Setagaya-ku, Daita, Tokyo. "Jashumon" is not a cult or secret society, despite the suspicious name of the cafe (laughs). It is a long-established cafe that always comes up when talking about cafes. Its history began near Kokubunji Station on the Chuo Line. Former sailor and magician Taketoshi Nawa started operating in Kichijoji just after the war, and then moved to Kokubunji. Each store is not a chain, but individually run by magician friends. The conditions for starting a shop are, first, being a magician. Second, not making money. The name of the shop is taken from the favorite book of Mr. Nawa, the first master of the shop, which is a poetry collection called "Jashumon" by Hakushu Kitahara. The master of Jashumon in Setagaya, Mr. Sakudo, was a regular customer at the Kokubunji store. Mr. Sakudo is actually quite remarkable, as he was a disciple of the first generation Inada Tengo (the current Princess Tengo is the second generation). Last year, he fell seriously ill and, due to his age in his 80s, he is no longer performing magic, but he used to show off his skills to customers who visited the store. I wanted to see that (*´-`) Correction: Even now, if he feels like it, he will show it to you. As of October 2017, Jashumon has 6 stores in Ogikubo, Setagaya, Shimoda, Odawara, Ishida, and Takaoka. The Kokubunji and Seiseki Sakuragaoka stores have closed due to the passing of each master (。゚Д゚。). By the way, the Seiseki Sakuragaoka store is said to be the model for the Earth Shop in the Ghibli movie "Whisper of the Heart" (there are various theories). The master of the Ogikubo store also passed away, but his wife has taken over. The store in Setagaya is quietly located in a residential area about a 15-minute walk from Shimo-Kitazawa Station on the Odakyu Line and Keio Inokashira Line. The first floor of a brick house that has been renovated. When you open the door, you will be surprised (°▽°) It's a full-blown Jashumon world. The master, Mr. Sakudo, has a great spirit of service and explained each of the antiques displayed throughout the store. From famous people like Misora Hibari to enka-related items, automatic fly catchers, jukeboxes from the early Showa period, Kirishitan stepping stones, Maria Kannon, matchlock guns, and cloisonné made by his wife... The list goes on and on, so I'll stop here (^o^;) Many celebrities have visited, including the daughter of Ogai Mori, Mari Mori, and Niji Kiyokawa... There are so many, so I'll stop here (^o^;) On this day, there were only two customers, me and two local regular ladies, so I had a one-on-one with the master. So I heard various stories (*´∀`)♪ About the history of Jashumon, the changes in Shimo-Kitazawa, and episodes related to the movie "Beyond the Boundary" released in 2015, although I haven't seen it yet (I was mistaken for a fan on a pilgrimage to a sacred place f(^_^;) It was over in just over an hour. When the daughter (daughter-in-law)? and the wife, who attends daycare, returned, I left the store. It was fun (v^-゜)♪ ◆Today's order◆ Jashumon Tomato Juice 600 yen Rare Cheesecake (set price) 380 yen Finally, the tomato juice is recommended (^^)b "Anmitsu Coffee" is also popular♪ You can only drink it here. The original brand of Jashumon, made with only tomatoes and salt. It has a rich and solid taste. I am Count Dracula himself (*ノω・*)テヘ On the way out, I was given an empty bottle as a souvenir ( ̄▽ ̄) If you like antiques, classic cafes, magic, enka music, storytelling, or "Beyond the Boundary," I recommend itヽ(*´▽)ノ♪ *Due to the master's advanced age and rest period, there may be temporary closures or changes in business hours. It is recommended to call in advance if you are coming from a distant place. #Sekiwake #Automatic fly catcher #Magician #Movie setting #Pilgrimage to a sacred place #Can only go now #Antique lover #Jashumon #Toshigami Jimo #Cafe #Tomato juice #Cake #Again
