【Mojiko Port Expedition Edition!】Exploring the Taisho romance of the port town Mojiko Port. For lunch, of course, we tried the famous baked curry of Mojiko Port. We visited "Koganemushi" located about a 3-minute walk from the Idemitsu Art Museum Station. I was curious why baked curry became a specialty in Mojiko Port, so I did a little research. Mojiko Port flourished as a trading port from the Meiji era to the early Showa era. There was active exchange with the West, and many Western-style restaurants lined the streets. According to one theory, the beginning of "baked curry" was around the 30s of the Showa era. Leftover curry was baked in the oven in a gratin style at a certain cafe, and it turned out to be "quite delicious!" The rest is history as it became a popular dish in households as well. "Koganemushi" was established in 1977 (Showa 52). It is a long-standing cafe loved for over 40 years in Mojiko Port. ■ Store Yellow signboard. The font has a slight retro feel to it. A nice storefront. Pulling the door open, we entered the retro-style interior with a warm wooden feel. The menu is posted on the wall. There are also manga available. There are table seats in the front and counter seats in the back. There are about 15 seats in total, and it was almost full when we arrived around 1:00 PM. The wife manages the hall, and the husband takes care of the kitchen. The teamwork between them when calling out "Baked curry coming up" and "Cutlet curry coming up" was impressive. We were seated at the counter. ■ Menu They offer Mojiko Port's famous baked curry, as well as hashed beef rice and spaghetti. Spaghetti at this kind of cafe is always tempting, but we stuck to our original plan. We ordered the Baked Curry for 700 yen. It arrived in about 10 minutes. Let's dig in. The curry is a special one that has been simmered and added with a broth simmered with vegetables and beef for three days since its establishment over 40 years ago. The spices are subtle, but it has a rich flavor. It has a very gentle taste that seems to reflect the personality of the wife. And when you add plenty of cheese, it's even better. It's nice to have chunks of beef, carrots, asparagus, corn, bacon, and other vegetables in it. The French onion on top is doing a fantastic job with its crispy texture. It adds a great accent to the dish. About a third of the way through, we cracked a soft-boiled egg open. The richness of the egg makes the flavor even milder. The effort to keep it interesting until the end is wonderful. ■ Final thoughts The charm of this restaurant lies not only in the food but also in the personality of the wife. The cheerful and pleasant service with a bright voice. I was surprised to see handwritten notes in Korean to communicate with the many Korean customers. Even though it was my first time there, I didn't feel like it was my first time. It's a lovely place with a comforting feeling like home. It was a wonderful dining experience. Thank you.

Around 5:30 in the evening, before leaving Kyushu, I was unsure about having dinner early, but ultimately decided to try the famous baked curry in Moji Port. I wanted to make sure I ate at a place with the highest rating on Tabelog, and ended up at this restaurant. The place looked quite old, with a nostalgic atmosphere like an old-fashioned coffee shop. An elderly female owner managed the place alone, with a kind smile as she took my order and engaged in conversation, creating a warm and welcoming service. Of course, I ordered the baked curry! Surprisingly, it was only ¥700. Despite being slightly away from the tourist spot of Moji Port Retro, this price was a steal. The curry was served with plenty of melted cheese and topped with fried onions. The owner advised me to pierce the egg in the middle with a spoon before it solidified, but it was already quite solid (laughs). The curry sauce honestly tasted like retort curry. Although the fried onions added a crispy texture, it felt like a regular curry baked in a gratin style, which was a bit underwhelming. I expected a unique taste as it was a specialty of Moji Port, but it was just too ordinary. The saving grace was the owner's attentive service. I wonder if all the other restaurants are like this too? Thank you for the meal.

I tried baked curry for the first time. In addition to baked curry, they also had tonkatsu curry and hashed beef rice. The prices were reasonable and good. If it was closer, I would definitely go there often! I will go again when I visit Moji Port! Next time, I will try the hashed beef rice!

I visited a famous curry restaurant near Mojiko Retro. It was my first time trying Mojiko's baked curry. I was excited! Even though I went for lunch outside of regular hours, the restaurant was full of customers. I debated between pork cutlet curry and baked curry, but I stuck to my original choice and ordered the baked curry. The presentation was fantastic and really whet my appetite. It was piping hot. The spiciness was mild, with a mellow flavor, but it was delicious. The combination of cheese and curry was unbeatable. Personally, I wouldn't mind if it was spicier. It had a gentle taste, like curry cooked by a mother. The service was polite and excellent, just as expected from a popular restaurant! Next time, I'll try the pork cutlet curry. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal!

