This time, I planned a Kyoto tour hoping to see autumn leaves. I made a reservation at a restaurant in Arashiyama for the second night, but it turned out to be a complete failure! It seems like I was a week or two too early (*´▽`*) Although I have visited Kyoto countless times, I have never seen autumn leaves (-_-;) Maybe next year, I'll research the timing a bit more before coming to Kyoto. As I get older, I find myself seeking "healing" rather than just focusing on food. So, I visited Arashiyama just before the autumn leaves. It had been a while since I visited Arashiyama. Nowadays, with the situation improving slightly due to COVID-19, even without autumn leaves, it was bustling with people. There were more foreigners too! If it's this crowded without autumn leaves, it might be almost double the number of people during autumn! This time, I took a short drive on the Takao Parkway. The weather was nice, and I felt refreshed! Then, I returned to Arashiyama and took a stroll in the garden of Tenryu-ji Temple. After being dragged along by the kids for souvenirs, we walked to the restaurant. In the evening, Arashiyama strangely becomes empty of people ^^; The restaurant was about a 10-minute walk from Togetsukyo Bridge, quietly nestled in a residential area. It's a historic restaurant established in 1973, but the interior is stylish and modern. It's run by the elderly parents and their daughter, seemingly a family business. The daughter welcomed us with a wonderful smile (^^♪ Although I didn't find healing in the autumn leaves, I was healed by this daughter's smile ~(^^)~! She had a very pleasant demeanor. The whole family agreed, "The daughter's smile was great, right?!" The younger daughter said quietly on the way back. Perhaps her smile left a stronger impression than the food (^^)/ Oh no, that's not true, the food was also amazing! Delicious vegetable appetizers, a rich soup with unique flavors, and fantastic meat. Plus, it was surprisingly cost-effective for Kyoto. This restaurant alone is worth coming to Arashiyama for! It was a wonderful restaurant in every aspect (^0_0^) Wagyu Beef Steak (Filet) 10,000 yen, Wagyu Beef Steak (Sirloin) 7,000 yen. Both come with three appetizers, soup, salad, Wagyu beef steak, rice, and pickles. We paid extra to change the white rice to curry. Now, onto the details. ◆ Asparagus Butter Grilled ◆ Atsugi Shiitake Teppanyaki ◆ Marudai Negi Fried with Yuzu-flavored Vegetables The quality of the vegetables is excellent. The flavors of the vegetables were brought out beautifully, and the cooking methods were superb. Especially the deep-fried round radish was outstanding! ◆ Consomme + Potage + Chicken Broth + Beef Bone Soup It's a very rich soup. The taste is excellent. A soup that is truly one of a kind. It reminded me of the rich soup I had at Sushijin in Toyama, but this one is like the "meat version." ◆ Kitakari Potato Salad with Fruit Tomato and Cucumber Salad This potato salad is also excellent. It has a great texture, and the taste is unique as well. ◆ Main Meat Dish Tokushima Awa Beef Female * Fillet - Tender with plenty of meaty flavor. It's incredibly delicious! * Sirloin - When you chew, the sweetness of the fat spreads in your mouth. Both are delicious! ◆ Curry This curry is made with fatty parts. It's not very spicy. It tastes like high-quality curry. To get such high-quality meat at this price... In the expensive Kyoto city center, it would easily be 1.5 times the price (;^ω^) Even compared to other prefectures, the cost performance is undoubtedly good. Apart from meat dishes, their emphasis on vegetables is also a point of praise! This aspect gives a Kyoto-like feel to the restaurant. Overall, it's a high-cost performance restaurant without cutting corners. However, since the ingredients are imported from various regions, you may not feel much of the "Kyoto essence." Nevertheless, it's definitely a great restaurant with wonderful dishes and the best smiles. It might be a better harvest than the autumn leaves (^_-)-☆ Thank you for the meal.

