. For my second drink, I tried the whiskey coffee, a drink mixing a shot of whiskey with coffee. It's a sophisticated taste, quite delicious. It seems to be popular among young people too, showing that retro cafes are loved by the younger crowd as well. When in Kyoto, taking a break here is a great idea. Thank you for the meal.

Donuts ¥180, House Blend Coffee ¥500. The coffee was very easy to drink and delicious, with no bitterness or acidity. They seemed to be using good quality beans. The donuts were fried and warmed up after ordering. They were crispy on the outside and filled inside. They were light and easy to eat, making you want to keep eating. It was a delicious treat that comforted my tired body. I was surprised by the high quality. It was a weekday afternoon, but the restaurant was quite busy with some customers being turned away due to full capacity. The seating was not cramped, with enough space between tables, showing the master's consideration for customers. I was turned away a few times before finally being able to enter, so I was very happy. The atmosphere in the underground space, the lighting, chairs, and tables all had their own unique charm, creating a very pleasant ambiance. It's wonderful to be able to spend time in such a space right in the middle of Kawaramachi. The lemonade and coffee floats looked delicious too. I would like to try them next time I visit.

Hello. I'm a beauty acupuncturist, Kozue. The other day, when I went to Kyoto, I went on a cafe tour. This time, I visited the basement shop of Rokuyosha. Last time I visited Kyoto, I went to a shop on the ground floor, but this was my first time entering the shop in the basement. Inside the shop, there are about three table seats and about 13 counter seats. I was guided to the counter seat and ordered the House Blend Coffee (medium-dark roast) for 500 yen. After waiting for a few minutes, a cup full of coffee was served. I could taste a sharp bitterness, but the aftertaste was refreshing. After drinking about half, I added milk, and the milk flavor was distinct, making the taste mellow. There were also alcoholic beverages such as whiskey on the counter, so I wonder if some people use it as a bar at night. It was a wonderful shop with a retro atmosphere. Thank you for the meal.

I revisited the long-established café "Rokuyosha," representing Kyoto. Both the first floor and the basement have different concepts, and both are good, but this time I chose the basement. It's nice to read a book alone in the basement. The blend coffee and donuts are tastier in the basement. The first floor had a quite strong taste like the Nel Drip method from the founding era, but the basement is roasted by the second generation. It's deep but relatively easy to drink. And these donuts, they are seriously delicious. They seem to be toasted before serving, warm, and crispy on the outside. The taste is simple, without any distinctive features, but that unpretentious feeling fits this atmosphere perfectly. You can have these donuts for ¥180, so you would definitely order them when you come.

I had some time before dinner, so I visited this restaurant. This place is selected as one of the top 100 cafes on Tabelog in 2022. There is also Rokuyosha on the first floor, which is a third-generation smoking-allowed shop. The basement is the third-generation father's shop where smoking is not allowed. Therefore, there was a line mainly of non-smoking women at the basement shop. Since I have already visited the first-floor shop, I lined up in the queue. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I entered the shop. This restaurant is a long-established coffee shop founded in 1950. They take pride in their carefully selected coffee, roast selected beans in-house, grind the beans each time you order, and brew them meticulously with a paper drip. The types of coffee vary depending on the origin of the beans and the degree of roasting, and you can find your favorite cup by expressing your preferences when ordering. The popular choice is the well-balanced and easy-to-drink "House Blend" (500 yen), and the popular coffee companion is the signature "Donut" (140 yen) with a modest sweetness and simple taste. Also recommended is the buttercream-filled "Roll Cake" (260 yen). The interior has a quiet and calm atmosphere, retaining the charm of a good old coffee shop. Additionally, the first floor operates as "Rokuyosha Coffee Shop," where you can enjoy coffee brewed with a different Nel drip method from the basement shop. I ordered the House Blend Coffee, medium-dark roast, for 500 yen, and the Donut for 180 yen. Delicious coffee with a simple-tasting donut. Thank you for the meal.