This is the beginning of a grilled curry tour in Moji Port. We only visited two restaurants. First, we went to the famous restaurant Koganemushi. The friendly lady (maybe the owner?) greeted us with a warm smile, earning a perfect 10 points! She used Korean to communicate with customers, creating a friendly and pleasant atmosphere. I ordered the grilled curry with a pork cutlet topping, as it was recommended. The fact that they served the cutlet on a separate plate was a nice touch. The fried onions on top did a great job enhancing the dish. The pork cutlet was crispy and flavorful. The generous amount of cheese added made it even more delicious when mixed with the egg. It's easy to see why this place is so popular. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Moreover, the staff's kindness and elegance shone through their customer service. If I have the chance to visit Moji Port again, I will definitely come back to this restaurant! ♡

1-1-24 Higashimachi, Moji-ku, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture Koganemushi Yaki Curry for 700 yen Ingredients include ham, asparagus, corn, soft-boiled egg, onion fry beef, parsley, and cheese on top, resembling a mixed pizza. The curry is on the watery side without a strong spice flavor, more like traditional curry. The cozy atmosphere of the restaurant is old-fashioned and nice.

Baked curry. For 700 yen, the portion size is generous and the taste is worth the price. It's a great deal. It comes out hot with a soft-boiled egg in the middle. Delicious! The mother who runs the place is kind and elegant, leaving a good impression. The other curries and hayashi rice also look delicious and I'm curious to try them. It's a great restaurant.

I arrived near Moji Port and tried to find the black ship, but it seems to have disappeared. I was disappointed. I went into a souvenir shop and bought some mentaiko and other items to send as gifts. I also explored around Moji Port Station and felt like I had seen it on various TV shows. The area around the station was crowded, making it difficult to get the baked curry. I heard there was a nice shop called "Koganemushi" a little further away, and it turned out to be a popular place. Luckily, I managed to get a table and tried their baked curry with eggs and various vegetables hidden under curry and cheese. I like my eggs firm, so I quickly mixed them to get a half-cooked texture, which was a success. The curry was mild with a slight spicy kick, making it a universally loved flavor. The coffee was also soothing with a gentle aroma and taste. I am grateful for this wonderful encounter.

During weekdays, there is no wait during daytime! The must-try dish is the baked curry!! The baked curry in Moji is a specialty that I wanted to try at least once! The half-boiled egg hidden under the cheese, when cracked open and mixed with the curry and cheese, creates an exquisite taste! It was delicious! There was more cheese than expected, and it maintained its creamy texture until the end, which was amazing! And all of this for 700 yen, it's quite reasonable! It was delicious! Thank you for the meal!

Koganemushi is a cafe located a 3-5 minute walk from Dejima Art Museum Station. It is highly rated among the eateries in the Moji Port area, a popular tourist spot. You can enjoy the famous Moji Port baked curry here, so it's a place worth stopping by during your sightseeing. Despite its old-fashioned atmosphere dating back over 60 years, the cafe remains very popular, thanks in part to its warm and cheerful customer service. We tried the baked curry and katsu curry this time. The baked curry, with its crispy onion fries, nicely browned cheese, fresh parsley, and colorful toppings, was not only visually appealing but also delicious. The katsu curry, with its perfectly balanced sweet and spicy flavors, was also a hit. The generous portions of ingredients, such as sweet asparagus, fatty bacon, and curry-friendly corn, offered a variety of delicious tastes in every bite. The quality of the curry itself was also top-notch. Be sure to visit and try it out! Thank you for the meal!

When you visit Mojiko Port, you must try the baked curry! I went to one of the top-ranked restaurants on Tabelog. The place has an old-fashioned cafe style. The lady who served us was very kind and created a warm atmosphere. The hot baked curry was topped with plenty of cheese and had a sweet flavor. They provide spices at each table for adjusting the spiciness. It was very cold outside, but the curry warmed me up. The restaurant was small and got crowded quickly, so timing is important. Overall, I was impressed by the staff's kindness. Thank you for the meal!

