I went on a food and cafe-hopping tour in Kyoto, along with some sightseeing! Upon arriving in Kyoto and dropping off my luggage at the hotel, the first cafe I headed to was "Kissa Tirol," located a short walk from Nijo Castle Station. This cafe, which I had visited before, has become one of my favorites. The building, resembling a Japanese-style mountain hut, is charming. The interior has a retro and lovely atmosphere. The place was almost full, with people waiting, but there was a moment when the customers suddenly disappeared. The solo seat by the window is nice. I ordered the must-try Tamago (egg) Sandwich and the curry that caught my eye during my previous visit. I had the Tamago Sandwich and a cafe au lait (same as last time), while my husband had the thick-cut Katsu Curry and an iced coffee. Let's have breakfast! The "Tamago Sandwich (half size)" for 450 yen is visually appealing with its beautiful yellow Tamagoyaki. Despite being a half size, it has a good volume, making it suitable for food hopping. The moist Tamagoyaki has a strong egg flavor, is fluffy and warm, and of course, delicious. The crunchy cucumber and gentle mayonnaise complement it well. The "Thick-cut Katsu Curry" for 1,000 yen (50 yen off when ordered with a drink) features a spicy curry blended with onions from Awaji and domestic beef. The freshly fried Katsu is crispy! The curry has a slightly spicy kick but is mild and flavorful. The Katsu is refreshing. The curry is flavorful, and the freshly fried Katsu is delicious. The "Cafe au Lait" for 500 yen has a strong coffee bitterness that becomes gentle and mild with milk. The "Iced Coffee (unsweetened)" for 480 yen is refreshing with a balanced bitterness and richness, with a hint of bean-like flavor. I opted for coffee fresh with Oyama Junsei cream towards the end. When paying the bill, I noticed a shop card near the register and asked if I could have it since it was hard to reach. To my surprise, I also received matches and a postcard - I was so thrilled! I couldn't help but giggle like a kid (laughs). I feel like taking a photo of the sign and matches together. Kissa Tirol is indeed wonderful - the atmosphere, food, and the lovely staff. My husband also enjoyed it, which is great. I would love to visit again when in Kyoto and have another detour. The slight discrepancy between the menu prices and the bill may be due to the morning hours (the bill prices were lower).

I visited the restaurant during a weekday lunchtime and there were about 6 people waiting outside, but I got seated in about 10 minutes including the wait inside. Many customers were eating "Italian spaghetti" and "curry spaghetti" when I looked around the tables. I ordered the "pork cutlet curry." The pork cutlet curry arrived shortly in a deep plate with plenty of curry sauce and a cutlet on top. The cutlet was crispy without being greasy when dipped into the curry sauce, which had a moderate spiciness and depth of flavor without any strange aftertaste. I finished it in no time. I thought it was not just a nostalgic restaurant but a place where you can enjoy very delicious dishes. It's near Nijo Castle, so I imagine it will be crowded with tourists in the coming season.

I visited on a Saturday morning. The restaurant was almost full around 9:30. I ordered an egg sandwich and an iced coffee. The egg sandwich was voluminous and had a simple yet delicious flavor. Since there were two of us, we shared the sandwich. If I were alone, I thought a half size would be enough. The old-fashioned coffee shop atmosphere was very nice. I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

Well, it's Kyoto. The snack time spot we planned to visit was unexpectedly closed for summer vacation. As Plan B, we dropped by Café Tirol. We had the iced coffee and egg sandwich (half size). The coffee had a flavor that I liked. The egg sandwich was exquisite. If we didn't have plans afterwards, I would have definitely ordered the pork cutlet curry. Thank you for the meal.

During my summer trip to Kyoto, I visited Kissaten Tirol that caught my eye on the morning of arrival. I loved the warm atmosphere and stylish retro space that conveyed being beloved by the locals! The popular menu item, the egg sandwich, was delicious with its fluffy texture and thin slices of cucumber as accents!! The light and smooth morning curry, along with the banana juice. I definitely want to come back again!