I visited during my Kyoto trip over spring break, so I thought it would be necessary to make a reservation. I found this place while searching for delicious restaurants around the Arashiyama Line on Tabelog. I took a chance and made a reservation, which was easily completed. It was lucky! I visited with 4 children and ordered the recommended lunch for two, a hamburger as a single item, and a salad. Many reviews mentioned that the vegetables were delicious, and I can understand why. The meat dishes for lunch were grilled skirt steak and minced cutlet. The skirt steak was tender and delicious, but the sauce was a bit sweet. The hamburger and minced cutlet were delicious. The staff at the restaurant were very kind, and even though it was a busy time, they recommended sightseeing after the meal (they even said it was okay to use the parking lot until nighttime). Thank you for your hospitality. I will visit again.

I made a reservation at this popular restaurant and visited with my family. We enjoyed the lunch course and wine. The amount and taste of the appetizers, as well as the simple seasoning of the steak, were very delicious. It was nice to be able to enjoy multiple flavors of desserts. They even saw us off to the outside when we left. I thought it was a delicious and nice family-run restaurant.

This year, I chose this restaurant as the first place to visit in Kyoto. Overall, I was very impressed with the deliciousness of each dish. I chose the 8000 yen course and was satisfied with almost every dish. The impression was different from the 2-star yellow book of some restaurant the next day. Personally, I felt that the portion was slightly lacking and the lack of dessert was a bit disappointing, but everything else was perfect. The proprietress of the restaurant was very friendly and made the dining experience enjoyable. Below are brief comments on the dishes: (1) The filtered water was clean and well-maintained, and tasted similar to the water I drink at home. The water in Kyoto, when filtered properly, is excellent. It doesn't have the metallic taste typical of Kyoto water. The water filter used here seems to be of high quality. (2) The ginger ale was delicious. (3) Broccoli scallops were seasoned with dashi and butter, with the buttery scallops overshadowing the broccoli flavor. The overall taste was well-balanced. (4) Shiitake mushrooms were grilled and had a unique taste that was far superior to regular mushrooms. The freshness and flavor were exceptional. (5) Yodo radish was crispy on the outside and melted in the mouth, with a perfect balance of flavors. The batter had a hint of charred taste and yuzu, creating a delightful combination. (9) Beef tataki was lightly seasoned, served with garlic chips and fresh garlic. The beef was dipped in ponzu sauce, sandwiched with garlic, and wrapped in seaweed. A unique and enjoyable way to eat. (10) Consomme and potage mixed soup was the only dish that felt a bit confusing, like a milky coffee soup. Personally, I preferred the consomme alone. As the course progressed, it became more difficult to focus on the taste of the dishes. (11) Awa beef fillet cutlet was also delicious.

I visited for lunch during my sightseeing in Arashiyama. I made a reservation online about two weeks ago and the good impression was already conveyed from the email reply. I ordered the chef's special lunch for 3800 yen. The moment I entered the restaurant, there was a very pleasant atmosphere that made my expectations soar. Since I don't like heating too much, I had requested a seat near the entrance, so I waited at the end of the counter. The high ceiling also made the air feel nice. The appetizer plate... the vegetables were so delicious... it was amazing. Following that, the consomme potage soup, minced cutlet, grilled ribs, and dessert were all truly delicious. The service was also very pleasant, and I was able to have a really good lunchtime. They even saw me off, thank you very much. It was a feast.

This is a restaurant near Saga Arashiyama Station. I made a reservation and visited. The interior has a large table where about 6 people can sit, as well as counter seats. I chose the roast steak course. The appetizer that came out first was very simple, but each ingredient was enjoyable and excellent. The broccoli was infused with scallop broth. The shiitake mushrooms were served with rock salt. And the daikon fry, completely soaked in broth. When you bite into it, the broth oozes out, making you want to keep eating just this fry. The meat was crispy on the outside, slightly pink on the inside, releasing delicious fat when chewed, it was excellent. The dessert was chocolate ice cream with a hint of rum and crispy crème brûlée. This was also delicious. I am completely satisfied with everything. It seems to be a family-run business, the daughter saw us off, and we were able to leave the restaurant feeling good. Both the food and service were excellent!

