Chef Takao Mishima, also known as "Mushu," is highly respected not only in Kyushu but also nationwide among pastry chefs. After joining the Imperial Hotel, he became the first Japanese chef at the patisserie "Actuel" in 16th arrondissement, France. In 1981, he opened "France Patisserie 16th arrondissement." The famous "Dacquoise," now popular even in France, was actually created by Chef Mishima (during his time at Actuel in 1979). He has received recognition such as the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's "Modern Master Craftsman" in 2007 and the "Yellow Ribbon Medal" in the autumn of 2015. Not only is the quality of his pastries outstanding, but Chef Mishima also garners the respect of pastry chefs nationwide. I have seen many pastry chefs visit when he was showcasing his skills at a department store in Tokyo. Some recommended items include the Chou a la Creme, Pomme d'Amour, Chausson aux Pommes, and Dacquoise. The Chou a la Creme is a delightful cream puff with a refined aroma and balance of flavors. The Pomme d'Amour, a weekend special, features caramelized custard with sautéed apples in a pastry crust. The Chausson aux Pommes, known for its apple pie, has a flaky crust with a perfect balance of buttery aroma and apple sweetness. And the Dacquoise, with a crispy exterior and a melt-in-your-mouth praline buttercream and almond sponge inside, is a delicious treat with a gentle sweetness. The cakes and pastries may be simple, but their quality is undeniably impressive compared to other shops. Although the shop is located only in Fukuoka, you may occasionally find them at Kyushu (Fukuoka) exhibitions with pastry demonstrations, so it's worth checking out. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

I ordered a takeout menu from a French pastry shop. The package included Marron Glace, Madeleine, Financier, and Orange Pound Cake for 980 yen, with an additional 100 yen for packaging. I arrived at 2:00 PM and had to wait in line for about 15 minutes before entering the shop. Despite the scorching sun, the staff kindly gave me a frozen bottle of Evian water, which was much appreciated. Thank you for the delicious treats, French Pastry Shop 16th arrondissement!

In the 16th district of Yakuin, they have started baking the autumn classic, Chestnut Pie! This Chestnut Pie from the 16th district is a sign of autumn's arrival for your taste buds. They carefully select and cook soft, domestically produced chestnuts, wrap them in pie crust, and bake them. Enjoy the deliciousness of the crispy pie crust and the flavor of chestnuts this autumn. ☑︎1 piece ¥507, Shelf life 6 days.

After having parfait, I went from one sweets shop to another for takeout. Due to being on a plane, my options were limited, but I got a giant grape tart and, since it's the season, a chestnut pie. The chestnut pie with its not overly sweet, rich chestnut flavor was amazing. Next time, I want to try their fresh sweets.

The first floor is a patisserie shop. The second floor is a cafe corner. If you want to go to the second floor, you need to check if there are available seats, so please ask the staff on the first floor. It's a good idea to decide on your cake on the first floor before going up. Once you get the okay from the first floor staff, you can take the elevator to the second floor. There are only 8 counter seats facing the window on the second floor. I decided on a fig mille-feuille on the first floor and ordered it there, but for my drink, I chose a coffee or tea and went up to the second floor. When I sat down, I saw a sign for "Amakusa bannkam" juice... It looked delicious, so I decided on that! I ordered ☑ fig mille-feuille ☑ Amakusa bannkam juice. While waiting at my seat, the pastry chef, Takao Mishima, came over and thanked all of us at the counter. It was an honor to be greeted by him. He advised us to eat the fig mille-feuille with a knife and fork because it's delicate. The Amakusa bannkam is known as a Japanese grapefruit, with less acidity than a grapefruit and very delicious. You pay on the first floor. When I looked at the cake showcase at the time of payment, there was only one piece left, like a display model. Outside, there was a deck where you could sit and even bring your dog. It's a nice spot for dog owners to take a break during a walk. The counter seats also had charging outlets available.

We went over the weekend for a family celebration. There was a long line, so I realized it was a popular place. I was curious about the limited edition cake, but I ended up ordering the fig mille-feuille. When I took a bite, I could smell the butter and liquor. It was light and I finished it in no time.

I have been buying baked goods as souvenirs about three times this month, but today I was looking for cake. I like the cakes in the 16th district because the whipped cream is not too sweet. I bought several cakes this day. The whipped cream was as usual, not too sweet, and the sweetness of the fruits stood out and was delicious! The peach, mango, and fig all had a strong sweetness and were all delicious. I wanted to buy pudding as well, but they didn't have any. So, I decided to buy almond pudding. The almond pudding was too sweet... sweeter than the average almond pudding. It felt like they accidentally made it twice as sweet. The cakes were delicious but the almond pudding wasn't to my liking. Thank you for the meal. I will visit again.

