I often pass by this area on my bicycle, but I have never used it because there are often closed or empty shops when I try to buy something in the afternoon on holidays. This time, after having lunch at the nearby Taverna Il Diavolo on a weekday, I stopped by. As expected, it was midday on a weekday, so some items were sold out, but the anpan and cream pan that everyone had written about were still available, so I bought them right away. ⚫︎ Cream Pan (207 yen): From its appearance, you can tell that it is carefully and meticulously made with dedication. When I took a bite, it was truly exquisite, soft and moist, without any peculiarities, a bread suitable for everyone to savor slowly. The cream was rich in egg yolk, with a fine and delicate cream that did not give the impression of being made in large quantities at once. At first, I thought it was expensive, but after actually eating it, I think it is worth the price. ⚫︎ Organic Anpan (223 yen): The bread dough is the same as the cream pan above, but this anpan is excellent! The red bean paste is made to match this bread, showing a considerable amount of thought put into it. It's hard to express, but the red bean paste, like the cream before, is made with care, and the harmony between the red bean paste and poppy seeds in the bread is outstanding. If I were to say, the sweetness of the red bean paste is subtle, or rather, the sweetness is felt afterwards to enhance the harmony with the bread. Highly recommended. Recently, there has been a lot of media attention on Kyoto's bread, with many bakeries for a city of its size, each with its own strong commitment. Just going around bakeries alone is worth it as a tourist activity. It's one of the reasons why I'm glad to live in Kyoto. This time, I chose simple bread, but next time, I want to buy some savory bread.