Lunch during a visit to Arashiyama and Sagano in Kyoto. During the autumn foliage season, all the reasonably priced restaurants were fully booked, but miraculously we managed to secure a reservation at this restaurant located just a few minutes' walk from Saga-Arashiyama Station, tucked away in a residential area. With no signboard and a stylish residential appearance, we were a bit lost. By the way, the name of the restaurant, "Boruta," is said to be the chef's nickname from his younger days. ・Chef's Choice Lunch (Hamburger) 2,500 yen ・Recommended Lunch (Awa Beef Chuck Roll and Minced Cutlet) 3,800 yen + Change rice to mini curry +600 yen The appetizer assortment consisted of three items: deep-fried sesame tofu, fried Yodo radish, and broccoli simmered in scallop broth. Each dish showcased a wonderful blend of Japanese and Western flavors. Particularly impressive was the fried Yodo radish, with its crispy coating giving way to the rich umami of the radish soaked in broth. The soup was a mix of consommé and potage, to be enjoyed without a spoon, sipped from a teacup. For the main dishes, both the hamburger and minced cutlet featured generous amounts of finely chopped onions, asserting their sweetness, and the minced meat was juicy. The Awa beef chuck roll melted in the mouth. The meal was to be eaten primarily with chopsticks, served with pickles on the rice, and dessert included a Japanese chestnut Mont Blanc roll cake, with the option of coffee or Japanese tea. A steakhouse with a thorough Japanese taste. Amidst the hustle and bustle of the touristy area, we were able to enjoy a leisurely lunch in a calm atmosphere.

I encountered a restaurant at JR Saga Arashiyama Station during my trip from Tokyo. Amid my whirlwind tour of Nagoya and Kyoto trying delicious food, I happened upon this place and enjoyed it so much that I visited two days in a row. The restaurant offers a combination of Japanese vegetables and teppanyaki-style dishes. The vegetables were delicious, and dishes like pounded wagyu beef, hamburger steak, and minced cutlets were also tasty. The potage consomme soup served each time was amazingly delicious. A place I'd definitely revisit when in Arashiyama. Lunch courses: 2500 yen (hamburger steak as main), 3800 yen (minced cutlets & grilled kalbi) Dinner course: 6000 yen (steak with 50g less meat)

This is a restaurant that I have always wanted to visit. It was known as a place where the late Seishu Setouchi used to enjoy meat, and after seeing it on a TV show, my daughter recommended it to me. I made a reservation for the recommended lunch set for 3800 yen online. I received a prompt and polite email from the restaurant, which left a very positive impression even before my visit. We arrived on time for our reservation. The restaurant has counter seats and large table seats. We were seated at the far end of the counter. We started with a drink and a toast. Here is the beginning of the course. First dish: Fukuhara bamboo shoot fritter with fruit tomato and garlic. The fritter had a rich and crispy texture, capturing the natural sweetness and aroma of the bamboo shoot. The sweet fruit tomato was served with a refreshing cucumber sauce. My husband, who is not fond of garlic, enjoyed the dish thanks to the delicious garlic oil. Second dish: Consomme potage soup. It's a combination of consomme and potage soup, and it's amazing! The balance of flavors was so good that you could keep eating it endlessly. It was served in a small ceramic cup, and my husband jokingly said he wanted a bigger soup bowl. Third dish: One-bite fillet cutlet and grilled kalbi with rice and pickles. The tender and sweet sauce (probably homemade) paired well with the one-bite size fillet cutlet and the high-quality grilled kalbi with a thick layer of fat. It was a satisfying main course that went well with rice and pickles. The portion was just right for us, and we enjoyed it effortlessly. Fourth dish: Dessert and coffee. The dessert of the day was strawberry shortcake and strawberry ice cream. The classic shortcake was generous in size, and the ice cream had visible fruit pieces. The coffee at the end was fragrant, and we left the lunch feeling fully satisfied. Reading other reviews, it seems that the vegetables are delicious, and I can now understand why! As I left the restaurant, I couldn't help but think that the meat dishes loved by the late Seishu Setouchi must have been a source of vitality. It's a wonderful restaurant run by a family of three, exuding warmth. While Kyoto has the popular Western-style restaurant Kuishinbo Yamnaka, personally, I preferred Borruta. However, for men or those with a big appetite, the portion size may feel small (please refer to the photos). We enjoyed the meal very much. Thank you for the delicious meal!