It's not a place I usually go to, but since I stayed at a hotel near Nijo Station, I thought it was a chance to visit! When I went, it was brunch time, but it seemed like many people also come for breakfast, so there was already a wait for about 3 groups. It was helpful to be able to wait indoors instead of under the scorching sun. I had the pork cutlet curry with fried egg, Italian spaghetti (Napolitan), egg sandwich (half size), and mixed juice. It's been a while, so I don't remember well... The curry sauce of the pork cutlet was delicious, and the freshly fried cutlet was tasty, so be careful as the white rice goes well with it. The Napolitan... had a typical Western-style restaurant feel and was just average for me personally. The egg sandwich, despite looking voluminous, was surprisingly easy to eat due to the light dashi flavor and mustard mayonnaise. I thought it would have been fine to have a full size instead of a half! I'm not sure if it's because of a TV show featuring the restaurant, but even after leaving, there was still a line of people waiting. Next time I come to Nijo Station, I'll try the hashed beef rice, thank you for the meal!

When in Kyoto, I wanted to have breakfast at a café! So I came to "Kissaten Tirol" in Nijo, with its alpine hut-like exterior. I was surprised to see many people having pork cutlet curry for breakfast. Pork cutlet curry, Neapolitan pasta, and egg sandwiches seem to be popular. Today, I ordered the egg sandwich.
■What I Ate
- Mixed Juice ¥680
- Egg Sandwich (Full Size) ¥800
It arrived in about 10 minutes. The portion was huge. They also have a half-size option, which might be better for those thinking about lunch. The fluffy egg was delicious but quite bland in taste. It was almost non-existent in flavor. (This may vary depending on the chef.) The mixed juice was rich and tasty. Next time, I want to try the pork cutlet curry.

A traditional old-fashioned coffee shop known not only in the city but also nationwide. The interior is surprisingly small, like a familiar ordinary coffee shop, and doesn't feel like a very popular place. The curry, Neapolitan pasta, and egg sandwich are famous, so I ordered a blend coffee and a half-size egg sandwich for breakfast. The dish with Kyoto-style rolled omelette sandwiched in bread was juicy and had sufficient volume even though it was a half-size. And the cost performance is also high. It's just an ordinary coffee shop, but with good taste and good cost performance, it's understandable why it's popular.

The retro atmosphere makes it welcoming, with magazines and newspapers available inside. I ordered the famous egg sandwich, which was fluffy and delicious. I also tried the omurice and dry curry! Both were affordable and tasty. The dry curry had a nice refreshing taste and was easy to eat, while the omurice with ketchup rice and a thin layer of egg on top had a nostalgic flavor.

First visit. Located near Nijo Castle, "Kissa Tirol" on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Took a walk from Nishiin to Nijo Castle. Phew, got all sweaty. Starting to get into visiting retro cafes lately. First visit to "Kissa Tirol." Arrived at 14:27. Entered. Managed to snag the last seat available. Ordered. Coffee float arrived at 14:33. Paid the bill at 15:07. Left. The unsweetened coffee float for 680 yen was a rich and flavorful type with a good balance of bitterness and depth, alternating with the sweetness of the ice cream, providing a nice treat. Many people were ordering food, with curry, spaghetti, and egg sandwiches being popular choices. Saw some customers getting takeout, making me want to visit for lunch sometime. It was a nice café with a good atmosphere. Thank you for the meal. #KissaTirol #NijoCastle

I was able to relax in a calm atmosphere and take my time. I felt the determination of the staff to always fill up the water to the brim. It felt like if you packed all the good things about old-fashioned coffee shops, you would get a place like this. I was delighted to find they offer a half-size egg sandwich. It was just right for a morning snack, filling me up nicely. The chairs and tables are small and cozy, which I found cute and really liked, but it might not be ideal for working. I highly recommend this place for coffee shop enthusiasts.

