The other day, I happened to stumble upon this restaurant while strolling around. Since they offer takeout, I decided to give it a try. Checking the reviews, I was surprised to find only one review from aki-shima-san! I hope my review can be of some help... (sweat)
There were signs outside the shop with the following information:
- Lunch Set... Lunch Box (side dishes and rice) 500 yen + A la carte (choose one) A la carte price
- Mini Lunch Set... Lunch Mini (side dishes and rice) 300 yen + A la carte (choose one) A la carte price
You can buy from the 1st floor store and take it home, or eat at the 2nd floor cafe. It took me quite some time to understand this system. The prices of "Lunch Box 500 yen" and "Lunch Mini 300 yen" only apply when combined with an a la carte item. So, you cannot buy just "side dishes and rice" for 500 yen or 300 yen, as you are required to purchase an a la carte item.
The a la carte items vary by day and include curry, soup, salad, simmered dishes, desserts, etc., ranging from around 300 yen. Initially, I thought I could buy something for around 500 yen or 300 yen, but it turned out to be a big mistake! I was way over budget. (It was just my misunderstanding)
As I was pondering what to do, I saw a previous customer buying shumai individually for 150 yen each, so I decided to buy one shumai for 150 yen along with the Lunch Mini for 300 yen. In total, it was 450 yen. (Phew!)
The Lunch Mini comes in a round container with two tiers, with side dishes in the top tier and rice in the bottom tier. The rice is white rice sprinkled with white sesame seeds. There is quite a generous amount of rice. The side dishes included tamagoyaki (surprisingly not too sweet, maybe without sugar?), kiriboshi daikon (quite sweet simmered dish), marinated squid (lightly seasoned), something wrapped with burdock (tasted good but I couldn't identify it), and pickles, all seeming good for your health.
If you don't want the side dishes, you can opt for an a la carte item and rice (which was around 200 yen, I think). It's a bit of a mystery if there are always a la carte items priced around 150 yen, so you might end up paying more than a regular bento box. In that case, the deal doesn't seem that great.