【1000th Review Commemorative Project Part 2 ★ Unreviewed Restaurant I Want to Keep Visiting Vol.5】In this dazzling season, painting the town in golden hues, your profile quietly embraced me. Our encounter was surely not just a coincidence; somewhere in my heart, I was waiting for it. Today marks the 7th anniversary since I started writing reviews on Tabelog, and I have proudly achieved my 1000th review milestone! By the way, my first review was on April 29, 2016, so today is exactly 7 years. Recently, I hardly see anyone hitting milestone numbers like me, but reaching this 1000th review has always been a goal for me. When I first started writing reviews, I never imagined I would come this far. The lyrics at the beginning were borrowed from a sentence in the 1000th review by my friend Iro, who introduced me to the unknown world of Tabelog and inspired me to start. Though we are from different generations, I also love this song. The 1000th review at "Boruta" is a fitting tribute to this milestone, featuring a teppanyaki restaurant in Arashiyama, Kyoto. Despite being in Arashiyama, away from the hustle and bustle of tourist spots like Togetsukyo Bridge and the bamboo grove, this restaurant stands quietly with its concrete exterior engraved with the name "Boruta." Established in 1973, this long-standing family-owned restaurant has a beautifully maintained interior. On this occasion, I was seated at the counter in the front. We started with a toast with bottled beer. The menu we enjoyed was the Chef's Dinner Course for ¥6000, including 3 vegetable dishes, soup, salad, 2 meat dishes, and curry. The vegetable dishes featured spring bamboo shoots, turnips, and asparagus, all delicious and showcasing the natural flavors of the ingredients. The soup, a specialty here, was rich and full of various flavors, a unique and unforgettable experience. The meat dishes included roast beef and steak, both with a good amount of fat, making them flavorful but might be a bit heavy for vegetarians. The meal ended with a mini curry using the fatty part of the meat, which was undeniably delicious. In conclusion, the quality of food at this price point was outstanding. The owner's dedication to sourcing high-quality ingredients, personally visiting suppliers on days off, is commendable. This commitment to ingredients and culinary excellence is truly remarkable. With such high value for money and a distinct identity separate from tourist-focused establishments in Arashiyama, I highly recommend visiting this restaurant when in the area. Bon appétit!

For a dinner in Kyoto at night, I was lucky to get a reservation by contacting them on a weekday. It's quite far from the main street, so you wouldn't find it unless you knew about it! The entrance is lovely from the gate. The restaurant has a calm yet sophisticated atmosphere with a stone vibe. I remember being warmly greeted on that cold day. I ordered the course menu. First, we had green beans with sesame dressing and fried daikon with yuzu. The fried dish was incredibly delicious! I had never tasted anything like it before. It's the kind of enjoyment you get from dining out. The shiitake mushrooms were also very flavorful. Instead of unexpected combinations, they seemed to have chosen the pairings that best complemented each vegetable, which I appreciated. The marinated tuna was also irresistible. And the main meat dish was outstanding, of course! We sat at the counter. I couldn't resist watching as the regular customers who arrived later ordered the butter-fried bread? It was cooked right in front of us, and I couldn't help but be intrigued by what kind of dish it was. I wanted to try it. After we left, despite the very cold day, they saw us off until we were out of sight. It was a heartwarming evening.

I went to a teppanyaki restaurant called "Boruta" in a residential area of Arashiyama and enjoyed their teppanyaki course. <Menu of the day 2019/9> Asparagus, shiitake mushrooms, and taro teppanyaki - I could taste the sweetness of the ingredients. Homemade potato salad - a nostalgic and comforting taste. Steamed whole sea bream divided into three portions. The crispy scales were delicious. Wagyu steak, rice, beef tongue, soup, and more are included. Each dish allowed me to savor the natural flavors of the ingredients. The hospitality of the owner and the female staff was very warm and welcoming. It's a cozy restaurant that makes you want to visit again and again. The owner mentioned that he is getting older and may not continue for much longer, but I hope they keep going for a long time to come.