I visited Tirol after sightseeing at Nijo Castle about 10 years ago. They were promoting their egg sandwich, so I had to go there. I took a taxi from Kyoto Station. The taxi driver happened to be a regular at Tirol and we had a great conversation about the place. When I arrived, I was lucky to be third in line. I waited about 10 minutes to get inside, and then another 5 minutes to be seated. I ordered the egg sandwich, omurice, and my friend got curry with a fried egg on top. It was my first time trying an egg sandwich in Kyoto, and it was incredibly delicious. I will definitely visit again when I come to Kyoto!

On June 14, 2023, I visited Cafe Tirol near Nijo Castle in Kyoto for lunch. They serve breakfast through lunchtime. I arrived a little after 11 am and was seated immediately without having to wait. I ordered the Italian spaghetti with a fried egg on top. It was served with a spoon and fork wrapped in a paper napkin, along with grated cheese and Tabasco sauce. Next, a dish of orange-colored Napolitan spaghetti in an oval-shaped, deep white plate was brought to me. The fried egg was slightly overcooked, but it didn't bother me much. It was delicious in a regular way. It had plenty of ham and mushrooms, and the onions and bell peppers added a nice touch. I decided to try a flavor change halfway through the meal. I sprinkled plenty of Tabasco and grated cheese on top, and it became incredibly delicious. The spiciness of Tabasco and the mellowness of the cheese blended together perfectly. It was quite filling, and I left feeling satisfied. I'm now looking forward to trying their pork cutlet curry next time. Thank you for the meal!

Located a 5-minute walk from JR Nijo Station, Kissa Tirol had a line of about 6 people on a weekday. Despite it being a weekday, the place was always packed. This time, there were many school trip students. The interior had a calm Showa retro atmosphere with around 14 table seats. The items ordered this time were as follows: Naples-style spaghetti - a nostalgic taste. The noodles had a slightly thick and soft texture, quite different from al dente pasta. However, this texture seemed to go well with the sauce for Naples-style spaghetti. The balance of ketchup's sweetness, cheese's richness, and bacon's aroma was great. The ingredients included sausage, onion, bacon, asparagus, and sliced mushrooms. It was very delicious. Egg sandwich - the slightly thick omelet was delicious. The runny texture of the egg, like medium-rare, was delightful. The umami of the broth was also present. The crispiness of the cucumber inside and the spiciness of the mustard added to the appetite. Even after eating Naples-style spaghetti, I could have eaten many of these. Sprinkling salt on it increased the sweetness. This is highly recommended. Thank you for the meal.

I visited on Saturday for lunch and there were about three groups waiting. Despite the busy time, the staff's service was warm and it was a comforting atmosphere. I ordered the Neapolitan with an egg topping, and it was very delicious! For the post-meal iced coffee, I usually drink it black, but this time I ordered it sweetened on a whim, and it was amazingly delicious. It became an unforgettable iced coffee.

I arrived at the restaurant at 8:05 PM on a weekday out of curiosity. There is a coin parking lot diagonally across from the restaurant, and we were lucky to find a spot as there were only two available. The restaurant was full when we entered. We ordered the curry with pork cutlet and fried egg on top, as well as the Italian spaghetti with fried egg on top. The tables were low, giving a nostalgic cafe vibe. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere inside was calming. I especially enjoyed the curry. The Italian spaghetti was also delicious. Many people were ordering the egg sandwich, so I'd like to try that next time. I noticed "morning" written on the menu and asked the staff if the lunch menu was different, and they explained that the menu is the same with only a slight price difference. All my doubts were cleared, and I left the restaurant feeling satisfied and content. Thank you for the meal.

I visited right after the restaurant opened on the weekend. A few seats were taken, but there was still room and we were seated promptly. The popular egg sandwich also comes in a half size, so I ordered that. Unlike the usual fluffy omelette, this one had layers of firmer egg, and I found it quite delicious. By the time we left, there were already a few groups waiting in line. It's very popular, isn't it?