I visited "Koganemushi" in Higashimotocho, Moji Ward, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture!! After enjoying craft beer in Hakozaki and sobering up, I arrived in Moji (Moji Port) for the first time!! The scenery changes drastically from around Kokura, with the sea, red brick buildings, and historical structures everywhere, but most of all, the city is filled with the smell of curry wherever you go (laughs)... Curry lovers can't resist it♪ The specialty of Moji Port is "baked curry." First, I had to try this. Most of the famous curry shops lined up around Moji Port Station seemed to be aimed at tourists, so I suspected and headed to a well-known shop a little further away (laughs). The shop has a retro atmosphere, a mix of a coffee shop and a snack bar. I ordered the famous "baked curry" without hesitation, but the katsu curry also looked delicious♪ It arrived without fanfare, as the dish is a plate after all!! It's not a spicy curry, but a home-style curry with plenty of cheese on top and a hidden raw egg in the center. The crispy fried onions add a nice touch. I mix it with the egg and enjoy it. It has a nostalgic and gentle taste. The combination of curry, cheese, and egg is great, as expected, but I was hoping for a more sizzling presentation, maybe on a hot plate. The portion is elegant, so those who want to eat a lot might find it a bit lacking. The correct label for Moji Port Cider... not good or bad, just right♪ The city of Moji Port, filled with the scent of curry. The curry tasting journey continues... (laughs)

- Genre: Coffee shop, Local cuisine, Curry - Area: Higashimotocho, Moji-ku, Kitakyushu City - Access: 7 minutes walk from JR Moji Port Station - Parking: Not available (Coin parking nearby) - Credit card payment: Not available - Number of visits: 2nd time - Number of reviews: 1st time On this day, I casually visited "Gokanemushi" in Kitakyushu City, Moji-ku, Higashimotocho area. Exterior and Interior: This coffee shop is located in Higashimotocho, Moji-ku, Kitakyushu City. The exterior has a commercial-looking sign, but the interior is a classic and gentle coffee shop with a unified dark brown color scheme. Soft background music plays, and the friendly service of the couple creates a classic yet soothing atmosphere. The interior is non-smoking. Seating: There are two 4-seater and two 2-seater tables near the entrance, and counter seats at the back. Menu: Featuring Moji Port's famous baked curry, as well as curry, hashed beef rice, spaghetti, and more. They also serve coffee typical of a coffee shop. I ordered the following: - Napoletana Spaghetti (650 yen) including tax. Strong Points: This old-fashioned coffee shop guarantees both service and taste. The soft and friendly service is exemplary and sets a high standard for others to follow. Overall, I would rate it around 3.7, but personally, if you want to try the baked curry, this is the place to go. The service and taste are excellent, and the prices are reasonable. The napoletana spaghetti may not be the best choice, but I have tried it and can vouch for it. It's a simple and clean place, which is refreshing compared to other places that may be cluttered. For those who believe that local cuisine should be straightforward and delicious, this place is a must-visit.

First visit to Moji Port. On the day, there was a fried chicken event, but I skipped that and headed here for the baked curry! The interior of the shop had an old-fashioned coffee shop vibe, and even though I didn't order, it seemed like they also put effort into their coffee. The baked curry, tax included 700 yen, was cheap! I noticed towards the end that there was an egg in the center of the curry, but it had cooked through by then. The taste was just right, not too spicy or too sweet, and the cheese on top was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

After taking a leisurely walk around Moji Port, I decided to try the local specialty here, the "yaki curry." I had previously tried it at Bear Fruits and it was delicious, so my expectations were high for this place as well. I arrived 20 minutes before opening time and found myself at the front of the line. The staff opened promptly at 11:45 and welcomed us in. We were seated at a spacious table for four, even though there were only two of us. The menu offered affordable prices, with tempting options like katsu curry. However, I stuck to my original plan and ordered the yaki curry, while my companion opted for the regular version. The yaki curry arrived in about 6-7 minutes, topped with onion rings, asparagus, ham, corn, a raw egg, and plenty of cheese. The curry itself was rich and flavorful, with a nice balance of ingredients. Breaking the raw egg added a creamy texture to the dish. Each spoonful revealed a mix of toppings that made the dish even more enjoyable. At only 700 yen, it was definitely worth it. I also ordered a side of tonkatsu, which I enjoyed with both curry sauce and regular sauce. I finished it all in no time and found myself wishing I had ordered another serving of the yaki curry. It seems like the dish takes some time to prepare, as those who arrived later had to wait for over 20 minutes. Overall, I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back for more!