Starting from drinking soba, then heading to Monkey Park... It was quite tough to climb with alcohol in my system. By the time I descended, it was already past 4 PM. I had to return the rental bicycle by 5 PM. It cost 1000 yen for a day, but I rode it a lot and got my money's worth! I hurried to return it♪ I had some time before my dinner reservation, so I walked through the bamboo forest with a can of beer in hand, then headed back to the Togetsukyo Bridge. By the way, this was my third time drinking at Togetsukyo Bridge. I must really like rivers! The restaurant "Boruta" is highly rated, known for their famous yakitori skewers. I definitely have to visit this place. Not only is the meat great, but the vegetables are also delicious! With the soaring vegetable prices this year due to the intense heat, it's a delight. I'm looking forward to it! Since I already had plenty of beer outside, I toasted with white wine. The okra with black sesame was incredibly sticky, but in a good way. It was crunchy and fresh. The deep-fried taro was also quite sticky, like it was giving me energy. It was hearty and rich in taro flavor. The shimeji mushroom with anchovy was a first for me in terms of quantity. I thought I didn't like it, but it was chewy and delicious. The two types of meat dishes were both tender and high-quality, but maybe a bit heavy... I'm a vegetarian, so that's just my opinion. The chef came out to the counter to slice the roast beef-like meat. He had the air of a silent artisan. The steak was also soft and of top quality, but maybe a bit too much for me as a vegetarian. The soup was exquisite, with the pure flavor of vegetables, slightly sweet, and gently thickened. It was a kind soup. The salad and rice were just right for my late lunch and small appetite. It felt like a good place to visit after a day of sightseeing and eating around. Actually, the next day was my anchovy's birthday, so I had a little hope for today. But in reality... "Oh, it's your birthday tomorrow? I had no idea... You should have told me earlier!" It was so funny! I unintentionally sounded like I was demanding something. I couldn't go down the Hozugawa River, and there were many temporary closures, but it was a very enjoyable summer. It was fun! Thank you for the meal!

My friend who made a reservation here came down with a stomach bug, so I decided to go alone since our schedules didn't match. I'm heading to the restaurant from JR Saga Arashiyama Station. I used Tabelog to find "Boruta" and clicked on "Map." Even though I'm bad with directions, I can still find the restaurant with this "Map" feature. It's really a helpful function. The owner here spends a lot of time sourcing ingredients, especially focusing on vegetables. When I was hesitating between various dishes like vegetable dishes, beef cutlet, shrimp fry, and steak, the staff kindly advised me, "The beef cutlet as a single item is expensive, so how about getting the beef cutlet course with 3 vegetable dishes for ¥1,500?" The appetizers were delicious, especially the tomato salad, taro tempura, and snap pea garlic oil. The vegetable dishes included butter sautéed spinach, teppanyaki-style shiitake mushrooms, and fried round radish. The soup mixing consommé and potage was rich and comforting. The beef cutlet course had five generously sized, tender cutlets with flavorful demi-glace sauce. The dessert was a delightful combination of melon, chocolate mousse, and coffee liqueur. I was so full by the end. The meticulous preparation and deliciousness of each dish impressed me. I was also curious about what other customers were having. The thoughtful service made me very happy. I've had solo dining experiences with light meals before, but this was my first time at such a restaurant. The attentive service made it comfortable for me to dine alone. Thank you very much. As I browse Tabelog, more and more restaurants I want to visit keep popping up. I left thinking, "Maybe I'll gradually try various restaurants alone." It was a delightful meal.

When it comes to meat in Kyoto, the long-established restaurant Volta in Arashiyama is the place to go. They pay attention not only to the meat but also to the vegetables. The dishes are beautiful when taken with an iPod nano X ✨ The dinner starts from 5000 yen, and they also offer vegetable courses. For lunch, there were 10 types of vegetables available, starting from around 2000 yen. We shared different courses and à la carte items, so I forgot the exact prices. The chef's dedication and conversations were enjoyable ☺ Of course, the Kobe beef fillet was amazing ♥ The plating is simple, bringing out the deliciousness of the ingredients. Even though it was a late lunch after having soba, we were able to leisurely enjoy the meal. When you visit Arashiyama, be sure to check this place out!