After enjoying delicious eel, I searched for a place to satisfy my sweet tooth. I came across this shop, My Rebi in Fukuoka, which had been reviewed multiple times and caught my interest. The first floor is for purchasing and the second floor is for enjoying coffee and cakes. You choose your cake on the first floor before heading upstairs. I tried the Mont Blanc (520 yen) and the Martignon (460 yen) along with an iced milk tea (420 yen). Even though my stomach was full from the eel, I couldn't resist the temptation of the cakes in the display case. The Mont Blanc had a gentle sweetness that wasn't too heavy. The Martignon seemed to have a high alcohol content, as the staff double-checked if I was okay with it. Of course, I was fine! The Martignon had a light and airy texture with a hint of alcohol in every bite. It was a beautiful four-layered cake that I thought might be too much with two cakes, but I devoured them both. I savored the milk tea as I relaxed for a while. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I love Duckworth's and always make sure to stop by this cake shop when I visit Fukuoka. This time, I tried their cafe for the first time ☕️ I had the following 4 items: - Peach Dessert → Only available in the cafe. The aroma of black tea gelato was nice and the peach was juicy. - Fig Mille-feuille → A mille-feuille with a bit of alcohol, an adult taste with a crispy texture and plenty of butter. - Opera Cake → A friendly chocolate cake with plenty of coffee flavor but not too bitter. - Mont Blanc → A cream with a rich chestnut flavor, and I liked that it wasn't hidden with meringue inside. - Cream Puff → Surprisingly adult taste with alcohol. The fluffy choux pastry was delicious. ♡

I ordered the mango pudding on a scorching hot day, so I asked for two ice packs to keep it cool. I tried it 20 minutes later. Overall, the quality seemed a bit cheap, but I was able to taste the deliciousness of the mango itself.

I had some errands nearby, so I bought a mango dessert from my favorite shop in the 16th district on my way back. This popular shop is always crowded with customers whenever I visit. This time, I got a mango dessert to go. The crispy pie crust at the bottom perfectly complements the sweetness of the mango. The mango itself is incredibly sweet and delicious. The cream inside, both whipped and custard, is not too sweet, allowing the deliciousness of the mango to shine through. 16th district never fails to impress with its delicious treats.

I visited around 3 pm on a weekday. There were about 8 people in line. I waited a bit and then entered the shop. Sure la Crème: tasty. Duck wares: delicious. Financier: yummy. They were good, but maybe other items would be even better. Next time, I want to try their cakes too.

I finally got to visit a place I've been wanting to go to. The blueberry pie was delicious, and I was tempted to have it shipped, but decided to wait until next time. The interior of the shop has a nostalgic old-fashioned Western confectionery store feel. I definitely want to try the cakes at the café next time.

16区 in Fukuoka is a well-known old-fashioned shop that comes to mind first when you want to eat delicious sweets. I got a mango pudding and a seasonal blueberry pie to go. There are usually many customers, so there may be a line depending on the time. I enjoyed the mango pudding by pouring the accompanying sauce over it. The finely chopped mango combined with the smooth mango pudding was delicious. My favorite at 16区 is the blueberry pie. It's a seasonal item, so I always make sure to get it during this time of year. The pie is packed with blueberries. It tastes even better when lightly warmed in a toaster.

My favorite patisserie in Fukuoka. This time I got a peach shortcake and a fig tart to go. The cakes made with seasonal fruits are always delicious and satisfying. The seasonal pies are also tasty, making it hard to decide which one to choose every time.

In Fukuoka's Yakuin, there is a Western confectionery and cake shop where lining up is a must. The security guard and staff guide customers appropriately. It was a day with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees, but frozen water bottles were provided, showing great consideration. Photography is prohibited in the showcase area. I tried the mango pudding and Mont Blanc. The Mont Blanc, in particular, was excellent with its rich chestnut flavor and not overly sweet cream that complemented each other well. Without using any liqueur, the taste of the ingredients comes through clearly. Considering the amount of chestnuts used, the prices seem quite reasonable.

This shop has seating on the 2nd floor, right? Okay, returning the bicycle... The recommended item was peach shortcake, but I played it safe and chose Mont Blanc and went up to the 2nd floor. It was around 2:00 PM and there were no customers... I sat at the counter seat at the back and ordered the Amakusa late mandarin juice that was written on the menu. The juice was bitter! Is it natural for Japanese grapefruit? I had to stir it... It improved after stirring, but it got better after adding about two spoonfuls of sugar in front of me... It seems like they make the ice with the juice... They have a playful touch... The Mont Blanc was delicious in a normal way. I was tired from sightseeing in the rain... I took a short break and it's time to go... I paid 1254 yen with a card and headed to the next shop. This makes it the 87th shop for Sweets WEST Top 100 in 2022.

I don't eat sweets much, but whenever I come here, I always buy a "choux cream"! It has a subtle taste and aroma of liquor, which is great. Even though I've been here many times, I hadn't mentioned it before... It was the best choux cream! My daughter and wife were also satisfied, it was like a luxurious cake. Thank you for the meal.

My mother's favorite pastry shop since long ago. Especially their shortcake with light cream is exquisite. The fruits are fresh. I visited in the evening so the shortcake was sold out. I bought the Mont Blanc, my second favorite, and a pie cake because I wanted to have fruits. The cakes are small but each one is very satisfying. I will make a reservation for a birthday cake again!

Just a 2-3 minute walk from the "Rec Coffee Jousui Terrace" shop in the 16th district of France confectionery, there is a high-end Western confectionery store. The store is well-known for being the birthplace of "Dacquoise" in Fukuoka. The first floor sells cakes and baked goods, while the second floor is for dining in. The cakes look traditional and it was hard to choose, but I went with the Mille-feuille. It was served with tea, and the staff guided me on how to eat it. The Mille-feuille was delicious with a nice balance of cream, liquor, fig jam, and buttery pastry. It was a great experience, and I felt the city of Fukuoka truly represents history and culture.