When it comes to Mojiko Port, they are known for their baked curry, so I visited Koganemushi for the first time. I arrived around 6:00 PM and there was no line, and there were still few customers inside, so I was able to enter smoothly. I ordered the baked curry and the pork cutlet curry! I was surprised that the prices were only 700 yen! The baked curry was full of ingredients, including bacon, asparagus, crispy fried onion rings, corn, meat, soft-boiled egg, and cheese. The staff told me, "If you don't mind, break the egg in the middle right away and it will be soft-boiled," so I had it soft-boiled. The curry sauce was relatively light and smooth, and the baked curry was not overcooked as I had expected. It was very delicious with the cheese and soft-boiled egg making it creamy and tasty!

Baked curry for 700 yen. Personally, this is my number one baked curry restaurant. I brought a troublemaker from out of town to try it, and they were very satisfied. The quality is still amazing for such a low price. No change in ranking. The troublemaker is also very happy. Please note that this restaurant is cash only!

Koganemushi @ Moji Port (Higashihonmachi, Moji-ku, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture) Grilled Curry ¥700 Personal Rating: ★3.7 I wanted to try the famous grilled curry in Moji Port, so I looked for a highly-rated restaurant and visited this place. It is located within walking distance from Moji Port Station. The shop gives off a vibe of a traditional coffee shop from the Showa era rather than a specialty grilled curry store. I visited around 5:30 PM and was seated immediately. The air conditioning was not very effective, but there was a fan, so it didn't feel too hot. They also offer menu items like pork cutlet curry and hashed beef rice, but of course, I ordered the grilled curry. It was served in about 10 minutes. The curry was a classic Japanese style with cheese melted on top, making it hot and gooey. It was accompanied by bacon, corn, asparagus, and fried onions, with the fried onions adding a great texture and flavor. As I continued eating, I discovered an egg hidden in the center, which was a pleasant surprise. Sprinkling the provided spices on the curry added more spiciness and enhanced the flavor. All of this for ¥700 was impressive. The cost performance was outstanding. The elderly lady staff's service was excellent throughout, creating a very comfortable atmosphere. Not only was the taste delicious, but I even felt like coming back just to see her again. #Koganemushi #Gourmet #GourmetInstagram #FoodieWannaConnect #Curry #CurryInstagram #CurryLoversWannaConnect #GrilledCurry #MojiPortGrilledCurry #Fukuoka #FukuokaGourmet #FukuokaCurry #Moji #MojiGourmet #MojiCurry #MojiPort #MojiPortGourmet #MojiPortCurry #MojiPortCafe #MojiPortRetro #Japan #Fukuoka #Moji #Gourmet #Curry #GrilledCurry

It was my eighth time at Koganemushi. There were 8 people in line today, so I decided to go. I entered the restaurant in about 30 minutes. The baked curry came out in 5 minutes. The baked curry, which I hadn't had in a while, was delicious. The portion size was small, which was nice. There are other things I want to eat in Moji Port, so (laughs).

On the second day in Mojiko Port, we started the day by running around the retro area. At 11 am, we joined a free volunteer guide for a tour. We were the only customers, so we received a thorough one-hour lecture. After parting ways with the guide around 12 pm, we headed to "Koganemushi" restaurant. We were a bit late, and there was a line of 4-5 groups ahead of us, so we waited for about 30 minutes before finally entering. The interior of the restaurant was surprisingly small, which is probably why there was a wait. We were seated at the counter and ordered the Baked Curry for ¥700 and the Cheese Omelette Hayashi for ¥750. The Baked Curry had a risotto-like deliciousness and the eggs were cooked perfectly. There were plenty of ingredients in it. The Cheese Omelette Hayashi tasted as expected and was delicious. This time, I did a lot of research on baked curry restaurants and decided on this one considering the cost performance. Famous restaurants featured on TV would cost about double the price. While the quality of ingredients might be different, I believe curry tastes similar no matter where you eat it. That's why I chose this restaurant. Thank you for the meal!