The restaurant I heard was known for its delicious vegetables has been in business for about 40 years. They are open 4 days a week, and the chef spends the 3 days off looking for ingredients. There is a counter in front of the teppan grill and large table seating. Lunch starts at ¥2000, and the steak lunch varies in price depending on the meat. This time, we ordered the omakase dinner for ¥5000, focusing on vegetables with a little meat. The dinner included 3 vegetable dishes, omakase appetizer, soup, salad, steak (40g), rice, and pickles. The spinach with grilled matsutake and yuzu was refreshing and delicious. The deep-fried daikon cooked in the best dashi was crispy on the outside and tender inside. The broccoli flavored with scallop was subtly enhanced by the scallop umami. The crab salad was full of shredded crab meat. The soup mixed consomme and potage with collagen and a hint of butter. The 40g steak was Awa beef from Shikoku, cooked on the teppan with soy sauce and butter. The high-altitude rice from Nara prefecture was delicious. Even without anything else, it was tasty. I was very satisfied. They also offer a ¥5000 course with only vegetables, which seems enjoyable. The chef is taciturn, but his wife and daughter are very kind. I would love to visit again.

【Overall Review】Located a 5-minute walk from Saga Arashiyama Station in Kyoto, this steak and Western cuisine restaurant is known for its unique focus on vegetables. The building has been rebuilt 20 years ago, but the establishment itself dates back 40 years, making it a small but well-established local favorite. The restaurant is open 4 days a week, with the owner personally sourcing ingredients from local producers while the restaurant is closed. The carefully selected ingredients are transformed into exquisite dishes through skilled cooking techniques and creative seasoning. The attention to detail extends to the presentation, with a focus on elegant tableware. The restaurant showcases the owner's personality and creativity, making it a truly exceptional dining experience.-----------------------------------------The restaurant is located in a residential area near Jozanji Temple, famous for its autumn foliage, on the opposite side of the popular bamboo grove walking path in Arashiyama. Despite its concrete exterior with the name "Boruta" carved into the wall, the interior is stylish and tastefully decorated, creating an interesting contrast. The menu features Western dishes and steaks, with set courses ranging from ¥5,000 to ¥12,000. The courses include options focusing on fish, vegetables, and the high-quality ingredients the restaurant takes pride in sourcing. The owner devotes a significant amount of time to ingredient procurement, especially emphasizing the quality of the vegetables. Although I visited during lunchtime, the restaurant confirmed they could accommodate the dinner course menu upon reservation, which was a pleasant surprise. For this visit, I ordered the ¥5,000 chef's choice dinner course and enjoyed a bottle of beer.・Spinach and Matsutake Mushroom OhitashiThe simple ohitashi seasoned with yuzu juice and soy sauce was surprisingly delicious! The texture of the spinach and matsutake mushrooms was excellent, with rich flavors. The subtle acidity of the yuzu added a nice touch. This dish highlighted the quality of the ingredients and the skillful seasoning and combination.・Deep-Fried Daikon Radish Cooked in DashiThis dish featured daikon radish cooked in dashi and served as a fried dish, resulting in a juicy and smooth texture with a crispy coating. The combination of the crispy coating and the moist daikon radish cooked in dashi was exceptionally tasty.・Broccoli Cooked in Scallop BrothAlthough it appeared to be just boiled broccoli, the aroma of scallops subtly emerged. The broccoli, usually considered a slightly bitter vegetable, was surprisingly sweet and gentle. The pairing with scallop broth enhanced the overall taste, creating a delicious blend of textures, aromas, and flavors.・Crab SaladThe salad consisted of chopped cabbage, cucumber, and an equal amount of shredded crab. A visually appealing and flavorful salad where the slightly strong saltiness complemented the rich flavors of the crab and vegetables. Another tasty dish!・Consommé and Potage SoupA soup combining consommé and potage, with a light texture yet rich in flavor. The umami and aroma of mushrooms and onions were prominent, with a significant amount of collagen resulting in an incredibly tasty soup. Despite not containing any ingredients, the soup had a strong impact even in small quantities.・Potato Salad and Cucumber PicklesUnlike regular potato salad, this dish had a well-balanced flavor with the spiciness of raw onions and the creamy sauce. The tomato had a firm texture, adding a surprising element. The vegetables at this restaurant are exceptionally flavorful.・Steak (40g)The restaurant sources beef from various suppliers, and on this day, they were using Awa beef, likely from the sirloin area. The steak was meticulously trimmed from a large piece just before serving, allowing customers to witness the cooking process. The steak had a crispy sear on the surface and was cooked to a perfect medium-rare in the center, which I personally enjoyed. The quality of the cooking was evident, and the steak was delicious.
