- Established for 40 years, beloved local ramen for 530 yen
- No waiting: Visited on Saturday at 10:15 PM
Established for 40 years, the original store of Daikoku Ramen, loved in Kyoto since the old days, where you can enjoy a serving of ramen for 530 yen. Located in a residential area a 3-minute walk from Fushimi-Momoyama Station. The exterior is marked by a yellow, flashy sign with the name of the store in black letters, always overflowing with customers. Inside, upon opening the door, there are 33 seats with table seating in the front and counter seating in the back. The joy of being able to enjoy ramen in Kyoto, once priced at 470 yen, even in this age of high cost, for 530 yen is delightful. And when settling the bill, you also receive a 100 yen discount coupon that has been available since the old days. The hospitality of being able to eat at a lower price when you become a repeat customer on top of this affordability is irresistible. This time, I ordered the Chashu Ramen.
- Chashu Ramen 680 yen
Soup: Pork bone and chicken bone soy sauce
Noodles: Thin straight noodles
Toppings: Pork thigh chashu, green onions, bean sprouts
The soup, with a white, thick consistency, combines the richness of pork bone and the umami of chicken bone, creating a rich and addictive flavor that remains unchanged. The low oil content is also a plus. The noodles are basic straight noodles, on the softer side. I forgot to ask for firm noodles... The thinly sliced chashu, with minimal fat, has a flavorful taste typical of old-fashioned ramen shops. The simple toppings of plenty of green onions and bean sprouts. It's been about 10 years since I last had it, but the nostalgia and the unchanged taste of the soup were moving. I will definitely come back!