About a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Municipal Subway Shiyakusho-mae Station. A retro-style coffee shop facing Kawaramachi Street. Visited the long-established coffee shop "Rokuyosha" celebrating its 70th anniversary. Read and heard about it from the reviews of Mairebi-sama and Yumemiruko-sama. The coffee shop is located on the first floor and basement of the same building. The third-generation son is the owner of the first floor, while the father is the owner of the basement, which turns into a bar at night. Both floors were fully occupied. When I said I was willing to wait, the master of the basement asked me to wait in the middle of the staircase leading downstairs. Fortunately, I was called in after about five minutes. I had a Milk Coffee for 600 yen (tax included) and a Donut for 180 yen (tax included). The simple Donut made me feel nostalgic. They seem to be available only after 12 p.m. as they are made fresh on the day. The Milk Coffee tasted like coffee milk, and I drank it all at once. Thank you for the valuable information. It was a delightful meal. ❤️

On the second day in Kyoto, in the early afternoon. I visited the restaurant on the first floor the day before, but it was too early and I couldn't have the donuts served from 12 o'clock. Today is the day. Donuts (180 yen) and house blend coffee (500 yen). The donuts are freshly fried and crispy. They have a simple sweetness and a scent of oil. The medium-dark roasted coffee is carefully brewed one cup at a time by someone who seems to be the master, using beans roasted in-house. The first floor was using Nel drip, but here they use paper drip. The moderate bitterness is pleasant. The basement turns into a bar from 6 p.m. There are many bottles of Western liquor lined up. It's getting crowded. I'll leave reluctantly, cherishing the memory.

There is a popular retro café with a sepia color theme in town. The old-fashioned low tables and sofas, calming dim lighting, and the aroma of fragrant coffee beans create a cozy atmosphere. The Shimizu-yaki tiles add a touch of sophistication. Located near the intersection of Kawaramachi Sanjo in Kyoto, the longstanding café "Rokuyosha" has a smoking area on the first floor run by the 3rd generation, while the smoke-free basement is managed by the father of the 3rd generation. You can relax in the basement without being bothered by smoke. The basement, unlike the first floor, has counter seats where you can enjoy coffee or even use it as a bar at night. My partner had the house blend medium-dark roast coffee, and I opted for black tea. The black tea, brewed carefully from tea leaves and served in a pot, was delightful. The rich second cup with a hint of bitterness was perfect as a milk tea. The pound cake was also delicious, with a moist texture and generous amounts of orange or kumquat fruit pulp blended in. The smoky-free environment was comfortable, and the British-style interior with oak-colored wall materials and chic leather sofas was inviting. The lighting reminded me of Haruki Murakami's "Norwegian Wood." Kyoto, with its many universities, used to be filled with young people discussing in cafés during the early Showa period. Nowadays, there are various ways to express oneself, but back then, the limited options might have caused some frustration. My stress melted away with the delicious tea and cake. The simple white cups and saucers with gold rims were lovely. After a tiring day of exploring Kyoto, I will definitely come back for some relaxation. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

A retro coffee shop with stylish tiles and dim lighting. It's a popular spot with many regular customers. The service is quick and friendly. Unlike the first floor, the basement is completely non-smoking all day. They use Noritake cups. The first floor and basement have different atmospheres and brewing methods; the first floor serves coffee brewed with Nel drip, while the basement turns into a bar in the evening and offers blends or single-origin beans brewed with paper drip. During bar hours, the coffee served is the same blend coffee brewed with Nel drip on the first floor, not the original basement coffee. At night, the bar offers a variety of whiskey bottles such as Suntory Kakubin, Old, Royal, and IW Harper. The popular food item is donuts, but they tend to sell out if you visit late.

The Brazilian coffee was tasty, but I felt it was not deeply roasted. It was delicious though. It was the first time I experienced such a cold treatment from customers at a restaurant. When a customer asked if there were any available seats upon entering, the response was "Impossible!" Even though a table opened up within 1-2 minutes as I was paying. Perhaps they recently became popular, and are struggling with the sudden increase in customers. I suspect they believe that if they lower their ratings, they can return to how the restaurant was before.

I had coffee and donuts at "Rokuyosha" in Sanjo, Kyoto. It's been hard to get a seat lately, but I was able to visit today after a long time☆ Smoking is allowed on the first floor, while the basement is non-smoking and turns into a bar after 6 pm. The donuts here are crispy, not too sweet, and go well with coffee♪ The coffee costs 500 yen, and the donuts are 180 yen, making it a reasonable and delicious choice!!!
